"The worst Dan Murphy's Liquor Store that we have shopped in"
On Saturday 30 January my wife and I went to a restaurant that was a little walk away called Yes Please. This restaurant was closing down and could only accept cash and no cards were accepted, but we didn't know this until after we had our meal and we had to pay. So, as we hardly carry any cash on us these days we had to find an ATM. There was no ATM close by so I thought perhaps Dan Murphy's would allow me to draw some cash out if I bought something. Walked in to the store and was greeted by a rather rude Security Guard in the early afternoon. The gentleman on the cash register was a pleasure to deal with, as were the staff in store - very polite and accommodating - helped me to find a non-alcoholic drink, excellent service..... BUT! ...... What a shocking experience I had with the Security Guard posted at the door! I had just purchased a non-alcoholic drink, as I do not drink alcohol, and was on my way out the door when the Security Guard stepped out and blocked my way. He asked me if I had anything in my pockets. He was asking this as he was crouching down in front of me trying to look under my shirt in front of everyone. I told him I had not stolen anything, if that was what he was trying to say and I lifted my shirt up. I was shocked at this, as other people were walking out without being questioned. Why did he target me? Was it how I looked or something?! I WILL NEVER GO BACK TO THIS STORE AS LONG AS THEY POST THAT SECURITY GUARD. WHAT A HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE! DAN MURPHY, ARE YOU GOING TO LET THIS BEHAVIOUR CONTINUE?
Recently moved and started going to this Dan Murphy's instead of the Sunnybank one. The 1 star is because when I was entering today some security guard asked for my ID. I said "really?" (since I don't look even close to 18) as I pulled it out and casually threw it about 5-10cm into his outstretched hand. (I was just very relaxed, at least until the following happened) It landed in his hand perfectly but when he saw it in his hand he just freaked out, purposefully dropped it and started yelling at me. Some lady who was serving people said to me "mate if you keep doing that you will be removed from the store" to which I replied "sorry" but apparently this warning was a complete lie since the security guard then told me to pick up my ID to which I bent over to do so but before I could reach it he kicked it out of the store and told me I was kicked out. Really? I had said sorry immediately but apparently that isn't good enough. Apparently thesedays softly throwing a passport 5-10cm into someones hands is grounds to treat that person like an undesirable and kick them out. I started heading out to leave while both the lady and the security guard kept trying to escalate the matter completely unnecessarily. Talk about a power trip. I'm no thief and I wasn't looking for trouble. I didn't mean to upset them but they could have at least given me a chance to behave in the strict manner they demanded. The security guards at the Sunnybank store were really cool and friendly and this would have never happened at that store.
Disgraceful attitude by two staff members at Dan’s Woolloongabba this evening at around 6:30pm However it was delightful to see the manager come over and put this particular pathetic power tripping female staff member in her place. Ironically, all the other ladies are polite, friendly and helpful 9 times out of 10 at almost every other Dan’s, (and this store when she’s not around scaring off valuable customers) the staff are more than happy to price match with their own website prices without the hassle of having to stand their and pre order online while standing right there in que! Her male colleague at the registers nearby also puffed up his chest and tried to be the big man saying no to the customer without even checking the circumstances... He was also put in his place by the manager that handled the situation positively and professionally. Obviously it’s the manager their that understands that customers pay their wages... Not those two liabilities!
Absolutely appalled by the service. My boyfriend and I only walked up to the door to go in. I had no mask on as I have an exemption which was explained. And I could tell already by then I was being judged. We were asked to show ID which I happily co-operated with. I am 18 and my ID was approved by the security guard. My boyfriend however is 17 and wasn't allowed in which I understand. So he agreed to wait in his car. However, I was then not allowed in. What is horrible service about this is thay when I asked why multiple times I was not given any answer what so ever as to why I wasn't allowed. In just told repeatedly I cannot enter. Absolutely disgusted. I was already feeling judged by not wearing a mask. And then embarrased for being kicked out for no reason. Wish I could rate 0 stars. However, beside the security guard on duty that day other times I have been in the staff have been very helpful and friendly and have not at all made me feel horrid.
The worst Dan Murphy's Liquor Store that we have shopped in. I spoke to, and complained to the store manageress, regarding the on going poor service that we have all been experiencing from various staff members over a period of time, every time we all shop at Dan Murphy's Woolloongabba , thus only to be acknowledged by the manageress with her condescending manner, poor excuses and no answers whilst at the same time she was talking down to me and insulting my intelligence only to then realize after complaining and listening to her, that she too, was inept and a legend in her own mind. We won't be going back there. Obviously, Dan Murphy's only employ care takers, and call them managers. Avoid this store at all lengths, make and take the time to travel to either BWS, First Choice or Liquorland.
