I was surprised with a visit to Dough Girl on the morning of my birthday. I have seen the reviews. I had been meaning to pay Dough Girl a visit for sometime. What an overwhelming and delightful experience. The selection feels endless and adventurous. I had the Brioche with cappuccino. I wanted to try both their sweet and savory selections, plus plus plus everything on the menu!!! I could have, frankly, gone back for a whole second round and possibly even a third if I didnt have a birthday lunch to go to. Coffee was served with a "please may I have another" pastry. The lightest flakiest pastry. The strawberries and slivered almonds on my brioche were probably picked fresh from the garden and popped in because that's how fresh they were. Our waitress Noksi was a gem! She made suggestions, had some quirky fun banter with us and the staff even went so far as to sing for me while they went about their chores. I can write an essay on the place. Attention to detail added to the aesthetics. From the cute plate inlay at the entrance to the personalized chairs and leather flap menus, this is a must on every foodies checklist

Sad to say that I'm disappointed. My 1st visit was on a Saturday at about 11am. I left empty-handed as the shelf was empty and was told that there won't be another batch baked for that day. I accepted this as my fault. My 2nd visit was on a Tuesday at 9am. (I tried to call a few times to place an order as I didn't want a repeat of my 1st experience, I was expecting guests.) No one answered the number that is provided. I was told that there's always strange issues with info that's on Google Maps. I left the bakery with R450 worth of croissants and custard filled doughnuts because one of the regulars ordered the Nutella ones from behind me, and only after asking about the items I've seen on Instagram was I told that those items only get baked on specific days. (This isn't mentioned anywhere on Google maps or on the Dough Girl website) Today I checked the Instagram ads, tried calling a few times to see what's still available... no answer again. I sent a friend over because I've got the flu... he's come back with regular doughnuts from another bakery because that's where he actually got served. I would like to give a star for each visit, but unfortunately I can't.

No offense to people who leave negative reviews because of low/no stock. This is not your average style mass produced bakery. I know it’s hard for most to understand how this works but the products offered at this bakery take a long time (days) to produce! We have been there numerous times at 10, sometimes after 12 and have walked away with nothing in hand. It’s not a problem because I understand that if I’m late, items will sell out ‍♀️ It’s a bit crazy that this needs to be explained but then it has to be explained to people who don’t understand why the bakery does not mass produce like other bakeries. Whew so as for the products, we have not been disappointed with any goodies purchased. All are exceptional and croissant quality is excellent. Flavour, structure and taste. Oh my gosh, nothing quite like it and in a class of its own Thank you for bringing quality baked goods to Durban

Complete contrast to the original store which I loved. Old store : Friendly staff , amazing pastries . From a variety of croissants to cruffins, brownies and more ! After changing venues , the service has really deteriorated. I've tried to go here SIX times. Only to be told they're closing soon or there aren't any pastries left , even though the website says closing time is 2hrs later. You walk in invisible, no one acknowledges you, you just gotta grab a menu and go find yourself a seat. When you go to the counter to ask about the pastries, everyone tends to avoid eye contact. Really disappointing and won't be returning.

Who knew that Durban would get it's very on pâtissière bakery! And WOW, what a bakery! The staples, like croussants, and pastéis de nata are amazing. Then, on the weekends, the whoppers, like the Courtssants come out to play! Oh my hecking goodness! Every weekend has a new flavour, and NONE have disappointed!! Deep fried, baked goodness with incredible toppings and fillings. It is an experience that is difficult to put into words! You have GOT TO get there early, and expect to queue! But, the vibe it gooood! BE WARNED...you will not be able to leave with just one item!

My wife and I had an absolutely awesome experience at Dough Girl. We got there late so most of the baked goodies were finished. We were warmly greeted and immediately felt at ease. The best part about this spot is it is pet friendly. My puppy Astro had a blast and even made friends with “Dough Girl” herself. I wish I took a picture of the burger I had. It was absolutely delicious. A tasty Durban flavored party sandwiched between freshly baked brioche buns. Superb. I am definitely going back there. Keep up the good work and see you soon @Dough Girl.

Needs a much better queuing system, takes too long to get an order done and people from behind are allowed to order over you and get the last treat's, to then be told to come back in 90 minutes for more, if we want. Coffee and treats were ok. They were not collecting, they arrived after us, screamed what they wanted and pointed to what they wanted in the display window and it was packaged. Even if they were collecting front staff should've let the individual wait their turn in the queue. Perhaps will try again if we observe a better flow.

We tried the baking which was amazing. Just a word of caution, the place is not owned by a Muslim, however they are certified by MWM. Excellent baking and very friendly waiter.

