Finally decided to take Southwest airlines. We went to Terminal 5 at O'Hare airport. I have to say I was extremely disappointed by the chaotic nature of going through Terminal 5 which is very small terminal. In addition, I think Southwest airlines needs to get a better operation in place because it was like herding cattle when it came time to prepare to go through the security line. Very disappointed that there isn't a better way to manage processing people through the security line. I suggest giving yourself at least 3 hours if you are traveling domestic if you are going to use Southwest airlines through O'Hare airport. Another surprise, Uber's do not go to Terminal 5. You need to get on the Air Transit System (ATS) which there are very few signs showing where that's located once you leave the gate when you return from your trip . The ATS is located across from the southwest check-in area. It is a tram that takes you to the different terminals as well as the car rental center. Both the Operations Department at the O'Hare Terminal 5 and Southwest airlines folks both need to get their acts together. They are a mess!
The walk to the gates, and from the gates to the baggage claim is horrendous. Put on your walking shoes, you're going to need it! Turn on your step counter, you're going to easily hit your goal! The Hilton shuttle was impossible to find. We asked for directions multiple times and got multiple wrong instructions each time. It was a total nightmare walking back and forth looking for door #3, going from terminal 5 to terminal 1, to terminal 2. We finally just gave up and took a taxi.
Terminal 5 at Chicago O'Hare can be confusing to navigate. From checking your bags (and getting out of roped off area), to the TSA security (both pre and post security). There is also alot of consrltruction going on so they have alot of narrow corridors. If you fly Southwest wear your running shoes as they are tucked on the far side of the terminal from thr Security Gate. Otherwise, the terminal does look new and clean and beautiful with plenty of seating.
First, Delta is located in the international section. If you have a domestic flight, this can be really confusing if you need to move between carriers who are partnering. The international section is a joke. I found a Burger King that was open or cold sandwiches. The signage is horrible, and people can't give you directions to how to get on the plane. Paint jobs and upkeep are bad. At least pay to power wash the outside or something. It's just cheap...
Wow ! It's beyond the capacity of ordinary mortals to describe the grandeur of ' O ' Hara airport, Chicago.... The most wonderful and pleasing part is the very happy , jolly and friendly airport staff, be them wheel chair guys cart people or everyone ! MET onwards gates look little deserted but that's understandable as construction work is going on ! Everything else is just lovely, so the domestic to international terminals, trains, inside cabs ......
I been to several airport in US and other countries and I have never lost a flying due to security taking to long to check due to bad handling of the lines and man power. Checking area with no clients, line going from 1 to 2 to 1 to 4 and the workers rude and one saying on thing and another saying some thing different telling us we dont follow directions when is them not agreeing with how to do things etc.
Sadly this is pretty average as far as airports go. This airport used to be cutting edge when I grew up here, but it has been eclipsed. There were no sit down restaurants or bars anywhere near my gate which was a disappointment. They also keep a buzzer going in one of the gates for long stretches which doesn't make for a relaxing wait. Bathrooms were clean and they also have water bottle refill stations.
This terminal is the worst. Design is bad. Automatic walkways only one way and very narrow. Hardly any restaurants and I feel bad for the actual restaurants there. Very small, hardly any seating, short staffed etc. Just not great and this is a huge hub. Can't enough how bad it is. I hope lay people brought stuff or if this is your destination get out of the airport as fast as possible.
It's a bit too big and a bit strange -- especially the mysterious system by which they move people from the international terminal to domestic connections at other terminals. Also, the concessions are WAY overpriced. On the more positive note, it's by far not the worst airport I've ever been in (and I've flown all over the world). And the people are helpful and wonderful.
Hands down the worst airport terminal in the United States. They shove you into some basement for customs, trash bags just sitting on the floor. Piles of luggage. And this is my second trip in about two years and it hasn’t changed. Absolutely terrible that this is some people first impression of America. Everyone in charge of this airport should be embarrassed.
First time using this airport. Used CLEAR to get through security which made it easy and quick. Otherwise the security lines were super long. Food options are pretty decent. I am flying Southwest. For such a big airport they could have more than 4 kiosks to check your bag. Was able to get through the bad drop line in under 8 minutes so that was good.
