Synopsis: Casino, in the Lower East Side, is one of the best restaurants I have ever been to in my life, and I am in my 50s and have eaten in restaurants around the world. I live in the SF Bay Area and ate at this restaurant 4 nights in a row (arrived every night after 10pm) with my 21-year-old son, Zach, while we were visiting Manhattan from 1/3-1/9 2023. It was THAT delicious. The owner is Aisa Shelley and the chef/wizard is Ken Addington. I think a Michelin star is coming their way. Details: We were browsing for a late-night dinner spot on a Wednesday after a show and saw 3 5-star reviews for this brand new restaurant (opened December 13, 2023). Since the kitchen is open until 11:15pm, we decided to give it a try. The restaurant's atmosphere is like a small, plush 1960s supper club, and you enter through a narrow, but well-appointed bar. When the restaurant is full, it can be very loud so be prepared. The staff was amazingly thoughtful, friendly and professional. However, bringing alcoholic beverages to the table could have been handled better. One evening they didn't bring our bottle of wine until half way through our meal. Another evening they left the unopened bottle of wine at our table, and we had to find somebody to open it for us. On our third night, we ordered so much of the menu that they forgot to bring us the duck breast and the crespelle (which was the only mediocre dish on the menu) before the kitchen closed, but they comped us $75.00 off our bill for this faux pas and invited us back for a 4th night, promising to treat us to the two dishes they failed to deliver to us the prior evening so we were roped into a 4th evening of culinary delights. Every dish we ordered was spot on and, yet, still surprising. Start your dinner with the raw oysters and a cosmo cocktail, which was an amazing combination. Then move on to the Amberjack Crudo, Wood-Fired Prawns and the Charred Florentino (this is literally broccoli with an anchovy bread crumb topping, and I can't tell you how ludicrously delicious it is) and order a bottle of wine. We ordered the Sangiovese at $72.00 (that's the only way to identify the bottle on the menu) 3 nights in a row, which goes perfectly with all the mains. Move on to the Pasta with Clams (looks like any pasta/clam dish, but the flavor of the sauce is fabulous), Lobster Cioppino (the lobster was creamy and perfectly cooked and the red sauce was the tastiest I have ever had!!), Steelhead Trout (my son devoured this dish and just gave me a taste, but also amazing), Tournedos Rossini (the filet mignon was tender and perfectly cooked with toast spread with duck liver pate beneath it served with a black trumpet mushroom sauce that was to die-die for; and don't forget to order the baby carrots with the filet) and the Dry Aged Duck Breast (this was served rare with little skin and not done in the Chinese-style of crispy skin; It was delicious but not my most favorite). We didn't get to try the $145 t-bone steak or the Whole Roast Turbot for Two, but based on what we did try, these dishes have to be amazing too. FYI, the owner's favorite dish is the T-bone Steak. They have no dessert menu yet, but we had every single dessert that wasn't just gelato, and they were stunningly fantastic. I can tell you the components of the desserts, but literally I cannot describe how fiendishly amazing the desserts were: Casino's version of butterscotch pudding and the best dessert of all was pistachio and chocolate ice-cream between a light chocolate cookie. The server came by to ask us how we liked the dessert, and I was screaming at him that it was so fantastic but I couldn't describe what I was tasting--literally indescribably fantastic. If you get there late in the evening, tell your server to hold the dessert you want for you because our 4th night there, which was a Saturday, they ran out of all desserts except amaretto cookies and ice-cream. The price: Without a bottle of wine, we spent $300.00. With the bottle of wine it was $400, including a whopping big tip.

One star is way too generous for this place. If I could give this establishment less than a 0 I would. I want to start this off by saying I understand that this place is new, however, it’s owned by the same hospitality group that owns Primo’s and Mr. Fong’s so I had higher expectations… Firstly, our reservation was for 8:45, our table wasn’t ready when we arrived (which was fine), however, they advised us it would be a 15-20 minute wait. We weren’t seated until 9:43 (almost an hour past our reservation time). Secondly, there were multiple dishes that they seemingly forgot to bring out/put in orders for that we had to remind them that we ordered. Every time someone ordered a drink it took approximately 20-30 minutes for them to receive their drink. My friend even received her wine in a dangerously chipped glass (see below for evidence). The downstairs bathrooms were disgusting, paper towels thrown all over the floor. It was akin to a gas station bathroom and considering this place has a steak entree on the menu for $145 I don’t think their bathrooms should be as disgusting as they are… All in all, the food was completely average - certainly not good enough to make up for the offensively bad service. Everything came out lukewarm except the bread. 0 stars.

