We arrived around 8.30pm (pretty much nobody was there) There's the bottom level which just has the bouncer checking I.D and the admittance where you pay $20 (I think $25 after a certain time) Walking up 2 flights of stairs to the first level is the dancefloor and bar area, very loud just like a normal nightclub. Bartenders were very good of hearing so our drink orders were always spot on. $30 for a Jim Beam and a Raspberry Cruiser, or $28.10 (I was a bit drunk by this time) for a pint of Carlton and a Raspberry Cruiser. After another 2 flights of stairs you arrive at the smoking area with a little tiny bit of bass from the music down stairs, and if you listen carefully, you can make out the song, but you can hear clearly what your group is talking about. Both levels have toilets, however you MUST buy your drinks from the dancefloor level on Friday nights (from what we experienced) The music is taste. 80's and 90's music, however around 10.30pm it was pretty average 80's-90's music, more for females than males, but then at around 11.30-1pm 20-30 songs were awesome to sing and dance to. Only 1 problem while we were there, which was some kid taking his shirt off and spinning it around, but no actual violence. All in all it the 6 of us enjoyed ourselves. The toilets were clean for the first 3 hours, but all nightclub toilets stink after 12am so that's not against the club. Thanks for a good night out.
Retros used to be my go-to and favorite spot. I went there last night, and for the most part, I had a great time. However, there was this guy, bald with sunglasses, who kept harassing women all night long. It was really uncomfortable to witness. Despite the women rejecting him every time, he wouldn't take no for an answer. He would physically grab them and refuse to let go, making them visibly uneasy. They had to push him away repeatedly, but he would persist with the same people. He even tried approaching my friend and the people we met there, and I had to physically stand in his way to keep him at bay. I decided to talk to one of the security guys about it. His response was pretty disheartening. He said, "Oh, he's one of our regulars. When he gets like that and if we see him being too grabby, we tell him to stop. Just keep an eye on him for me." Basically implying that this kind of behavior from him is a regular occurrence. I rarely write reviews, but this whole situation was absolutely disgusting. It's unacceptable to justify harassment just because someone is a regular customer. Safety should always be the top priority, and no one should have to feel uncomfortable in a place like this.
This nightclub has an infamous reputation for serving tampered drinks to its patrons. My friend had their drink spiked and ended up in hospital. It was a traumatic experience. We suspect that the bar staff were behind it, as there have been reports of tampered drinks in the past. Every precaution you can imagine as a group of friends looking after each other was taken but yet, a drink that has been tampered with was served. The club did not seem to take this seriously and we felt very unsafe there This club is not attentive to safety, and I would never recommend anyone to visit. The management needs to take immediate action to ensure the safety and well-being of their customers. If you are still thinking of going for the experience of retro music, Don't. The club does not play retro music, but instead opts for a generic playlist that can be heard in any mainstream club which as its retro classics that you will never fail to hear. The lack of retro music combined with the great potential of being served a beverage that has been tampered with is not worth the visit.
I had my 30th birthday in the function space of Club Retro and I cannot recommend them highly enough! The space has a huge light up dance floor and long bar, setting a great atmosphere without even having to decorate (even though you can if you want to). The function space is separate from the rest of the club, providing a great celebration space. The staff were so friendly and accommodating, both leading up to the event and on the night, and made sure everything went smoothly. They were calm and laid back, and nothing was too much trouble. You can provide your own music or they can play a set list from one of the club floors (which I would recommend). I asked them to play music from the throwback floor and it was fire! So many people up dancing to banger after banger. They are also very reasonable in their prices. Club Retro made my 30th celebration so memorable, easy and so much fun!
I'd like to make formal complaint. Tonight Friday 22nd January, I was upstairs at the top level in bar area ordering a drink when a extremely rude bartender was serving me. He got this unfriendly manner and didn't want to serve. This was at the inside bar (NOT outside) as the rooftop level I notice there are two bars up there , smaller one at the outside and bigger one on the inside. This was at the inside bar. He was wearing dark colour t shirt with a mask , blonde hair blue eyes bartender. The other bartender with glasses and striped t shirt was nice. This rude bartender honestly not sure what gotten into him but it was the most extreme rude customer service I've ever experienced. I'd like him to get formal written warning for what he did or even sacked. He got no place to be in such good environment like club retro. It just ruins the reputation.
