Making this gym a 24/7 one was a game changer. I switched to this gym after my other local gym seems to have closed down permanently due to lockdowns. Because I like to get my workout first thing in the morning, before the 24/7 regime I would go for 6am workouts. However, even at the earliest hours it would get quite crowded for weight lifting gear(I tend to focus on core compound lifts) and sometimes you would either have to wait for a squat rack or a bench press. Moreover, if you left the gym at 7:30am, you could get into quite a horrible morning commuter traffic as the gym is literally next to one of the main Leeds' traffic arteries. But when they finally were allowed to operate a 24/7 regime, it has been nothing but a godsend. I can now workout at a convenient time for me and get more lifts in without having to wait around for desired equipment. In terms of weightlifting equipment, this gym has got 4 squat racks, 3 deadlift platforms and 4 bench press platforms(excluding inclined and declined ones which are 2x each). Plenty and a good variety of machines and of course a ton of cardio tracks and bikes. I have also noticed that staff to tend to re-rack the plates and dumbbells whenever the gym is not too busy, it's definitely a much better situation than one of the other PureGym facilities that I used to go to. My subscription fee is around ~£20 a month. In a nutshell, this gym is a freaking bargain due to the fact that it operates 24/7, has good and various weightlifting equipment available and only costs ~£20 a month.
I am currently and have been a member previously of this gym, on and off, for approximately 2 years due to changing work patterns and locations. The gym itself is good, with modern equipment and good space and areas to work out. Unfortunately, there are rarely members of staff walking around the gym or at the reception desk for you to ask for help or advice. I've often seen people stood waiting at the reception desk only to give up and walk away because there is simply no staff on hand. Im certain the gym does not operate or oversee the capacity of the gym. At 9-930 AM (which isn't even a peak time), the gym is at normal capacity. This isn't reassuring considering the current climate involving Covid-19. The capacity anywhere between 6-9pm is just short of overflowing with waiting times between 10-15 minutes on some equipments/machines/work out areas depending on the person operating it at the time. The group gym classes offer limited classes for each exercise. For example, there is only 1 body combat class in the evening and 2 in the mornings. The evening class again is extremely busy and JD gyms do not operate a booking system which, again,is a concern. I feel that if the above flaws are all avoidable and it is foreseeable that resources could be put into place and if controlled, regulated and maintained JD Gyms South Leeds has potential to be rated a Good gym amongst its competitors
This is a good gym with a lot of equipment and I do enjoy the facilities, however I’ve found the fact that machines break and take long to be fixed, and the cleanliness of the gym floor a bit problematic recently. This is a very busy gym so I feel that taking 6 weeks to fix a piece of equipment is letting the members down. I visit this gym 5 days a week and expect to be able to follow my workout plan using the equipment available in the gym. There are currently 4 machines that I use that are out of action which is problematic when there is only one of a certain machine or piece of equipment in the gym. For example, the lying leg curl cable machine has been out of action for 6 weeks now, and the Roman chair has lost its adjustment dial so I cannot use it as it’s too long for my short legs. This past week the one cable leg extension machine and one of the two lat pull down machines (a machine that I often have to wait for in normal circumstances) was broken. How long will it take to fix this? My other criticism of this gym is the cleanliness. I know it must be difficult to keep it clean, but there is always hair on the floor or on the mats in the stretch area which is quite gross. I don’t think your Henry hoover is doing a good job here, or the staff are not using it often enough.
Decent gym, very well equipped at a reasonable price - my only complaints would be around how the classes are scheduled and run. The car park gets really busy on an evening when there are a few classes on at once. They often run classes back to back which takes up space that regular gym goers need. I'm happy to plan my workout around the classes using the timetable but when there's two back to back classes in the Burn studio and the first one runs over it's impossible! Also prep for classes is done far too early - last week they hid the sled handles in preparation for a crossfit class that wasn't due to start for another 15 minutes. I can be done with my sled work in 7 but the staff didn't try to accommodate that. I don't think they always think properly about where they're setting up classes - one of them takes place by the rig and I've got a group of people holding hands jumping backwards and forwards onto the sled track - very dangerous - almost ran a guy over!
