I had the most incredible experience at the Delta Park 5km Parkrun, and I can't wait to share my enthusiasm with everyone! As the first Parkrun I ever supported, I drove all the way from Alberton for years, and let me tell you, it was worth every kilometer. The Delta Park 5km Parkrun is a race that perfectly blends challenge and natural beauty. The course takes you on a journey through a stunning landscape of towering trees, and you'll find yourself crossing quaint little bridges that add to the charm of the run. One thing that sets this event apart is the fantastic team of volunteers who make it all possible. I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to them because, without their dedication, there would be no event at all. It's a true testament to the power of community and the love for running. A huge shoutout goes to Discovery Vitality for sponsoring Parkruns like this across the country. Their support ensures that these wonderful events remain accessible and free for all, and for Bruce Fordyce and his family for starting Parkrun in South Africa. Now, let's talk about the route. The 5km course offers a variety of terrains to keep things interesting. It starts fast and flat, giving you a chance to find your rhythm. Then, you'll experience an exhilarating downhill sprint, followed by a challenging climb that takes you to the halfway point. But don't worry, it flattens out towards the end, allowing you to finish strong with a sprint. On average, you'll find around 780 runners at the Delta Park 5km Parkrun, creating a vibrant and energetic atmosphere. The event takes place every Saturday at 8am, so it's the perfect way to kick off your weekend. In summary, the Delta Park 5km Parkrun is a hidden gem for running enthusiasts. The combination of natural beauty, a welcoming community of runners, and the support of volunteers and sponsors make it a must visit event. Whether you're a seasoned runner or just starting your journey, this Parkrun has something special to offer. Plus, the fact that it's free to enter is the icing on the cake. Don't miss the chance to experience this fantastic event for yourself! Kind regards, Shaun.

I love this park. It is massive! Perfect for hiking, nature walks, running, and cycling. Picnic spots are available in beautiful and semi private places. Play areas available to kids and plenty open spaces for dogs, kites, Frisby, and other open space games and activities. Once a month there is a market with plenty to eat, live music, crafts and collectibles. Great place for photography and birdwatching. It is a great community get-together, and I believe they also do Saturday parkrun.
Playground
The playground jungle gym is impressive, well maintained, Brite colorful, and has lots of fun. It makes you want to be a child again
Restrooms
Restrooms available, it is clean, but similar to all or most parks I would recommend you take your own toilet paper.
Dog-friendliness
Perfect for dogs, and there are many dogs in various sections of the park. Some doggy parents are confident enough to even let the dogs off the leash for a quick free run or fetch. There is so much open space. This is perfect for larger breeds.
Picnic area
There are many sections in the park that are perfect for picnics. Some benches and tables also available.

Lovely place to go for a walk. Neat and clean. A lot of other people walking their dogs, cyclist and even a few riding their horses. Most of our fellow walkers are friendly and considered. Be careful not to walk in the cycling path for they go very fast. My only issue is that some of the dogs are not on leash and attacks other dogs and the horses. Overall it is a lovely place. The little coffee shop is cute and very busy. Food & drinks are nice. Car guards in parking areas. There are security patrols with dogs doing rounds. Always be aware of your surroundings for some robberies did occure. Be safe and walk in groups.
Playground
Clean and safe. Equipment in good condition. Parents to look after their kids for safety reasons.
Restrooms
Clean with necessary toiletpaper, but sometimes it runs out. Be prepared and bring your own.
Dog-friendliness
Very dog friendly. A lot of space to walk your dog. I see that they are very excited and enjoy the park, dam and river a lot. Be aware of dogs not on a leach - some attack other dogs.
Picnic area
Clean & safe. No braai facilities though. Bring own picnic stuff.

Popular indeed ! Now we know why. Its very well organised, with an army of volunteers, an enthusiastic photographer who offers his time to catch the special 50 or 100 run moment. The Run Director is speaks clearly and is on time. He gave those doing their 50 and 100s a special front of run start. The course is varied with views of parkland, grassland, and in the far distance the City and Sandton. There’s a good uphill to the pine trees with colourful cosmos this time of year. Then it meanders downhill past a dam then crosses a bridge, and once through an open section, you pass an avenue of trees with no leaves which have an unusual beauty. Then past another open section and you can see the palms at the end. Only one section has some mud but there is a pathway of planks laid out to keep you dry. The run attracts a large number of park runners, particularly in the summer months; I am told up to 2000. On our day (Event #349) 1069 runners took part. Parking was very well organised. We’ll be back for sure.

