If you have never been to Franca’s you are missing out on a truly 5 star restaurant in the middle of the industrial area on Edmonton Trail. We discovered this gem through a year end celebration dinner with my golf group from the Winston many years ago and it is now our favourite restaurant in Calgary. My wife and I mostly reserve for dinner but have been lately going for lunch dates as well. We have also attended a few wine tasting events hosted by Franca and Mario who invite wineries from their home area in Italy. When we first started going they catered to the lunch crowd in the area and were only open for dinner on Sat night with a set menu. They later changed Sat night to an open menu and have now added some Fri nights too. I guess it’s getting too popular so yes you need a reservation. And the food, OMG, the best Italian food in Calgary! We celebrated dinner for our friends parent’s 50th anniversary and her parent’s father who is a very staunch Italian said it passed the test and the baccala was the best he had ever tasted. One of my favourites is the gnocchi which just melts in your mouth. When have you had pasta that melts in your mouth! This is a family run business with Franca and her kids running the front along with her sister on occasion and Mario in the kitchen perfecting these marvellous meals. Mario will come out for a short visit to make sure you have enjoyed your food and experience. They are all so friendly and caring. When Franca has time she will sit with you and share their story about the restaurant and their roots in Italy. They have decorated the restaurant with pictures from the old farm in Italy too. Very interesting story. If you are looking for some of the best Italian food in Calgary with with great friendly people, Franca’s is a must!

Found this hidden gem in an industrial area and came here to celebrate a birthday on a Friday night. Our host, Alexandro (hope I got your name right) was fabulous. He gave us good recommendations of drinks and food and tells us a bit about the family-run restaurant. We ordered the Gnocchi Rose, the Linguini Scampi, and the Bistecca to share. All the food was amazing. We love the Rose sauce so much we wish there were bread to wipe the plate. For dessert, we ordered the two tiramisu (regular and Limoncello) and the Nutella cake. Love the Limoncello tiramisu...so refreshing. The mocachinno and earl grey latte were a nice touch to finish a delicious meal. We also got a Limoncello specialty drink on the house for birthday (Thank you.) Definitely will come back again to support this family run business. What a wonderful experience!

It was a true pleasure to attend Franca's 20th Anniversary Fundraiser Gala on September 24, 2022. Franca and Mario, congratulations on this amazing milestone! As always, we were treated to a room setting of pure elegance, with attention given to every little detail. Franca always delivers on her vision and Mario's menu is always creative, authentic and delicious! Outstanding! This Fundraiser for Minds Over Matter was incredibly enlightening. Rick's presentation really opened our eyes to the many complexities of mental health issues that are experienced by all age groups in our society. The fact that this organization uses 100% of funds raised to help those in need and 0% for administration costs, attests to its integrity. It is an honor to be able to support Minds Over Matter knowing their focus is on quality and affordable care related to each client's mental health and well-being. We chose to treat ourselves to Franca's Valentines special on Saturday, sort of a Valentine's 2.0. The had a prepared a special four course menu which was great - no decisions to make, no stress - just enjoy. The starter was a risotto ball stuffed with mozzarella covered in a tomato basil parmigiana cheese sauce- wonderful. The meal became more flavourful with each dish., The second dish was a lobster stuffed ravioli in a lobster cream sauce- so delicious ! The main ( my favourite) was a seared beef tenderloin in a wine sauce served with potatoes and carrots. The presentation was beautiful, the beef melted in my mouth. The 4th course was a beautiful chocolate sponge cake with chocolate and caramel- Decadent, but not too sweet. We took pictures so you can see the beautiful presentation and care with which each dish was prepared. The staff was very attentive and friendly. Seating was arranged that you didn't feel rushed and we had lots of personal space. 5 STARS because it was that special.

My daughter and son in law took my husband and I out for supper to celebrate our birthdays. I love Italian food but this place was better than anything Italian that I had. We started off with bruschetta, this was delicious the bruschetta was not the typical make at home type. This had amazing spices and sun dried tomatoes, the server brought us extra bread as the toppings were so much that we needed an extra bread to finish. We then tried Caesar salad and Mista salad, both were amazing, very fresh and delicious. I had chicken topped with bruschetta and chef’s choice of pasta on the side. 10/10 My husband had the chicken parmigiana, delicious! My daughter had the gnocchi and my son in law the jambalaya pasta (spicy but delicious). We finished with the in house-made tiramisu served in a martini glass. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. He even remembered my daughter being before and welcomed her back. This is very friendly and family oriented restaurant. I’m definitely coming back.