The floor was so sticky and tacky, it felt like I was walking on gum. The bouncers (2 in particular) were power tripping, the short one especially, talking to all the men in my group like they were below standard. They were rude and then we witnessed four security guards take down a man from the podium for no reason, take him in a headlock while holding his arms back and used brutal force to take him outside. All he was doing was dancing. It was disgusting to see. We also ordered a few drinks and each round tasted watered down and not normal for what we drank (the vodka tasted like water with raspberry, ie. cordial). I'm very disappointed and won't be returning. Something has to be done about the way the security deal with patrons. If that was someone from my party, I'd be pressing charges! Not acceptable at all.
I have really enjoyed my time at Retro's the last few years. There was previously great music, staff and patrons across the board. Unfortunately over the last 6 months the venue has gone downhill significantly. Security guards have physically assaulted me on the dance floor on two occasions now, not apologising after they realise they have the wrong person/target. Drink pricing is inconsistent and the toilets are a vomit, deal bag, vape filled mess. Last night, we (three blokes) were denied entry due to the venue accepting 'mixed groups only', which was interesting as the three ladies in front of us walked right through. Predatory security guards and over priced drinks. Discrimination at its best. Catch you never Retros
Came here with a friend in hopes to find a good place to groove, both huge lovers of music. Considering it was a $20 entry one would think this place would have some taste. The dj had no clue, played mediocre, cringe and laaame songs. The venue smelt of vomit, the smoke machine was overdone, no ventilation and the music was uncomfortably too loud. We couldn’t breath, we forced ourselves to dance to make the most of it. Big disappointment. This place could be great with the right music and some AC. No water on side of bar if you want a quick drink. Spend your money, time and excitement somewhere else. I can’t say I believe any of the five/four star reviews for this place. The end.
I usually ignore the one star reviews as I think it was just one bad experience... In this case I shouldn't have... Everything they say about this Venue is true... Even though we were in the "guest list" we were asked to stay in the line and we had to wait an hour to get in. They'll charge you for cloakroom per every items, $5 per item. DJ's are horrible and the music is too loud... They had like 3x the capacity people in, not many beverages, no cocktails or beers on tap! In fact only one type of canned beer. The floor and carpets are sticky and the toilets smell like hell not to mention people were doing drugs in there! So if you're looking for a decent venue, skip this one
Ladies and gentlemen, this place does not compare. From the beginning of your best shenanigans to the wee hours of the morning this establishment will fulfil your every desire. It’s unruly yet genuine atmosphere attracts only the best of patrons. Club Retro is an establishment that not only invites but leaves you aching for more. From the moment you enter, Club Retro will engulf your soul with a desire that can only be fulfilled by another visit. Do yourself a favour and fully capitulate to the wonderland that is Club Retro. The perpetual motion of Vengabus services a route with only one stop and that stop is Club Retro.
Had an amazing Hens night here! They put my guest list on the door which gave my girls and I half price entry before 10pm! Two dance floors (old and new music) great outdoor area, I lost count of the Bars, well made and well priced drinks. Proper fun place to visit for a bit of a dance and a bit of fun. Venue Filled up very fast and had the perfect atmosphere. Get there early to score a great rooftop spot. Be careful though! Arrive at 9pm like I did and you'll find yourself leaving at 3am! Time really does fly when you are having fun at Retro...Hands down the place to be. I will be back.
Music is fairly decent but as a club overall, absolute trash! the bathrooms are really messy, no soap and the lines are always full which is why I had to hold it in most of the time. Bouncers spend most of their time on their phones then actually doing their jobs. And finally the last straw for me personally was the red haired receptionist who was very rude and disrespectful. I tried asking her for help cause I was lost and she decided it was funny to play games with me instead pretending she couldn’t hear a single word I said slyly smirking at me while doing so.
First time here, hopefully won't be the last visit. Had a great time here, good vibes great music on both levels, crowd were friendly and most of them were there to actually dance which is how it should be! bar staff were efficient and helpful, nothing seemed too much trouble for them, the crowdies were good staff too , could see them keeping an eye on things and being on top of it all. My only complaint would be upstairs has a very small floor for dancing and a lot of sticky carpet, I would like to see some of the carpet removed to increase dance floor space.
Honestly, I don't even know why it has so many low reviews. It is my favourite go to club in the city. The only thing I don't like is how dirty the floors get (it's inevitable because of the hyped up crowd). But I wish there was a sitting area for when my feet get so tired in heels! Also, the mixed drinks are never good so I always opt for a premixed like a beer, etc. Otherwise, I would give it five stars. The music is amazing and so is the crowd and staff. Love love love Club Retro!
If I would give 0 stars I would, the bar tender on Friday the 4th around 9:40 pm first floor verbally assaulted me, making this the worst experience at I’ve ever experienced on a night out I will be writing to management and asking for a full refund. As a customer I shouldn’t be verbally assaulted by the staff. Absolute terrible experience. Reccomending peolle to never go.

