Sad to say my exp. with the blonde lady in there - Ali - was less than satisfactory. Actually she was pretty hopeless after having my tire fixed and leaving I had to go straight back in there as it was all wobbly and almost coming off! A week or so later I could see that it was a lot flatter than my other tyres that had been on for months, so I b.c. took it back just to get pumped she was busy and handed me a pump even though it was the tyres she'd ' fixed' a week ago. Anyway later in the day the same tyres went flat ! She blamed me for it and said it was the way i pumped it! Well perhaps rather than throw me a pump you could have spared a minute to look at pump your less than satisfactory job you did in the first place. I use to go in all the time and have my tyres fixed by the guy in there with no issue ... my experience has now been ruined. Will never go back. ** EDIT - Thanks for your feed back Ali - little bit too late, you were busy to help me when I came in today - 'fruitless labour 'as you call it - wish you had of sad that when you took my money the first time round. Lot's of advice after the fact on how I should of pumped it! Poor customer service in my opinion - all the best to you too ... you win some you lose some I guess...

Wow - I thought I'd already left a review! I love Chainsmith, they really care about riders and empowering cyclists with knowledge. I did their group riding workshop last year and it's sparked a drastic increase in my mileage this year. I feel equipped with so many skills. Their shop rides are inclusive and welcoming. They have all you need to get on the road, always super helpful with getting you the the right thing with clothes/nutrition you buy there. Since I've started buying my kit/warmers/base layers/gloves from Chainsmith I've been markedly more comfortable because Ali, Ben and David are so knowledgeable and actually care about setting you up as well as possible. All this with no pretentiousness and the highest attention to detail. Not much more to say really, so here's a picture of the beautiful Wilier I bought from them earlier this year, which fits me better than any bike I've ever been on, halfway through one of the long rides it's gotten me through comfortably.

Dropped in about 3-4 weeks ago in the way to work. My front derailleur needed adjusting (was rubbing on the chain and coming off the big ring) and I didn't have the tools. It was early in the morning, there were two staff members there and the only customer had just exited. I asked if there was a chance someone could adjust my front mech quickly, as I was on the way to work and I was told that of course I they could, but I would have to book it in and leave it behind. I suggested that it was 5 minute job (limit screws and cable tension) and asked if they might do it now, as there was no one there and I would much rather not take a taxi to work and back. The shop assistant said "oh don't be like that, it really isn't a 5 minute job". Not confidence-inspiring + not mega helpful/flexible/engendering repeat custom. I left and fixed it myself (in 5 mins).

Having recently built a new bike with a new Campagnolo groupset, I was looking for help in setting up the derailleurs. As Chainsmith are a recommended Campagnolo store I contacted them and booked my bike in for a service. In dropping my bike off and picking it up, I met Ali, David and Ben and found them all to be very friendly and knowledgeable. The service David did on the bike was excellent. He set the derailleurs up properly and also found the headset needed tightening. I have just taken the bike for a first ride since the service and can't believe how smooth and fast it now shifts through the gears. This is my first experience with both the team at Chainsmith and with a Campagnolo groupset and can definitely recommend both of them.

I have had my bike serviced here many times and the quality of work has always been excellent, and better than a couple of the big CBD bike shops I have been to. What really made this my preferred bike shop was when when I had a crash on a Saturday, and the shop took my bike in for repairs and service for a same day return. They got to my bike towards the end of the day and discovered a problem with my rear wheel, which could have been caused by age or in the crash. Ultimately the wheel could not be fixed but Ali and Dave stayed open 90 minutes past closing time on a Saturday and replaced 9 nipples on the wheel tyrying to fix the wheel, and did not charge me for that effort. Talk about excellent service!

A big thank you to the Chainsmith team who did everything to ensure that my 1984 Batavus Professional was up to the task of getting me through L’Eroica in Gaiole, Italy in October. A bike fit, original chain replacement, replacement cables and a complete tune of the down shifters, replacement toe cage leather and seven speed cassette replacement ensured that my bicycle did not miss a beat over 78km of Tuscan strade bianche during the course of my 135km ride. The bicycle tackled the ride beautifully without missing a beat. I could not have asked for a friendlier or more competent team to help me achieve longstanding L’Eroica goal. Grazie mille.

Did an ID Match bike fit with David. I'm pretty comfortable adjusting / tweaking myself, but I wanted some help working out how best to size up a different saddle (Selle SMP). The shape is quite different from a regular saddle so you need to account for it, and I was curious how different the results would be from my own DIY fit. Was a really good experience - I only asked about a million questions, and David patiently answered them all whilst measuring / tweaking, and I've been riding the test saddle for a couple of weeks. Super happy with the experience - really professional & friendly, thankyou very much!