Perfect is the only way to describe Franca's. I'm not sure I've ever received a perfect experience from a restaurant before. We arrived without a reservation, and they gave us the best table in the house (before their busy rush started.) I told Franca (the owner served us) what I was in the mood for - she had something made up that wasn't on the menu. It was devine. The portions were perfect, everything is authentic Italian made from scratch and cooked quite literally to perfection. This includes the very reasonably priced dessert. On that note; you can come here for a high end experience and still stick to a low end budget. There are meal prices for all budgets and all meals are for all tastebuds. To top off the incredible service we received from start to finish, we were offered a free drink. We declined as we were full (but not heavy stuffed, it was just right.) So... get this. Franca comes out with a gift box wrapped up with a bow. Some specialty bread because we missed out on the comped drinks. If you want a great night out, bang for your buck, perfect food and service, go to Franca's!

Franca's is a family owned restaurant from the host to the cooks. She greets all of her guests warmly and chats with each table before a family member took our drink order. We started with the imported appetizer, the burrata (freshly flown in from Italy) - a feast for the eyes. The combination of creamy burrata cheese, cherry tomatoes, arugula, pesto and olive oil wrapped in a slice of focaccia bread melts in your mouth. A slight taste of salt lingers on the tongue after swallowing. The lamb chops, ribeye and palm-sized prawns were made to perfection. Staff/family members were extremely attentive and made sure our glasses of wine or water were always full. It has a wonderful ambiance that welcomes family and friends.

We had the most incredible experience at Franca's Italian Restaurant! They went above and beyond to organize a truly personal event for me. Every detail, from the decorations to the overall ambiance, was customized to perfection and they accommodated numerous dietary restrictions flawlessly. The food was absolutely phenomenal, and the staff were not only professional but also incredibly warm and accommodating. The restaurant itself is simply beautiful, adding to the overall charm of the evening. I can't recommend Franca's enough – they truly know how to make any occasion special!

Heard about this place via my Italian-born colleague. Wife has been craving tiramisu like crazy, and it started with asking my colleague where to find the best tiramisu. Not only do they have amazing tiramisu(we had both the traditional and their special lemon version), but I also had to try their gnocchi. Now talk about a perfectly delicious and soft gnocchi; like clouds melting in your mouth. Incredible! We did curbside takeout due to current restrictions, but I cannot wait to dine in sometime and enjoy the full experience! Everything on the menu just looks amazing, and you can tell they are a passionate family-run business. Find the new go-to Italian place in Calgary: Check!!

Amazing Italian food. This restaurant is owned and run by a family, and it shows in the quality of the food and friendliness of the staff. We had a Burrata cheese appetizer, which was directly imported for them, with fresh tomatoes, prosciutto and arugula. Amazing. For mains I had the Chicken Parmesan, which was easily the best chicken parm I've ever had. Very generous portions with fresh pasta and tomato sauce that tasted like the tomatoes had been picked that morning. My wife had the gnocchi (which i sampled) and it was amazing as well. Can't recommend Franca's enough - amazing food and a cozy atmosphere with great service.

Thank you Franca and Mario for making our wedding dinner fabulous the roasted chicken with mushroom and truffle oil sauce was a massive hit everyone (that didn't have allergies) enjoyed it. The lasagna and fusilli pasta was the best I've ever had in a long while just like Nonna use to make it!! Thank you from the bottom of our hearts (and stomachs) it was perfect. For anyone reading this review Franca's Italian restaurant off Edmonton Trail is a must for lunch, dinner and catering. I very much look forward to stopping by for a meal this week to have some delicious hand made Gnocchi and eggplant parmigiana my favorite!!!!

This family owned gem of a restaurant is a must visit if you love good food. I have been here once before for a private event, yes they do those too, and wanted to take my partner to have the amazing experience I had. She had vegetarian pizza and I had lamb chops with asparagus and portion of pasta that came with it. Absolutely scrumptious! Obviously going there again! Wow! What an amazing family owned business. We originally tried their pizza at their location in Oakridge and found out about their restaurant! Food was delicious: bruschetta is one of the best I’ve had, pasta was fresh, the veal and cod were amazing and the steak was so flavourful! The desserts were top notch, especially the limoncello tiramisu. To top it all off, the service was impeccable. We truly felt at home and even gave hugs to Franca because they felt like family after our experience. We’ll be making this our family dinner spot in the future!

