Enjoyed a delicious breakfast at Dolce Bakery. Their meals are oh so scrumptious. The menu caters for an extensive variety and various options are Vegan too, just enquire at the counter. Their dessert and cake treats are super tasty, look divine and are extremely well priced. They have options to buy whole cakes on pre-order too. I mean, a delicious whole cheesecake from R450! A perfect pickup and go treat for a special occasion. Oh, and if it's your birthday on the day, just show your ID and you get to choose a treat on the house. The staff are very helpful and friendly. They have daily specials that are absolutely worth it, a fresh cuppa hot coffee + a cream cheese and cashew bagel for R50, no jokes. Their smoothies are fresh and tasty too....and I've saved the absolute best for last, they are halaal certified! Boom! Game changer! Will definitely be back.
A treasure chest, filled with every wonderful treat worthy of a cheat day. Yummy, tasty, fresh , wholesome, halaal, also vegan goodies, great foodie gifts. As we sat down early after 830 am on a Saturday morning, we watched as trays of showstopper goodness was packed on display, it wouldn't last long as the place was starting to get really busy. They do takeaways, Uber Eats as well. Take card payments also. The croissants look ready to go on the catwalk. Croissants with bling. Love it. Had a salmon bagel, taste explosion. Chai with almond milk upsize is a must. Star of the show was a cupcake styled peach tea croissant, it had a surprise inside. Yum yum yum. We will be back most Definately. Job well done because the service rocks. Awesome experience not to be missed.
I am writing this review while in the bakery here in salt river right now. I came to the bakery as per usual and croissants, muffins and bagels. I sat on the couch next to the Fridge and when I politely asked the lady if I could please have a glass of water she said "hayi msunu" . Now I know what this means when translated and I find it extremely disrespectful to be swored at for just asking for water. I did not say anything because it's not in me to make a scene.I will never be going to the bakery again and I will not recommend any person to go to this branch in salt river. Rather go to Claremont or waterfront. I go here everyday for crossants however I will be sure to never set foot here.
Dolce is one of my favourite coffee shops to go to and since my workplace is just around the corner it's our go to for any little special occasion amongst my colleagues and I, however, I was there 2 days ago, I wanted to treat my husband as I'm always raving about the good food. He's 1st time was my worst time at Dolce. The bagels were old and stale as if they were warmed in the microwave before they served it to us. Initially we wanted sour dough bread but strangely enough they told us that there was no bread and this was between 11 am and 12 midday, very odd as they always have fresh bakes. The food was not too our standard and my husband was very disappointed.
We stopped for a takeaway coffee and a sweet treat, but was shown away (they close at 2pm and we were there before ten to two). We knew the kitchen would be closed, therefore we stopped just for a takeaway coffee and some of their baked goods, but were told their coffee machines are already off so they can't help us. Generally, if your trading hours are until 2pm, you're supposed to be helping/serving clients until 2pm. Kitchen closure one can understand, but not being willing to make takeaway coffees, that's very unfortunate. A pity, when most coffee places would be willing to still serve a cup of coffee.
Ordered the vegan chocolate mouse cake... Wow. It's super delicious, moist and fluffy. Everyone was impressed with the cake. The staff are also very friendly and helpful. I'll definitely be ordering again. Edit 4 years later. I’ve since been back twice to order the cake. Both times, the staff were wholly unprepared and the cakes weren’t ready, despite me calling to confirm my pick up the day before. I had to wait over 30 minutes both times. Neither time did they offer any adequate assistance or advice. Despite the cakes being good, the service was so bad I won’t go back.
Very poor service, I ordered a chicken pesto wrap and after about 45 minutes I never received it (granted the place was busy so I expected to wait this long) when enquired about it I got the response that there is no chicken. Imagine if I never enquired, I'd never know This branch also never has any sourdough or rye bread, how is this even possible for a breakfast type joint After new management has taken over this branch, the service and comms has gone down the drain, it's sad seeing this after being a customer here for years
On uber eats they have bagel called The Fam and it’s labelled as vegetarian, it has macon in the description but to my knowledge macon can be either soy or beef. Considering they labelled it as vegetarian, one would assume it would be the soy option. But no it’s a beef option. Vegetarian labels are frequent on the menu in correlation with the macon description. Which is in fact incorrect. Maybe change your uber eats to say that macon options are not vegetarian. Just a thought. Quite a disappointing discovery.
