Probably my favorite place to hang out for a couple of beers in all of Seattle. I live around the corner and the Hillside is the neighborhood's living room. Awesome staff, friendly regulars, fun place to watch the Hawks (the TV situation isn't completely ideal as it's not a sports bar, but the experience is awesome just the same - the place is always packed and somebody always brings in some sort of spread for the crowd to eat). No food except for small pizzas from SODO Pizza (which are actually quite good) but you can bring in food ordered elsewhere. A real sense of community exists here.
The first bar I tried in Seattle after flying in from Baltimore. Jasmine was welcoming and gave me a nice pour of Evan Williams (surprisingly smooth, who knew). The clientele are friendly and down to earth. This place has a great overall vibe. Reasonable prices during happy hour, good draft selection and nicely laid out pool room and table. Stairs to 2nd floor dump you out near where darts fly so keep your eyes open. Highly recommend!

Jaw-droppingly rude bartender. I came in sober and polite, and made a dumb joke about Rainer beer. She went off the rails and was bizarrely rude to me and my date for about 5 minutes straight. We tried to apologize repeatedly, but she stared us down like a crazy person. So odd. I assume that she was reacting to some recent personal tragedy or that maybe she was off-meds? Rachel or something like that. She was on shift October 16 at around 10pm. She also claimed to own the bar, which would surprise me.
I loved the bartender. He was very polite and welcoming. I had a rough day traveling to Seattle, then with my vehicle. After ordering pizza from next door (aaaammmaaazzzaing) then having a pbr on draft my worries subsided and I felt I could continue to overcome whatever Seattle could bring my way. I'd recommend this join to anyone, especially ones with a dog. The customer is rad, the atmosphere is welcoming and they had about 10 + beers on draft. Two thumbs up on the prices too!!
Like the bar tenders a lot, the layout is awkward, but its been like that since it was the previous bar. They have pinball, big buck hunter, *horrible* dart boards, skee ball, pool, a cute sitting area nook. Great selection of booze and beer on tap, as well as bottles and cans of beers/ciders! No food menu with the exception of pizzas they have and peanuts but they allow outside food, so venture that corridor, there's some amazing food within walking distance!
What a great place! I wish I was there now. Found the referral on Beer Advocate for a place to get a craft beer not too far from the REI Camping Store. Service was great as well as the folks around the bar. I even got offered and gladly received a bag of whole bean single-origin roast from a patron. It was unbelievable, as if I was having a pleasant dream. Check out their web page for a list of offerings; I had the dark cherry cider.
Seemed really nice with nice reviews but they don’t take international ids which is not written on the window/door and feels kinda xenophobic (didn’t have this problem in other bars in Seattle). They won’t accept pictures of passports either. Waiter wasn’t particularly nice about it, as if it’s our fault we’re not american.. please write it on the window/ in description in Google.
This is a fine place to go hang out with friends - it's never too crowded. It's a little divey, but their whiskey selection is surprisingly good for such a hole in the wall place. I've ended up here when other places were full and never regretted it, although the seating in their downstairs area is a pretty uncomfortable, it's still manageable.
Walked over to Hillside in search for a dartboard. The friendly bartender let us use the good darts behind the bar and was extremely helpful. Beers were good - porter and blonde and darts were fantastic. Chill environment that really never got busy but always somehow managed to have a plethora of different characters in it.
Fun bar with a chill vibe. They've got darts, pool, skeeball, and pinball. Solid drinks and cool bartenders. The only downside is that in the ladies bathroom, the stalls have curtains instead of doors. Not a deal breaker, but definitely less than ideal. Other than that though, great place to chill with some friends!
Came in a very bad mood that was not only alleviated but graced with a decent whisky selection, the good company of fellow patrons and the antics of the bartender of I dubbed "Squirrel" but I believe her name was Sophie. all in all a very solid bar not only for cap hill but for Seattle in general.
Facts about Hillside bar. The bartenders are some of the kindest humans you will encounter. The drinks are delicious, and there are many options to choose from. There are many places to sit. They have big buck hunter, and a pool table. There are two bathrooms.
Quick bar service paired with clean bathrooms and plenty of space to grab a drink with friends. Some call it a dive bar, but don't let throw you. It's simple, offers good beers without a crazy markup, and make for a great place to enjoy a drink
I love the hillside- it has a few different spaces (back room with couches, upstairs game room, pool area, bar) and the bartenders are great. It's everything a bar should be, cheap and stiff drinks, fun community, doesnt take itself seriously.
Love this bar...but can't seem to get ahold of them to make a reservation to go back. The website and phone number are both not working...Update: the website is back yay! Still no luck with the phone number or website forms yet.
One of my favorite bars in Seattle, and the owner/staff are all awesome. Good location at Denny/Olive away from the crowded area of Pike/Pine in Cap Hill. Has pool table, juke box, a couple pinball machines and darts upstairs.
Im a regular on this block. Ownersand drinks are great! If theres a sporting event, on a Sunday, thry incourage folks to bring food for the group! Crock pots full of goodness! Owner and his wife are just like one of the gang!
There's a comfort level here, it's plane jane but plenty ok. Bartenders I've seen have been overly friendly every time. It feels clean too. Like this for just a casual beer , exactly what came for, happy hour 4-6 every day.
Friendly and communicative atmosphere with a feel of midwest comfort but in Capital Hill. Pool table, darts, a place to meet w friends, family and meet new friends. Order food from Revolver and eat there. Will go back.
Local public capitol hill dive bar. Big space and good for groups. Great beer selection, wine, liquor. Pool table and two levels for seating. Allows outside food. Two large tvs for sports watching.
Cozy neighborhood bar that has a little something for everyone. Pool, darts, and pinball. We came because we were craving some skee-ball, and stayed for the cheap, strong drinks. Had a great time.
This is the hometown bar, come here if you are looking to be greeted by everyone by name. Alexis is the best!