Amazing place to go for a night out! I booked the ‘gold room’ for an event here for a friends surprise party and Daniel the venue manager couldn’t have been any more helpful if he tried. Such an easy, stress free and fantastic night. Couldn’t recommend the venue anymore if I tried. Staff were all lovely, facilities clean and I will certainly be back for future events!

Great Night, Awesome Venue, Fab Staff - We booked retro club for our end of year party and it did not disappoint. From booking to selecting the menu, wristbands, drinks etc, nothing was too hard. The night went off without a hitch, the music was great and unlike other venues, we were able to take full advantage of their happy hour so plenty of bang for our buck! Would highly recommend, Thanks Tim and team for a great job. From the B* Social Club :)
You are always guarenteed an amazing time at Club Retro! Playing the classic hits from the 1970s until 2000s across different genres in their main room and more modern music upstairs on the rooftop. The security and bar staff are friendly and I always feel safe there as a female club goer. A great place for people of all ages - young people in their 20s who like retro music and us oldies in our 40s and 50s where this was our music era hahaha.
Good club in Melbourne. It costs $25 per person to enter but you make it back with the classic tunes that are played. There were 2 floors which had different music playing but as a sober person the lack of ventilation and humidity (on an already humid night) affected our group. Generally speaking it's okay, just be aware if you go on a hot night!

Had a great night out listening to some great tracks from the 80s and 90s. 1st floor is alot more crowded and old school 80s music where the top floor has an outdoor area and is more 90s music with a colourful dancefloor and both floors have great bar service. Went out on a Saturday night so entry was $20 per person. Very crowded but still some room on the top floor for some fun.
Had the best time at Retro a couple weeks ago. Awesome music, decent drinks and nice staff. Big plus was the huge, comfortable outdoor area on the rooftop, most clubs these days either don't have a smoking area or it's a makeshift cramped spot in the back, so I was happy to find I could stay there, smoke, have a drink or two early on in the night and still hear the music.
If you are looking for 80s and 90s songs playing non-stop in a cool retro environment, this is the place to be. Love the tracks the DJs spin and quite smooth transition from track to track on two levels. . The place needs a bit of TLC, but hey! It is named retro for a reason

This place is a vibe for 90s/early 2000's songs, but the way the songs were faded together (rather poorly) wasn't it. And yes, it played some absolute bangers from those times, but it's quite base level. They could dig deeper into the current genres and even look into completely different ones from the same time frame.

