"This place is a true gem"
I went hiking at Forest Park with a friend on a Sunday, never knew there was this huge park right in Queens. The visitor center, parking lot, carousel, dog run and pond are on one side of the street while the handball court, soccer field and Forest Park Loop (aka hiking trail) are on the other side. Im sure there are other things I missed, it’s a huge park. My friend and I got a tad lost after parking because I thought it’d all be on the same side, we’ll just start walking and eventually end up at the trail. That turned out to be a bad idea. After 15 minutes of aimless walking, I google mapped the location of Forest Park Loop and found it’s located across the street on the other side of the road. Anyways, because of the slight detour, it took us about 30 minutes to reach the trail from the time we parked. If it’s your first time going there, map out the destination first, the park is bigger than you think. The trail itself is very easy, my friend who goes hiking regularly was complaining about the lack of incline. It’s perfect for me as a beginner. The larger trails are pretty solid and covered in gravel while the smaller offshoots are leaf covered soft soil. It’s a very relaxing walk, I saw parents with small children and baby carriages on the main paths, it’s pretty flat in most areas for walking. There were quite a few down trees. I would avoid this park on days with high wind, just not worth the risk of getting hit a falling tree. Also watch out for the horse manure on some of the trails. Other than that, it’s an excellent spot for some oxygen filled air and cardio.
A dad of 2 young kids, and I'm always on the lookout for new and exciting places to take them. I was really impressed when I found this, The playground was clean, well-maintained, and had a lot of shade, which was perfect for a hot summer day. The kids had a blast playing on the playground. There were slides, swings, climbing structures, etc. In addition to being fun for kids, the playground was also a great place for parents to relax and socialize. There were plenty of benches and tables, and the playground was located in a quiet neighborhood next to Forest Park. Highly recommend this playground to any parent looking for a fun and safe place to take their kids. It's a great place to let kids run around and burn off some energy, and it's also a great place for parents to relax and socialize. Would definitely recommend this playground to any parent looking for a fun and safe place to take their kids.
Playground
The playground is well-maintained and clean, with plenty of shade. The playground is located in a quiet neighborhood, making it a safe and peaceful place for kids to play.
I know it doesn't look like much but my friends and I built this over 30 years ago in forest park off the railroad tracks and it still stands to this day. The graffiti has changed but the history still exists. I would tag my friends who helped me build this hang out but most are either dead or in jail. This is located off of 71st and Continental Ave and Union Turnpike behind the "Kiddie Park" which is what we called that park back then as well. Just so everyone knows, this hang out place was originally called "the log" back in the day because it literally was just a log we used to sit on. We then pulled the railroad ties from the tracks all the way up and make an area for us to sit and built the firepit. We also built watch towers in the trees which I saw are no longer there unfortunately. Had some good times up there. Sometimes you have to revisit the past to see how far you've come. ❤ #LastOfTheDyingBreed
Beautiful park that has a lot to offer for tourists, families, or anyone that wants to hang out there. It's great that it has a bandshell, a playground, and multiple courts for playing different sports.
Playground
Since it's a large park, there are several playgrounds. Most are colorful, with sparse equipment such as slides, ladders and monkey bars. All are somewhat old and could use renovation or at least a fresh coat of paint.
Dog-friendliness
I frequently see dogs in Forest Park and there are not many restrictions as to where they are allowed or not allowed to be.
Picnic area
There are multiple picnic areas across the park, but they're not very organized and mostly consist of just picnic tables (that are old and need to be replaced) sparsely placed in a certain area.
This place is a true gem. If you want to go somewhere and forget the fact that you’re surrounded by the city, this is the place to go. There are hundreds of back-woods trails, A huge running/bike path (that perimeters the entire park), and a ton of benches to chill out and take a rest on. The woods are crawling cute little chipmunks. I also take my dog here to run off leash in the woods and I’ve never had any issues. We’ve even gone in the middle of the night several times and it seems pretty safe and everything is well lit. You will see joggers and Cyclists there at all times of the day and night. Great place to go hiking, and even throw a picnic in the woods if that’s your style. I chose my home because of this park and it’s amazing features.
Great early hiking through NW corner at dry harbor playground keep hike along Myrtle across to SE corner at Richmond Hill war memorial then loop back thru park Dr pass forest park pine grove to parklane south pass Carousel golf course on SW corner great awesome hike about four miles peace great facility at tracks and synthetic turf ball field Wood Haven Blvd ,the bandshell was well maintained Update today try hiking bridal trails from 71st Ave / union turnpike keep heading east trail went under JRP then merge with park drive and went again foot hiking trail loop between park Dr and railroad off trail at overpass bridge at Myrtle Ave short break at hydration fountain at Victory fields great hike
Huge park has lots to offer a few different playgrounds throughout the entire park theres bike trails, small hiking trails, hand ball courts , theres basketball, the running track and lots more ...I'm usually there for ither a jog, some biking , or eve. Just a walk ... there's even an old train rail that runs through it personally. I think the city should utilize it somehow ....