One of the best pizzas I have ever had in Cape Town! And the best part: it doesn’t have that hectic tomato base! The bagels are a clean 10/10. Got the vegan pizza and WOW it was good! It was such a tribute to pizza in general. I mean? Is it a joke? How can it be THIS good? Whoever came up with this clearly has a great taste palate. This place is great basically. Love the service and outstanding food. Will ALWAYS go back. Pizza without a tomato base? GENIUS! Can’t believe how good it was. BRILLIANT!
Food was good with a variety of options to choose from. The roast beef bagel is actually cold meat, service wasn't great, as a new patron I had no idea what the process was to sit in and had to ask for assistance, found the menus by myself. Order was taken to incorrect people. Payment needs to be made at the cash register and this could lead to losses for the business as the cashier was not even aware of my order and I had to remind them. Worth a second visit? Maybe....
Lured to Dolce by some sneaky social media advertising, I decided to pop in to get some tasty treats for a later hike. The store has a lovely feel and very unassuming. Although I stood a little while to be assisted, once I was the member of staff was very friendly. Croissants are good, not the best, but great value and the bagels are among the best out there! My small two cents would be to put the price under the bakery items or a board with prices.
Highly recommend this cute cafe. Amazing food. Great service. Only thing I need to mention is the wonky cutlery. Both myself and husband were unable to cut through the food. The cutlery was literally bending. We asked for a new set of cutlery but this didn't make a difference, so we just ate with our hands which was perfectly fine too. But I would strongly suggest upgrading the cutlery. Will be back again for the great bagels!
Exactly a year ago, this place was a completely different experience. The service was exceptional and the food as well. Today I am disappointed to say the least. The experience was terrible with the stuff talking so loudly and fighting over tips right infront of us as we tried to eat in peace. Terrible! The stuff literally ate infront us. Also is the stuff new? What a disappointment seeing that the place has so much potential.
Finally a bakery that is deserving of being called a bakery....having just relocated to CT and having Dolce literally on our doorstep and I mean as in a few steps, we are truly fortunate. The service is great and the cakes just divine....Tried the carrot cake slice today and wow that has to be the best moistest carrot cake ive had to date. The Bar One cake another one of my favorites.....and and and......
Honestly, my favorite place to grab a coffee in Obs. What makes Dolcé great? Good coffee/ milkshakes/ smoothies, awesome bagels and pastries, VEGAN OPTIONS, and the friendliest service all at affordable prices. There isn’t that much seating, but it’s amazing for when you need a quick pick-me-up. Another bonus? CHEESECAKE (not just the baked kind, but their resident cat).
Unfortunately not what it used to be. Seems like been a change in ownership/management. The staff has definitely changed, used to get greeted with a smile, now you struggle to get acknowledged. Used to get great service when sitting down, now instead of croissant being warmed and brought on a plate with a knife and fork, was given a plate and told to get it myself.
Absolutely love this small haven. The service is great and an interesting selection of food choices. I ordered the steak bagels and vanilla shake, both items which I found to be most delightful and would definitely return to visit. Sad in my heart that I don't live nearby to keep returning, but will definitely do so whenever I have the time and in the area
Our experience is that we phone in orders, and they seldom have chicken pesto bagels or wraps. We had to take alternatives for our office order, and this has happened on at least 3 occasions. We are just disappointed..why is a basic offering not available? Otherwise, we enjoy the freshness of their food and would order more often. Shirley Wilmot
A morning anywhere near Obs is incomplete without a pop-in at Dolce for their Coffee & Muffin special. Extremely tasty sweets (both the Bran and the Banana/Caramel Chip muffins are incredible, and the decadent brownies will change your view of the world), great coffee and a beautiful outside area make this a regular must-stop.