Went there last night with a group of friends. Friendly vibe to the place. . Good selection of 1980's &1990's music .I have only 2 complaints. The first being that the volume was so loud that the sound was distorted and at times it was hard to pick the song playing. And the second is that the service was slow at times. Both issues could be easily fixed.
Love this place! Fun, relaxed and non- pretentious atmosphere. Staff are friendly and helpful, music is everything I loved about my teen years (and earlier). You know you up for a great night of Retro is involved. Never seen a long line for the ladies bathroom. If it's a hot night, the temperature inside can be a bit unbearable once it fills up.
Just my personal taste but the music selection was super average and the crowed was really bizarre. Some suuuuuper drunk creeps there as well. Much older crowed than myself. Was alright with the right mates but I wouldn't go again and entry was super expensive for what it was. The decor was pretty cool though if you like taking photos.
Exceptionally transphobic venue. My friend and I were informed by bar staff that there were no gender neutral bathrooms and then subsequently kicked out by two overbearing bouncers for going into one of the binary bathrooms. The best any empathetic staff could offer us was to post on the Facebook page. Completely unacceptable.
Thanks to Hamish and all the staff at Club Retro for a great 50 th birthday celebration in the function room.Everything went well, staff were extremely helpful and accomodating. All my guests had a wonderful time. The room had a great atmosphere, especially with the 80's style light up coloured dance floor . Highly recommend.
I hired out the room underneath the nightclub at Retro for a work Christmas party and was not disappointed one bit. The bar staff were very organized and friendly, the food provided was of really good quality and the DJ had everyone up dancing and having fun! Definitely worth booking if you're looking for a party venue.
Really cool vibe. Music was okay. Kind of what you'd expect at a wedding reception, deb ball or Smooth FM. The biggest gripe is it was TOO LOUD. Not like: "I'm a grandpa and my hearing aids were turned to high" , but more like: bleeding out of my ears / only communicate via text with the person next to you loud.
VERY UNSAFE!!! In only half an hour of being there we had one of our trio in an ambulance due to a spiked drink and another member hurt by someone deliberately after the two of us left in said ambo. PLEASE DO NOT COME HERE IF YOU’RE EVEN REMOTELY INTOXICATED IT IS THE MOST UNSAFE CLUB I HAVE EVER EXPERIENCED.
I didnt trust the negative reviews and went to the club. We had an amazing time. It wasnt super crowded for a Friday night. The outdoor fireplace was lovely. Some fun neon signs and different music played on each floor. It is not the most modern place but not bad either

So disappointed with our experience here. Having prepaid $35 in, no drinks included, we didn't expect to pay another $10 when we arrived, yes, $45 into a club and not a drink included, can’t believe they get away with this.. extortionate! AVOID!

