ONLY JOIN IF YOU WANT RESULTS! *Loads of equipment for all needs and goals (including beginners like me) *Exceptional staff *Member safety and education a priority The Space and the Members This wonderful facility is a thoughtfully designed, utilitarian space for all members and their varying fitness levels and individual goals. The members are the priority at Fortis and the setup is all about function for members to yield results. There is equipment galore including 17 squat racks. You NEVER have to wait for one! The members are a kind, non-preening people who are focused on achieving their own results rather than posing for others—it’s just not that kind of a place, thankfully! The Staff Fortis staff are among the best for three main reasons: they are friendly and supportive of members (beginners to experts) of all ages, they are extremely knowledgeable about fitness and weight loss (they are all in great shape and don't judge others if they are not yet), and have a strong desire to help their members achieve results. It’s the staff that kept me here when I first joined and felt so nervous and uncomfortable in this new environment. An excellent, comprehensive orientation is provided with the membership and the staff are so committed to form and safety for the members. As well, the orientation includes a free program that is proven to be very effective. And the Fat Loss 101 slideshow is very helpful if you want to lose weight—I watched it 3 times and took notes. Sean, the owner, is dynamic and engaging and definitely embodies his subtext “knowledge is power” and he seeks that for all of the members. My Results I’m a true beginner (and older), and have never lifted beyond 5-8lb dumbbells in my life and I now do powerlifting moves! I’ve been a proud member for almost 3 months and in that time I’ve lost 19 pounds so far and gained significant muscle. With Fortis’ three part system, this has been so realistic and achievable. Most importantly, Fortis and the staff really brought back the joy of movement and feeling strong in my everyday life outside of the gym. Even if you live a distance away from Fortis, consider attending. I drive well over an hour (often more due to traffic) to get here and it is 100% worth the time and effort to workout in such a special, unique environment.

Fortis - as they say, they do things differently. I have never been yelled at by a business owner (Sean) in such an unprofessional manner. I had been a member for 2 months and had accidently let the membership expire. Given the limited office hours, it was difficult to renew in person (at this point it could not be done online). After about 10 days I managed to set up a time to renew outside office hours with an accommodating employee. Admittedly I had entered the facility a few time without a valid card during this limbo period. The same day I was scheduled to renew for 6 months (as requested by an email 10 days prior) I received a phone call from Sean. He began the conversation by yelling at me about "sneaking into the gym" . (He literally opened the door for me the day before and I explained I have an appointment the next day to renew for 6 months and that I was having problems renewing since my membership expired) He proceeded to go into a rage. He lost control. The conversation ended with him screaming on the other end of the phone that i am banned for life. Wow... Anyway, if this review was only based on management I would give it a 0, however Fortis does have some great equipment that other gyms typically do not carry. In fairness that is worth something.

amazing place, I work across the street and got Bluejays tickets last second and I didn't wanna go all the way home just to use the gym I go to, I called up and asked about buying a day pass and when I came i was greeted almost instantly by Sean. Sean took me in and said "oh man don't worry about the day pass we take care of our neighbors" and let me work out for free and even gave me a pair of shorts to use (I was in my work clothes) The equipment was great and the environment was sick, felt like old school bodybuilding mixed with new modern athleticism/powerlifting. Everyone there seemed locked in and truly cared about their physique which just motivates you more. The lighting was great and I like how the rules there truly seem enforced not like a planet fitness and such where everyone leaves the equipment out and nothing happens. When my current gym membership expires I will definitely be getting one here.

Great gym for serious lifters. If you are fed up waiting for a squat rack at hoodlife while some dude is resting for 5 minutes in between his bicep curl sets in there, or if you ever had a gym staff harass you for breathing loudly while deadlifting or for using chalk, I highly recommend this place. Fortis got tons of lifting platforms, squat rack, advanced equipment and no nonsense attitude. Equipment here is kinda banged up and dirty at times but that jusy adds on to the rugged atmosphere in my view. Plus, the 24 hour access was a major draw for me because I have been working out late to avoid the crowd and any chance of exposure to the coronavirus. When I go around 10pm, there are about 4 to 5 folks there and it's easy to maintain that social distance. think parking is a bit limited here during peak hours but that maybe because of all the construction along carlaw. Overall, I am very happy with this gym!

This place is perfect for any real lifter. I just hit it when I was in from out of town, and was shocked it was better equipped than my training gym at home. It has everything - every type of bar, 2 different prowlers with a long track, full olympic lifting platforms, GHR stand, and of course plenty of squat cages, benches, dumbbells, kettle bells with a full range of weights, etc. Oh and they even have full boxing equipment: speed bag, double ended bag, heavy bag, but also a higher placed heavy bag (high enough for uppercut work, but they didn't have the strict uppercut bag), plus a professional timer. I power lift and am only working my way to competition now, so I wouldn't say I'm an expert, but for my experience I can't think of much equipment I didn't see. Sean welcomed me and I would recommend asking for him to get introduced to the place.

