I've always enjoyed visits to Hugo's and my much anticipated visit on Saturday with friends to the new terrace for outdoor dining most certainly didn't disappoint! The welcome and service provided by Justin and the team were fantastic. Nothing was too much trouble and as for the food - well! We started with the Gin Cured Kilmore Quay Salmon with Castletownbere Crab and the Sharing Board for Two, both of which were lovely. The sharing board in particular was great - we couldn't help going back for more. Despite another diner recommending the John Dory, we all chose the 10oz Hereford Prime Ribeye of Beef, with bourguignon garnish, watercress and skinny fries. It was quite simply delicious. And the wines - a lovely selection. I can't remember now which we eventually ordered (we tasted a few!), but they were lovely. I'm not a dessert person, but even if I was, I would have struggled to order dessert (I refer to the constant picking at the sharing board!) The whole ambiance was just fantastic. We had blankets provided, which we thankfully didn't need. Every table had a little bottle of sanitiser, a little solar powered lantern and extra cushions were available if required. Screening has been installed to protect diners from the elements and the noise from traffic (which is already greatly reduced but hopefully will be non existent in the future) and window boxes have been planted with herbs. It's all just gorgeous. Gina and the rest of the BOOMRs have done a fantastic job in creating such a lovely space. I've always loved Merrion Row - I love it even more now because of this. My one gripe - I forgot to take photos of the food to share. I guess I'll just have to go back and try the John Dory!

Never again! We went for a Christmas Lunch here that was worse than mediocre. The menu was limited and had no prices listed. The final bill for 2 courses for 2 people, 2 glases of wine, 2 coffees was €124. The mains: cod with, supposedly, cassoulet, was a small piece of cod with undercooked white beans, with no flavour. Even a trainee chef knows that is NOT cassoulet...When we mentioned the tasteless crunchy beans to the waitron, he said he would let the chef know!!! Never again. The food is too poor and the prices too eyewateringly high. LAST experience was better, but not enough to make me change my mind. We had a classy dinner here, with delicious food, beautifully served. The prices have soared since the last time we were here, but the quality remains the same. Portions are delicate. The Irish tend to be loud when out on the town. The restaurant was crowded and the noise level turned conversation into shouting. No precautions re Covid in place, and the waiters kept lifting our glasses to refill them, with no evidence of santized hands. And the chef knows best about how you like your food cooked; hate that, when you're paying for the service and know what you like yourself.

Was here last Friday, service was excellent - prompt and interactive. I’ve been here before a couple of times and food has always been good, however it wasn’t upto the mark this time - I had scallops to start - two scallops in the dish at €20 and the dish was not balanced, lacking flavour - scallops were tiny but cooked perfectly, my friend had salmon, mentioned it was ok. I had lamb for my main course and it was excellent, cooked to perfection, my friend had the pork chop and it looked unappetising- very pale and the whole layer of fat was not cooked at all, so the dish lacked flavour. Overall while the atmosphere was nice, food was only ok and at almost €200 for two without desserts, I think it’s too overpriced and there are many other substantially better options in Dublin.

Reception Manager (Susan) and the waiting staff were friendly and professional and the restaurant is a beautiful venue. However, the food was a huge disappointment and the restaurant was freezing, not cold, freezing. My crispy pork belly was like a piece of old leather and my companions short rib beef was poor in taste and quality. My other companion had the soup and market fish (cod) and he was very satisfied. They brought us a blow heater when we complained about the cold. Ironically, the Albariño was not chilled!! Sadly for the staff I would not return unless they acquired a chef who cared.

I had the pleasure of meeting friends in Hugo’s last night and was very impressed with the food & service. Gina has a unique “Hands On approach “ to looking after everyone & everything which adds to the experience. Michael Kennedy was the host of our evening and he was also very impressed with Hugo’s and the Ireland win over the All Black’s accelerated the energy in the restaurant. UK TV personality Bobby Davro was also in the restaurant and he brought laughter to many . Thank you Gina…It was my first time in Hugo’s but it will not be my last. One of the best restaurants in all of Dublin! Whenever I am in town I always stop by and the food is always great and the service is consistent (even when busy). I have been doing Christmas Eve here for the last 3 years and it has been fabulous ever year. The menu has something for everyone & they are very good with dietary restrictions. The selection of wine is something special (and rather unique) in Dublin. All in all, this is my favorite restaurant in Dublin that never disappoints! I always recommend anyone visiting Dublin to dine here or Bang (which is right across the street).