Been a member since it opened was a decent gym.. but for the past year they are not really bothered about machines working or not. I do alot of cardio treadmil and cross trainer. Most of the treadmil show wrong figures of how many calories u have burned etc. 5mins on treadmil shows I've burned 300 calories maybe more sometimes and done like 6miles and that's with most of the tredmils.. i think they need servicing or something' same with the cross trainers. U could be onit for 10mins and while still using it. It turns off and that's with most of them again. In summer no ac was on was boiling in the gym. And winter gyms very cold. The music either always to loud or to low with stupid songs playing like rock music. Music should he decent at the gym to keep u going but not at this gym.
This is a gym I looking forward to exercising in. Plenty of well maintained equipment for both cardio and weight training. 3 different studios for classes (of which I'm yet to sample). Personal trainers are available as well (not sure on charges yet but when my fitness level is higher I will be finding out). The changing rooms are nice and spacious with lockers, showers and sauna (not sure if this is available at the moment due to covid). The gym has prepared well for the current distancing rules with sanitiser dotted around, cleaning stations for equipment and space between equipment. There is also a lot of parking outside but this does get full at busy times but there are roads around for over flow. There are also charging spaces for electric cars.
The reception desk is very poorly managed. And the staff at the reception were very ill mannered and rude. Despite being stood there for five minutes trying to get their attention none of them acknowledged me despite looking at me From the room. When they did decide to come out they walked straight pass and said they will be back in a minute which again didn't happen. The chest press machine is squeaky and so are some of the leg machine's. Was extremely busy and hard to get onto any of the machines. Showers a mess absolute disgrace. Wouldn't recommend to anyone as no doubt would cause embarrassment. Management got to get things in order.
I cannot emphasize enough the exceptional cleanliness at JD Gym Leeds South. The facilities are pristine, and the staff goes above and beyond to maintain a high standard of hygiene. The gym offers a wide range of modern equipment, including cardio machines, strength training gear, and group class options. The staff is friendly, knowledgeable, and always available to assist. With a diverse class schedule and flexible membership options, JD Gyms provides an outstanding fitness experience. If you prioritize cleanliness and a great workout environment, this gym is an absolute must-try!
JD gym is undoubtedly the best chain gym. There is a range of equipment and the facilities are very good for the price. There are a lot of machines available and the space in the gym is very large, which is excellent, particularly during busy times. The staff are quite obnoxious and rude, which is a shame considering everything else is good. That's not to say all the staff are bad, many are good, however there are some rude staff who think they're God's gift to the world. A truly awful display of behaviour towards customers.
Been a member of this gym for a couple of years now, moved to JD from pure gym. Recently I have been really disappointed with the staff and cleanliness. More than a few occasions in the ladies changing rooms the sanitary bins have been over flowing! No toilet roll, seats broken and no hand wash. All of the staff seem to be stood at the desk chatting away, when they could be cleaning the machines, changing rooms or putting weights away. The gym equipment and facilities are great here but the cleanliness really lets it down.
Used to really love this gym before the massive surge of new members…great equipment but people can’t seem to put away weights/equipment after using them, making it a hassle to use and also super inconsiderate towards the gym members. People park at the front of the gym,in EV and disabled bays when they aren’t blue badge holders, when there’s plenty of empty bays just lazy. Every time I’m in on an evening the male toilets stink the whole gym out and the culprit tries masking it with lynx- Doesn’t help.
Getting so busy it's nearly impossible to do any kind of decent routine, as you are waiting so long for equipment. Ended up having to leave mid workout today due to the volume of the music coming from one of the classes. Couldn't even hear each other shouting, there's no need for it to be that loud, and it's all in the same room so can't get away from it. Moved from PureGym hunslet and used to be a regular gym goer but I'm finding I can't workout properly here, so considering cancelling.
Not brilliant just ok, half the equipment in there is broke half the time and either takes a fortnight to be repaired or never gets repaired at all, the leg press doesn't have its own set of plates so you have to run half way across the gym if you want to put a decent weight on it, and there's a calf press where someone has broken the height adjustment lever and they've just chose to never repair it, it's been broke for well over two months now not impressed at all.