Before I did the bike fitting on my Trek i was experiencing numbness in my hands and the front of my feet, on almost every ride. After the fitting with David, who adjusted my bike to suit my body, from the info he got from the machine, I have not had any of this happening, and my power has increased overall, especially on the hills - knowing that when i get on my bike, its set up exactly for me is amazing. I would highly recommend doing the bike fitting. The service i got afterwards to set up the bike was fantastic, all got done while i waited. Great team @Chainsmith

Really unhelpful. Someone hit the wheel on my bike while it was parked and I wasn't near home. This was the nearest bike shop. The foreign guy I spoke to said it would be very difficult for them to store it there for a week (as I was going away on a course mid week the following week), so despite the fact that I am still a good 30 min walk from home and the wheel wouldn't even have arrived until Wednesday anyway, the guy indicated that he didn't seem to want my business. Very unfriendly and very unhelpful. Would not go back.

Chainsmith has given us reliable, high quality support for our bikes since we moved to Surry Hills over four years ago. As well as occasional maintenance and tire and gear maintenance, they are our preferred choice for specialised riding gear. We have regularly serviced our three bikes with them in the last few years and are completely satisfied with that work. While Chainsmith is set up for high performance cycling, they have always been happy to help us keep our "city" bikes on the road.

So glad to find this bike shop, as a new rider and first visit to the store. Ali is really helpful and knowledgable. David, Julian and the team at Chainsmith are without doubt the best bike mechanics in Sydney. Their knowledge of Campagnolo groupsets is second to none and I cant recommend them enough! I always get my Bianchi Specialissima serviced with them and it comes back in perfect condition every time. Their advice was also invaluable in terms of changing my gearing ratios ahead of a bucket-list trip to the French alps. Thanks so much guys and keep up the good work!!

Great service and a really friendly team and a great vibe and atmosphere in the shop. I've had a couple of bikes serviced by Chainsmith; an old commuter that had been sitting in a basement for five years, and a re-build of a mid-eighties Italian road bike. They did a brilliant job on both counts. On the road bike, they not only put it together for me, but gave me a lot of great advice while I was sourcing the frame and looking for parts. If you're looking for help re-building an older steel frame bike, I strongly recommend them.

As I just moved into the area and my bike had not been used for over a year and now going to be my main means of transportation. I took the bike to Chain smith and I initially was going for the major service, but Chain smith advised that I did not need it. I got my bike back and now rides like new again. My E bike was going down hill and I believe I got to them just in time, was late getting the bike there but I was riding home with my bike back to the way it was,before 4pm.They even put a new reflecter on to replace my old one tied on with facemask string.The bill was warm not hot,very satisfied considering the quality of the service. After arranging an appointment beforehand and letting David know about the work required, the bike was brought into the shop. David attended to the bike immediately, fixed everything which was required in an efficient and friendly manner. As this was the first service since the bike was bought, the work was free of charge. I have been struggling to find a bike shop in Sydney that doesn't do more damage than good to my bike, and finally I've found one! Ali & co have fixed my bike with half the hassle, and for half the price, of other bike shops. And it's great to see a lady running the show! The staff are respectful and attentive. Great service from friendly and knowledgeable folk. I asked the team to pack and send a vintage Italian bike from Sydney to Fremantle (WA) and they did an exceptional job, taking great care with the packing and delivering the bike to me quickly and at what seem a highly competitive price. And by the way, they seem like terrific people.

Great local shop. They performed a service on my bike and it has never been as good, fantastic job. The staff are friendly and very knowledgeable. There is a good range of gear for a small store. Some of the spares are a little pricey but everything else is what a local shop should be.

I'm all the way over here in the USA, and Chainsmith is one of the best shops I've ever transacted with. Extremely helpful, and got an ultralight, breathable jersey to me ahead of a heatwave. Only wish I lived closer, or that Chainsmith was over here. Such a great shop.

Small but mighty! This is a cracking little bike shop with really friendly and knowledge staff. I popped in for a regular service and couldn't be happier. I recommend grabbing a booking online so you can be sure they'll service your bike same-day, as they do get busy.

I was on holiday in Sydney and the helmet my friend lent me was too small - but I was able to step around the corner to this shop and buy an excellent helmet and received professional friendly service ( including jokes about Melbourne weather) - highly recommended

I love this store! Excellent staff, generally quick and very helpful. They have an huge collection of bike parts, meaning if you're in a hurry, you won't have to wait for days for the parts to arrive! They generally have everything in stock ready to use!

Just picked up my bike after a long overdue service and they did an amazing job, it's like new. A lot of work went into the service and still picked it up on the same day. Great mechanics, nice selection of kit and beautiful bikes for sale.

My partner and I both got our bike serviced hear and now all you can hear is the wheel hitting the tarmac when riding. It's great! The people are also friendly, and they explain what they did to your bike in a way you can understand.

This week Ben showed his range and experience, doing an excellent service on a French road bike for an amateur and preparing a bike for a rider that has done 17 Paris Roubaix and has worn the yellow jersey, no complaints from either.

Friendly service but some items prices are way too much such as locks. Sometime Booking won't be recorded so very busy people so two times called conformation needed. If they replace New Tube within one week, they will charge again.

Have had the bike serviced a couple of times now and has come back better than new. The team have a quick look before and let you know what might need to be done and give a clear explanation of what they had a look after returning.
