I live in Montreal. A couple of months before travelling to Winnipeg this December (2021) to get married, I phoned Chapel Lawn to ask them how I could locate my parents graves in the snow ? (Paying tribute to them was of particular significant to my fiance, who is from another culture.) I was told not to worry, that although they did not provide shovelling services, they could place a flag slightly in advance of my arrival, to indicate the location of my parents' graves. Four days before leaving Montreal, I phoned again to confirm which day I was coming, I spoke with someone else, who now contradicted the earlier information given by saying that Chapel Lawn did NOT provide locator flags. She promised instead to leave a map at the front desk the morning I was to arrive, and as well, to have a maintenance man available to assist me in removing snow etc. This seemed like an adequate approach. When we arrived at the cemetary four days later however, the receptionist on duty curtly directed me to a waiting room. After several minutes of waiting, a man showed up with a laptop and began asking questions that clearly indicated he not only didn't know my name, he didn't know what I wanted. Finally, I was able to make the situation clear to him, and he disappeared to get the map. When he gave it to me, he informed that in fact there was no maintenance man available after all. The "map" was frustratingly vague, and I was forced to take the shovel I'd brought and guess at where to dig. After uncovering five graves, none of which belonged to my parents, I returned to the front desk to complain. Let's just say that the receptionist was not exactly empathetic. Finally, the man who'd already served us previously volunteered to return to the site and locate the graves. So we went - but he couldn't find them. My fiance was in tears by this point, and I was furious. I find it disgraceful that any cemetary can be this incompetent with such a matter, particularly after promising well in advance to provide information and support. Next to not finding my parents' graves, it was the front desk staff's lack of empathy for my situation that irritated the most ; they clearly had little interest in my concerns. Surely any such enterprise should offer better customer service than what I received ? Chapel Lawn should be ashamed.

Chapel Lawn Funeral Home & Cemetery located at 4000 Portage Avenue, Winnipeg, Manitoba, laid my late mother’s marker down on her grave sometime after Mother’s Day, Sunday, May 8, 2022, and before Saturday, July 2, 2022, without notifying my family and I. As the Executor, I should have been notified. It is not something that my brother should have just “discovered” upon while visiting our mother’s grave on Saturday, July 2, 2022. We are hurt and devistated. It was bad enough when she passed away from Covid-19 on November 6, 2020, and with the all the unfortunate events that occurred afterwards and with the protocols, etc. This was the last thing that we were looking forward to - the laying of the stone. We had planned to pick a date and partake as a family and hold a ceremony with a memorial dinner afterward but Chapel Lawn denied us this opportunity. They ruined it. Chapel Lawn did not even take a minute out of their multi-million dollar company time to give us a courtesy call to let us know that the marker that we waited for for almost one year, was ready and available for placement, to memorialize her. The cemetery would have had a “marker placement fee” of some sort. If we paid for this fee, do we not have a right to know what is happening? And somebody would have had to sign for the marker when it arrived and they would have had to give permission to lay the marker down. Shouldn’t it have been us as the family to make these decisions since WE paid over $7000 for the plot and over $7000 for the marker? Who makes these decisions overstepping the family? I contacted Chapel Lawn regarding this matter on Saturday, July 2, 2022, and they said that they would get back to on Monday, July 4, 2022, but they never did. We had spent hundreds of dollars in preparation of laying down the stone, ceremony, family traditional practices and memorial dinner. Thanks for nothing Chapel Lawn Funeral Home & Cemetery, you lack cultural awareness and sensitivity, understanding, compassion, respect, empathy and communication. You are disrespectful to the deceased and mourning family. You are outright disrespectful!!! *This, in addition to constantly removing my moms wreaths and flowers from her grave, while the surrounding graves were never disturbed (before the marker was laid down).

My family and I have dealt with Chapel Lawn a few times now (one too many) and they have been professional and caring throughout our experiences. The first time we dealt with them was pre-covid for my dad's funeral service. We sat down and went over everything step by step and Cody (at the time and the other staff) answered all of our questions and were accommodating during a difficult time. They provided my mum with a package that makes it easier to deal with all the documents afterwards like the driver's license, passport, etc. The staff was easy to communicate with and was readily available to take our calls during that time. The facility itself is beautiful. We had my dad's funeral service back in the summer of 2019 and the space was very accommodating for the large amount of guests that we had. Of course people came and went, but there was ample seating inside and outside of the large reception area. They also have a large and expandable formal area. The staff working during that time was great and helped us navigate the reception portion. Although it was a sad time, our experience went as smoothly as possible. During covid, we had another family member pass and with all the restrictions going on at the time, Chapel Lawn remained professional and compassionate. They ensured that everyone's health and safety was maintained with timed block intervals for guests to come in and pay their respects. They allotted blocks of time to sanitize in between groups of guests. There was no reception area to be used during that time as covid had posed many restrictions at that time. Throughout our interactions with Chapel Lawn, Aldous helped us during pre-planning and planning, gave us a tour of the mausoleum in which we had chosen as a resting place for my dad. He walked us through the process of what was expected to come. Recently, I have dealt with Aldous myself in securing my niche for the future. He answered all my questions and the transaction was a very smooth one. I would recommend Chapel Lawn to anyone who has needed to consider funeral planning whether it is for themselves or family or friends.