The 2 stars is for the range of products in the store. Apart from that the moment I and my friend entered the store we were greeted with a suspiscious look by the pixie hairstyled female staff. From there when we proceeded to buy the liquor the passive aggressive staff asked for my id which was astonishing as i had never been asked for my id before and We are 25 years old and dont look under 18. I had the id in the form of my country's licence. But she said it should be in english which it was and asked not only me but my friend to produce I.D as well in a very rude yet passive manner. When we returned with the id we were met with an unfriendly attitude as if we were buying the liquor for free. Never coming back if this lady is still there who was rude to other customers as well.
To be fair, I went just before Christmas and the place was packed, parking was a nightmare and the (what I assume) full time staff seemed to be lacking any real interest. They had (again, what I assume) a bunch of casuals/temp staff working wearing high vis for a delivery company (can't recall what the name was) they are associated with but they were more than friendly, happy to provide advise and recommendations. To Dan Murphys credit, they did seem to have people helping with traffic but really, was little more than a couple of people just standing there without providing any real direction or coordination.
Dodgy - Went to buy St Henri Shiraz, thought I would google price first, their own website had it at the lower price, when I asked to match it they first said they don't match the website if it's from another state (even if it's their own) as the taxes are different state to state, we changed it to Queensland and price was still lower, they then said it must be a glitch and then said they would not honour it as the their website said out of stock, they advertise heavily they are the best prices, this is definitely not the case (people just don't bother to compare).
I got carded twice before even going to the register. Instead of being asked if I needed help a staff member asked quite rudely for my ID and then left. Someone else who was much nicer then came and asked me if I needed any help when I asked for 3 different common wines and a cider which they didn't have any of. What is the point of having a security guard at the entrance checking ID if you're then going to get carded multiple times while just looking? All I wanted was a red wine to have with dinner!
If you've been to Dan Murphy's, you know what to expect. Massive store, good prices, lots to choose from. All the major brands and then a ton of store brand and Woolworths exclusive brands / imports. They also have some more boutique stuff, but not tons. Coorparoo junction (one suburb over) has a couple of bottle-o with much better boutique options, but if you are after good prices for a decent range of pretty good stuff, Dan Murphy's is great. Watch the opening hours though. They close quite early.
I am only a relatively newcomer to Dan Murphy’s. The Gabba-East Brisbane is my local albeit 5-6km away. At every visit I amazed at the range of wine and beer on offer. And being such a big store, it can be hard to find what you want. But the staff are excellent. On most visits, someone will ask if they can help me. Otherwise, if I ask for help, they are only too happy to help. If you really want the best prices and the great offer bargains, join the Loyalty program at Dan Murphy’s.
I was here late yesterday morning and regret not asking for the name of the girl who assisted me to find a particular Shiraz. She was wonderful and really went above and beyond. Once we located it she even offered to search the storage shed for me to find one more bottle to make up a carton, and every other staff member who noticed me waiting while she was gone stopped and asked whether I needed assistance. What amazing service - well done guys.
This store is conveniently located just off Stanley Street, but with three possible entrances into the car park you can sometimes have to wait a couple of minutes while cars manoeuvre in and out of parking spaces. This is especially so in the short stay spaces directly adjacent to the Stanley Street entrance which can result in cars queueing out onto the road itself. The spaces also seem quite narrow, adding to the chaos!
Such a bad experience just before 30 min... Not sure about the guy name...i just visited the shop...he asked me to show my id and i did...but he wants to see my friends id too but they didnt bring the ids...what kind of logic is this ..he didnt allow me alone too....bad bad bad experience...am a return customer here and own my membership...this should be last time ...hereafter i never visit you guys....byeee
Great location for all your drink needs! There are so many options and the prices are extremely reasonable! The staff are also friendly and helpful which makes the experience that much more seamless! It’s also fun to go in and buy something new and different and the knowledgeable staff are always around to provide recommendations!
Plenty of stock and easy to find what you are looking for. The store is always clean every time I go in, the prices are reasonable (for Australia lol) and the staff are always helpful and friendly. There is parking available but smaller than standard and often difficult to get one, but mostly because of the location I think.
Very busy when i visited. There was parking attendance assisting everyone in the car park. Enough registers open to handle all the patrons. Prices were as per normal for the store. They had wheat i was looking for although seemed like a smaller than usual store. I would shop here again if i was in the area and needed too.
