For me, Grand Hope Park seemed to offer just that: Hope....and on a grand scale. Corny? Probably. But this park deserves to be bragged about and shared. Especially in the springtime by looking at the foliage. And just the fact that I can utilize the word "foliage" when reviewing ANYTHING (!) in this concrete jungle that I call "home" should give pause. Enough pause to come see for yourself just how much charm G.H.P. embodies. It's an oasis smack dab in the middle of (what L.A. considers) "high" rises. A "miniature Central Park"? Let's not get crazy. Cleaner. Much, much cleaner. And, yes - I'm speaking from experience. Adjectives such as: "lush", "manicured", "safe-ish", "quiet-er" come to mind. There's a little something for everyone. A playground, an exercise station, water fountains varying in size and in non-refundable change collected. Beyond the ample gorgeous gazebos lies a waterfall. A spacious (because "sprawling" isn't an oasis-like adjective) grassy area doubles nicely as the on-campus portion of FIDM (don't ask me what it stands for because I don't know!?) Bring the kids. Or don't. Bring the grandparents. Or don't. But whatever u do... DON'T bring the dog! I happen to know the security detail here and they don't play! (But u can, and I encourage it!)
It’s a sprawling park with grassy areas, plenty of benches beneath stone pillars and plant awnings with flowers wrapped around the sides. Playground seems typical though I haven’t explored it. It’s kept very clean. Even on a Sunday at 1:20pm there’s a maintenance man walking the property. Quiet, only the hum of the main street and occasional sirens. Apt complexes and art buildings surround the park. There is shade to be found even on a 95 degree afternoon. Tomorrow is Labor Day (#unionlove) and would be interesting to see how the park is utilized for larger crowds. It certainly has the space to accommodate several hundred people at once! DTLA isn’t very green so swing by this park to get a break from all the ugly garbage filled streets and sidewalks that LA refuses to clean up (you’ll be hard pressed to find garbage cans around this city At All. But in this park I see four within direct eyesight. Some only 20 feet away from one another. So as an aside if you can’t find a garage can for blocks, check out the parks.
This is an example of a new approach to park design and development that is behind put to the test throughout Los Angeles. The feature infused lush greenery ( indigenous and exotic) an eclectic assortment of flowering shrubs, amenities and nicely spaced benches. These "urban scape" mini parks have been introduced throughout the City, to offer a neighborhood in urban areas a park experience and recreational services within a tight and limited plot of land. (Usually, within a space that is less than a City block.) For the large community of dog owners in DTLA, these micro parks are very popular and very much needed for the overwhelming number of dog owners. This park is condense but mighty in beauty, serenity, and character. The fountain at night is amazing with a light within the fountain changing colors and putting on a dazzling show. Additionally, Grand Park is a go to venue for special events, conventions, concerts and festivals that take place in DTLA.
Nice but small. Dogs NOT allowed. Fenced, very well kept and clean with seating areas, fountain, small playground, and exercise equipment. However, this is NOT a dog park and NO dogs are allowed (if you were confused as I was why this shows up when googling “dog park”). You may see reviews claiming otherwise. However, after some research, it seems these were mistaking this park for one in San Francisco of a similar name, or West Hollywood Dog Park. At Grand Hope Park in DTLA, Security WILL kick you out if you have a dog. Which is a shame since it’s a much needed reprieve in this neighborhood (and also strange, since they have dog statues...). As mentioned, security patrols the park 24/7 and does keep it safe and well maintained. The park is not 24/7 (posted hours on signs), and is closed a couple hours each day for maintenance.
Small and quiet park, no public restrooms. This park is conveniently located off Grand Ave and Hope, very close to fun and vibrant part of the sports and entertainment center of LA Live. It is peaceful and quiet, with some colorful status, art towers and flowers covered structures to provide some shade. It also has a famous designing and fashion institution inside of it. Therefore, there were signs saying only for students to sit areas. However, it has no public restrooms, so people can not stay long or just wash their hands. I feel that it is really not for everybody to stop and enjoy, but only for people who live close by. As a resting point, it is fine, but it is not a functional public park for everyone to enjoy.