I lost my husband on January 17th 2022. My soul mate. I knew losing him was one of the most hardest thing that could ever happen to me. Making arrangements for his funeral was scarry I wanted to make sure that his last day on earth was perfect. As he is a perfectionist. I didn't expect the funeral home to understand that. I went to chapel lawn because my whole family has prepaid plots there and expect very little to my satisfaction. We started planning with Cara and she was very helpful and respectful of my every instructions. They all kept in contact with me to assure me of the progress from the cadles to the flowers right down to the last music to be played. Cara went above and beyond her role to make sure that the day went perfectly as I specified. The understanding and the hard work they put on was so perfect for my husband's last day. At the end of my darkest day Cara made us feel that my husband is the most important clients and she did it with her professionalism her understanding and respect for what my husband's friends and family are going through. Through what was to be the worst day of my life she made my husband's funeral one of the few things I did not need to worry about. I don't normally do reviews as I find 99% of the time they will surely be disappointing. I felt this is the one and most likely the only time I will ever do one. For they deserve my heart felt gratitude. I was not just the client we were treated like they were a part of our family and made sure that this day will be what I had hoped it to be. Perfect in every way. Again please accept my gratitude and know that you will be the only place we will go to. I pray not any time soon but at least I know it will be done perfectly. Not happy with the service provided by Mike going over the funeral arrangements. First of all he presents us with a bill of over $12,000. My mother's arrangements were all prepaid, and as there were only a few immediate family members coming, we did not rent a room, flowers or any extras. While going through all the costs with Mike, he refused to take the cremation costs off of the bill, even after I showed him that it was prepaid. Having just gone through this all for my step-father I knew what was going on. They also charged us $15.00 for each death certificate, where there was no cost last year. I spoke to two other people in Winnipeg who recently lost family members, and they were not charged for the death certificates. I did not know the final costs until the day of the funeral, and the cremation cost was deducted, however not happy paying $4,625.00 for a pre-paid funeral for all the "necessary costs". They really take every penny they can from you. I would not recommend them at all. My friend in Stonewall paid less than half of what I did, and got a lot more services a few weeks earlier.

On having said that since we had a big family and a lot of friends I was amazed at how much room the chapel and reception hall at Chapel Lawn accommodated our family and friends during that time. From the time we sat down to discuss what needs to be done detail by detail until the day of burial Mr. Scott Darichuk and Mr. Aldous Guzman was always there when needed until this day, my family expectations was surprised on how well organized Chapel Lawn was. The Estate Planning Kit was also helpful to close the affairs of my dad which I recommend in getting. My large family earned Chapel Lawn business in their pre-arrangement and will recommend to our friends as well The staff and host/hostesses was also very sympathetic to our family for our loss. I highly recommend Chapel Lawn Funeral Home & Cemetery. Mom passed on Dec 21/20. Numerous years ago, we pre-planned everything with Chapel Lawn so that when their services were required, I would only have to pick up the phone. It was the best decision we could have made. They looked after everything with kindness, caring, and empathy. Their professionalism was outstanding but they also had room for lightheartedness and humour. Naomi was incredible! When I called the morning of the 21st and spoke with her, my nerves were instantly calmed. That call, the ZOOM call the next day, the first meeting in person, picking up moms remains; a difficult life event made easier (?) thanks to Naomi and her outstanding colleagues. I highly recommend Chapel Lawn. We will be making appointments in the near future to pre-plan our cremation details and will tell all our friends to, at the very least, call to talk with them about the inevitable end of life decisions that we all need to make.

I dealt with Chapel Lawn in February for my father's funeral and interment. It was a new experience for me. I did not understand prior to this that the funeral and interment are two separate and distinct business areas. This was confusing, partially due to a stressful life event. The funeral part was handled well but I sure could have done without the upselling on the cemetery side. I was telling someone about this the other day, how it seemed so wrong when you go to deal with a prearranged burial that they try to get you to prearrange your own funeral while you are dealing with funeral arrangements for your loved one. So one one side of the table you are choosing catering and casket and the other side is trying to sell you your own burial plot. Just doesn't seem right. The funeral however was performed as discussed and agreed so I would recommend them for that. They were very helpful filling out paperwork and provided everything in the timelines they committed to.