Franca's Italian Restaurant is simply a precious find, reminiscent of the good old days. The warm and inviting atmosphere whisked me away to a time when things were simpler. The staff, my, they were as caring as if I were their own family. And the food, oh, the lasagna, risotto, and tortellini with pesto, it was like a taste of Italy itself. We had an amazing night at Franca’s this past Saturday. They were running a charity event for a group called “Minds over Matter”. We had our Dad's 80th Birthday party at Franca's. We have been customers for years and there is no question this is our go-to place for all our family gatherings. Franca helped us plan the menu and we were not disappointed...from the starter to the Lasagna main, and a special lemon and rasberry birthday cake that was fabulous! We are always treated like family by Franca, Mario, and Elena, the service is always amazing and love that Chef Mario always comes to the table to ask us how our meals were! I am in love with the homemade sausage. The homemade bread and gnocchi were little clouds of heaven. This is by far the BEST authentic Italian in the city. A hidden treasure with all heart. OH MY GOODNESS!! What a true treasure this was for us to find! Group of 8 with reservations on Saturday evening. We couldn't decide on what to each have, so they decided for us! Beautiful family meal was tailored to our group! The dishes kept coming and coming with a variety amazed us all. Absolutely DELICIOUS, phenomenal service, perfect atmosphere. Nice presentation on the caprese, 4 LARGE red tomato slices with a 1/4 slice of rubbery mozzarella and a tiny leaf of basil each. Looked great 5/5 taste 4/5. Pasta was great, Calabrese sausage pieces on a tomato sauce, penne rigate with Ground cheese. Perfectly cooked 5/5 Lemoncello tiramisu. Pretty good 4/5 not really to my taste. Service was great! I would certainly come back if I was ever going or coming from the airport. Slightly better than Rae's, in the same neighborhood.

We had a reservation elsewhere but they decided the day before they can't accommodate us anymore. So we went to Francas for my birthday lunch. It's such a nice family run business. Three generations are making sure you get an awesome, authentic experience. We had the best Pizza on Canadian soil. When I closed my eyes it felt like I was in Naples. It was so good we still talk about it. Needless to say I'm glad that other place cancelled on us. Thank you Francas and the rest of her family!!

Fantastic meal and equally fantastic service. My wife and I stopped by for lunch and Alessandro helped us select a some items from the menu. My husband and I ventured out of our quadrant of the city to find a fresh and authentic Italian experience. We came across Franca’s and it was so fresh and delicious! We even met the owner and she was so warm and friendly, a truly amazing experience. We will be back again for sure! I don’t normally eat until my stomach was so full, but, I couldn’t stop, the food was so good. It was worth the drive. I highly recommend it!

I was surprised when I made the reservations and it was an old friend from 25 years ago… The food was a five star.. The ambience was a five star and the service was a five star… This is a hidden gold mine. If you’ve never been to it, you’re missing out.

Our son recommended Francas to us, so we went for a fantastic lunch to celebrate our anniversary. The service was absolutely great, the food was more than just great! I’m not a red meat person much but ordered the ribeye. Done to perfection! The portion sizes were generous, and Franca’s Teramisou special was to die for!!!! We recommend this quaint, beautiful restaurant to try! You HAVE to go!!!!

Quiet spot on edmonton trail for lovely authentic Italian. Tried the tricolor gnocchi and the truffle pappardelle. The gnocchi was a bit over cooked but the pappardelle was perfect and tastes really meaty despite no meat in it, would try this dish again! I'm only saying its ok because the price is a bit high and compared to the other Italian stores nearby it doesn't really stand out.

This isn't just a good restaurant, it's a true Italian family operation with amazingly tasty and authentic dishes. The entire family is there to make you feel welcome, and to spoil you with exquisite food. Go for a meal...and leave with a happy stomach and some new friends! We'll be back!!

Franca if I could give you ten stars I would. Thank you for a wonderful anniversary dinner. Your attention to detail on the table setting drew many comments. It was done so artistically. Mario, our guests raved about the steak (done to perfection), the eggplant parmigiana and the scampi....all were superb. It was truly a night to remember and we are most grateful.

Wow! If you are looking for some of the best food you can eat I suggest you get down to Franca's ASAP. Words cant describe how amazing everything is. Aside from the food the service and staff are beyond friendly. You walk in a client and leave feeling like family. It's been a couple weeks since I've been back home after visiting Alberta and I'm craving the Alba pizza from Franca's. The limoncello tiramisu was a perfect dessert afterwards, with a shot of limoncello to end the meal (a family recipe!). Franca and her family were incredibly hospitable and made the experience even better. The perfect dining experience!

You should not expect a tip for doing your job. Totally brings down the class of the place; and please be aware people come from countries where tipping is not customary. It is impolite to ask why a customer didn’t tip you, especially when it is done in a very unprofessional & confrontational manner.