I just watched a Dan murphys delivery driver delivering to 72 Merivale street at south brisbane at 2.45 pm throwing alcohol packages around in his van like they were pillows....... is this the sort of behaviour Dan Murphys condones or expectes from their delivery drivers? Dan Murphys you should be ashamed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The staff were friendly, security guard was courteous making sure people were signing in. I asked them if they sold Pepsi Max and they checked their system for me but unfortunately didn't have any. May be worth expanding range/supply of soft drinks in store for that extra convenience! Otherwise really good service.
Huge range of products to choose from with new options popping up regularly, and knowledgeable staff floating around to steer you in the right direction if you need help or advice. Unbeatable on price, too (even if it's only by a few cents). I've had no trouble getting someone to price-beat another bottle-o for me!
Probably one of the better Dan Murphy's in Brisbane, it has to be, as there are many good boutique bottle shops around. Staff are very helpful, and they always pass you onto someone more knowledgeable if you're looking for something distinct. Parking is the only issue on big days (days before public holidays).
Super central, easy access (once you know how), plenty of parking, and very helpful staff. There are some lines they don't carry, but the range is enormous and the prices are okay. TIP: Join as a member, for there are member specials, and you don't even have to carry your card - just know your phone number.
Dan Murphy's is the saviour of humanity. Great staff, very helpful and knowledgeable with a smile to make your experience even better. Awesome selection and best prices. Become a member for even more fantastic deals. My second favorite place in Brisbane. Can't mention my favorite on this forum. Thanks Dan
The staff were wonderfully helpful on this visit. The base range of stock looks good but a few shelves were empty, which was disappointing. The car park is an absolute cluster bomb, so definitely better to walk or cycle if you can. They're very happy to give you a box to aid carrying if you need it.
Great range, great store and great staff, but the tiny car park is a great pain. This Dan Murphy's has been shoe-horned into a high (and getting higher) density part of Brisbane. I think this DM was meant to service local foot traffic. If you have a car take advantage and go elsewhere.
Excellent bottle shop. Massive range, good deals, and very helpful staff who are willing to track down particular drinks for you if you can't find them on the shelf. Definitely worth signing up for a Dan Murphy's card as well as it gives you access to some pretty worthwhile specials.
Great selection of beers, including Belgian, British, Czech and German beers as well as most Australian beers. The best deals are only available for club members - it's free so we joined. BTW great wine selection too. Plus they have their own parking lot, so it's easy to stop by.
Unfortunately the checkout lady was bit too lazy. Got a wine bottle which said festivities bag is included. When asked she didn’t bother checking. Then when scanned for member card, she couldn’t bother to scan properly either. Otherwise big store. Improve your checkout personnel.
It's Dan Murphy's, what more can I say! They have the best selection of beer, wine and spirits at reasonable prices. Possibly the cheapest in Brisbane, maybe even the WORLD!! But if you're in the neighbourhood and looking for a quality drop then you can't go past it! …
Selection is top notch and prices are likely the best around. Biggest downside was their security. Got carded by some bloke at the door then carded once more at the register. What's the point of the first man if I'm reaching for my ID again? It's embarrassing. Sort it out.
I popped in to grab some drinks and was kindly greeted by Ari who took me exactly where I needed to go. He had great product knowledge and made some fantastic recommendations. He even priced matched my drinks! I would highly recommend Ari and the team. Thanks again mate.
The staff were nice and helpfull. But i was looking for a spirit drink called Arak and couldnt find it as you have to order it online to get it which means you will wait almost a week to get a drink, i hope they consider having Ksara or Toma Arak in shop. Thanks
Please make sure you and your friends got id always with you while entering into dans. The security person asks everyone and very strict. And also have the member card because on friday night there will be good offers in the store for members thanks …
Great range of products in store and even more avail online, friendly staff, prompt service and very knowledgeable, thanks to the GABBA TEAM. WELL DONE. but sharpen your pencils on your prices, it should not be my job to say I can get it cheaper elsewhere.
Convenient liquor store offering a wide range of alcoholic beverages at affordable prices. They have a great and wide selection in beer and wines. Their options is more limited in the rums section. The overall organization of the store could be improved.
Great staff and good discounts on repeat members, worth it every time. The staff are great. If you need anything they are cool , they can tell you as much info as you need about item's. I go there when I need somthing good quality and for a smile.
Went in to buy gin. Was none on the shelf. When we spent 10 minutes looking for someone who could provide customer service the guys was response was...oh....I think we sold out a few days ago not sure. Sorry Ummm maybe check, sorta your job mate.