Its ok here. Toilets and changing rooms need more care and attention and they really need to manage the parking situation. People park anywhere they like including the wheelchair accessible bays without displaying a badge. Imagine being so lazy and entitled that you drive to the gym and park in a bay designed for people who are less abled than you because you are too lazy to walk the extra 20 meters to walk to a place you exercise. Blows my mind.
Ended up paying £54 for only one month of access because of misinformation from the instructor who told me to wait closer to the end of the month to cancel. £32 for the first month and another £22 for a second month I didn’t benefit from. Customer support was unwilling to refund the second payment. They should add a one time payment option for people who are just visiting. Next time I will look for another gym to join.
Absolute sham Came here because I thought north was a total train wreck but everything touch in here Is broke. Faaaar too dark AND the benches in free weights area are that tight together u might as well stack them on top of each other .everything so randomly placed ....I can't even remember seeing any squat racks .. very dissapointed to say the least ....I'll stick to north thanks.
The gym is large, lots of parking and is 24 hours. lots of quality equipment too. the problem is they have too many members. I go at 5.15am (yep AM) and I still don't get my first choice of equipment, some days I leave having not used what id gone there to use. anytime after 6am is just too busy with people queuing for equipment. great gym but I wouldn't recommend joining
Best gym I've been a member of by far! It's got loads of equipment that's maintainedand kept in great condition, can always get on something, a great selection of classes that cater for all people. The staff are very helpful. Can not fault this place at all! And the membership price is very good value as well! 10 out of 10! I highly recommend!
First time at the venue, wasn't really impressed by the lack of Trainers, just told to read the instructions on the equipment, was quite dark in there so struggled to see the instructions, hopefully on my next visit there will be some instructors to give us the time of day instead of been on there mobile at the reception area …
Started going here when it originally opened and it’s gone down hill since the start of this year, it’s manic regardless of the time you go, even 9pm on weekends it’s full and having to wait, members are lazy and inconsiderate, don’t re-rack weights/plates, park all over the place and staff are just as bad not tidying up the gym
Great new place. Clean, new and now open 24hrs. But I prefer the more traditional rugged rough and ready style gyms plus i found here that the benches for the free weights are all lined and far too close together that you cant do dumbbell flies without knocking somebody out lol other than that id say few more squat racks.
Great gym with lots of options, just wish they had a few more of some of the weights machines. They have saunas in the changing rooms which is nice. If you need a padlock for the locker they sell them in a vending machine. They also sell little towels if you sweat a lot, and you might as it's quite warm in there
Disappointed in the tips your representatives are giving my partner teaching her how to incorrectly sqaut and tell her the way I taught her how to sqaut is incorrect I've been sqautting before you guys were even open ....appreciate that your p.ts know what there talking about if there going spread information .
Reasonably priced, spacious with lots of equipment, friendly staff and never too busy. Everything you want in a gym. My only criticism is of their opening hours. Their hours have definitely improved since they opened, but they could be better. 24/7 would be ideal. Update - They've gone 24/7. Brilliant.
Wish it would open later... Just so busy so my gun session is always about looking around seeing what I can do next. I don't have a routine as much as maybe others do but if I did... I would be there ages waiting for machines to be available... The staff and gym itself it great!!! Just needs to be 24/7
The facilities are great but there are just too many people. Once I had to do 5 circles around the building to park the car. There was a traffic jam of gym-goers trying to find a space! 24hr access would resolve this issue as I don't mind working out at weird times.
Really great value gym. Very spacious, loads of equipment. Great functional fitness area. Lots of parking tho at peak times even that is not enough. Would be even better if it had a self serve coffee /juice area but I get that it's not part of the low cost model.
Any company who takes over 10 days to make a call back and then still hasnt done it deserves negative reviews. Appauling. Dont return calls, send emails from inactive inboxes. I would make a complaint but nobody actually seems to be there to make one to. Shambles
Great gym where everyone just gets on with their thing. Plenty of machines and equipment I haven't waited more than five minutes before for a specific one. Staff are great and helpful. Can just get very busy is my only issue, but that can be said for all gyms.
Been going here regularly for over a month now. What an amazing gym! It's quite large, the crowd in here is nice, and there is plenty of air con. It's clean, modern, and plenty of machines for your liking. They have showers and plenty of locker space too!
