My husband and I rented a car for our garden route honeymoon for 8 days. Picking up the car was our first customer service interaction in South Africa and it was the worst one we had on the trip. What seemed to be the manager or supervisor was visibly rude to his own employees and not in the mood to assist us. It turned worse when he tried to upsell us his "special deal" insurance which was some numbers he scribbled on the back on a piece of paper. It felt very sleezy and not official at all. He got frustrated with us when we declined, saying we didn't understand what we were doing and tried using scare tactics to make us change our mind. Additionally, because we declined the insurance, the deposit was over R50,000. I've never had such a large deposit on a rental car. The experience was definitely not something I'd expect from a reputable company such as Hertz. Overall, the car was fine and we received the deposit back within a couple days upon return. All other employees we interacted with were very pleasant. Unfortunately we were very disappointed in the pickup experience with this one employee and I would not rent from them again.

My name is Sarahina, I'd like to make noise about my experience recently hiring a car. I had a problem completing my online booking and had to leave it halfway. A few minutes later, I got an email from Delise BELL who offered to assist me complete my booking. In no time, my reservation was done. A few days later, I had to make changes on my booking due to unforeseen circumstances. I contacted Delise who sorted it out seamlessly. I've never seen anyone who responds so quickly to queries and not only that, but resolves them in the same manner. It is such a joy to deal with a person like her, and as such, because of Delise I am a loyal Hertz customer. We need more Delises around. Thank you for your amazing service Delise.
Rented a vehicle from Hertz and returned it on the 19th of October. It is now the 18th of November and I have yet to receive my deposit back. I have called customer services three times, each time they assured my they will contact FNB to cancel the hold on my money but still no result. I have emailed their customer service and just got told that money can take up to 21 business days to be returned, but as I explained in my email (which they obviously didn't read) it has now been 21 days and I have not received the money. Their deposits on rental cars are extremely high at R15 000 and having that amount of money be unavailable to me is a massive inconvenience. Highly disappointed in their customer service.
We inadvertently left a wallet in the car that we returned to Hertz at Cape Town International. When we got home we weren’t sure where we had lost the wallet. On the off chance we phoned Hertz at 7:00pm on a Saturday evening, when it was pouring rain in CT We were lucky enough to be put through to Kayla Keziah who looked for and found our invoice, tracked our car down and arranged for our car to be searched the next day. As promised she contacted us the next day told us that our wallet had been found and was being kept in the safe until we could arrange for its return. I felt that this was truly exceptional service and my wife and I are very grateful to her and to Hertz.
The car was fine, as expected. The service....terrible! I paid a deposit (350 euro) before I took the car. I returned the car in perfect condition with a full tank of petrol, so I am entitled to have this returned. I have been in contact with them for 2 months now, and they have stopped replying to me. I wrote to them under a different email and were very quick to reply to me, but once they realised I was looking for my deposit, complete silence. I chose hertz as I thought they were a reputable company, I thought wrong. I will never use them again, and I will be sure to advise everyone I can to avoid Hertz at all costs!
I have been renting cars on different purposes on different locations around the world and I have to say that the experience I had with Justin has set a new standard in terms of customer care. We have been struggling to go through the check in process because of issues with our bank and spend few hours looking for solutions and all along this time Justin has remain not only polite and professional but really nice, sweet and truly helpful. This is experience has not only set what customer care feel like but represents how much South Africa is worth being considerate as one of the best places around the world to visit.
I love this company and their attentive service at large. Been a customer for many years since I only drive automatic cars. For some reasons I'm stuck with them. Out of many employees Wesley has been my go to but honestly others but I didn't get their names were so good like him. This last trip even when returning the car after seeing so much going on in our country, I was like yes this the South Africa I know . I received so much respect and attention. We're and stil have good loving ppl in this country. If you do this to all tourists, I'm definitely SA will never fall. Thank you again. Much love and respect
The staff are friendly, service is quick and Granwil has been so accommodating when we have changed requests or arrived early before the car has been put in the bay. The returns staff are also efficient and the whole process from beginning to end is painless. When it is pouring with rain (which it has done lately) there is always a friendly security staff member on standby with an umbrella. Thank you Hertz - we have enjoyed building a relationship with you over the year and thank you to Granwil for helping us with our end of year bookings.
my service at Cape Town airport was shocking. The car was brand new (250 km) but had a crack in the front windscreen which fortunately my wife saw. . I was hopelessly overcharged for the car. R6000 for 6 days. I drove 200 kilometers= R30 per kilometer. When I returned the car I could not find the return drop off office so stopped at Bay 16 where I collected the car. There was NOBODY on duty, nor could I find anybody to help me. Eventually I had no option but to leave the car there and go. My flight was CLOSED when I got to departures.
We were charged more than what we were quoted when we collected the car with the supposed terms and conditions of the additional charges not mentioned when booking. They have now deducted the deposit from the credit card with no communication as to why they have done so. No one responds to the several emails sent. When we arrived at the airport to collect the car at 21:25 the guy who helped was really not very helpful and we were not able to check the car. There is no reason I would use them again or recommend them.

We rented a car in advance When we came to the pickup we got a car full of scratches – almost everywhere. The car was old and did not have basic finish such as screen (to connect to smartphone) etc. The car was with very small engine ( with regard to the size of the car) and where almost unable to accelerate in order to pass slow vehicle

Being a gold member for years using the airport to rent a car at Hertz - never saw my name on the club Gold members screen or been feel teated like one and need to Wait every time before i can leave. Twice was given damage cars which I have to walk back to the office to ask for exchange Not good service at all

Super quick pick up and return and well maintained car. You get it with a full tank and have to return it the same. There's a fuel pump right next to the drop off area so it's easy to top up.