The smell of urine smacks you in the face when you walk in. It's really bad. Only positives is that there's a pool table and you can play music even though you have to pay.
This place is a ZERO. Hated it. A long hair hippy type girlie-man tried playing traffic cop on me. I put him in his place. I WOULD NOT recommend this place for anyone.
Great place. East coast vibes and atmosphere where the seattle freeze is just a myth. Drinks are poured great and everyone is so friendly and open to talking.
Great pool spot, solid regulars, cheap drinks, nice bartenders. Gets a little busy some nights if you want table time but it's a fun group to play with.
Fairly chill place, went late afternoon. Bartender has a good grasp of all drinks and their tastes on tap.

Bartenders were super friendly and not crowded for a Saturday night. We loved that they had darts and we enjoyed the pinball and skeet ball too.
Great drinks, reasonable prices, and terrific staff who always make you feel welcome. I always enjoy stopping at the Hillside when in Seattle.

What an awesome little spot. Quirky layout, friendly staff, and mellow regulars. A great stop if you're bar hopping this area.
This place is a good place to make friends who become family!! I’ve met lots of veterans here and I’ve never had a bad time!!
Awesome bar. Free peanuts, lots of taps, has a pool table, juke box, dart board, ski ball, and a couple pinball machines.
Good place to have some cocktails with friends. The bar has mostly whiskey based cocktails and a pool table to play.
Grungy place, good drink options, pool table, friendly service. There were plenty of people but not too populated.
I accidentally stumbled in on their 10 year anniversary and guess what I found. Free tacos! Bartenders are on it!
If you get a high enough score on the Skiball, the machine will spit you out a coupon for a buy-one-get-one beer!
Cool atmosphere...can be a bit of a douchetrap on Friday and Saturday nights, but that is not the bar's fault.
Really nice dive bar. Very chill vibes, tv, pool table, pin ball, friendly to all. Would absolutely recommend
great bar, great vibes! the owner is amazing, the staff is great and attentive and always a great atmosphere.
Hypocrite staff, wasted gas traveling to a bar that left a bad taste in my mouth. I will never come back.

I love that one bartender. That scary one from monsters inc. Randall? Not so frightening behind the bar.
Was very warm in there even with doors open and fans on. But they had NA beer and $1 pool so it's cool.
One of my favorite spots on the hill. They pour nice and heavy, pool table, darts, pinball and peanuts.
Solid institution on cap hill in seattle. Classic dive bar with unpretentious decor and nice staff.
Wish they had more pinball machines LOL pretty big spot for the location and we had a lot of fun!
Cool bar with nice pool tables, awesome happy hour times and prices. Atmosphere is pretty chill.
We had a terrible experience with the male bartender with long, dark hair. Won't be coming back.
Good ole dive with pinball skeeball and pool, these folks rad, tons of draft beer, good hang.
Cheap, stiff drinks, big TVs, enjoyable atmosphere, and great service. Definitely recommend!
Great beer selection and attentive bartender! There are games and table seating available!
Love the atmosphere. A great place to unwind with great drinks and friendly bartenders!
If you're looking for a great local spot that has great staff you can't do much better.
Good crowd, fun atmosphere. Plus darts, which is surprisingly hard to find in this city
My favorite bar on Cap Hill. Great drinks, great atmosphere and always friendly faces.

Bar staff is friendly, regulars are numerous, pool is free on sundays!
One of the best dive bars left on the hill. Pinball, pool, and darts!
