UP, UP PRICES ARE UP! Noticed a steady increase in pricing over a variety of products, for instance precooked chicken up one dollar. This particular Coles supermarket is let down by understaffing, store layout and location of service and self service checkouts. To move through the store one is required to push through long lines of people queuing up for checkout registers. Where you're supposed to line up for self service registers is confusing, it's common to see people enter through the 'exit' to use registers, bypassing the queue. Absolutely avoid using the bakery, I routinely observe staff not using gloves when handling bread... YUCK! The delicatessen can be a nightmare where I witnessed during busy periods on numerous occasions only one staff member attending the counter and the counter left empty because the poor staff member also has cleaning and other duties to attend to out back. Then to make it worse for the crowd waiting at the counter the ticketing system in place is rarely used. A supermarket to avoid at peak periods.
Great branch! It’s a very big store and they have a huge range of selection which is great! The only downside is that it’s harder to use trolleys if you’re planning to shop on both levels since they only have stairs and escalators between the two levels. I did see a guy taking a small trolley on the escalator but I think I would just drop it on myself or other people and make a huge mess if I want to try that lol that leaves me with a super heavy basket which is a little annoying. I do try to get around it by grabbing the light things first and then grab the heavier things toward the end and then head straight to the checkout. There is no parking in the area.
Simply a good place for groceries with great selection of fresh produce. Staff are always very friendly and helpful from manned checkout to self-checkout and even the guards are always very friendly and polite. There's a big section for all bakeries need and a good size delicious section for cured meat and seafood. There's public car park underground in this shopping centre. Kings Cross station is about 3 minutes walk from here. A good place for quick shopping or to browse for everything from fruits and vegetables to medicine and more. And as usual they encourage you to take up their loyalty program. A bright and easily navigable store.
I just visited Coles Kings Cross to buy some groceries. This, on the day that lockdown restrictions were extended by the NSW State government because of the seriousness of the COVID situation. And what did I find inside? THREE people casually shopping WITHOUT MASKS! I alerted the "security guard" (who was busy herding people through the self-service checkouts). He wasn't very interested - but when I emphasised THREE people, downstairs shopping now - he somewhat reluctantly wandered off - maybe to check? THIS is how seriously Coles takes the law, and it's responsibility to protect customers, their staff and the wider community. Pathetic.
Please note this review is really for a 3.5, but the good people at Google inexplicably do not allow half marks. This coles, affectionately known by me as “Coke Sign Coles”, is a perfectly acceptable supermarket. It’s probably one of the better equipped inner city supermarkets, ignoring the upmarket varieties of course. I’ve been hassled by people for change and cigarettes in there, but if you’re not overly bothered by that (everybody’s just doing what they’ve gotta do to get by, ya know?) then you’re probably not going to be overly bothered by much else in the CSC. You’re also unlikely to be wowed by anything. 3.5.
I have found that this Coles has a very large selection of foods, and a decent space to fit it all in. It is a bit lacking in stationary (no staplers or staples), and the checkout is confusing at best (the self serve checkouts are in the way of getting to the people checkouts, and there is nowhere to line up for the self serve checkouts). Also also, their steaks are very lacking - several times now i have come in looking for a steak, but have had to go for another meat since they had next to no selection in steaks. Still, this place had a decent selection, and since it is Coles it has decent prices!
With narrow entrance and underground feel, you'd not expect much at first ... buttttt They have cooler for some of their bakery at the time of this writing (March18). This means they have baked good with real fresh cream unlike Woolworth - such as sponge cake with cream and lamingtons with cream. I also discovered Cotton Candy Grapes here! They taste exactly like cotton candy! Other hot tips - they have nice oil packed mussels and cheap 3$ Mixed kale salad (without dressing) that you pay 5$ for at Woolies. Granted, Woolies have their own stuff that I like.
At at Snap shot of my experience, it seems the security guard has taken to his role far more vigorous than needed, I was a customer made no attempt to thief anything in fact it's all on ctv, yet he imtidades me, whilst customers and staff tried to assist, then even had the hide to call me a shoplifter, I would think very carefully knowing all this was available on CTC, to employ security who really do there job ,not over act, and this I intend to forward to management,,, wrong to treat people the way I was it's now 9.07pm,sat 25th
I shop at this store quite often. They usually have the items I am seeking except often they are short on 1 litre lite milk or GF Special K almonds and cranberry cereal. My 3 star rating though is based on the fact this store does not have mobile phone reception or signal is very weak. Coles needs to see if telecoms can install booster technology to get signal in store. This is a particular concern since COVID and the requirement to QR check in. You have to leave the store and go outside the Centre and return back to the store.
Horrible customer service without proper knowledge what they are doing. Went to the shop to buy a gift card. Paid with a card and it had gone through while the gift card loading was failed. Wasted more than 1/2 hour, but the staff could not figure out what the problem is. The lady said she would refund it, but it turned out she charged one more time. I'll have to go back to get another refund. Do not expect any proper customer service at this store.
