We entered with great expectations, as the restaurant was packed inside. The atmosphere was great and people seemed happy. The food, however, was a little bit of a letdown taking into account that we came from quite some distance, and paid quite a bit @ R350 pp. The beans were a little too crunchy for my liking although I accept that some people may like it that way, the beef was stringy which unfortunately beef mostly is, and the dessert was to say the least, strange. A few bites ( piece of milktart, chocolate shaped like a hat etc., placed on a cloud of " blue " spookasem". Unfortunately the spookasem made the bottoms kind of soggy. Although the dessert was different than the normal, it gave a rather " kitch" appearance. The only thing I loved were the small pumpkin fritters. Overall the food was enough, and hats off to the owners and chef who are trying to come up with a nice experience. But personally I think it must be back to the drawing board. Please also see my review as an attempt to help you guys improve and to become a place people talk about and want to go visit on a Sunday, you already have a great setting, all that is needed is a few changes. People love home cooking when they go out to the country side.

We tried Droom today for a Father’s Day Sunday lunch. Recently under new ownership, Sunday lunch has changed from a buffet to a harvest table format, which we quite like. Priced at R350 per person (we checked, this is the standard Sunday lunch price) and being a good hours drive from Cape Town, our expectations were high. The ‘starter’ consisted of some fresh breads and dips. All very tasty, but it had us looking at the menu to see what we were missing. The main meal was great, enough food for everyone and all very tasty. Finally the desert of petit fours (or is it petty threes?) arrived and we all started laughing. Three bites, none of which were particularly good, but really left us feeling like we had been duped at this price point for a 3 course lunch. I really understand that weekends generate the vast majority of their revenue, but as a destination venue, they need to have a reason for people to travel all that way. The previous owners offered a generous variety of traditional South African fare. The current offering feels like we were overcharged for a single course and left us all underwhelmed.

Beautiful venue and stunning ambiance. The service was good, but.. 1) For Sunday Buffet you pay R350 p.p - in Cape Town that is going rate, I would rather call it a Country Feast or Family feast as food is placed on your table and each person then dish up 2) The amount feels expensive, for what one receive. 3) The desert was a total let down 4) Main meal very boring for what the chef is actually capable and taking her achievements and where she has worked as well as learned from into consideration- honestly then the meal feels like a rip off. 5) Food was cold when arrived at table. Die Meul has so much potential, I think this way of serving food is an experiment and the restaurant has not found their space to shine yet.

The restaurant is located in a lovely little town Philadelphia & occupies the entire old mill factory...the restaurant has beautiful deco & is quite large seating area...it's not very intimate & we were seated in a busy throughfare which we did ask to be moved but were told we could'nt move even though the restaurant was empty when we arrived...it did get busy later...so the food itself...the food is typical Afrikaans cuisine...it's not really special...it's good & you get a good portion but it's not fine dining or overly extraordinary...for R350 per person it's quite allot of money to pay besides offcourse the distance to drive from Cape town...but you do get to taste typical boere Kos & the quantity is certainly more than enough...

We arrived promptly at 13h00 for our booked timeslot. Bread was served and we then waited until 15h00 for our main course. How do have a set menu with a booking slot and have to wait for 2hrs? Not a 3 course meal. I mean almost every restaurant serves complimentary rolls. We were 8 people and we really don't mind paying 350 per head. But eating in CT you expect something to stand out and go. You know what, that tasted great. Well we left underwhelmed and hungry. Whiskey options were so limited. No Johnie Black, no Jameson Reserve. Left really confused where this restaurant is trying to pitch itself and to which consumers. Waitres tried her best. She had wally too many tables to serve.

So R350 - I was expecting slightly more. Starters is 2 pieces of bread with some dip and butter, mains is well-done lamb sliced in gravy with a small cup cake sized chicken pie, green beans in mash, and rice with chopped veg in it. Dessert was peppermint crisp tart. Now bear with me here because for 350 per person, I just think it should have been more. Maybe a proper starter or a more intricate dessert…..or perhaps the lamb could have been more special, I am not sure. Service and ambience are perfect, wine prices are so so - I am glad I went to experience it but not sure I would be back in a hurry. Purely my taste but I can get more for my buck elsewhere. Food is delicious though - proper home cooked food as opposed to gourmet fancy food.

I've been at Droom three times. The menu just gets better and better. I am vegan, and every visit, the staff at Droom has done more and more to cater to my needs (which I appreciate so greatly). At our last visit, we were a vegan, vegetarian and omnivore at the table. Tall order! They went out of their way to accommodate us all and the food was absolutely delicious. I had just been to Italy the week before, and the Italian menu I ate at Droom was even better than what I ate at the real deal. (And so was every other feast we've had there before.) The gnocchi melted in the mouth and the flavours were unbelievable. I am so happy to have this amazing restaurant in our beautiful town. Thank you to the whole team.

The food is excellent! We had the Sunday lunch which was served at our table. At first we had ciabattas and 'mosbolletjies'. It was followed by roast lamb, chicken pie, green beans, pumpkin puffs and a salad. The dessert was a bit disappointing but after having a big meal I suppose it was more than enough. It was served in one plate for the table and included a selection of 3 bite-sized desserts for each person and candy floss. The candy floss was a bit weird. Perhaps a tasty brownie and cream or good old malva pudding would have been a better idea. Nevertheless, the meal was really good!

Charming and delightfully decorated. We went for the Sunday lunch. The mains was delicious and we all enjoyed the succulent lamb, pampoenkoekies and other sides. I would have expected a soup to be served with the starter as 2 small breads doesn’t really qualify as a ‘starter’ for a 3 course meal at the price, likewise the pudding was rather small and bland so it’s really only only, at a push 2 course meal marketed as 3 course. It was a little noisy so some noise absorbing decor could help patrons be able to hear eachother better. Nevertheless, we did enjoy the experience and the friendly staff.

In contrast to our visit in April: food his time was rather cold, waiter less attentive. Made mistake with bill. It was a birthday again. In April birthday girl was offered a glass of bubbles. not this time. Salad was delicious. Better than in April. Will I visit again? Probably . With less expectation though . It is a lovely drive from Melkbos.

How do you describe perfection? The food was absolutely beyond phenomenal. The service is top notch: welcoming, friendly and super efficient. The atmosphere is just as amazing and the only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is because children kept running in and out a door we were sitting next to and it was quite disturbing & cold as they kept leaving it open as they ran out (it was extremely cold today). We're excited to go back.

Overpriced. Must say the marketing photos and industrialization is done really well, not the experience of the food. NOT a buffet, fixed tiny portions served to customers in bowls, no self serving. Food did not meet any world class standard as what was expected. Service was good, and atmosphere is creative.

After our first visit we couldn't wait to come back! So pleased to see the food is consistently outstanding. Melt in the mouth lamb!!!! and really unusual, exciting flavours putting a twist on the homemade, family lunch feeling. Ambience was just lovely - candles and decor made for a cozy home away from home environment. This place gets fully booked quickly folks and I have a feeling it's going to get more and more popular so don't miss out!

R350pp is expensive for what you get, the food was good but not mind blowing...Unfortunately alot of the reviews we read prior to visiting are exactly what we experienced,we wanted to give this place a try, but lunch left me underwhelmed and dissapointed as the place is really cozy and gives you a real homely sunday lunch vibe...

Judging by other reviews , I share the same sentiment. Average Sunday lunch type meal for a high price with long wait between courses. What left a bad taste in my mouth tho was the barman.... Unfriendly and added a tip without asking!!! Also sold me the most expensive tequila shot without confirming. Won't return.