A few years ago my dad passed away suddenly. From what I had heard about Chapel Lawn there was no question we would call them first. I am so glad we did. From the start, Naomi was awesome and helped plan the celebration of my dad's life down the finest detail. Even requests like having some dirt by the grave to spread on the casket, and the specific Mennonite-style luncheon that we wanted to hold were all handled easily. The day of the funeral came and everything went smoothly and we were able to put my dad to rest under the best care I could have imagined. I recently made pre-planned end of life arrangements with the professional assistance of Mr. Guzman. I’d been thinking about pre-planning for sometime so that my family could be spared having to make the funeral arrangements, but frankly the thought of making my own arrangements felt surreal. My mom passed away December 20, 2021. I had never had to deal with this situation in past and was the only one to do this. The guidance, compassion, professionalism and friendliness of the 2 individuals I worked with, Cara Little and Merle McDougall Kroeker was incredible. And the outcome of everything from viewing to small family service was perfect! They assisted me with selections, etc and it was just as I had envisioned...maybe even a bit better. Deacon Dennis was the right fit and as we had 3 young children (under 10yrs) they were included in many parts of the service/gravesite ceremony. The Chapel Lawn Funeral Home went beyond the call of duty from the first phone call we had to make, to find out what we had to do with our loved one. Our family recently had to arrange for internment of a family member from out of town. We had little idea of how large a gathering to expect. Our first contact was with Merle who helped us with prearrangements that had been done, helped organize and carry out a lovely ceremony. We also decided last minute to have a small reception. Naomi , from the funeral home, provided for the right size room and her staff were great with the food and services supplied. In short our experience was very professionally done at a difficult time. Thanks to everyone involved.

Trying to watch interment online live streamed and we receive the statement below. If this is a often occurrence then upgrade your internet and Wifi connection or upgrade your equipment. This is 2022 get it together your in the business of funeral services. This should not be an issue “We are experiencing technical issues with the live stream, which is often caused by a poor Internet link. In this case the equipment uses a cell or Wifi connection that is more prone to instability. We are trying our best to make the stream available as soon as possible.”

This review is in regards to the grounds. I have many family members buried in this cemetary. We went there yesterday and besides walking through the minefield of goose poop (and being unsuccessful in avoiding it), the grounds are very uneven. It was very sunken by my sister's grave. Having visited 2 other cemeteries this week this was by far the worst in these 2 areas. We saw many geese at one of them but it did not have the poop to deal with so I assume they sweep the grass. You need to get control of this situation! Thank you.

We always have a good experience with Chapel Lawn Funeral through their specialist Lovella Burog. Lovella understands her job and our situation, and presents different options that work for our family's financial situation. It's nice doing business with someone who does not pressure and yet shows the importance of preparing for the future. We also like how everything was made convenient for us, from meeting to signing to after sales. The technology and equipment readily available to post-sales coordination is just done right.

Chapel Lawn has a beautiful facility. The atmosphere in the reception room was warm and bright and provided plenty of space for a private lunch. I had an appt with the manager of Chapel Lawn (Hubert) and when I got there he ended up sending out his receptionist to tell me that the property manger had been away for a week so he did not have any information for me!! I just wanted to know if there were openings in a garden and the cost of one of their cremation products.. I did not get anything!! They could have called me or emailed me to reschedule.. but nothing.. still not replied to me with any information.. very unprofessional and poor customer service!!

We just laid to rest our beloved mother. Cara and staff took meticulous detail to give her the perfect funeral, she looked absolutely beautiful in the coffin, and Tiffany gave her the perfect hair cut and style. Excellent customer service when it comes to anything regarding funeral planning and beyond. The staff members (shout out to Scott G.) as they are caring, emotionally intelligent, and helpful. My mother is buried here and when I come to visit, it is great to see the space continues to be well taken care of and welcoming. As I live far away, it makes me feel comforted to know she's resting in a beautifully, well taken care of space.

We paid for an upright headstone over a year ago and after reaching out countless times to see when it will be installed, a year and a half later it is still not installed. Have I known that their services are so horrible to the point of pure embarrassment I would have picked a different cemetery to lay my parents in. My recommendation, find another cemetery, they are all talk and no action.

We have had an unusual situation in the ability to inter our sister and Aldous was exceptionally kind, patient and knowledgable in guiding us through the steps we needed to make and paperwork that comes with it. His efforts made a trying situation doable and was very much appreciated. We also appreciated and values our interaction with Jenny when needed.

I had the unlucky experience of dealing with Chapel lawn last summer with the untimely death of a relative. They were very professional and took excellent care of me during a very difficult time. I had my father's funeral here when he unexpectedly passed more than 2 years ago. We just pre-planned my mother's funeral with Aldous. He was excellent! Compassionate, funny when appropriate, and great to deal with. Made us feel valued and respected. Nothing but wonderful, compassionate service between the 2 events I was involved in.

Excellent from start to finish. Very helpful and they listened to what we wanted for my fathers internment. My advice to anyone. Don't wait till the aging parent is gone to make arrangements. Look into in advance and you will have less surprises. It's expensive but by planning ahead it will help.

Had my grandpa's funeral here and the staff was so calm and nice. The place was just very well kept and clean. The home is a little hard to get through unless you know where your going but you get to see all the beautiful scenery like the fountains. A very peaceful place indeed.

Outrageously incompetent service provided by your company. For the live streaming service today here was inaudible volume and the live stream cut out after 7 minutes. You have FAILED at providing a service which is to be comforting to all who are virtually attending.

Although I was there for very sad circumstances, the new Chapel Lawn handled the event beautifully. Lots of natural light in both the chapel and reception area really helps to mitigate the natural sadness.

This cemetery confuses me and I temporarily forgot where my dad was buried, but we went to the office and they quickly helped us find the exact spot. I also enjoy how well maintained they keep the place.