Always loved these guys and maintain they have some of the best pastries in SA. Unfortunately, today I was left with on of the poorest customer experiences. I wait patiently in line and just as it’s my turn to order, one of their regulars comes in and scopes up the last four items of what I was wanting to take. The sad thing is I raise this and the lady continues to serve the regular customer and says I should wait for the next batch.

  • Mr So&So

Loved it. Awesome vibes in an awesome area. The nachos were fine, but it's understandable because the real show stopper is everything that is dough (baked). Trust me, anything baked that you order will leave you wanting more. The bonus are the fizzy drinks they make and the souvenir condiments for sale inside the shop. Make sure you know the load shedding schedule in the area if you are going with kids that love milkshake.

  • Niren Srikissoon

Got there on a Saturday morning just around 9:30 whilst they were experiencing load shedding - I wouldn’t recommend going there during load shedding as not much is available. The service from the initial waitress was terribly slow. When we had a waitress change, it was chalk and cheese. Great variety of baked goods. Coffee isn’t great. Would I go back - probably not.

  • Malcolm Reeves

Coffee, bakery and service excellent, marred by noisy traffic intersection when sitting outside. Quieter location would make this a perfect spot. Back after a break and if anything the noise is worse. Also continual foot traffic in and out of the den next door not pleasant. It's a pity as I really enjoy the people there and the high quality of the baking and coffee.

  • Durban Reviewer

This "new"bakery is serving some of the best baked goods the people of the 031 have seen (and tasted). Crisp yet delicate croissants, fudgy brownies and other delicious goodies (including a signature Courtssant on Saturdays) makes this the bakery to be at. Get there early though if you want the best selection and to avoid the queues - they sell out quickly ;)

  • Drikus Oosthuizen

Probably some of the best pastries in Durban. They open early at 7:30 so that gives you time to grab a coffee and croissant before heading off for the day. There are so many choices and almost daily there's a new unique selection. The portions are big and the coffee is really nice. Lovely service as well from the chef and staff. Would absolutely recommend.

  • naheed elias

Not so sure about this place anymore. There isn't a proper system in place for ordering or being served. We went for breakfast but ended up leaving without eating due to the lack of customer service. It's the second time I've been there and this time was worse than the last. Hope you guys manage to sort things out..the place has a lot of potential.

Great bakery, their "pasteis de nata" delicious, coffee is good too. Really popular Halaal eatery, adequate street parking with car guards.

A quaint place with bits of uniqueness here and there... loved it! Their lunch meals are sizeable enough for a one person sitting, though I recommend more chicken or fish options. Most contain macon (beef) which I do not consume. Pastry selection is jaw dropping, dainty and yum! I like that they don't stock cooldrinks A pleasant experience.

  • Shevaun Pistorius

Are you looking to satisfy a sweet tooth craving? Dough Girl has some of the best pastries I have ever had. It's always fresh and so yummy. One of my favorite things is that they are always coming up with new flavor profiles and experimenting with different pasty creations. It keeps it so exciting. They also serve breakfast and lunch.

  • Michael Sand

The Dough Girl brand has moved to a larger venue with ample inside and outdoor seating options. The menu has been expanded to include tasty breakfast and lunch options. Creative additions to the menu make each visit a pleasant experience. The product quality remains consistently high. …

Food and the baking goodies are absolutely incredible however I had to wait quiet abit for service as a seated customer, I honestly ended up going to the counter to place my order myself everytime I needed something, that is disappointing. The atmosphere is great and the place is nice and relaxing.

  • Royal Academy of Dance KZN

Plain croissants sold out at 7:30 a.m. on Saturday. Cheese croissant had very little cheese, chocolate croissant thought odly square shaped was crispy and crunchy. More chocolate required. Very tidy and clean. Young enthusiastic efficient friendly staff. Lovely setting. Emphasis on quality.

  • Farzanah Dawood

Tasty baked goods. Stop by and purchase from the counter but come early or you’ll leave empty handed. Don’t sit here and eat, it’s a difficult experience, limited menu, and no great service from extremely slow and unmotivated waitresses. Counter and till staff were pleasant.

Loved this little spot in Essenwood Rd. The Barista was amazing and you could see that he loved his art of coffee making. My son had a chocolate croissant which matched any Croissant in Paris!! All the other pastries looked so good.

  • Craig Beer

Tried Dough Girl for the first time today. We will be back! Delicious pastries, freshly baked. Get there early as they are busy and the queue is long! Wide range available but the custard filled donuts and brownies are perfect!

  • zohra shaik

They did not have alot of a variety, it was lunch time and the guy said they still busy making things. It does not live up to what you see in Instagram. Prices are good, just wish we had more of a variety to choose from.