A great clean well kept relaxing peaceful beautiful park full of trees offering architecture, fountains, art, small children's play area, a clock tower, scattered benches and a small section with tables on the side away from the grass area. Recommend reading a book, taking a stroll, having some quiet time, taking pics, good for strollers, toddlers and young children and small groups, do not recommend large groups, young teens or parties, not available for BBQ's. It is gated so I'm assuming they close it at sundown, street metered parking available, no bathrooms available. Walking distance to Ralph's, restaurants, bars, coffee shops and shopping.
It’s cute I expected more like a all day thing but the day I went was on a Sunday and they started to kick everyone out by like 6ish. Over all it’s a nice park to take a small walk they got benches to sit back and relax , I found it peaceful since the buildings can be a little overwhelming after a while you can come in and have a little distraction with some trees have a nice min to your self on the grass. They even have a little work out station for the adults while the kids play in the children’s section. I recommend if your passing by and looking to have a nice sit under a tree.
Beautiful Park with lovely architecture and foliage. There are benches you can sit on and picnic tables. There is a play area for children that's currently closed off (because of social distancing). The signs say that dogs aren't allowed in the park, but I see people bring them by. There is a small water feature on the side that is pretty cool. The school FIDM is located in the building here and there is a store and small museum if you'd like to check that out. (I'm an alumni! Check out my work @BeobeeNails on IG)
I found this to be my favorite park in DTLA. The setting sun (and presumably the rising sun, for that matter) provides a constantly changing view as the light reflects differently off of the surrounding buildings. There is some exercise equipment on the western side of the park while a peaceful water feature greets visitors entering from the East. Despite its size, GHP will help you feel like you are not in the middle of a city. The trees and landscape are nothing short of relaxing on a nice afternoon.
Nice park to go to. Didn't know it was used in a movie starring Sandra Bullock. Cool. The fountain steps used in movies were drained. Guess they're cleaning it. I recommend a visit.
Playground
There's a playground for the kiddos. Lots of space.
Restrooms
There are no restrooms at this park. Total Bummer.
Dog-friendliness
Pet friendly. Just bring your cleanup for your dogs.
Picnic area
There's lots of area for a picnic.
Pretty park in the middle of the downtown bustle. Unlike many of the parks in downtown this one is kept scrupulosly clean, which makes for a more enjoyable visit, especially with small children. Update: just attended the annual Halloween party for kids here, sponsored by the Business Improvement District, the park is still well maintained, and clean. Still a great place to take kids in the downtown area.
Horrible - came with a service dog, with a tag and official leash and was turned away. Security lady kept asking what services she performs which is completely irrelevant. You are not meant to share such details with anyone. You need to brief your staff on service dog policy - there is a sign outside saying no dogs allowed unless it’s a service dogs. What a terrible experience. Incompetent.
I enjoyed visiting this park very much. The benches were tapped off so there really wasn’t many places to sit unless you brought a blanket or something to sit on the grass. With that being said, the park was nice, clean, and filled with nature sounds (the birds, the wind, etc.). I caught one of the birds watching me when I sat down around a few trees... it was interesting to me .
The epitome of exclusion. This beautiful and highly manicured park has a tall fence around it and it's very clear to me that it is designed for certain people and not others. Hilarious that it has dog statues and is not at all dog friendly, but it's not even that which irritates me: this is the kind of park whose users would call the cops for loitering if you know what I mean.
There are so many benches and seating areas. The park is clean and colorful because of the plants and vibrant artwork. I have seen security at the park when I've visited. Although it seems they work for the museum, it helps people in the park feel safe as well. Visiting Grand Hope Park is always calming and enjoyable, especially in this hectic city setting it's located in.