This is a beautiful nature haven right in between the hustle and bustle of suburban Randburg. You will never say you are in the middle of a large city. Plenty of space to walk your dog (off leash, as long as it's sociable and well behaved). Some cyclists around on cycle paths (partly shared with pedestrians). The park is large (a few city blocks) and very well maintained by a passionate and active volunteer group. Lots of lovely old trees and wide open spaces.
Playground
There is a playground for kids.
Dog-friendliness
Off-leash as long as your dog is sociable and well behaved.
Picnic area
There are plenty of shaded picnic spots, though the ground remains damp due to frequent rains.

  • Nomangezi Kuili

This park is great, very well kept, the jungle gyms for kids are well maintained and safe for all kids ages. The playgrounds are huge and realy just a lovely place to go with family and have a picnic, the parking is safe with some guards, and there are hiking trails and bicycle trails and safety signs up...my husband and I enjoy the park runs in the morning and enjoy taking our children for playtime in the afternoons
Playground
Big and fun for the kids
Restrooms
Clean and well kept, might be a bit far for the young ones though
Picnic area
Lovely big trees for shade.

  • Laurice Barnes

Fantastic Park! Huge trees, beautiful dams, loads of green, natural space, and fairly well maintained. Lots of Cosmos Flowering all over during March/April. Great for hiking, biking, walking, walking dogs, picnicking and there is a huge playground for babies and bigger kids. As a lady going there by myself, I find it to be very safe during the day for me and my baby. Loads of athletes and walkers and doggies around a lot of the time. Lots of parking at the Standard Drive entrance. There are car guards most of the day, but not too safe. Plenty of safer parking on the Victory Park side.

  • Eva Kirsch

Like stepping into a meadow in your own backyard! Moving to the 'Parks' came with so many perks, and this is most certainly one of them! Cosmos flowers dotted in perferctly imperfect rows all over and doggies running about. A feeling of neighbourlyness abounds! There is a wonderful café and restaurant and nursery right next door. Could not possibly be a better place for a date, spontaneous amble or a means to an end for restless kiddies. They even have horses!!

  • Nikki Moutsatsos

A great place to socialize your dogs. The park seems very popular for off the leash walking and cycling. The park is vast and pretty. Free entrance leads to some dodgy characters visiting the park so for you own safety I would suggest you don't visit this one alone. A beautiful waterfall provides a great photo opportunity. The park also boasts with a lovely, shady kiddies play area, a nursery and a dog friendly restaurant.

  • Annie Chu

It is a lovely park with good jungle jim area for kids. There's different sizes of obstacles for different ages. There's a secured car park inside the area. There's a area where they do outdoor theater but I haven't seen it due to Covid. I'm also only giving a 4-star because I haven't walk the entire park and there is no visible walking path like the other park I know so I feel very insecure to venture on my own and child.

  • Jessica du Toit

Finally got to see the beautiful Cosmos at Delta park. It’s the season they are out in full bloom. You can have an amazing long walk. We were on the one side of the park so we didn’t get to see everything. There are bike trails with jumps, just keep a look out as they coming around fast. Some dogs are not on the leash. It was our first time there so was was a great Easter Sunday walking our dog who was on a leash.

  • Ntokozo Elizabeth Abigail Dladla

The lovely green landscapes, trails, and thoughtful children friendly facilities offer a delightful experience for dog enthusiasts, cyclists, and those seeking a tranquil hiking trail. A standout feature was the nearby Delta Cafe,a charming haven that perfectly complements the park's beauty. I wholeheartedly suggest this idyllic spot for anyone in search of a relaxing escape in nature.

  • MJ Scholtz

Lovely park that is perfect for any activity. A great park for dogs to escape the boredom of yards with lots of space to explore. Fantastic spot for family outings and picnics. It's the perfect space for those looking for some exercise in nature. It's also a gorgeous setting for photography. The mulberries in spring are delicious and the Kosmos in summer are gorgeous to walk through.

