H&R Block Newtown in 2023 is the picture of incompetence. From top to bottom. This branch, during this year's tax time, was complete bedlam. I've never seen anything like it. While waiting for an appointment on July 8th, I watched the manager, while he was serving another client, having to get up as many as four times to help another tax agent to do her job as she had no idea what she was doing. At the same time, the other tax agent that day couldn't complete her over the phone tax return during the allotted time and was on the verge of tears by the time the manager pressured her into ending her call with a seemingly enraged client. I was her next appointment. My experience of their service that day was being told that my tax debt to the ATO was in fact a tax REFUND for the same amount, and entering into an agreement to pay for H&R Block's services using a refund that didn't even exist. After a subsequent conversation with the manager to negotiate a discount on H&R Block's fees for this appalling service, the manager proceeded to do precisely nothing. In NOVEMBER, I began to receive emails demanding payment for the full outstanding fees. After eventually getting back into contact with the manager (who was apparently overseas), he was unapologetic and apathetic, and went on to negotiate a discount which was HALF the amount he had mentioned many months before, and this was after I had to follow up on these emails threatening to direct debit an outstanding fee which he was supposed to have discounted! He never apologised for failing to do this, either. This branch is a stain on the good reputation of H&R Block and should be avoided at all costs, and I'm genuinely saddened that so few clients felt the need to speak up about what they saw in this branch during tax time.

Second time I have used the services of HnR Newtown. I am impressed by the customer service and the way they conduct business. As someone who gets intimidated and confused by tax I wanted to take the time to personally thank Chee who for 2 years has now gotten me though the complexity of my personal and business (sole trader) returns. Chee is so professional, patient and most of all impressively knowledgeable - he has never one not known an answer off the top of his head. Chee is consistently helpful in our annual tax return. Very client-focused and caring - he would always advocate for the most tax deduction for us where possible. We have followed him to HR Block Newtown since we met him at the Riverwood branch many years ago. Highly recommending Chee because he is second to none in tax consultancy.

Exceptional service EVERY year. Last time Sabin was awesome, however Walid was brilliant today. Completed my tax return in under 10 minutes, and was polite, helpful and funny too. Well done, your service was impeccable as usual.

The manager is extremely loud and obnoxious, and he can come off as rude (as he did in our appointment). Also, he treats his staff very poorly and with little respect. The young receptionist was crying.

Strongly recommend manager Chee, Walid, Sabin! They are a fantastic team! Really informed and go the extra mile at every stage. Would recommend them unreservedly.

Offered no actual professional help/guidance with tax return. Better off following the prompts online and saving yourself $300+