The vibe of the place is amazing. It was one of the locations for a bar crawl we did on Friday. Two storied place with enough space for hanging out with friends. Two bars on both dance floors. However, alcohol was way too costly. One bottle of Corona was $13.50. So plan your drinks accordingly.
I've been at Club Retro every weekend for quite a while now and I would never go anywhere else! Great drink prices and super cheap pizzas. The rooftop beer garden is suited to all seasons and there is something for everyone. Would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a great night out.
Fun place and music is great. Thought there would be lots of oldies but the place is jammed with young people and great to see them enjoying the music. Drinks are very expensive at $11.00 for a mix but a free entry before 10pm saves you $20.00 so the first two are technically on the house.
Extended happy hours make for good deals. The beer was fresh and the cocktails were delicious too. Gets crowded quickly but because there a multiple floors, it's not too much of trouble finding a place even on weekends. You're lucky if you can play a game of ping pong in the top floor.
Always have an absolute blast here, would definitely recommend Retro for a fun night out! Party music is a big hit, normally can't drag ourselves away until they shut at like 5am! Never had an issue with any of the staff or other people there, good place for a hens/stag night as well.
We had a fantastic time down stairs in the bar, the cocktails were to die for, the food was just amazing, the atmosphere was superb. To be able to drink from a Buffalo horn was the pinnacle in anyons dining experance. The waiting staff was very professional, a big thank you to Bryon
Went on Saturday for a 40th bday party. Had a good night, music was great. Only disappointment was that there was no ouzo available at the bar. One of very few clubs I've been to that doesn't serve it. Drinks were a touch pricey but other than this we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.
Woke up in hospital confused and couldn’t see, turns out i was spiked with ghb and my partner and best friend had to give me cpr on the side of the road while we waited for an ambulance. Epic place to go if you want your drink spiked and have your friends believe you're dying.
$20 entry fee on a Saturday night which was a bit steep. Venue is OK - older crowd and some great nostalgic beats. Bar service was quick, and the place felt busy but wasn't overcrowded. Ladies bathrooms weren't well maintained. I'd go again, but it wouldn't be my first choice.
25 bucks entry fee to see people dancing in thongs And the Crowd is not very diverse, Which makes sense for a "retro" club, but still.... For 25 bucks you expect a better experience! There are better bars/clubs in the city with no entry fee and more decent crowd.
Had my birthday here last night and had an incredible night. Great music, great crowd, the manager was lovely and wished me a happy birthday and the club owner went well out of his way to look after a friend who had one too many at the end of the night. Highly recommend!
Love this place. Great set up, great service. D.J really plays to the crowd and knows what they are doing. Bouncers and staff really are switched on and know how to handle a tough crowd. Consistently good, for what it is. Love the trashy disco music on the main floor!
dj was a legend we came to both his events two days in a row because he was so cute and chill and hype. HOWEVER, if u are a woman and want to feel safe, this is not the place. could not have a minute of fun without being groped, followed or feeling unsafe in general.
Not a bad joint. Cool that it's 80s & 90s down stairs and RNB upstairs with a decent outdoor area. Would have been good if there were more beers on tap including some ales though. There was one ale on tap but they never opened that bar where the only tap for it was..
Nor a bad venue. Went with my mates as part of a bar crawl. Didn't mind the music as that was the type of music I grew up with, as my parents played that sort of music at the household. Decent vibe, not much else around. Pretty small but does thr job
Awesome venue split over 3 levels, the staff are friendly, professional. Even when you've had a little too many, you are offered bottles of water. Good vibes, great people would recommend! Soft aussie crowd, older crowd probably late 20s/ 30s/40s.
Terrible vibe here, super dead crowds now because of the DJ playing the same horrible mixes every time. DJ is the worst, also a 20 dollar cover charge is insane for this place- drinks aren't cheap either.

I just want to say a huge thank you to the staff and security for taking such great care of my daughter when she became ill and passed out. I really appreciated all they did to help. Great environment and music. We would definitely come again.
Music was bomb. Got lit here twice and it was great. I like that there's an upstairs for a diff music vibe. There is also a nice courtyard with chairs and tables in case you get a little too lit and need to sit TF down. Standard entry fees.
Great for old-school retro dance music, definately not the place to go for a catch up/chat with friends. Nightclub vibe, cover charge applies after 9PM. Typical drinks selection, not a craft beer venue. No food options upstairs in the club.
Been there about three times throughout July and again during September, I really like how nice the bar staff are, I asked them if they would do a cocktail and they made a really nice one (couldn’t tell you what it was, I just told them I
Great place for a not super young crowd. Friendly staff. Good old time fun music. Husband 35yrs love love loves this place. I would prefer if DJ had better traditions and peaks in music but still a really fun place to dance on the weekend.
Best friend was spiked here last night requiring cpr and an ambulance. She never put her drink down and kept it close to her so makes me think potentially was a member of bar staff. Other reviews confirm this is a good place to get spiked
I was at this club last night and witnessed a young bloke get man handled and thrown around by aggressive and unreasonable bouncers for no apparent reason. He was with what seemed to be his family. I will not be going here again after
Amazing club, super fun! We went on a Friday and the entrance cost us 25$ per person, but was worth it. There's two floors with awsome nostalgic songs. The only problem was the ventilation, it got really hot and humid very fast.
Music was good. Atmosphere was not. Run down venue, disinterested bar staff who could not look any more miserable. Rough looking security guards who like to flex their muscles over people enjoying themselves. Disappointed.
Really enjoy Club Retro, I have gone a few times now and you can really find something for everyone! There is a mix of 70's' 80's, 00's and then RNB upstairs! Good drink service and also an outdoors smoking area upstairs.
Look music is good, but the $25 entry is overpriced and so are the drinks, probably the last time I come here! Maybe with all the money they make from the entry fee they should spend some more money up keeping the venue!
Tickets are not expensive, but also not worth it. For people born after 2000, 80% of the songs they played you’ve prob never heard. Weird crowd indeed, don’t really feel safe. Drinks are meh and not exactly cheap either.
if you like ending up in hospital at the end of your night after having your drink spiked by some boomer who is ready for a root, club retro is the place to be. Lack of care and safety towards patrons. Avoid at all costs
Been twice now and 2 people that went with us one was my partner have had their drinks spiked , best they looking into some of their bar staff as the drinks they bought and drank straight away wiped them out not good
Their drinks selection is very typical, not a craft beer venue. Plenty of space but the area seriously needs maintenance. Great for old-school retro dance music but definitely not the place to catch up with friends.
Always play great music at the club. I accidentally dropped my keys at retro from partying too hard. The manager called me straight away once he found my keys. I wish I could tip him $100 for excellent service
Got scammed into paying 25 dollars. Worst place. Fun place for 45+ old men. Lovely bathroom girls #girlhood, outside UNSAFE! Pls watch your drinks girls! ⚠️