So easy to join without the usual induction faff. Classes are great with loads of choice. Gym has loads of modern kit. Only gym I’ve been to where your not hanging around for a spare bench. They have loads! Pretty sure JD will take over the gym world.
I’ve been using this gym around 4 months now, over the years I’ve used various gyms and JD Gyms has been my favourite by far. Really nice atmosphere inside, nice and clean and large changing rooms. It’s nice seeing the equipment get maintained too.
I do not recommend this gym. Too many members and its always too busy there. Air conditioner is switched off or on very low, its boiling there!! Just one hand sanitiser for the hole gym. I left this gym with my friends and it was the best decision
I come at 4 o'clock in the morning 4 times a week and normally loads of dum bells just left on the floor around the benches and the string machines accessories need replacing as there worn out don't no why the staff aren't sorting this stuff out
Almost great. The gym floor has great equipment, best I've seen. All the usual suspects, plus others I've not seen before such as dedicated deadlift stations and static tyre flip. Nice showers and a sauna, all for £16 per month! (Increasing
Well equipped gym. Easy to get to. It gets too busy after 5pm weekdays. To the point of ridiculous. I like to get in there, train hard and get out. So when it's so busy that you're waiting around for equipment, I find that a little
The hand foam smells really nice. Probably one of the nicest smelling hand foams in any gym I've visited. It's citrus smelling with a hint of coconut or something. Powerful but not overpowering if you know what I mean. Five stars.
Absolutely love this gym. Spacious, with nice atmosphere. The only thing missing is a clock. Because I do carry my phone with me, I do not have idea about the time. It would be great if you put few clocks around the gym …
Can someone please explain why, in a heatwave you have removed the cleaning stations? For a company that seems to pride itself on its cleanliness, I find it difficult to believe your commitment to keeping your gym that way.
The only payment option is direct debit and the cancelation policy is of 30 days. Since I was only visiting, I ended up paying 2.5 months for only one month of access. Customer support was unwilling to refund the 2nd month.
No wash facility after midnight or toilet. The stair master machine been skipping (jumping) for last few weeks when using it doesn't feel safe two of them. No air conditioning or wash facility to wipe down equipment.
Unless you like training at 3 am, don't bother signing up. Constantly over crowded. Lucky to get on a bike let alone weights. Fantastic equipment. However its ways too busy. Should be a capacity cap on the place
Facilities are good, a decent size gym and space. The only problem is the volume of people in peak hours and parking. You could find yourself waiting for machines. It has been very convenient for me otherwise
Brilliant little gym, busy place on a evening. Just wish they'd sort the people parking in disabled bays or right at entrance barrier when they are either not disabled or have a algnment. Gets a bit annoying.
Stinks, no fresh air, you go to changing room... Straight you havole odour from toilets, you go shower you must smell urine. Disgusting. On the gym is too warm no proper ventilation, stinks with the sweat.
It's got far too busy and even though it's a gym everyone seems to need to park right at the front when there are tonnes of spaces because they're all lazy. People misuse the EV spots and disabled bays.
Decent gym, shame about the lazy members parking in electric charging bays with their diesel vehicles and disabled bays with no blue badges because they’re too lazy to walk 10ft from the other spaces.
I love the gym 4am starts every morning one think that's I fined is the changing rooms are not open tho witch let's it down for me I pay same as ever one elce sobe nice to use all the facility
Gotta love a gym, usually busy, but in a good way, plenty of people just getting on with training, food selection of PTs and classes, and only £25 a month, I would recommend a test drive.
Excellent layout, the staff are really helpful and do a good job looking after the gym and replacing misplaced weights etc. Facilities are very clean and in fantastic repair.
Great, recently rejoined, facilities still pretty great, loads of classes which are nice and intense, nice changing rooms with sauna and staff are all friendly and helpful.
Brilliant and brand new gym., great equipment, easy to join and membership very reasonable. Good range of burn classes. Not a gym junkie but could easily become one!!
Poor, because sauna still not in use but people mixing together using gym equipments and without mask.what is the point closing sauna? It doesn't make sense!!
Its a great gym with wide range of equipment, heaps of room and my favourite is the sauna. Please consider installing an ice bath, that would be so awesome!