Casino is a sexy restaurant. It's all vibes. Dimly lit with candles everywhere in a spacious dining room with a bar in the basement, I had high hopes for this restaurant - and it delivered! The service was excellent as soon as we walked in we were asked about our bags and coats. The dinner staff were also attentive throughout the meal and made sure we had everything we needed. The food was, I'd say, okay especially for $90 a person (for the prix fixe menu). I thought the best, most memorable dish was the smoked lamb pappardelle and the roasted cabbage dish. The gelato for desert was also pretty great. The shrimp with black garlic was a big let down. The full shell-on shrimp didn't do anything for me and it was smeared in a black garlic paste that I had to remove and then place back on the shrimp AFTER I removed the shell to have the proper bite - not a fan of when restaurants do this. Overall, had a great evening and recommend this place for a vibey place for a group dinner

From the start till the ends food and drinks 10/10 plus make it ten with nice ambiance and interior - but I see why lots of folk are complaining about the service, this place can be very packed at some days. A tip for before visit if you really want to experience dine here - come early dinner on a weekday if you can so you can experience the whole things. Stumbled here on the weekend for late night espresso martini and ice cream cake for the first time that was banger! And comes back two days later to experience the food and everything that they offered. Started with Amberjack Crudo - continue with main, I get dry age duck breast omg that was ummmm! Side with Roasted Carrots and Charred Brussels sprouts! Make the dinner way to well. Table next to me says “ you need to get the PAPPARDELLE next time you here “ Probably yet the top 10 restaurants I’ve been in NYC! Bravo!

The ambiance and food were good, but I was disturbed by two particular instances. After waiting for about twenty minutes for our bottle of wine, during which most of our food had arrived, the sommelier came to our table informing us that there was a misprint in some of the menus that showed the wine we ordered was $72 instead of $130. He then said, “I assume you wouldn’t want a $130 bottle of wine, so I can recommend a more affordable one that’s similar to the one you ordered,” which we found incredibly presumptuous and insulting. The second instance was after we ordered the oysters, which were priced at $24 on the menu with no amount listed. We received 12 oysters, and enjoyed them, but when the check came, the charge was $48. Assuming because we were a party of 4, they served and charged us a double order without asking us in advance. I wish the best for new restaurants in the neighborhood, but I hope Casino can get their act together.

Another NYC “sceney” spot where the emphasis is clearly on the ambiance and not enough on the food. I had high expectations coming in and left feeling very underwhelmed by several of the dishes we ate. For starters, we had the artichokes, coppa, nduja bread, endive salad, and crudo, all of which we throughly enjoyed. To follow, we had the clam pasta and torchio with peas, two very average pasta dishes. For the mains, we had the dry aged duck breast, spring chicken, whole roasted eggplant, and charred cabbage. The duck was perfectly cooked and by far the best of the main dishes. The chicken was very dry, the the eggplant and cabbage lacked flavor. For dessert, we had the panna cotta and Paris Brest. The panna cotta was rather bland, in sharp contrast to aged balsamic drizzle on top. The Paris Brest was the better of the deserts we tried, but nothing mind blowing.

When I think about hip New York dining spots, Casino is the first thing that comes to mind. Casino’s interiors have this natural look with slopes and curves as if the guys who built it worked with the natural landscape. It’s dark and cozy inside. A really nice place to rest from the cold November wind. We had oysters and the non-alcoholic drinks. Pretty good. Best to reserve a table if you plan on going as the place gets packed pretty quick. New York locals crowd. Shout out to Quentin and the rest of the crew for the hospitality. He gave us a seat even though we just walked in.

I have to say I agree with some of the reviews here. The service is disgustingly bad, I can’t the remember the last time I was treated this poorly in a restaurant I’m not kidding. The food is mediocre at best, and absolutely overpriced. At these prices I’d expect to be blown away by the food, not only was I not blown away but the oysters which took AN HOUR to come out were tiny and had a weird taste. I ended up getting food poisoning the day after and I’m absolutely convinced it was the oysters. The cocktails were fine but also overpriced. Did I say the service was horrible? Do yourself a favor and do not come here.

Food was so bad! Everything super bland and very overpriced. Our server was really nice but the place seemed to be really understaffed. We were in the cafe part in the front and I could see one server and like 3 hosts? They weren’t taking orders or bussing tables, just kind of standing around. We waited for ages for each plate to be brought out. They forgot my drink for like half an hour, though they did comp me when I brought it to their attention which was nice. The interior is cute and my partner really liked his cocktail but that’s about it. If you’re going here, just do drinks and don’t bother with the food.