We ordered a custom cake from the bakery for my Grandpa’s 90th birthday. It was both gluten free and sugar free, and it was absolutely delicious! Thank you so much Dolce Bakery!! It made his day we also sat in and had a coffee when we ordered it and it was a lovely setting with all the plants and in the shade. …
By far the best - in service, food and ambience. A must-visit place for every student and tourist alike. I've been frequenting Dolce for over a year, and I've received nothing but the best. The prices are fair, the staff are the friendliest and it's a really nice place to chill and study. Milk tart is to die for …
Best bakery in Cape Town, hands down! Great staff, friendly service, delicious food and pastries. Dolce is always a solid choice when I'm on the run and need a quick breakfast during the week and their breakfast special is a solid choice. You can't go wrong with their bagels either. Hats off to Russell and the crew!
Absolute perfection. Great service, friendly staff and delicious products. The only fault would be that I can't eat everything all day every day. Very hard finding a halaal place with these products for the price. Not the cheapest but really affordable. Definitely my new regular bakery. Couldn't be more impressed.
Incredible bakery! Best bagels in Cape Town and tons of vegan options. They have some local goods being sold too and the wifi is fast and free. My only complaint is that they close to early for me to be able to visit them for a treat after work. The staff is kind and the food is amazing! Definitely check it out.
Annoyed, I was told I cannot place and order yet due to loadshedding. I was happy to wait the 10 mins until loadshedding ended and to place my order. Loadshedding had ended and instead of taking my order they took everyone else's order who just stepped in. I eventually just left and went somewhere else
I visit Dolce Bakery for the first time which was my wife birthday. I really had a nice time and my wife enjoyed herself. The bagels was super delicious and the cappuccino was excellent. Their cake was also mouth watering. The atmosphere was cool and relaxing.
What a superb little bakery/cafe! The vegan pizza menu was outstanding, the best pizza I have ever had. And their vegan cakes and desserts were absolutely delicious. Thank you for restoring my faith in Cape Town vegan food! Will definitely be returning soon.
Just ordered from Bolt Food. Totally wrong order. We cant eat it. We ordered from the vegan menu and you gave us dairy which we're allergic to. Total waste of time, food and money, and a Sat morning treat ruined. AND THEN they don't answer the phone.
Not only does Dolce have the friendliest staff and owner, their coffee and food is quality - tasty and nutritious. I had the vegan caprese bagel and coffee special (for R45) with R5 extra for plant based milk. It was so filling and amazing. The best!
Excellent bakery that I have used for many years and they have never failed to deliver. However, recently I’ve struggled with their sales/ customer service which I do hope improves drastically to make the experience of ordering a cake more seamless.
Light and fluffy pastries. Cakes packed with flavor and quality ingredients. Pride has been taken in each creation that comes out of the bakery. Fresh bagels made daily. Specials between 07:30-12 am are great value for money. This is a gem.
You NEED to go eat at Dolce s! For a guy like me from a small city in JHB to find a vegan eatery like this is a blessing from the earth gods themselves. Super awesome service, great food and cool coffee and cakes. Get a new life, go Dolce!
I've spent 8 years baking all my own goodies because I've never found a place in Cape Town that made decent vegan goods (if at all!!). Well, I am forever changed since finding Dolce Bakery. Their vegan baked goods are DELICIOUS and boy do
Absolutely love Dolce Bakery, so many amazing vegan options. My regular order is their vegan caprese bagel, and if it’s your first time trying it: order two, you’re not going to be able to get enough of them. Thank you to the Dolce Team!
Beautiful use of interior. Decor and ambience is right on par with the trendy lower Observatory/ Obs vibe. Staff are nice, bagels are equally nice. Good selection of fillings. They have a R50 coffee and selected bagel on offer everyday.