Nice park in the city. It's connected to an art school so my guess is the art students take a break and reset or let their creative juices get going again... parking is tough but it's LA, that's par for the course. Thankful that I get to come here and unwind, reset my head space. It feels safe but again, it's the city so i'm always on the look out :)
Guard was complaining that my son couldn’t use his bike at the park while there’s always kids using scooters and bikes and didn’t say anything Don’t bring ur kids here if you want them too Have fun They complain about kids but not when homeless people come in and they don’t take them out But there worry about a 5 year old using his Bike!
The park nearby Ralph's is a particularly nice park; given that it's also home to the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising of DTLA. That being said, the guards tend to keep the park somewhat sparse; perhaps to the detriment of sociability. The outskirts are a somewhat hot nightlife scene, here and there. (for bum sorts).
Tt was an incredibly beautiful park to take a leisurely stroll through, especially were you to bring along someone special... It has beautiful statue's and plenty of benches to sit at and enjoy the wonderful atmosphere. It very close to plenty of diverse shopping centers and other things to do, so have a great time at the Park
Small greens in the middle of the city that affords some of the most spectacular cityscape views. This is a great place for an afternoon lunch. So, grab your favorite take-out from your nearby favorite eatery. Tip: This park would serve as a great date meeting place. It's not too public and it's not too private.
Very clean, well maintained, and beautiful park. Right in the center of dtla, its a quick and easy escape from all the people and traffic that can be overwhelming sometimes. The atmosphere is absolutely amazing and great spot to go alone or with a group of friends or with family. Highly recommend this park.
This is a quiet little DTLA park with open green spaces and nice little playground for children. It is a peaceful place relative to the surrounding hustle and bustle of the surrounding city. It's a well trafficked park with people quietly lunching and the sounds children playing. A retreat from the city.
Such a little gem in the heart of the city. I love that park and meditate and play football and soccor there as often as I can with my friends. They have a jungle gym and lots of grass and it's close to good stores such as ralphs and starbucks. I would reccomend this to anyone thats in the area.
This is my absolute favorite park in Los Angeles. It has so many places to sit, a beautiful view of all areas of the city and shaded awnings covered in beautiful red flowers. Honestly, this park is a total vibe. I love it so much literally just walking into it makes me immediately feel happier.
This is a pretty cool oasis in the heart of beautiful downtown Los Angeles. It's a nice place to walk your dog, hang out, relax, read, do yoga, whatever. One drawback is the large number of homeless folks, but the place is safe and no matter where you go downtown, you'll encounter the homeless.
Lovely little gem of a park hidden in downtown, but be warned--there are NO BATHROOMS avaliable for the public. Apparently, since it's technically a private park, one open to the public but private nonetheless, there are no public restrooms. The closest one is at the Ralphs down the street.
My husband and I recently stumbled upon this park. What a lovely oasis amidst the urban grit of Los Angeles. It's surprisingly spacious with many places to lounge. There's a playground for kids, too. If you enjoy fashion, "The Fashion Institute" borders on one side. A welcome find for us.
This is a stalwart park downtown that, every time I've been there, has always been quiet, relaxing, peaceful... Pretty much the opposite of downtown otherwise. It's a great mid-day respite from the bustle/chaos. Ample shade, green grass. It's not huge, don't expect a lot, but I love it.
A very small park but beautiful and kept up very well. Most parks and places in dt Los Angeles are filled with homeless people but that's not the case here. Great place for a picnic or to workout. They also always have a couple of security guards who are very nice as well. Great place!
A great park for almost anything besides team sports. Shaded tables for eating lunch. Numerous shady benches. Some open space for running about or tossing a ball or something. Some stuff for kids to climb on but nothing too big. Can be a bit busy at lunch but is rarely 'crowded'.