Oh my goodness I loved Hugo's. This was my first visit. My friend booked a window seat and on a beautiful hot summer day in Dublin city we ate beautiful food and watched the world go by. I arrived early and requested a seat move as we had been allocated high stools. I'm post spinal surgery so the front of house man moved me to a more comfortable seat which made a huge difference to my comfort levels. I ordered from the pre-theatre menu and it was delicious. Topped off with smiley ultra professional service it made a perfect evening for a catch up with my friend. HIGHLY recommended.

  • Catarina Dias

The place itself is very quaint. The atmosphere is very intimate. The service is friendly and helpful, and make it an overall good experience. We had one of the specials for the evening, a rosbif with roasted potatoes and salad with a side of broccoli. The meat was cooked to perfection, and the potatoes were really nice and crisp. The brought some homemade bread and butter while we waited, and the Guinness bread was delicious. Overall a good food experience, totally recommend it.

Delightfully old fashioned, nostalgic decor and very welcoming and comfortable, love the banquette seating. It was difficult making a choice from the menu, I had chicken liver parfait on brioche followed by agnoletti with baked celeriac. So delicious and I managed a small mouthful of my companion's divine mango and coconut panna cotta. Lovely attentive staff, will definitely return.

So good we went back two days after our first meal. Jonathan was delightful. Both Sara and Sarah waited table and chatted with us like old friends. and the food. Wow. The food. Wonderful preparation complemented by presentation. We had daube of beef the first night. Tender enough not to need a knife. Full of flavor. Goat cheese salad was frsh and crisp. Also I had a sirloin cooked exactly medium rare and Peggy had gnocchi. We would be eating there every week if we didn't have to go back home. Reservations a good idea.

Had a delicious Christmas late lunch with a small group here and it was the best meal I’ve had all year. Staff very attentive, prompt and friendly. For those who are covid conscious, they are very compliant in this regard so you will feel at ease. Do double check your bill when you get it though. The total merges a 12.5% discretional tip- I didn't look closely enough and ended up tipping twice and this was not pointed out to me. Have seen this in places like London before but first time I have seen this in Dublin.

Absolutely wonderful restaurant. The food is amazing (the orange whiskey marmalade cake will take your taste buds to a new plane of existence), the atmosphere is delightful, and the staff is incredibly warm, friendly, and helpful, and they know their wines well! We were there late May 2022 and went back on the last day of our trip for a 2nd visit because it was that good. Can't recommend it enough. Just don't go when we're going so that we can get a seat! Thank you Hugo's for 2 wonderful evenings of dining!

  • Hayley Mortensen

Honestly, it makes me sad to rate Hugo’s this way but it’s reflective of the experience we had. The food was delicious, but the service was extremely poor. We had to ask for anything and everything we needed, and our server seemed to genuinely forget we were there. The table we were promised got given to another party while we were waiting for it, our wine order and food orders both got lost and we ended up sitting with nothing in front of us for an hour.

We had an absolutely amazing meal for our wedding day downstairs at Hugos in December on their busiest day! From the moment we went to try the menu they were amazing to us, the food is delicious and the care and attention from staff is perfect. My 6 year old nephew came to the wedding and they served his meal first which was SO appreciated, the whole experience was amazing and we can’t wait to go back, thanks to all the staff @Hugo’s for making our day so special!

Excellent quality, good and dedicated service both when dining and during the booking process - this was a work related dinner event and attendees were not certain till last minute. We enjoyed a great evening, the dining room is perfect for conversation over dinner, and all the guests found the food standard to their liking. Not an easy task since all the guests were in Dublin visiting from several different countries.

  • alberto frasarin

Unfortunately the cooks made several mistakes and repeatedly prepared dishes not in line with the orders, including a very dangerous lack of attention related to a severe food allergy. No managers stepped up to excuse themselves or to take care of us in any way. Hopefully just an unfortunate day for the equipe, but more attention is definitely needed, as the expectations are much higher than the experience we had.

  • David D

Went for lunch without a booking and luckily got a table. Excellent service by the staff from start to finish and the lunch menu was amazing. Didn't go for starters but they sounded delicious. The mains I had their ribeye and my wife had the fillet of seabream which both were to die for. Definetely reccommend Hugos its run extremely well , food is great and I will be most certainly coming back again. Well done.