Best gym in Toronto. Been coming here off and on since the old smaller location for over 5 years now. Location isn’t the best to be my main gym but I always come back here in winter holidays to take advantage of their no contract + 24/7 access. This would not be my first choice for a weightlifting gym but for everything aside that (powerlifting, strong man, bodybuilding, general strength/fitness) look no further as you’ll be hard pressed to find any other gym that offers better equipment and environment within Toronto (with top notch staff at that). What are you waiting for? Call in and check the place out!

  • Dave Tong

If you're SERIOUS about getting strong, a great no-nonsense training facility. A lot of power racks and lifting platforms means little to no wait times. Qualified staff with lots of experience in coaching and competition. When you're ready, plenty of specialized equipment to supplement your training and conditioning. The clientele are generally focused on getting their training done; a lot of competitive athletes along with average people dedicated to trying to better themselves, mostly respectful of one another. Very few preening peacocks taking up space like most commercial gyms I've been to in the past.

  • Davis Creach

This gym is legit. Great equipment and atmosphere. There's lots of high end machines as well as space for powerlifting and strongman lifts. Cardio loft has lots of turf space, several pieces of equipment, and a full kickboxing area with uppercut bag, Muay Thai heavy bag, double end bag, and standing bag. Gloves provided too (though they're definitely used). Getting in the door for a drop in was a bit strange but once we got in it was great! Highly recommend this gym if you are into strength sport or just looking to lift with some good people in a great facility!

  • Jack Bishop

I was so happy to have met Sean Kelly and Omar Isuf during my session here. I travelled to be in Toronto for a week and could only train at this essential facility for just one session. Straight away, one of my favourite gyms and was perfect for my powerlifting program. I really like the deadlift platforms and squat racks in particular. Overall a spacious and airy feel. Highly recommended if you are lucky enough to visit or live in the wonderful capital of Ontario.

Fortis is one of the iconic iron temples in North America (and the world!) for a reason. Enormous, 24/7, with more “good” squat racks than anywhere else I’ve seen (and I’ve trained at some amazing powerlifting gyms). All the fun stuff for Strongman, Oly, Powerlifting, Buildin’ that Body—and also some conditioning and martial arts toys upstairs. Sean and staff run an unpretentious and awesome place to get strong as hell.

  • Caitlin Weiser

Emailed about purchasing a drop in to train while I was visiting Toronto from Denver and was instead invited to train for free. Daniel was super kind and helpful. The members were friendly and had no problem helping me find the equipment I needed. I’m new to powerlifting and didn’t feel intimidated around everyone lifting hundreds of pounds heavier than me. Wish we had a gym like this close to me in Colorado.

  • Jools Grommers

If you’re coming from out of town (or out of the country, like me.) make sure you email/call them for an appointment. Great venue, all the equipment you’d want to get stronger. Great crew, went out of their way to make me feel welcome and answered all the questions I had. Nothing much else to say really, I’ll be back whenever I’m next in TO and will recommend to anyone who is traveling this way.

  • Kenneth Brain

I was only in town for one night for business. Called around to multiple gyms who wouldn't let me do a drop in. Not only did fortis allow me, but gave me a thorough walk thru of the whole place and explained their layout/equipment. They had everything I needed, the space to use it and the answers to any questions I had before I started. Definitely using this place again when I'm back in town.

  • Cailla L.

Best gym ever. Seriously, not the kind of gym that takes your money and hopes you don't come for the rest of your contract. Lots of squat racks, benches, various equipment not found in typical gyms. Best part is the crowd. No one is there for anything but to get stronger and get better. And yet most are friendly and approachable. Owner and staff are also very approachable and helpful.

  • Anthony McNelis

My girlfriend and I vacationed in the Toronto area from the states and found Fortis when looking for a spot to train. The staff was extremely quick to respond, they were welcoming and accommodating and made us feel at home. The facility itself was awesome, any needs for strength athletes to bodybuilders they had. I will definitely be visiting Fortis again next time I'm in Toronto.

  • Simon “Simon T.” Trevarthen

Fortis Fitness is a great Toronto gym. Excellent equipment - with specialized strength and conditioning equipment to focus on key aspects of your development. Helpful and knowledge staff who try to help you achieve your goals. Clean, bright and very affordable. Great culture. 24 hour access meaning regarding of your schedule you can get a great workout. Highly recommended.

  • Cara Mcbroom

A must visit gym in Toronto. Was in town for a long weekend and it was super easy to set up a time to meet the owner for open gym hours. The owner and staff were extremely helpful and welcoming. They were kind enough to waive the day pass fee since we were international visitors. We will absolutely be coming back on our next trip to Toronto!