Playground
Few different small play grounds
Restrooms
In the main area on Woodhaven Blvd u can find the restrooms ...
Dog-friendliness
I bring my dog here too
Picnic area
I personally had a picnic once ..I enjoyed it
Excellent dirt trails for running, biking, dog walking and just a nice stroll to enjoy the greenery in Forest Hills. It’s a scenic park to get away and take in the fresh air and enjoy what nature has to offer close to home. While I frequent the park for the dirt trails, they also have a track and a blacktop if dirt trails are too gritty for your taste. For runners, the black top from Metropolitan to Woodhaven is about 1.5 Miles while the dirt trails loop inside can be worked out to 3.5 miles. As always, be careful and cautious in the night as the park is known to have some weird characters at night.
Great park to walk or relax in. It's seriously a massive park with lots of trails to choose from and also has great spots for picnics and just spending time with family. There's also a carousel and a lot of vendors selling italian ice and frozen treats around the park. I imagine that the trees would look beautiful in the fall or after a it snows in the winter too. Forest Park is like the Central Park of Queens. Would definitely recommend coming here. It's close to public transportation too.
Started coming here more often in the last few months, because I have more free time and got tired of Flushing Meadow Park. This is the best place to go on a hike in NY as if you were in the wilderness without actually being there. I do wish there were lots more road map signs so I don't get lost. As well as more benches throughout the park, because it's hard to work so far without a good place to sit sometimes.
It's huge and wild here, definitely not for the faint of heart, but if you like roaming and exploring, it's a perfect in between of Central Park and Inwood Hill Park. I always come here with my partner and my dog, we've gone by the lake, we roam around the trails, it's a fantastic park. The dog park is hit or miss but that's because of owners, not Forest Park.
It was raining but I don't blame the park. What I like: . The park is well named; it's a true, dense forest in a city . The bandshell must be great on a nice summer's night . A volunteer generously cleaning up the garbage . The trees . Small pocket gardens (by greenhouse, by administration building, etc.) Become a volunteer for this city asset.
I’m a spring baby and this park was my haven this year. So many interesting surprises along my hike through it. One of my little gems. It’s clean and never crowded. I spot blue jays and other colorful birds and wild cats. Feels great being wrapped up in nature. Every visit cleanses my soul from the overwhelm of the City that I love❤️❤️❤️❤️
I've always liked forest park. I wouldn't really come here if I didn't live near by though. It's not much to offer other than a nice walking trail in the little forest or BBQ grills. Nice big parking lot. But if I want to go on trails I'd drive to a much bigger park. Forest park is great if you don't live far
Great place for a nature walk! Not busy, plenty of parking, includes a glacier lake filled with herons, turtles and fish. Lots of mushrooms and trails. A bit dirty with human litter on Woodhaven blvd side of park, but railroad track side is clean, ironically. Bike trails are great and well demarcated.
It's an oasis in the middle of the concrete jungle. It's literally a forest. It was a great experience to lay down on the ground and watch the stars. It also has an antique carousel. It's a good spot to have a picnic and go for a jog. I really enjoyed Forest Park. I recommend to spend an evening.
Visited the Bark Park. Lots of room to run around in. Plenty of room to play fetch with a ball. Separate sections for big dogs and small dogs. The dog park is all dirt so it gets muddy. Ruby loved her visit, but had to be cleaned after her visit. She loved running in the mud puddles.
I just like going on a hike ,, this park is very spacious, I love to walk by the pond and see the different kind ok birds you can take your dogs along , or if you like to mountain bike ♂️ take your face mask and you are all set . …
The park was created in 1895, however some of the trees are over 150 years old, it’s the tenth largest park in nyc, third largest in Queens, about 500 acres, rich in green & history, open all year, high quality air, this place makes for a fantastic outing/hike every time.
I have come to this park since I was a child, as well as my children, who are now young aults. It has always been a great place to play handball, basketball, baseball, have bbq's, or go for a slow stroll, aswell as go for jog, ride bikes, run track, and so much more!
So pretty! Loving the fall colors, the crunchy leaves, the open roadways, some closed to traffic. Many people jog here or bike here or simply go for a stroll. Very calming although easy to get confused navigating the entrances and exits of the trails and stuff.
Great family time here people reLax there track kids playground skate park picnic areas u can go walk the trails it's awesome

Awesome
Great running track, biking path, tennis court. It has a carousel for little children and a beautiful forest where you can walk in the woods and escape the hustle of daily life. Check the city's calendar for upcoming concerts and events that take place.