Exceptional service followed by incredible food. Very much enjoyed our recent visit. They treated our daughter very well. The only downside was the music. The smooth jazz was reminiscent of music played on commercial break during a TV talk show.

Great looking restaurant with delicious food. It doesn't come cheap, but it's worth it. They serve a great steak and the fish dishes are very good as well. Large selection of wine. Would have loved to give Hugo's a 5* rating, but unfortunately the service let us down: dishes were brought out very late and it took 10 minutes to get the waiter's attention when we wanted another bottle of table water.

  • Adam Almagro

Came for the early bird menu with a few colleagues in a team out. Lovely food, very competent service in a very relaxed environment. The restaurant is not very big, and feels quite intimate (not very loud and you can easily have a conversation). The whipped goats cheese starter was excellent. Menu could be a little bit more creative, but a solid overall experience for traditional food in the city.

One day I saw Dave Grohl (Foo Fighters) coming in and I felt curious, "it has to be a nice restaurant" - I thought. I was right. The food was delicious, we got a 3 course meal and we were super satisfied with the quality and the portions. Loads of wines to choose from and the staff were super attentive and friendly. I'd come back, cosy place. Lovely for a date or even a casual dinner.

  • Bob Hall

Absolutely superb meal and libations. The service was also excellent and attentive. Music and sound levels provided the ability to easily converse. My steak was cooked as requested, medium rare. The mushrooms were very flavorful and the eggplant was flavored from the meat. Dublin should be proud of this establishment. I’ll be back.

Kudos to Gina and the team at Hugo’s. We needed a late lunch reservation (late due to a family event) and Gina went out of her way to accommodate us. We had an excellent lunch in very pleasant surroundings having been made very welcome. The waiting staff were knowledgeable and courteous, and the whole experience was memorable. We will be back!

Our 1st post lockdown night out and what a fabulous night it was. We were made to feel safe, secure and well fed!! The food was delicious, the atmosphere amazing (great tunes) and all the staff were well versed in safety and hygiene proceedures. Justin (our beautiful, witty waiter) was superb. Well done to all in Hugo's - can't wait to return.

A great experience, a warm welcome. Food was as good as any I have eaten , the best oysters and scallops. The tartiflette side dish a must. Crispy potatoes to die for, strip loin like butter, short rib deep with flavour. The cod perfectly cooked with a fine sauce. One of my top meals ever.

Disappointing. Not enough variety. And no idea of provenance. (Stone bass? ) Several of us ended up ordering 2 starters. (Salmon in chowder?) Wine list bizarre and unrecognisable. Cold tiny cheese plate...more crackers and fruit than cheese! Very professional. Very sharp but....very pricey for the offering.

Very nice staff and atmosphere. Great location, close to... Well, everything. Food tasty and steak well cooked. Food took too long to be served, 30min from ordering for the mains and 20 mins for desserts. Too expensive for what you get - a sirloin with a side is more than 35eur.

Spectacular. Truly spectacular. From the cheeks, to the wine list, to the duck (oh the duck) this is by far the best meal we had in Dublin during a long trip. You must go if you are lucky enough to get a rez!

Lovely warm welcome, amazing staff, all so pleasant and helpful, restaurant full of atmosphere. Excellent seasonal menu, delicious turkey roulade and very affordable wine list. Thank you, we'll be back soon.

Lovely atmosphere, great menu options and wine list. On booking, we were asked for the table back after 2 hours but they didn't bother or rush us out the door even though it was busy. I'll definitely return

Lovely food. Evening meal for two for our anniversary. Lots of good pubs nearby. Husband said it was the best steak he ever had. He loves his steak and never saw him so happy with a dish. Would return .

Had a great dinner of gnocchi, tomato and onion soup. The service was outstanding, and the food was even better! We showed up late, but they were very accommodating and squeezed us in. Highly recommend!

Hugo's Restaurant is a great place for dinner. I enjoyed the best scallops I have ever ate along with án Irish steak cooked to perfection and an amazing chocolate, carmel and ice cream desert.

Evening ruined by a large crowd that were shouting and singing for about 3 hours - management did little to stop them. Long wait for food. Food was good quality and waitress very charming.