100% worth the hype. we were lucky to sneak in on a holiday weekend and snag a table in the back. service was incredible and atmosphere was gorg. it was 800 degrees outside and all i wanted was cold good, so I got the butter lettuce salad to start. so many restaurants treat that as a throwaway menu item, but this was the best version of it i've ever had. terrific ingredients, soft balance of herbs, it was fantastic. i followed that with the amberjack crudo which i could rave about for days. the combination of mild basil and the spice of thai chilis was phenomenal. yes, it's difficult to get it, but it's worth the battle!

Presumptuous place with prices of Monte Carlo and quality and service of a Kentucky dive bar. We sat at the bar and ordered 2 cocktail, which stated a specific brand. But the bartender used something else instead. It's not cool.. I don't understand who made the cocktail list and did the menu in general, but somehow it's extremely confusing as drinks are awful and overpriced. Bathroom needs some major cleaning done during the night. Looked like a gas station. Manager was complete clueless when we asked some questions about the menu. I guess we should not complain, but this industry staff shortage is giving some people more credit than they deserve

I gave this restaurant just one star because my experience was absolutely dreadful. Firstly, the service was excruciatingly slow, far beyond what anyone could reasonably expect. Secondly, the food was served in an inedible state – it was both undercooked and incredibly dry. The wait staff, to my disbelief, were shockingly awful in their treatment of customers. I felt like I was treated with utter disrespect and neglect throughout my visit. It was a combination of all these factors that left me deeply dissatisfied with my time at the restaurant

Was super excited to try this buzzy new spot in LES but was pretty disappointed. First off, vibe is 10/10, staff also 10/10, but the drinks and food were really off. Had a big group so ordered most of the menu and only 20% was good. Biggest misses were the chicken (smallest chicken I have seen in my life and came burnt) and the duck breast that was actually inedible. Bread was delicious and so was the trout. All the pastas were mediocre. Had much higher hopes for this place! Hopefully they work out the kinks.

The look and ambiance of this very old school clubby restaurant are perfect, the service was too, and the food was superb! We had oysters, the sausage bread, Romano beans, clam bucatini and rabbit ravioli and all was careful perfection. There’s a very good vibe here, the lighting makes everyone look their best and even the music is perfect for the mood…will be happy to make Casino a regular spot…..

The vibe is a perfect balance of buzzy atmosphere with hushed conversations. A classic NY experience. The food thrills with exciting and unexpected depths of flavor and tasting notes that harmonize. Prawns and porterhouse among the best I’ve ever had anywhere. Staff was friendly knowledgeable and always right there whenever anything else was desired. As happens frequently! Can’t wait to go back and try more of the fantastic cocktails. And next time I want a whole order of prawns for myself!

Truly a 10/10 experience. Excellent service, insane wine list, beautiful atmosphere, and the food is… absolutely perfect. No notes. The clam pasta is not to be slept on, as is the bread, steak, and the charred Florentino. You will feel transported to costal Italy with every bite. This is the type of place that is perfect for almost any occasion. Run, don’t walk.

I’ve been three times since opening and had some of my best nyc restaurant experiences here. If in a group get the Tomahawk steak, I think the best steak I’ve ever had. The wine list is especially good, I’d recommend taking a suggestion for a bottle, bottles I’ve gotten are around the $100 price point and have all been really special. Still need to try the large format fish they have on the menu! I love the ambiance and vibe!

5 star Jewel of the LES. No doubt. You’re on my wave length if you agree that Grand st Pizza is better than Scarrs (by a hair)…. That over in the WV, L’Artusi is tops Don Angie & Via Corrota. Casino is that equivalent. It’s my go-to spot in that neighborhood. I highly recommend- Spiced Coppa, Ndjua Bread, Crudo, Torchio pasta, and my favorite- Crespelle.

The restaurant interior is made of some material that does nothing to absorb sound. It was loud enough to point where it really ruined the whole experience. Unfortunately the food does not make up for it. "Lobster" Au Poivre really is just a fine Au Poivre. There's no dimension of lobster to it. Disappointed but I could see why people like the hype.

Wayyyy too overpriced. $21 for a salad? Get real. Also took like 25 minutes for a server to even come over to the table. For the exorbitant amount of money people are paying for mediocre food, service should be on point. Not returning unless I hit the lottery.