Big selection and decent prices. Last experience was the worst. The checkout operator had a bit of an attitude when asked about price matching. I am a loyal member, but finding that prices have been more expensive than other retailers lately.
Really friendly staff! Very busy location but they are well staffed to manage customer demand we were able to easily get help twice, once for more stock on remano port, and to locate the can cartons of extra dry, great service with a smile
Dan murphys is the best for liquor in australia. Members deals are great. Terrific range and website. Would be good to have a bicycle rack at the store to encourage people to cycle. The carpark can be a bit horrible at peak times.
They are sometimes unsure of where they store the click and collect items. That being said, the staff are generally helpful and friendly, plus running from the back dock to the front counter to the storage shed is good excercise.
Ridiculous power-tripping security. Let three of our group in without checking ID, then stops one of us who didn’t and says “everyone needs ID”. Why is no one allowed in when you just let three people in? At least be consistent.
Parking can be very difficult and store is super full. Whilst wine is of a good selection i feel it takes up too much of the store and could be allocated to the beer and spirits which i feel is squashed into the back and side.
Tried to get delivery. There website is difficult to use. In fact impossible. Gave up. Rang store for help only to find recorded machine. You cannot call and speak to someone. Why do stores like this make customers the enemy.
I regret not catching the name but a lovely lady at the register on the 12/05/23 around 12pm was just the most lovely person. She made me feel so happy and turned my day from stressed to feeling good. I hope I see her again!
I enjoyed my visit to Dan Murphy's. This chain is to be congratulad for having an excellent range of product, with excellent service to back that up. I'd personally like to mention the VictoriaPoint and Woolloongabba stores.
The guy in the service counter called Gerard was so rude. His customers service skill was so bad that I could give minus if possible. I hope he's not there any more when we come and visit since we are the regular. So rude!!!
Huge bottle shop with a fantastic selection. You've got to get very picky before they don't have what you want. I was looking for Scottish beer to celebrate Burns Night and yes, they had Bellhaven ale. Well done, DM's!
Went there today at 8:20pm to pick up online order after work and found the store closed when it is advertised open until 9pm. Six other customers were turned away by closed doors. Customer service is going downhill.
Great deals and very friendly service. Dropped a bottle of beer by accident and they were nice enough to not charge me for that + gave me paper towels to wipe the beer off my hands and feet. Very happy with them!
Spent $10k at Dan Murphy's this Christmas. Will never shop here again. The customer service is so bad, no one will call you back or read your emails, no one cares. Leaving this review on every store I can find.
Best prices and excellent variety, the staff are just the friendliest and they will happily help you find what you want and the best is that they wont bother you if you don't ask them like in some other places.
Great selection, friendly and helpful staff. Prices are always great and plenty of parking. Only improvement would be to make some of the aisles wider as it’s difficult to get past people in some aisles.
If you need a box just ask they have plenty, if you get ask for ID just take as compliment because youthful, can't complain about price because buying power, some people get angry in a full car park.
On checking out checked the price of bottles I had bought, had been charged more then the quoted price. Had to redo the bill. What if I had not checked wud have ended up paying 70$ extra for my bill.
Always great service at this place and knowledgeable staff about brands and selections. Plus staff arent affraid of saying they are unsure but will gladly sort you with a staff member that will help.
Helping staff.... Wide range of collections. Need some more stock up for German Beers. Oktoberfest ends soon. Haha Also, register for their membership to gain some advantage over the prices offered.
Great selection here and friendly staff. My only complaint is that the prices on the products are often not in the system so you end up running back to take a photo of the price tags on the shelves.
A Dan's is a Dan's, though with the Gabba store I've caught out 3 times in the last month that the price on the special tags isn't what is scanned in at the register. Keep an eye out people's.
Always a wide selection, with all of my favourite drinks readily available. With plenty of staff happy to help you. Parking can be a bit difficult, but nothing which some patience can't fix.
Very spacious, large enough for many customers to be at once and very friendly staff. Range of products is superb, the best in Brisbane! For those who go there, it's a wonderful experience.
Real nice classy Murphy's. Plus yous in the inner inter urban city web so you feel like you're out doing something important and not just necking a slab at home on the couch in your undies.
I was amazed i purchased a ctn of my favourite beer and it was $9.00 cheaper than other bottle shops great value admitted it was on special but great staff and good prices. You've got me.
Love this place.. Very big and nice bottle shop..variety of beers & wines.. I think one thing for me they need to label beers with alcohol content..that will make my choice a lot easier..
