Iconic and Accessible Gem in KL Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Merdeka Square is undeniably one of the most iconic places to visit in Kuala Lumpur, and I wholeheartedly give it a perfect 5/5 rating. This historical site deserves immense praise for its accessibility, embodying Malaysia's rich heritage and multicultural spirit. It stands tall as a symbol of inclusivity, welcoming people of all races and backgrounds. Additionally, it serves as the starting point for numerous marathons, adding to its significance. The wide and spacious square is perfect for gatherings and picnics, making it a favorite spot for both locals and tourists. Its accessibility by train further enhances its appeal, making it easily reachable for everyone. In summary, Merdeka Square is a remarkable and iconic destination that beautifully represents the essence of Malaysia, earning it a well-deserved 5/5 rating.

The place also known as Independence Square hold great significance to the Malaysian people and is related to their Independence as evident by the name. The area has one among the world's tallest flag poll along with the state flags of Malaysia. The stretch also has many Victorian era buildings which showcases their architectural style. There's a cricket stadium used by British officers back in the days. Lot of tourists throng here. We visited in the morning and was quite sunny as well. There's ample space for walking along the footpath. There's a fountain also present near the cricket ground

Merdeka Square in Malaysia is a prominent tourist destination that offers a rich glimpse of the country's history and culture. The square is adorned with significant landmarks, making it an ideal spot for sightseeing. However, the scorching sun can be a drawback, especially during the daytime, as there's limited shade. It's advisable to visit during the cooler parts of the day to fully enjoy the experience. Despite the sun, the square's historical importance, architecture, and nearby attractions make it a must-visit for those interested in Malaysia's heritage, even if it requires a bit of sun protection.

We went there on a very less crowded Sunday afternoon and it was a good experience. The heritage buildings create a picture perfect backdrop and since it was the week of National day, there were huge flags all over which made even more grand. It's a place to visit when you have additional time on hands after all the essential sight seeing is done in KL. Nevertheless a very interesting and historically important site to visit. Don't forget to take ride on an electric beam scooter on the open road, it's fun and heaven for reel creators :D

Merdeka square, one of the must visit historic & pleasant places in KL, I just visit in the evening. A nice spot to hangout with family at night on weekends in kl. It is an open area surrounded by many beautiful buildings. walking distance to the KL River of life. you can relax near the fountain. On weekends, the road in front of dataran merdeka is closed, so people especially kids, can enjoy riding bicycles and scooters safely. In the evening it is also very beautiful with city lights and panoramic views.

" Merdeka square " Absolutely beautiful location to visit and learn about the formation of Malaysia. I enjoyed being here in the evening. During the night with the attractive light on the building and around there. It's really worth visiting here. Can take a walk, jog and biking here too.. Must visit as a traveller. I have seen a lot of locals come here to enjoy the evenings, during which they block the traffic on this road so that people can enjoy their time with their families.

It’s nice to see Merdeka (freedom in Malay) from a historical point of view. The fact that there are 16 sultans in Malaysia instead of one unified king and how the independence was declared by the then prime minister exclaiming ‘merdeka ’ thrice which is also what inspired the shape of the merdeka 118 to look like a finger pointing towards the sky, just as what the prime minister was doing. It’s also super beautiful to see Merdeka square during day time where the deep iron red colour of the domes of these historical buildings glimmer in the sunlight !

A lovely historical place to visit! In our first impressions walk we were pleasantly surprised by the vast open field that has a very interesting history! The area was being prepared for the Independence Day for the end of the month. There is plenty to see and do in the area.. we share more information in our YouTube video First Impressions of Kuala Lumpur if you’d like to see/know more! It is hot! So bring water!

Merdeka square is where the city's with most famous historical buildings left a deep impression on me. With the architecture that was really breathtaking and giving us with a great feeling about the traditional side of the city. And make us feel peaceful at the same time. One of the best spots for taking pictures with a beautiful view of buildings and atmosphere during day and night. Plus during night with the attractive light on the building and around there. Really worth to visit here. Can take a walk, jog and biking here too.

Beautiful area of the city with many historical buildings, an easy walk from China town, River of Life, and right by the KLCG - the KL City Gallery amongst other sites...Was there on Merdeka - so it was very lively late into the night...as late as 11pm, families with young kids were out blowing bubbles, scootering up and down the streets, having henna and enjoying themselves.

An amazing rooftop experience with spectacular views of the city. No windows or pillars to interrupt your view and wonderful winds blowing through the skyscrapers The food is good and the cocktails are amazing. Whilst going at sunset is extra special, even being there after the sun is gone down is fantastic.

Looking at the structure and it's architectural designs, it does bring you back to the historical moment of the Independence Day. However lack of maintenance and being unoccupied makes the building lost its glory and prestige. Something needs to be done to preserve its honour, pride and historical values.

It is a historical landmark of our country. For those who do not know why, kindly revise your history so you could get a pass mark for your SPM. A lot of events were handled here and it would be thronged by a lot of spectators. Parking is a mess here, the smart to get here is by using public transportation. Nice fireworks display on 31 August, 2023.

It's a captivating square that holds immense historical significance. It is the site where Malaysia's independence was declared, marked by the first Malayan flag-raising. This beautiful square serves as a reminder of the events that shaped Malaysia into what it is today.