Jd gym's rip me off everytime we go into lock down they promise not to charge you on both times in lock down they took money from my account don't use them
One of the best gyms I have been to in the UK. Well equipped and the interior design is so well ballanced. Feels good to train in one of their gyms …
Very clean and spacious gym, great layout. Lots of different equipment to choose from.Friendly staff This is the best JD in Leeds hands down …
Freezing COLD SHOWERS !!! JD Gyms Leeds South seems that can't afford to provide warm water... Sauna smells very bad !!! Worst JD Gyms ever I've been.
Best gym I've ever been to, Staff are very professional and friendly unlike pure gym which's full of racist staff that only care about white girls.
Good machines and can't fault the facilities, staff are always welcoming and polite. Never have to wait to long at peak times for stuff. Nice gym
Nice gym, nice atmosphere, very much a 'get what you pay for kind of gym'. Some of the equipment a bit squeaky, but for the money can't complain!
Awful. Avoid. Too busy, and I mean touching elbows. Zero social distancing or any measures in place whatsover. Never again. 0 stars if I could
it's very convenient has got everything needed, more hygiene job in mens changing room especially around shower and toilet need to be done
It is announced everywhere that it works 24/7. But really, the changing rooms with showers are locked at midnight, which is very wrong.
Great gym, nice atmosphere, shame you can't have a shower after 12am with the changing rooms being closed or it would have been 5 stars
Amazing place really good gym staff are very polite very busy between 4 and 7 try to avoid if wanting all machines to be available
Decent price. Great range of equipment to use. As with all gyms this does get busy at peak times and so do the roads around here
1st time here . 1st time work out for ages. Nice clean gym. Didn't see any ego-maniacs. Equipment has instructions. Lovely gym.
Smaller than jd kirkstall but still decent gym not every busy so no waiting for the machines and it’s amazing that it’s 24/7
What. A. Gym. Absolutely huge, unrivalled quality of equipment. A sauna in the changing room, what else do you need?
Not a bad gym, very clean, spacious with a lot to choose from, only downfall is the functional area is always busy.
Decent gym, music's a bit too loud if your hoping to listen to your own music or audiobook which really does suck
This place good clean nice staff very helpful everything voog But need long boxing kit bag which is no there...
I have really enjoyed going to JD Gyms since I join up and it's really nice inside and very nice staff …
Love this gym - faculties are great and looks great. However what is the smell in the men's changing room
This gym has all the equipment you need very spacious but can get busy at peak times which is understandable
Lots of equipment so no waiting outside peak periods. Large changing rooms with good showering facilities.
Had a look around on Friday during the open day/evening, cannot wait until it opens, very well equipped.
Amazing facility’s and great gym with good atmosphere it’s always clean and the staff are very friendly
An insanely over subscribed gym with lots of equipment and accessories that need replacing urgently.
Need to upgrade security for customers, too many vans being broken into and stolen on the premises.
Good gym & variety of equipment sometimes the music volume is too loud or varies throughout the gym
Good range of equipment but beware the changing rooms, the smell will hit you like a brick wall.
I only do classes, I wish there were more options on a weekend and a bit more intense in general
Cardio class was great, put me through it, worth it, definitely going to this class every week.
Really great gym, large weight area which means you dont need to wait around when it is busy.
I can't imagine myself without JD. Thank you for the amazing gym class, brilliant staffs.
Great gym best in area bar none clean and tidy excellent facilities oh and massive sounds
Over crowded. Selling gym membership to lock down areas and they traveled over. Not good.
Great to be back and smashing the gym. All safety measures are in place. Friendly staff.
Nice gym, well set out, good spacious changing rooms (seacroft guys need to take note)
Great gym, excellent value for money, and extremely knowledgeable and helpful staff.
Good gym. Gets very busy. Sometimes some bad clientele but overall good gym
Great gym, open 24/7, with different classes and sauna. Highly recommend.
Fantastic gym, loads of equipment and all for £20, what more do you want
Adequate space and equipment to satisfy everyone even during busy hours
One of the best gyms I've been in for a while. Everyone is catered for
Very commercial gym, has everything you could need but nothing special
Always great to be here. Friendly staff and enough space for everyone.
Great gym just can get really busy at times lots of equipment spot on