I went there first time today as it was highly recommended by vegan society. It took more than one hour for drinks to arrive and then pizza followed. People came after me all ate and left. Staff were friendly but vegan pizza has little
I looooove this place. I like the vegan options. the carrot cake is to die for. The gluten free base option for the pizzas is amazing. Yho! Definitely one of my favourite places in Cape Town. I don't care much for the milkshakes, their
Being an avid foodie, I have visited many bakeries in Cape Town. Some claim to be great, however they food does not live up to it. But this place is a true hidden gem. Their bagels are the best in Cape Town!! And their vegan cakes and
Very cute little coffee shop. Cosy with the best cheesecake I've ever tasted! The food here is simply delicious and the drinks too. My chai latte was spot on. I enjoyed the relaxed vibe. Definitely one of the best coffee shops around
Incredible food for reasonable prices. We had a cheesecake which was superb, and a neighboring table had the eggs florentine which looked awesome, and was reportedly delicious. Great coffee too. Apologies for all the superlatives!
Disappointed in the cakes. I felt like the slither of the caramel cheese cake was very small. The carrot cake did not have cream cheese frosting. Ive read all the great reviews before visiting the bakery and was hoping for more.
I returned to Dolce last week and I had some good coffee BUT my mushroom sandwhich had a hair in it :( I never reported it to your staff on the day because I was with someone and I didn't want to ruin their breakfast experience.
Love this quaint little place. Their steak bagels are to die for!!! They have great all day breakfast and their coffee is nice too. You'll be tempted by all of the desserts and you won't regret them :)
While the staff was friendly and coffee good, there was nothing fresh about their baked goods. Stale brownie tasted gross and days old and croissant was also definitely old. Not worth it at all.
This place has amazing bagels and vegan options on all items on their menu. They also have amazing sweet treats. It's a great place to go for a lunch with friends or for a business meeting.
Sunset beach has no stock My husband went there this morning They have no good there They say it's owned. Y a Zimbabwean and they don't order food To me it's a front for other businesses
Quaint little coffee shop and deli. Lovely chilled atmosphere and seating options. Fresh baked goodies including bangles and sweet cakes. My only complaint - my cappuccino was cold.
Vegan breakfast deluxe! This was by far the best vegan breakfast we've ever had in Cape Town! The location is very nice and I love the little outdoor space! Gonna be back very soon.
It's one of my other favourite coffee ☕️ shops.

Had the pesto chicken bagel was very tasty. The chai latte was flavourful. Also had the croissant with peaches cream very tasty. Friendly staff and wonderful experience.
Good coffee, friendly service! Didn’t try one, but the croissants look really tasty. Can definitely recommend the breakfast - eggs florentine on ciabatta was amazing.
Amazing service! They went out of their way to help me with a vegan cake that I needed for a very tight deadline! I am super happy and will definitely be back
I have ordered the same cheesecake online for the last four years, the price has barely gone up and the quality is exceptional. Definitely a crowd pleaser.
This place has always been one of my favourite spots and especially now that they have moved it's even better than before!! Keep up the great work guys!
Don't get here just after opening staff not interested to see and serve you - poor. Guess a case of don't talk to me till I've had my coffee, ironic
Absolutely amazing. Enjoyed coffee and jumbo muffin. Staff super friendly. Food amaaaaaazing. Great seating area. So pretty and calming
Great place. Excellent menu. Lovely smoothies, and so nice to have gluten free options. A real gem, and will definitely visit again.
They have delicious cakes, and I always opt for them when I need a full cake. They have delicious pies and gluten free brownies too.
Cool week day special. Pastry and coffee R35. Very well worth it. Friendly service and quick. Check it out
The service in the bakery at first was not great and rhe Dirty Chai is not drinkable it is to strong.
Not a carrot cake but rather Christmas cake. Unfriendly service with no knowledge of available cakes
Loved it! Delicious fresh Bagels. A quaint space with a lovely atmosphere. I definitely recommend!
They use margarine in their icing. Baking chocolate in their brownies not good quality chocolate
16 Jan 2017 This is a nice little cafe with lots of Vegan options. We ate 2 pizzas here.
Excellent bagels, excellent smoothies, great prices and super lovely staff! …