Great little playground for the kids, because it's got a fence, so they can't run out into traffic. And the whole park has security guards keeping an eye out, so...no bums doin' their bum things! Also, very well kept, pretty grass, pretty trees, nice normal, safe people.
found clean grass to sit and kneel on to braid my friends hair. shady and sunny spots in late afternoon. cool fashion students in and out. pleasant walk to Bottega Louie parked right in front of this park. meters 6$/hour or park nearby Athena Garage for entire day 9$.
What a grand name! Inside the park, however, there aren't a lot. Mostly a small playground and some public space for people to chill or exercise. Part of the park is bordering some apartment buildings so the park gives me the vibe of an apartment complex common area.
Lovely park but for a neighborhood that’s very dog friendly it’s surprising they don’t allow dogs. Like why even have dog statues Was just passing through with my dog as a short cut between Ralphs and my apt and the security told me I couldn’t even do that.
I love coming here on semi-sunny days to sit on a bench and people watch, eat a meal, and be away from my home and work grinds. The energy of being adjacent to the art+design school doesn't hurt, no do the mosaics or convenient shop for last minute needs.
A great little park that is centrally located next to FIDM. It provides plenty of shade. Interesting lawn art and a play area for kids. It is always supervised and police frequent the area for breakfast, lunch and diner. Restrooms could use improvement.
The park was really nice. Pretty flowers. Benches. Shaded areas. There are no bathrooms. It was suggested to use Starbucks. And there are no picnic tables, which would be a nice addition. But it is a very clean park, perfect to enjoy nice weather in.
The security won't protect you if you need help. I was walking my dog on hope when a man aggressively harassed me, I went into the park to ask security to help me call the cops and she refused, she said that's not her jurisdiction. I'm
GH Park is a great part to just go hang out if you’re working downtown or on the weekend to take the kids to run around. It has a great splash pad kids love and is perfect in the summertime or just whenever it’s warm in LA
Went for the kids Halloween event and it was great! For $8 we got a free hotdog a free Halloween bag for the free candy we even hot a free pumpkin and not to mention the kids puppet show. Amazing! …
Such a dumb rule that you can’t walk your dog here, even on a leash. This is very incononvenient for people who live downtown with dogs. And why is the security lady working on a Sunday? Don’t they take a day off?
What an adorable little park right next to FIDM (Fashion Institute of Design and Manufacturing). Definitely geared towards young children, with the playground, but plenty of soft grassy knolls for the rest of us.
This park does not allow dogs, even though most of the people who live in the area have dogs. If my 8 pound buddy can live in my nice apartment and not hurt anything, I think he'd be okay at an open grassy park.
It's a really pretty park, however, it's not dog friendly which, although it's understandable, it's a huge missed opportunity to have a neighborhood accessible area that could use part for pups.
It's a really pretty park, It's quiet but not quiet as silent, it's quiet enough to hear the breeze, the birds, and nature in general. It's a great place to enjoy time to yourself at.
It's a park in downtown that has a fence around it it's kept clean because the park is not open daily. It's used for private events.
Playground
It does have a nice playground.
The landscape is beautiful and the park is very clean. Lots of shaded areas and open green grass to relax on. No animals are allowed but that allows for the kids to run and have fun.
Great clean park to relax and take a break! Not to many people and great place to have a picnic and bring the kids to play. Very safe with security. Nice pics of downtown LA skyline.
Beautiful, open air park, perfect for families. Covid does make the security there antsy with how many people there are at the park at a given time but that's understandable.
This park has militant security that hover around trying to find anything out of the ordinary. Don't come here if you're thirsty, they have no operable drinking fountains.
Calm casual place to be around, although small one can enjoy the vivid metropolitan scenery. Despite of that, there's always noise of the busy people and traffic movement.
Good place for kids, plenty of place run and jump. Clean park as well. The only problem is parking. It’s always overcrowded in DTLA so it’s hard to find parking spots
Grate park for young children to play. I like how there are securitys, and i love how NO dogs are allowed or bike riding. It makes its safer and cleaner for my kids.