This wad the third time we've been to Franca's. The food is inspiring. The cozy dining room is pleasant and intimate. Franca herself is the friendliest restaurateur I've ever met. She does special events there and she showed us pictures of the food and set up. Wow! If you have an event for around 50 people, Franca's would not disappoint.

Excellent place for lunch & special dinners, catering always impressed the Boss & the daily special is always a 5star surprise from The Flav! Incredible food, incredible service! We chose Franca's for our work team's lunch catering, and despite the many last minute changes from our end, the staff were so kind, easy to work with and very accommodating. The Caesar salad, the veil lasagna and the assorted desserts were to die for! We look forward to ordering again, thank you!

At Franca’s you are treated like family. They promote themselves as casual dining however nothing casual about their amazing food. Always fresh ingredients used and cooked just right. Food was fantastic. Portions are large and they brought a kids plate right away so the adults could relax a bit and everyone could eat hot food.

There is an intimate, friendly ambience from the husband-wife owners. While we have been to many Italian restaurants, we were delighted with the fresh and tasty dishes of buratta, risotto, and in-house made gnocchi. The filet mignon and salmon mains were also superb. Foodies must try Francas.

Had takeout tonight! Curbside pickup was a breeze, customer service was so nice! The truffle pizza was awesome! Was told by them to Reheat for 5 minutes at 400 degrees! We had the calabrese penne and the Caesar salad too which were also super good! Highly recommend for pizza and pasta night!

Hidden jam…Finally I found it!I was looking for ( very Italian ) restaurant since my fav Italian restaurant is gone. ( Inglewood 15 years ago) All food is amazing. If I have another stomach , I could order more.

This was one of the best meals I have had in a very long time. The gnocci was so light and fluffy it was like biting into a cloud. Franca is so friendly and personalble, even though tjis was my first time at thecrestaurant I felt like I was seeing and old friend. This is my new favorite!

Recently found this place but they've been around for 14 years. Did a lunch takeout but can wait to come back for a dinner service. The food was amazing!!

Just the best. There is no other restaurant in Calgary that offers this experience and quality. Food is over the top , Service is perfect. Franca and Mario and their boys are very good at what they do.

Franca makes you feel like family from the moment you walk in the door and offers one of the most incredible dine in experiences I've had in Calgary. I was actually shocked when I walked in... the space is a beautiful escape. I will definitely be going back and bringing friends

Corporate lunch / Christmas party. Excellent food again this year. The roasted chicken was probably the best I have ever eaten. Pasta was awesome again. The atmosphere is warm and comfortable and the staff and owner are great. Need to take my wife here sometime soon. Thanks

My wife and I were very happy when the accommodated us on a Saturday night. Reception, service was excellent, food was succulent, portions were very generous, the only thing we missed out was on the deserts, no more room. Would recommend to everyone that loves a great meal.

Absolutely amazing food and atmosphere. The owners treat you like your at their home, fantastic hosts. If you close your eye and taste the food you would think you’re in Italy. The menu is simple yet offers plenty of choices. All the ingredients are so fresh.

If you want to try a ORIGINAL ITALIAN food then.....this is one the best place to go in Calgary. The quality and the taste of every single dish is absolutely amazing. Franca, Mario and their team are blend of perfection for this cosy and familiar restaurant.

Currently here… haven’t even made it past the appetizers and I already know the quality this place delivers. 10/10 would recommend. Quality, best service, and above all… delicious.

Franca's was incredible. I had lamb chops and their homemade gnocchi, and it was the best meal I've had over the holidays. They make a proper Italian coffee too, unlike any other I've had in this city. Will be seeing you all again. Thanks Franca and family!

Franca's is always a treat. Great food and friendly service. A nice change over typical Italian fare. The specials are fantastic and the cappuccino is superb and ask Franca about the London Fog.... They also have live music on occasion. Highly recommended.

The full meal of appetizer, wine, entree, dessert and liquer was the best meal I have ever enjoyed. The servers were friendly and excellent. I highly recommend Franca's.

Amazing. We went there for a birthday. Had to be about 50 people. They were great. Food was incredible service was amazing. All the staff were social friendly and accomadating. Francas is such a great place would absolutely reccomend this

Good food but a little bit pricey in compare with other Italian restaurants in Calgary. If you don't mind the noise level, you'd enjoy the ambience. It was my first visit and I felt the frequent customers are treated differently.

It's a lovely restaurant with lovely hosts. A hidden gem on Edmonton trail. Love having it in the neighborhood. Make sure to make a reservation. Trust me, it's worth it.

The food was delicious! Great pizza and pasta specials. We really enjoyed the lamb chops and tiramisu as well. Our server Ramona was on her first day but did a wonderful job! Overall a very satisfying experience.
