"They have three branches, the best one is the carnegie, but we usually try boxhill one as it is local"
"CASH ONLY, there's no option for paying by credit card, it's very annoying as I didn't have enough cash along, we had to borrow 200$ cash from friend to pay for a group dinner, so please withdraw cash before visiting"
"This place is so authentic that many may not appreciate unless you understand Hong Kong culture"
"Had a groups dinner here"
"Was here for dinner and wanted to sit at a corner table only to be told that the table is meant for 2 people only"
They have three branches, the best one is the carnegie, but we usually try boxhill one as it is local. The last photo is from Carnegie. The soups especially the lotus one is good, the claypot rice is also delicious but i don’t really like the prawn ball yet my daughter likes it, recommended to try this restaurant for claypot
CASH ONLY, there's no option for paying by credit card, it's very annoying as I didn't have enough cash along, we had to borrow 200$ cash from friend to pay for a group dinner, so please withdraw cash before visiting. The menu is ok with Asian noodles and rices, I personally don't see it's special from other places.
This place is so authentic that many may not appreciate unless you understand Hong Kong culture. Traditional double boiled soup and hot claypot crispy rice is exactly how is done the Hong Kong way, similarly the Hong Kong style customer services. More
Had a groups dinner here. Everyone ordered a serving of soup (small) which is what they are famous for. Other food isn’t bad either. Food does take a little while to come out though. The service was good and I think the price is reasonable.
Was here for dinner and wanted to sit at a corner table only to be told that the table is meant for 2 people only. There were 3 of us. The tables are arranged to accommodate any number of customers, be it 2 or 4 per table, and we could sit
Came here at 7pm on a Sunday for dinner with a couple of friends. They have one of the best soups in Melbourne! However, if you’re in a rush I’d say to find another place. The waiters have been deliberately ignoring us trying to order. We
Authentic food, really bad service however... Like BAD bad...! Talking to customer with attitude for no reason, we were really polite and already know what we want before asking the old lady came over, still very impatient even it was not
As a Chinese student currently studying in Melbourne, I often find myself craving for authentic Chinese food (especially claypot). First Taste has indeed satisfied my cravings with their authentic Chinese flavours within their dishes. My
This is a pretty unassuming hole in the wall place, one of the many eateries in Box Hill. However, the herbal soups are always warm and hearty, and have something for everyone. Of all things, the dish that keeps me coming back is the Tom
First Taste is one of the older restaurants to survive in Box Hill, we've been going there for at least 12 years. The same Lao Ban (Boss) running it. It is consistent and efficient. I always order the same thing... La wei bao zi fan (?
2 stars only due to the poor service of staff. The food was nice. The staff that greeted us was not very welcoming and make you feel not welcomed. We chose what we wanted to eat and staff walked by ignoring us waiting to order. When we
Can't fault. The customer service was very good for an Asian restaurant. The blackbean ribs clapot was very good. The only improvement would perhaps be more crusty rice. The ginseng and chicken herbal soup was tasty and would have been
Had the most disgusting meal ever. Revisited this place tonight, one of the dishes has ingredients that clearly went off. Their attitude towards it was unacceptable, didn’t apologise whatsoever. They clearly don’t care about the food
Came here as I was craving for claypot rice. We wanted to order some soups alongside the rice, but 5 out of 6 of the soups that I ordered weren’t available, and the staff wasn’t sure what is available so it was really confusing and
They has kept the interior of the restaurant unchanged for the last 10 years and that reminded me those good old times I spent with my late grandmother. Some of their soups are tasty but I generally avoid anything features lean
The food was great, but the staff couldn't speak a word of English. While answering 'No' to 'Do you speak English?', she just pointed at the bilingual menu! Can't tell if they've changed management. Very disappointing. More
We ordered the soup and two clay pot rice. The soup tasted the same as traditional Cantonese soup, but the rice is more like a simple version of traditional Cantonese claypot rice. Generally, everything tasted great. More
I always like the food, regardless what people say about the service, its a no fuss come in eat and go plc. The prawn claypot is my favorite, and all the brewed soups are amazing and you know theres quality in the soup.
My starving partner ordered the Chinese sausage on hot pot. It's literally white rice sprinkled with thinly sliced sausages. No sauce and nothing else. She came the restaurant hungry and left hungry! :(
Cash Only!!! Cannot believe in this day and age there is still a cash only restaurant!!! The waitress had no guilt or shame telling they are only accepting cash. Ridiculous!
Love the Claypot rice!! good serving size and nice customer service. The waitress are always friendly, been here many times and never get disappointed ⭐️ More
it's pretty good but make sure you order the one with sauce.. there's one only come with rice and sausage, big mistake made by my friend - dry and sad.
First impression: Homey, rustic, not sure if it serves good food. Second impression: Judging from the crowd that day, it looked quite popular
Beef wasnt tender much and a little bit less. Nice chilli sauce and sweet soy sauce. Stewed soup was nice and comforting. Recommend
We were amazed by the no-good food and lack of service and we were given literally a couple of broken containers for leftovers.
Well the soup and rice meal are very tasty. However, the soup called “Buddha Jumps Over the Wall” cost 65 bucks is not worthy
Food was okay, but the service was absolutely HORRIBLE. I felt extremely uncomfortable. Two stars for poor staff service.
The real taste of chines food. The reasonable price with good service. I will definitely come back again and again.
One of the best clay pot rice I have in Melbourne. Love their soup, their chilli sauce are fiercely good too.
The chilli sauce left on the tables are not fresh, and caused me gastro. Oily clay pot rice as well. More
Insta: markandelly_eats First time trying Chinese style Claypot Rice! We ordered a bunch and shared as a