Beautiful park. V accessible. Lots of shaded seating.
Playground
It was empty, but seemed well maintained.
Picnic area
A couple of tables and benches.
This is a very nice park to visit. The security here is excellent and you can feel safe and enjoy the many events that take place here through out the year. …
Beautiful views, clean park and top notch security. A little bit of nature among the downtown skyline.
Playground
Safe and fun play area for your children.
Fidm students might hang out here during class breaks. In the mornings the playground is a gym. It's nice and quiet if you don't have any rude drivers passing by.
Very pleasant, peaceful and maintained park! I’ll def be back. I’m a nature girl so this hit the spot! I can’t wait to picnic out here!! …
Very cute well keep park. So peaceful, I was able to sit here for hours just observing everything going on around. I would love to come back here sometime
A quiet and comfortable refuge surrounded by the cacophony of Downtown Los Angeles. It’s like discovering a portal to a another time and place.
There are some tables but they don't allow you to sit there and eat you just can sit there on the bench or the grass, it's very quiet though.
Very nice clean quiet relaxing. With play area. But no swings. Which is a bummer if your baby is not walking yet. Besides that it is great.
Only thing this place is missing is a water feature like a fountain or pond. It's sort of a little Shangri La in the middle of the city!
Never knew it was here. Nice atmosphere, things for all ages, nice place to eat lunch or read a book. Bring a friend and sit and talk.
Small but clean lol I went there to bring food to the homeless but this park was clean. So I kept walking.
Picnic area
Grassy
A great place to catch some shade and a cool breeze.
Restrooms
Clean and up to date
Dog-friendliness
Bring you're pets
A really peaceful place in the middle of downtown. Very clean park with a lot of benches and lots of grass that's actually clean.
Nice calm park in the middle of downtown LA. Hopefully the water fixture is fixed soon. Lots of shaded areas and tree varieties.
Very pretty park, and it has a trail that goes through it. The water fountain was off, so it wasn't giving its ambiance.
Great city park. I love the water fountains. The pool with the steps is great. Always very clean and good security.
Quiet and not crowded place, at least when I was there. There is also a playground area for children and security.
Great place to walk my baby and myself. Shaded and cool and generally well occupied without being overly crowded.
Beautiful little park stuffed with stunning views of water, nature, flowers, people and "hope" ♂️ …
Quiet, peaceful and relaxing on weekday mornings. Great place for a quiet morning coffee or weekday lunch.
Public park with a playground but no public restroom? Who has designed this? That guy needs a promotion
#Sunny #perfect #family #day, #furday, #exercise, #jogging #afternoon at a #green and #clean #park
Beautiful park. It's really clean and seems really safe. The playground is really cute and clean.
Such a chill place to come and have a relaxed quick lunch or snack on a bench. Beautiful area.
We did a photo shoot here. It had some nice backgelrounds and wasnt too crowded on a Saturday
Very nice fountain. Very nice grass for laying on. I'd say this park has everything you need
Small park in DTLA but a really nice one. A lot of benches to sit on and really clean also.
No dogs rule not well enforced, lax security, no restrooms.
Picnic area
No tables.
Enjoy walking nice park, kids play swinging. Sometimes Dogs. Safe Gate metal fence. Safe
It's a small park with some minor workout equipment. The green space is well-maintained.
This is more like a rest stop then a park but it's cool other then no bathrooms..
No dogs are allowed and also there’s a lot of trash and urine stains everywhere
Very relaxing place to take a walk or take your little ones to the playground.
Park was well maintained, but shady people were lurking: had to keep on moving
Nice park in downtown L.A. if you are looking for a bench to eat a sandwich.
I love the calm and peaceful the park can be sometimes, just chill and relax
Great fenced in park downtown. Very safe, has security because of FIDM.
One of the last clean parks in DTLA. Nice spot. Great after 5pm.
It was looking bad then found the most tasting looking pastry
Great place to relax and enjoy the day and meditate