My first time flying anywhere, yikes! The airport itself was better than expected. Of course, I had no idea of what to do or where to go. The staff in the baggage department was very friendly and very helpful...overall I would say everyone I asked for help was very helpful and nice. I'm glad my first experience was here and it was a good one..Thanks!
Should be closed!! It's still under construction but nothing will help it. Only one way walking sideways. The walkways are so tight when people from airlines trying to que up and board there plane, the line blocks the walkway and just brings everything to a standstill. Absolutely no restaurants half way down and it's a mile walk from TSA to gate 40.
Just arrived Tampa flying on Southwest from Chicago O’Hare Terminal 5. The Security Checkpoint is weird. TSA Precheck and Clear Plus Program go there unless someone wants to sign up free trial to skip a long. 20-25 minutes to the gate. When I arrived at Tampa. They damage my luggage. I have to sue who ruin my new luggage.
Where is the modernization? The staffing at security and check in was both (1) ridiculously overstaffed but ironically (2) some of the slowest lines I've waited in. This airport is put to shame by those in many developing nations. Additionally staff working at the food court establishments were extremely rude.
Came back from an international flight to O'Hare yesterday. Had to wait in the immigration line for over 1hr 33 minutes. "Renovations" going on in Terminal 5. Was a nightmare. The city has clearly shown that it is not capable of large projects like this. There is no excuse this. Extremely disappointed.
Immigration is a disaster today and many days. They seem to have no plan. Our plan arrived 60 minutes ago and not one bag has come out yet. Carousels are full due to immigration backup. Another example of Chicago government and the federal government being unable to handle the simplest things.
Construction on the $1 billion expansion and renovation of Terminal 5 began in March 2019. The project will open in phases throughout 2023 The largest piece of this masterplan is the new O'Hare Global Terminal, designed by Studio Gang and set to encompass 2.2 million square feet.
ORD terminal 5, where delta now operates from, has that small airport feel. Operating out of the international terminal, that first thing you see on the other side of security is the departure lounge with duty free shops and restaurants. Right after them are the gates. How nice!
Overall a good airport, but there are some works going on so security is taking a little longer, and there's not as much shopping once you're through. But overall for airport staff they are polite, friendly and very helpful. Which is always good at an airport!
Crazy in the usa they allowed to ban uber and lyft from terminal 5 and then you have to wait 1 hour taxi line or get robbed from private drivers! We were in rush and normal taxi cost 60 dollars was 170 dollar private driver outside as ubers/ lyft are ban
There's still some construction but it's spacious and the decor is neat. There are chargers everywhere. The toilets have those self renewing plastic sleeves which is great. There are plenty of places to eat and drink. I love flying out of there.
O'hare got us there and back home safely. I haven't been here for over 30 years. I AM a MIDWAY girl. Airports are busy, I understand this. This airport was confusing, the signs were not clear, what, when, where, how's. The scenic train was
Until what will hopefully be a decent restaurant and coffee shop open between M1 & M8, this new Delta terminal leaves much to be desired. A modest food court offers a few eatery options immediately inside security, while a bar, fast food,
There is only 1 Security point at the Intl. Countersto the left. Try not to go there the other security point is to the right of the entrances up from SAS...if Delta employees tell you its only for Delta passengers they are lying only TSA
Average airport, you don't want to arrive too early here because there is nothing much to do. The Business Lounge is very average and tiny, good was not great either. But it is what it is, if you are flying from Chicago, then O'Hare it is.
Prior to traveling from Terminal 5, I read reviews and heard many stories that made me anxious prior to flying since people said there were delays. I ensured to be extra early which wasn’t actually necessary, though if you want to breeze
Terminal 5. You can get in and out pretty quick in getting Delta terminal. Pleasant employees so far. Restrooms pretty clean. Lots of food choices. Tornado warning just HAD TO hit right as we were supposed to load plane... arghhhh
Redesign is terrible; the gates are too close together, not enough seating. The loud speakers are too loud ie it's hard to tell if it's your flight or another one and of course there was a 3 hour delay so that didn't help.
Airport needs to update their signs, and put more maps out. Got lost trying to go from terminal 1 to terminal 5. Had to ask for directions, people are nice though. Terminal 5 sucks, not many options for food and lounge.