Cute park, great for the gender reveal party! The area was separated so we didn’t have to worry too much about not having enough space or seats. It’s a huge, beautiful park with a carousel , greenhouse and so much open space for kids and
A nice park with forest like feel without any of the risks, as they have a tons of trails and it is always close to the road (max half a mile). Allocate at least 1 hour for it as the closest subway station and bus stop can be over 30-40
It is an amazing park so many trails, so many hills, and not very crowded wich I am ok with that!
Dog-friendliness
So many special areas for dogs, but walking around the whole park with your fur baby it's highly recommended!!
Urban park where you quickly immerse in lush surroundings and sounds of nature. Many trail options for walking, running & cycling. The park is in great condition. Overall, it is a pleasant park for families and sport enthusiasts.
The park is large and you can re-connect with nature. Park is not that crowded but during late summer some people drop garbage there like empty water bottle etc. There is great trails which i use for biking.
Love this park. It is huge and has a little of everything: playground, Freedom drive, tall wonderful smelling pines, horse trails, people trails, statues, benches everywhere, and of course: so much nature.
Great park . Huge! Runs through Kee Gardens - Forest Hills . Bathroom available, dog friendly. Many different areas of the park. Beautiful all seasons but summer is most definitely the best time of year .
If one owns a dog this is the best place there's a very large area of where you can take your dog off leash. And your dog will love it. Very clean. Very well manicured. I will definitely go back often
Enjoyed a nice hike yesterday at Forest Park. Many trails to choose from. Beautiful wooded scenery. Bring yourself, your family, your bike, your dog. A great escape from the city while in the city.
Love taking the kids here when in queens . Family lives a few blocks away, once you enter it feels like you are in the woods in Oregon, really amazing place to in the middle of the concrete jungle.
Walk in the park any morning heading down to the Subway. Always cooler in Summer and a little warmer (windbreak) in the Winter. Lucky to live nearby, with the city doing a good job of maintaining.
Do not recommend this place for late night jogs and walks. Lots of sketchy characters ... Its okay during the day if you're local. Definably not somewhere worth going out your way to drive to.
I love this park because it's big with parking You can go out with your family, for a picnic you don't have to worry that people will get close to you. You can do alot of fun stuff here .
Beautiful park, trails are a little difficult to stay on if you don't know how to look for trail markers (me lol) but getting lost here is a little adventure in itself will visit again
I go to the trail for my runs and it is a great place for running. They have both trails and tracks. Also have dedicated tracks for running, a path for walking, sports area etc.
Absolutely beautiful and quiet!!! Loved the trails. It is very hilly, so be prepared for the inclines. The leaves are stunning to see in the Fall. Perfect foliage …
Many trails to walk and areas to explore. This park is huge and once you get deep into it, you feel like you're upstate. Love to come here when I need a dose of nature.
Good place for running and jogging. Your dog will love this place with trails. But barely has any lawn and not so many benches. It is not a good place for picnic.
Forest Park is just the best! You can do tons of things here, exercise, play taje your dog to the dog park, play soccer, tennis, basket, etc. I love coming here
Such a wonderful, big park. A place to get lost in. I have a few times. Great trails, off the best paths to explore. So lucky to be able to come here all the time
My dog and I come here frequently. She loves the trails, sights, and smells! Just pay attention to the trail markers to make sure you're on the right path :)
I just love that park and especially two of my huskies. We go there often, and they love to get lost in that park. You can even go horse riding in there.
This park, is huge! Lots of walking trails, people jogging and dog walkers. Get in touch with nature! Love it to escape the madness from the city.
very nice park, if you run, this is the place for you! - you can run on the asphalt, on the treadmill and on the trail. There is a lot of parking.
Absolutely beautiful . Who knew this was right in Queens and not upstate NY. There's great trails that you can try. Very peaceful …
One of the good park to drive and breathe some fresh air straight from the trees. I avoid this place on weekends as it tends to be crowded.
Went hiking at Forest Park. Beautiful trails, plenty of parking around and not many people. This place is a hidden gem. Highly recommend.
Great place to escape the city and enjoy some fresh air. Perfect for biking or walking a dog. A 10 minute walk from the J and Z trains
Lovely park. Great getaway on a noisy, hot summer day. Perhaps they could add trail markers and keep the trails more free of litter.
Pleasant park if you like to just walk, but there are also bike trails and tennis courts, so you can spend your time greatly
Forest Park is a really nice place to be. Has a pond, carousel, golf course, and plenty of free parking. More
One of the most "woodsy" parks I've been to in the city. The scenery is pretty amazing to take in.
Forest Park is one of the Largest Parks in New York City.. Golf Course Merry Go Round
A wonderful place to pretend we're NOT in a city.