Efficient and friendly staff, wide range of stock (except for my favourite scotch J&B. Parking can be an issue on AFL game days so suggest stay away and purchase early or night before.
Best place in Brisbane to get your drinks, huge range, but the staff are what make it a 5 star store (especially Tane, big shout out to this legend who always goes above and beyond).
Wine wine and more wine. Such a great selection to select from. Staff are friendly and I also had a gentleman assist me when I had a big order by helping me get it all into my car.
Great range and good availability. Actually found there prices cheaper than the Dans closer to where I live - I went to this store as my local did not stock a particular spirit.
It's a big Dans with lots of stuff so give yourself some time to look around! Big craft beer section which is good for my tastes plus good deals on wine and interesting spirits.
Great range, reasonable prices. Tasting notes and suggestions in the spirit section are nice. Staff were pretty busy and just around the register area when I was there, though.
As you'd expect, this store has a great selection of products that are well laid out along with great prices. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable which is a bonus as well.
Staaf always ask if you need help but not pushy and are friendly. If you need help, always more than happy to assist. Music is great too, SA playlist is the best so far …
Great place if you want pale ale and a selection of wines and spirits. But if you want a big selection of anything craft beer wise other than pale ales, this isn't your spot.
Dan murphys always have the best prices. I spoke to a very nice lad who helped show me where everything I asked was, and answered all my queries. I would reccomend this place
I have been here a few times and the staff are quite knowledgeable especially with wine. Highly reccomend for those who want to complement their next meal with the right drop
This was my first visit to a Dan murpheys and they had such various alcohols from across the word I could not get through the whole store as I was pooping in very quickly.
Another successfully completed mission to Uncle Dan's. Always has something new for me to try and buy. The low prices plus discounts are a bonus. Christmas gifts sorted.
Well ranged and stocked, store is always neat and tidy. Staff are wonderful always and are well versed on their products, there is always somebody available to help!
Great selection of stock, and the staff are always incredibly friendly. The store is a little cramped with some aisles filled with boxes of product down the centre.
It's a little harder to get to now days. Great range of all things wet. When you are looking for something unusual staff have a great idea of product and location.
Great Place. hold a great drinks Tasting Fridays. the staff member that changes to a T shirt and speaks wine. is First class. nobody k now he works for Dan......
Great prices. Friendly staff. Parking can get a bit crazy and make sure to check the list of member specials, as they occasionally aren't displayed obviously.
Very nice big store, an absolutely huge range of everything alcoholic. They should produce a Dan Murphys beer and call it Furphy's, I bet it would take off!!
Excellent customer service and selection of craft beers and whisky. Pick up is always pretty straight forward and easy for the occasions I've ordered online.
We all know Dan Murphys great products and I found the staff extremely polite and helpful. Love the taste station a great way to sample some new products.
Big store. If you don't know how to choose a wine like me, then you can always view their recommendations online. They do recommend inexpensive wines too.
Staffs are warm-hearted and sweet, perfect recommendations for picking wine as gift for my friend, and there are lots choices for wine lovers, love it <3
Huge selection! It's super busy but loved the parking and traffic coordinators during those really busy times, saved a lot of time and made parking easy!
Good Dan Murphy's although their driveway is terrible! Pity help any vehicle that isn't a 4WD. It is like a sudden drop when you are exiting the drive.
Don't need to go anywhere else for alcohol. Always lots of deals and discounts. Largest range and variety. Staff also know their stuff which is great
always friendly, always great service, fast good quality meals at very reasonable pricing. Great place to visit, great atmosphere, highly recommended
The old lady that served me didn't have a smile a bit grumpy if doing customer service u need to smile and be happy wont be going to that store again
Very large uncle Dan's huge range of every liquor wine and beer some of never even seen before staff had great knowledge good parking behind store.
Huge store with great range and layout. Car park somehow always seems busy but made up for with such an easy location. They also sell bags of ice.
Great range, staff are friendly and knowledgeable. The carpark is tricky to enter and exit and is very crammed but that is the only draw back.
Absolutely great we are down on holidays from the NT where the same casks of wine which are selling for $35 up there are $12.99 in Brisbane?
All Dan Murphy's are much the same. Well laid out with good selection of booze. Depending on time of day car park here can be a bit insane
One Dan Murphy's is much like another. However, the carpark of this one is conveniently accessible from both Wellington & Stanley Streets.
Fairly full range of products, given that the store itself is on the smaller side. Always quick service. Parking can be a bit of a hassle
Very very expensive. Large assortment of product as there should be but at the cost they charge, find a first choice or somewhere else.