Ugly Indian older lady and I have lots (Indian friends)who works self service checkouts most weekends lunchtimes, unfriendly looks at you like you have stolen something, especially if you are using your own bag and have some items in it from another shop. Many other supermarkets in the area to shop at.Most other staff are friendly, customers are paying your wages.Get a real job that's if someone would want you :-))
I wanted to buy some cherries today (around 3:15pm) but when I got to where they were, this Chinese woman, I guess around 35, had opened all the resealable bags and was dipping into each of them picking out only what she wanted . So I confronted her and asked her what she was doing. She angrily left. I saw something similar at the nuts section months back. I was disgusted so I left and went to Woollies instead.
12 May 2023: Escalator access to the basement - which forms the majority of the store - was severely impeded as a consequence of tradies trying to repair one and narcissistic customer traffic attempting to use the single available thoroughfare in a bidirectional frenzy of rudeness. To be fair, the escalators at Woolworths Metro across the road were not functioning either, but neither were blocked for repairs.
Sign in for COVID isn’t great - there isnt any mobile/internet reception at the front door so you can’t sign in, they also don’t really check for this nor enforce people not wearing masks. No internet also means you can’t look anything up or communicate to your household when you’re in shore, eg to look for alternatives when items are out of stock. On that note, items are regularly out of stock here.
Always friendly. I did just have a miss hap as I was waiting for quite a while, 1st in line at self check out. Belt strap blocking to go in as all machines were malfunctioning. Waited, still not acknowledged. 10people behind me. He then opens up the tills for the people behind me. So I'm their to wait for another 10people?? Was not acknowledged once Or even "I'll be right with you". So I left.
Gotta love the Cross....sooo eclectic, definitely getting more interesting with great shops from a fab little tea house to a second hand store that looks like a Harvey Nics! Plenty of places to investigate if you are a foody and some hot little bars to while away the long summer evenings. There are plenty of gyms, and a great market on a Saturday...Kingscross is getting that village feeling
Keep finding new levels deep down underground I go - like the Dwarf Mines of Moria, everytime I'm there. I think the milk is on level 643⬇️, you'd think they'd put stuff like (some) milk, bread etc on the 1st floor(?) Why would you do that? Make it hard 4 Granny who just wants her f*** milk. 4 stars coz Coles' bakery destroys Woolies bakery (sanitised) hands down.
I'm biased cos it's my local. The reason I gave 4 is because locals have to share it with visitors/tourists in the heart of Kings cross. Try and avoid times between 6pm-7pm due to high volume of customers from locals finishing work and gym junkies finishing work outs lol. Staff always friendly and Coles are always working on improvements where necessary. Happy shopping.
Unique Kings Cross Coles experience in a labyrinthine grocery sanctuary right at the heart of the Cross. Clientele very Kings Cross. Intriguing store layout over 3 levels encourages exploration but frustration. The store is remarkably congested in early evening peak times and occasionally remarkably rude staff increase the challenge.
This is my go to for groceries. It’s cheaper than Woolworths and has good specials. The deli has good quality products and I love their fresh roasted chickens and pork with crackling. But what I mostly like about shopping at Coles Kings Cross is all the HOT guys who shop here after their gym and sauna session at Fitness First.
It's a pretty standard if not kind of small Coles. Split over two stories, with produce at the top and almost everything else downstairs, so it might be a bit inconvenient to do a huge shop with a trolley (you'll have to take the lift) Still, the staff are friendly and the range is pretty good for a smallish supermarket.
Stood at the counter for 5 mins and no one severed me before walking aroung to other side where a staff was, as I was buying cigarettes I was told to go to the otherside. As the staff knew I was waiting but still hadnt come around it left me to leave to store NOT SERVED. what kind of service is this?? ridiculous!
Love Coles Kings Cross, it makes Aldi look likethey sell over priced rubbish. When will we see a Coles put in Darlimghurst as we have Aldi which Ltd hours and expensive and Woolworths Metro which is so overpriced as it refuses to go back being a Super Market, Coles has the guts to say we are a Supermarket.
Only good thing it opens til 11pm. Otherwise, lack of products everyday everytime. It's unforgivable considering how many people go there after work and how many backpackers go there!!! They should be able to restore asap. It all started since they extended the store are and most likely reduced storing.
Mostly good experiences. Was falsely accused of shoplifting once, which was a humiliating experience. Bakery staff do not wear gloves when handling bread. Did receive excellent customer service from supervisor when deli staff refused to sell item for display price, got the item for free
Though the place opens at 7am they are never stocked, unfortunately there isn't a woolies next door. Employ a person to come in 30 mins earlier. That's steak on the ground in the cold section. Your register weighing system is rubbish compared to other supermarkets
Good Coles. Usually well stocked and has what you need. Can get busy but lots of self check-out registers speed up the payment as typically people only locals shop light here rather than a typical Coles with lots of family/trolley purchasers. No parking.