  • Seanan Wai

Our northern suburb parks are generally well maintained with light security, play grounds for small children and acres to explore with your furry friends. Parking is plentiful and the trails for walking or running are functional, even with the recent heavy rains. One of my favourite Parkruns for sure. If you're a keen trail cyclist then there are seperate bike trails as well.

  • Gabbie

We went to Deltapark on 13th April to enjoy the Kosmos flowers. They were still in bloom and gorgeous although I would have liked to go perhaps a few days earlier to see them at their peak! Very friendly, clean and safe park. Plenty of dog walkers and cyclists (designated cycle paths.) Perfect location for a picnic or walk. There is also a kids play area.

  • Louis Venter

Delta park is the perfect spot to take your family ( the two and four legged ones) for a walk. The park is quite big and there is a kids section with jungle gyms and toilet facilities. Its safe to walk, run or go for a bicycle ride through this awesome park... Fishing is not allowed but its very relaxing watching the barbel at the top dam.

  • Tony Vedda

Wonderful for walking your dogs. Great for cycling and jogging. They also have well marked trails. They have car guards which makes it a pleasure to walk without worrying. In dome parts they have created a forest like environment and it is so peaceful. You don't even feel you are in the middle of a city. JHB's version of NY"s central park.

  • Ian Hendry (Iano)

Delta Park is a real Jen in the heart of Johannesburg. It’s a lovely open space where you can walk, run or cycle and enjoy the openness. The views of Sandton from the top side of the park are spectacular, especially in the early morning when the sun rises. In April, the cosmos field on the north east corner are well worth a visit.

  • Kimon Christodoulou

Good spot for Park Runs on Saturday mornings. Join the hundreds of runners who participate in the 5km fun run every Saturday. It’s not a race, just finish the course and get a friendly high five and encouragement at various points along the route. Pets are welcome too! It’s a great day out in a pretty environment.

  • carlo van der merwe

Awesome park for a picnic or good walk or hike, there is also a few adventuresous bike trails.
Dog-friendliness
Can take your dogs for walks here, many people do walk late afternoons. No idea about the leash policy, have seen with and with out leashes, those without leashes seem trained and friendly usealy

  • Meggan Ford

Well maintained and safe park where you can take the whole family and your dog for a walk to escape the hustle and bustle. There are shaded benches and tables to eat at and a play area for kids to enjoy. If you are lucky you might see the resident owl family chilling in the tree tops!

  • ZAKHELE NXUMALO

Big park, there is a nice bicycle track on the far north, nice streams for the kids viewing amazing small jungle gym park for the toddlers up to 9 years old, neat and not noisy at all. Need to spend a day in nature?? this is the place to relax for a nice family outing in the outdoors.

  • Riaan Barnard

Delta Park is a massive park in the middle of Johannesburg. It has walking trails and is a great place to bring your dogs for a walk or have a picnic surrounded by nature in the middle of the city. As I mentioned the park is huge and you can easily walk around for two or three hours.

  • Candace Main

Have been going to this park for the last couple years. It is a great park with a lovely view of the city and well kept gardens. Our dogs love swimming in the dams and rivers. It is so tranquil and an enjoyable experience. There are plenty of trees and benches to sit under.

Yoh Deltapark it's the park never seen before people like to work at morning and after noon with their some are ‍♂️. Bicycle rides on their own path over there you can see a beautiful building in Sandon and Rosebank lake are passing through the park …

  • Andrew Edgar

Such a great place to take a family with small kids. Just a pity they've allowed vagrants to occupy the nearby trees. The smell of feases is such a deterrent! Hope this can be resolved. Would be a real shame to see another beautiful public space go to ruin.

  • Phumulani Mazwabo

Delta Park is one of the most beautiful parks in Johannesburg it's so vast with more than 100 hectares of grassland and woodland. The park has features from jungle gyms, walking and cycling trails and also a Bird Sanctuary and a couple of streams within.

I walk dogs and cycle through Delta a few times a week. It is a well kept parkland, well used in the early morning and late afternoon. Security doesn't seem to be a problem at the moment but always try and keep other people in sight.

  • Original Basics

Great park for the people's and the doggies. Super spacious with lots of sitting Benches and places for a perfect picknick. I definitely recommend going there to take the day off or for just a sit down at the park. Closes around 6pm
