Cockatoo Island is an interesting place to spend half a day wandering around. Nice to have a picnic. You can camp overnight in the glamping tents, and use the microwave, fridge, BBQ plates and hot showers. Camping is better in cooler months, as inside of tent reaches 60 degrees in summer. Tent setup not conducive to romance as they have 2 single camp stretchers. Regular ferry service to Circular Quay until midnight via F8 ferry. Has 2 licenced cafes, but on Friday they close at 6:00pm and on Saturday they close at 9:00pm, so you're betting off spending the evening in the city and then going to the island later to sleep.

This place is excellent to visit, especially in weekdays when is not crowded. Beautiful place to have a long walk, lot of barracks to see where you may find excibitions. There is beautiful cafe in the top of the hill where the view to Sydney (and bridge) is amazing. The cafe is not always open. Also, you will find place to camp if you want (not for free) and beautiful australian homes to spend the night.

Really nice place. Came here with my family for a tour during the night and is was a real fun experience. I enjoyed learning about all the different buildings along with their pasts. I also enjoyed hearing all the paranormal experiences people had witnessed, made me very excited. I plan on coming back again to camp here for a night, very much looking forward to it.

Nice day trip idea, especially the journey on the ferry/rivercat. Great for a date. Would recommend the audio tours, only $5 each. Gives you a brief historical tour of the key places of interest. If you need a feed, head to the burger place thats right near the visitor centre and has a courtyard. Its really nice food and affordable too.

Absolutely brilliant ruins of buildings from the convict era, possibly unique in Sydney. The island is nowadays surrounded by dense suburbia on nearby shores so it's not easy to imagine what the view looked like when the buildings were constructed. A must-see for any visitors to Cockatoo Island And worth a special trip to the island.

The Convict Precinct is one of the oldest group of houses on these island. The sandstone give a unique color and the audio tour let history get a live again. With a little bit of fantasy you can imagine how bad the circumstances have been but nowadays a place of living history with free entry.

Went there on a saturday night for a spook. On our way to board the ferry back the main land, my opal card disappeared. Even so, it is a nice place to visit.

Fantastic place with a cruel history, very interesting to see how things went in 1841. Stories of convicts that had a very cruel time, and the life went for the convicts that had spent their time here.

  • Olivia Spice (ospic1)

Interesting area however it would have been better if the area was like it was during the time. Inside the rooms were modern art works that did not reflect the history. I was very disappointed.

Great place to spend a day with family. Kids would love the ferry ride. Coffee shop is also helpful.

Something beautiful to see. Also the trip on ferry is a nice thing to do. The view and the perspective from there is different to what you usually see.

This was a really interesting free attraction in Sydney. Can't go wrong visiting and learning some really fascinating facts about Sydney's history!