It's the best Coles I have ever been to and the bread was fresh every day and easy to. Get to. And I earn flybuys points and I use self. Services and staff was very nice and friendly and helpful and I can't fault this place and. I shop. There again
A big thank you to Bronwyn at the self check-out! She doesn't miss a thing and kept safe all the cash out that I left behind. Well spotted! She gave it back to me the next day after showing her my receipt and wouldn't even accept a tip...
I found things to hard to find. Groceries scattered everywhere things that should be together weren't you had to shop on 2 floors and pay on top floor. Worst Coles I have ever shopped in. Best thing was the staff very friendly and helpful
Used to buy pastry from the bakery plus other items on the way to work every morning . But there seem to be a team change thus everything from bakery not ready when i stopped by in the morning. Time to try Woolworths next to the station.
Unique upstairs, downstairs layout with built in lift and escalators. But its got everything you need in a top location along with Woolworth metro across the road and the main stretch of kings cross night-life with KFC etc down the road.
Its small but big if ya get what I mean, nice & clean, poky payment area tho but it gets the job done ✔️ quite a few staff members around busy & not really wanting to help but they do in the end. excellent bakery on site..
Surprisingly big store with 2 floors. Fresh food is good, enough groceries options, customer service is nice. Evening is very busy, afternoon is busy, rest of the times are average. Store 7am-Midnight everyday. Wow!!!
Not what it once was. Lock outs and lockdowns killed this once busy place. All walks of life was once here. Now nothing but takeaway food shops, for lease signs everywhere. Thanks Barry, you killed our area. Muppet
Constantly running out of key items like eggs and avocados. There is often chaos at the deli, whether it is an enormous line or no one serving and their self service checkout machines are constantly giving errors.
This place never has things stocked on shelves.. The items aren't priced. Just to ask a price I had to talk to three people including the manager. See pics. Always rude... Better to go to Woolworths down.the road.
The goods are quite complete. You can usually find what you want. But here's a white female employee with short hair who has serious discrimination. Asian people who come here for shopping should be careful.
I'm a frequent customer, like twice a week shopper. Service is awesome and place is clean. Almost everything you need is in there. Except for clothing, which is available from other shops around Coles KX.
2 min from the King Cross station, very complete in all kind of food. Have two level accessible by mechanical stairs. Usually have some offers, is a good idea to grab the magazine at the entrance.
Coles Supermarket in Kings Cross is close to transport, backpacker accomodation, bars and lots more. Always friendly staff. good products but sometimes sold out. on rush hours very full and busy.
Good market. Large two story underground facility. With everything you need. Unfortunately, for the first time ever, I was advised to stop taking pictures. But before that, I snapped a few.
Accessible for customers. Staff are helpful. Security at the entrance during Covid times. Such a variety of food to choose from. Hot food available. BWS adjacent to entrance. Worth a visit
Very friendly staff and I've been shopping there for years specifically Sultana and Jeena. Whenever I needed assistance they were always there for me Well done Coles kings Cross …
Always clean, well stocked and self service checkouts always available. Fresh food departments are always stocked well and fresh. Staff are generally helpful and friendly.
We have a gathering in my room and planed for having a cake and bought this cake but this is completely tasteless and bitter. Really feeling disappointed with this:(
My favourite Coles. Always has what I'm looking for in stock and when you look for something in their app, you find it in the aisle it says unlike other supermarkets
It's okay without being pretentious. Pretty much has everything you'd expect for a Supermarket and alot more cost effective than the Woolworths across the road.
Coles is iconic for its position in service delivery for the inner city area of Kings Cross. The new look of store has made shopping easier with the new layout
If you’re going to accuse someone of being a thief, & have a masked co-worker trying to intimidate them, study the law. I don’t steal. I know my rights.
Umm, it was ok...i guess. I Broke my heel on the way back from there so...go at ur own risk. 5 stars for coles, 4 stars for my experience walking home.
It's a supermarket, so yeah.... Good service and decent deli and fresh food section. Well stocked and clean, good prices, that's about all I can say.
Store is pretty big (two levels) and find it really easy navigate though. Staff is friendly, and self-checkout makes everything easier and faster.
Coles has always been good to me but the bread they make at the bakery always falls apart and the shelfs with certain foods is always bare
Didn’t allow me in 2 minutes before closing. Security guard and girl with brown bob just staring at me with rude faces shaking their heads
Not the biggest coles but has all necessities. Its on lower ground plus there is a level underneath. Helpful staff
A whole supermarket behind a couple of sliding doors. Great for small shopping trips in the city.
It's great place to get all your goodies and I go in mid day and never too crowded.
Great staff and the place meets my needs generally …
It is a very nice supermarket with helpful and friendly staff Miss you all Nikola
Horrible Coles. No parking, staff with no manors and no lifts for prams etc.
Staff are lazy and won’t let you in if you arrive 10 minutes before closing
One of the biggest supermarket around the area. Has what I m looking for.
A poorly designed super market, good luck finding what you looking for.
This place would be better if it were pram and wheel chair accessible.
Very cool Metro shop close & convenient for what U need
Well stocked with friendly helpful staff.
Very good place to buy your groceries.
Sharon is always super friendly!