What a mess! Once we landed on the runway... It was another hour until we were actually in our Uber headed to the city. Not the best mapped out airport plan. Hopefully all the construction will improve the flow.
Wasn't too sure which terminal we needed but T5 it was. Very easy check-in and our cases dropped off. Security was busy but very efficient. Swiftly in the well supplied departure longe. Very good experience.
I'd rather fly to Newark. The people working here are so angry. The process of getting international folks to go through customs and then recheck bags is just bad. If I can avoid it, I'll not fly here again.
Loads of shops and things to buy make it similar to most airports. Watch out for scammers offering you a taxi. They will charge you $140 to a hotel 20 minutes away. Should be closer to $40.
Uber pick up requires a train ride then a walk, you're not allowed to confirm a ride until you're standing at the pickup spot. Now I get to stand in the cold for 11 mins waiting.
Signage is rare in terminal 5 at O'Hara. I came out of the plane a turned the wrong way and walked for 50 yards before seeing a sign. Long walk to to transportation shuttle.
Why add a terminal all the way to the back of the building that is far as hell to walk to and from then trying to get your bags quick so your ride don't leave you is a joke!
Need more than one security checkpoint, long Iines in very claustrophobic place, very uncomfortable. Very little direction from staff, lines merge without staff supervision
O'Hare is congested with lots of people as expected, but the management of the crowds is highly efficient. The employees are customer oriented, friendly, and helpful.
Only good things were: No lost luggage Pilots n fa's were great! Too far to walk and my Uber, Andrii, f'd me over at midnight. Baltimore Airport is way way better!!
They are currently under construction to build a 5th garage with 6 levels, so take your time when going to Internacional 5. It's a bit tricky but not possible.
Check in lines are long and move slow for Delta. I would advise to check in & add your checked bags at kiosk. Card reader did not work at one of the machines.
A modern and sleek terminal that makes ORD an even better option for travelling internationally from the midwest, especially if you're getting lounge access.
Whatever you do don't buy any fast food there, Burger King charges 15.99 for a croissant combo, come on, their barely tasty at 7 bucks away from an airport
Departure process is not bad but arrivals are nightmarish. Baggage claim is crowded and disorganized. The pick up lanes are impossibly congested.
I was a little skeptical that I was going to miss my flight, but everything at the TSA checkpoint moved swiftly and overall a great experience.
Terminal 5 is nice enough and new but way, way too far to walk from the far gate to baggage. Moving walks go out but not back. Big design flaw
This is a beautiful section of the airport. What they need is more moving people walkers. This IS a really long walk! But, i love SW airlines
Not the greatest airport in the world. A lack of decent shops and old decor makes the departure lounge feel like something out of the 80’s.
Bad management by TSA - flight status unknown, lacks coordination and managing passenger expectations, empathy - pretty bad experience
Crowded, slow moving lines, and most of the "restaurants" are out of food and most of the staff look like they're daring you to order.
Easy terminal to navigate. Will be better once the bar opens at the end! No good food options available near the gates at the moment.
Took a long time to get through security. Taking one's shoes off is necessary but it's not hygienic. Surely there's a better solution
Terminal 5 is so nice! I wish there were more restaurants and shops but overall it was a good experience! Very clean, lots of space.
There are not many options for food or drink because of construction. It will likely be very nice after it is completed.
Maybe it was the right time, or perhaps just good service. I was checked in and at the gate in 15 minutes. Thanks TSA.
Always construction, always lines, always problem. This is one of the busiest airport so expect those usual things.
Very expansive airport but pretty nice n clean considering it's O'Hare, n the staff were friendly n helpful
Very nice, clean, so many restaurants and food available, it is just too long of a line on the TSA check-in
Chicago O'Hare is one of my favorite airports. Large but easy to navigate plus charging ports everywhere.
if going to terminal 5 , make sure you have walking shoes on. Nice atmosphere but long walks.
Massive airport. Took a while to get to baggage. Getting to the car rentals was easy though.
Foreign Travelers are the best. They treat you like royalty and respect you as an American.
Terminal 5 is a lot different than what I remember from the past, it's very nice …
Typical airport experience, clean areas ans friendly staff. Could use more food options
Great experience airport was nice and clean easy to get through check point