  • Nicole Giggey

Fortis is a gem! We visited here on a trip and they let us get a session in for free. We were just passing through but the quality of the gym (not to mention how lovely the staff and patrons were) is making me think about moving to Toronto. It has everything you could ever want to get strong at ridiculously fair rates. I hope to return soon!

  • adrian

It pains me to not be a member of Fortis. I'm in North York and the distance is too much for me. I toured their location near the beaches, I was drooling. Amazing equipment. Amazing facility with knowledgeable staff that are second to none IMO. Crossing my fingers that Sean (owner) and his team decide to get a location in North York.

  • Nicole Dinn

Hands down the best gym I've ever trained or coached in in my 20 years in the industry. I fell in love as soon as I set foot in here 6 years ago, and haven't looked back. The coaches and clients here are family. Whether it's Olympic weightlifting, powerlifting, strongman, or anything else, you'll find a home at Fortis Fitness.

  • Carrie Vogler

Definitely recommend this gym! I was visiting from the US and the staff and gym members were all friendly and super helpful. The facility is well-stocked with equipment to make you strong in all the best, fad-free ways. This is not a meathead gym. As a first-time visitor I felt super comfortable and welcome.

  • Detailed Fitness

A gym where you will find the equipment you need to get strong. The equipment is always in its right place , becausethe members and Lifting Coaches, Trainers, Lifestyle Coaches, Nutrition Coaches, Fascial Stretch Therapists, keep the place tidy. Fortis has masterminds of the fitness industry under one roof.

  • John Margaritsanakis

If you like to lift and you fancy being in an environment of like-minded individuals focused on their health, on form and on improving themselves then this is an amazing gym. The equipment is top notch, the trainers are knowledgeable, active and offer advice all the time, and the price is pretty reasonable.

  • Roman Jezek

The best gym I've ever trained in. Never have to wait for equipment, of which they have everything I could practically need (free weights, resistance bands, foam rollers, boxes etc). Very good management with outstanding treatment of members. Would recommend to anyone wishing to train in the Toronto area.

  • Jordan Singh

Best place I've ever trained at. Staff are super friendly and extremely knowledgeable. Brilliant specialist equipment. Affordable pricing. Great for people looking to get in shape and also for competitive athletes, powerlifters and olympic lifters. Would move to Toronto just to be able to train here.

  • Tyler de Jonge

The place seemed decent. Few things to have realistic views of are the florescent lighting and lack of natural sunlight. Make it seem stuffy. And the male change room is really small and was very dusty grimy. But if you go there to work hard and push yourself it seems like a good atmosphere for you.

  • Gareth Reid

FANTASTIC gym with a plethora and wide range of equipment. Friendly staff and membership base of people focused on improving their physical capabilities through hard training. Not like your typical commercial gym, this a serious gym where you can actually get in a proper workout. Highly recommend.

  • Lori Xu

Traveled to Toronto for two weeks and Fortis is definitely my favorite place! You can find everything you need here no matter what your training focus is. The staff were so kind and sweet, and they sometimes even surprise you with homemade low-carb low-sugar and pretty delicious treats!

  • Carey Lam

The owner Sean along with his staff and other members made it an incredibly welcoming gym atmosphere. Pair that with an extensive range of elite equipment for any level or type of lifter and it's an amazing experience. I'd recommend it to anyone in Toronto or willing to commute.

  • Michael Brooker

The best fitness facility I have ever attended. I have tried to lift at commercial gyms but they do not even remotely compare to Fortis. Whether or not you live in the area, this gym is worth the commute. Don’t miss out on a one-of-a-kind strength and conditioning environment.

  • Jason Lee

Best gym I’ve found in Toronto. BEWARE: this is a no nonsense, no frills, serious gym. No flash facilities or club music playing. People are here to WORK and take their workouts seriously. You won’t find a better gym for making progress, insane number of squat racks!

  • e Z

Owner and staff were very welcoming to the gym. The members and atmosphere was amazing. I highly recommend this gym to anyone looking for a gym in Toronto. Facility was well put together and organized with various equipment to satisfy your needs. Overall, amazing!

  • Fed Up

Its a good gym, well kept, 24hr access, clean...not really any issues, except the music played. Sometimes its so loud you can't think, and it is not everyday music, but hardcore heavy metal, in the middle of the afternoon, its the last thing one wants to hear..

  • Kam

Hands down the best gym in Toronto, and Canada... if you are looking for a serious gym where chains, chalk, barbells, and squat racks are your thing. It is open 24 hours a day and operates on month-to-month contracts, no strings attached, which is fantastic!

  • Blair Sventon

  • Alexou

Incredible place with some of the best staff I've had the pleasure of meeting. Equipment is any powerlifter or strongman's dream. Was given access for free for a few days whilst visiting from France. Couldn't be more thankful!

  • Godspeed You

It is your decision how you wish to run your business, but I am just saying that a lot of your potential customers would benefit from having more accommodating staffed hours. Most people work 9-5 and cant make it before 6pm.