A pretty good classy club to hang out. A very nice dance floor with a good old music. There are more two floors where you can sit, relax and have beers. The roof top bar is awesome with some great views.
It was strange and quiet unfriendly for security guard to refuse entry to visitor although he was carrying valid international id which was in english too but he completely ignored it

My new favourite club, wish I'd found this place years ago! Great old skool tunes as the name suggests & fantastic atmosphere. Very good selection of drinks and super friendly staff & security too
Rooftop and first floor bars always shut. In reality it’s only a club on the second floor. Their google listing is inaccurate. Rude staff and a $25 cover charge which is absolutely not worth it.
The environment inside was great! Only one negative point: the club closed at around 2 am on friday night. On google map, it's says this club stays open until 5 am. Anyway, it's an amazing club!
It is what you expect. Club atmosphere with multi level retro music of different genres and nice disco lighting. Entry was $25 ea, which seemed pretty excessive and standard spirits were $12ea.
Club manager lets on-going spiking issues happen inside his club, tries to take advantage of victims and will threaten the police on you for trying to intervene. Avoid this place at all costs.
One of my favourite places to go out. Absolutely love it, great music on all floors and a beautiful beer garden upstairs. Minus one star as drinks were ridiculously expensive last weekend.
Had a great night here with a bunch of friends, the music was an awesome mix. Really fun, laid back crowd. Loved the rooftop garden and getting to go between the two floors for options.

A great place to stay young at heart, I have been twice on both times had a ball. Great music, amazing place. Go if you want to relive your youth or fancy some good old tunes.
Went to a private event but the DJ hardly played any 80's or 90's. The staff didn't know how to make cocktails. This place used to be so good, I don't think I'll be back
Much like the other comments here, paying $25 for a poorly ventilated, short list of average drinks, not a great DJ and only one floor open was highly disappointing!
Drinks were good. But let’s face it. The place it trashed. None of the toilets worked. The floor hasn’t been washed in years (sticky from the moment they opened)
Great music for those of us who are 2000s babies! Slightly pricier entry fee but well worth it if you're staying for a while. Shots tasted watered down though.
Great atmosphere, friendy crowd and good old school music. The air is a bit thick in there though, it would have got 5 stars if they had a couple of fans.

You have to pay 25 dollars to enter. Why? You could go to any other place and have a good time. The venue was great but why charge people to enter?
Music a bit pub-ish... having not been there for a decade or so, the reputation of one of the stickiest floors in Melbourne still adhered to.
Not too bad you will end up having a great time well worth the experience some nights it's 4 stars some nights it's 3 stars overall good club

My mate mathew took me here and all i can say is that this club is banging! I'll be there every weekend now! My mate pat loves the DJ
First time coming going here, super nice vibe and they're on top of the dealers on the D-Floor. I've never seen such organization.
$25 just for entry to the deadest place in Melbourne? This was literally the biggest waste of life and money. Dirty, seedy place.
