Before buying a car, I opted for a pre-purchase inspection, and they provided me with a comprehensive and meticulous list of everything that was right and wrong with the vehicle. I ended up buying the car and since then, I have been relying on them for various services like brake pads and more. However, during my last visit to have the headlight replaced, they informed me that the previous owner had installed an irregular car socket, making it necessary for me to search for a specific light bulb. This news surprised me, and I was reluctant to go through the hassle of finding the exact bulb. They also offered an alternative, suggesting that they could convert the socket back to its original form, but it would cost $200-$300. I was quite upset and indecisive about what to do. Finally, after spending two weeks searching online, I managed to find the irregular light bulbs. When I attempted to change them myself, I made a discovery - the light sockets were still in their original state! There was no need for me to purchase expensive, unusual headlight bulbs. Now, I can't help but wonder if they provided me with false information or simply made a mistake. It's rather unexpected for professionals to make such an error during a routine headlight replacement. Again, they are professionals and I will probably take my car there again. However, this was my experience with them and I need a clear explanation for such a mistake.

This small garage simply looks old and shabby in the middle of diverse and revitalizing Main Steet. There is no modern computer booking for your appointment, nor is there a comfortable customer seating area. The wait sometimes is long, and the service isn't usually fast. But, once you get to talk to the owner, Stuward, your car issues will be quickly examined and identified. He is honest, sincere, patient, and experienced; it is so hard these days to find all these nice qualities from an auto repair/service shop. I have been going to Kartek for the repairs on all of my vehicles and Stuward always takes his time to explain the problems clearly and comprehensively. He also always provides a few different quotes for the parts that need to be replaced, which is very helpful for me to determine how much I want to spend. Honesty and transparency are the keys for me as I have been cheated by dealers with their outrageous prices. And did I mention Kartek offers perhaps the best price in town?My recent visit was to replace my Volvo XC90 front brake pads and discs, the Kartek used German OEM parts and charged me about $400 less than the dealer. Stuward somehow found a noisy issue and solved it at the same time, without any additional charge. People say 'Don't judge a book by it's cover.' This couldn't be more true to my great experience over the years with Kartek. Highly recommended!

Went in to get an intermittent stall at idle checked out. Stewart was really professional and code scanned for free, and was patient and methodical in explaining what everything meant. He also recommended some services to maintain my car health overall (based on my kms) but in a very no pressure way. I ended up making an appt for a transmission drain & fill and sparkplug change and it was all documented nicely. It didn't solve the intermittent stall, but I appreciated the help and information anyway. I would have preferred better communication during the process (eg he changed the engine air filter without asking me though it was cheap, and didnt mention that he cleared a few codes until after I picked up my car). They also are very hesitant to quote prices on work and didn't inspire a lot of confidence when it came to problem solving an intermittent issue. A lot of "if you want to" talk. I eventually went to another shop that found extensive rodent damage to the car's wiring that was leading to the codes that Kartek found. Not sure why Kartek didn't notice or even bother to look under the hood. Parking lot is a bit bonkers!

I went to Stuart at Kartek when the window on my Highlander wouldn’t go up (of course during a rainstorm). He was busy, but told me to come by so he could look. He couldn’t repair immediately (it was 5pm and he closes at 5:30 as well as needing to order a part), but he offered to let me park in his garage over night because I only have on-street parking (he was concerned about break-ins). I thought that was very considerate. He is honest and seemed well-priced (compared to the Toyota dealer prices). We had suggestions for how we could repair a broken light in the most cost effective way (even if he wasn’t going to make money on it). We ended up repairing the broken light with him too because we were very happy with the price and service on the window repair. He let us know the exact cost before starting any work, completed the work on time. I hope I never have car trouble again, but if I do, I will go back to Kartek. They’re the best mechanics. My problems were my flat tire but the 2 front tires need to be replaced. Steward tried to order the parts today and we have 3 minutes deadline but somehow Steward made it happened. They spotted small thing that wrong with my valve stem. It’s could cost me more problems later on. They changed my 2 front tires with professionalism. I was having issues where my car wouldn’t start and got towed to Kartek. They managed to fit me in right away and tried to get it started despite the mystery issues. I was a bit concerned as I wasn’t sure what the issue was and hadn’t heard back from them for a couple days and was worried it would be expensive. When it was running and I went to pick it up I was shocked that it cost a fraction of what I expected. When breaking down the costs it was obvious there was no way they charged me for all the time they put into it. I asked if I could leave a tip and was told no so a good review is the best I can do. I would 100% return. And for anyone who is in the same boat I was, don’t worry if you don’t hear back for a couple days, they provide honest work.

Brought my toyota camry in because the engine was overheating. Kartek replaced my water pump and timing belt (which needed to be done, but was expensive). It took a month to get my car back which was too long for me, but they did fix the engine overheating issue. When I got my car back, I went for an oil change elsewhere and the staff there told me there was way too much coolant in my car - they had to remove some. They also found a coolant leak (they told me my radiator has a massive crack down the side) not sure if this was caused by too much coolant being put in and expanding and cracking the radiator, or if kartek just didn't notice the crack to begin with. Overall disappointed because I paid a lot and my car needs a new radiator.

I used to go this place for all my repairs and everything was good until today when I called Stuart and told him that my cousin will be coming around 4 to get nail removed from his tire. When we went there he checked the tire and was very rude in the way he communicated with us. The exchange was unpleasant and he showed a lot of attitude. If it cannot be done then just tell us in a friendly and professional manner and we will go somewhere else but this was no way to talk. I would have come here for any car related problems as I liked his work and trusted him but after this exchange its not gonna happen. Will find someplace new to take my business and I hope this does not happen with anyone else.

We'd made our trip from Edmonton to Vancouver with no problems with our beater 270k km Grand Caravan, but after parking at our final destination for an hour, the car wouldn't turn over. Luckily, my brother knew a good mechanic. Kartek solved the problem quickly and efficiently (bad fuel pump) for a good price, all based on the note I'd hastily written before the tow truck arrived. As an added wrinkle, we were going to be gone hiking for the week with no cell service, but the van was waiting when we returned, good as new. I would recommend Kartek to anyone needing good service at a great price. I wish all my breakdowns could be in Vancouver.

Best daily auto service in town. Provided detailed consultancy before services. Always trying to offer the most quality and affordable solutions with the most appropriate parts, in contrast of ridiculous quotes from those "brand" dealerships. Once the AC in my car was not working. The dealership inspected and quoted for more than $1000! Then I came here. Kartek mechanic checked my car in details and solved the problem for less than $100! And now after three years the AC is still working perfectly! That's the good service and fair cost you want to get for your car! The line is long though, so better call and make an appointment early!

I have been here a few times now and each time they had shown themselves to be very professional and honest. The owner is accurate with timelines and would lay everything down upfront on costs and of possibilities. He is not afraid to say he doesn't know, as it would require further checking in to determine true cost. He was kind enough to call me and remind me of something he forgot to mention in our conversation, even though I arrived late in picking up my car due to work calls. Stewart and his mechanic team do excellent work. We have a 2005 Honda Accord and 2012 Chevy Equinox and he has addressed all maintenance needs within a week or scheduled us in when they are busy - no longer than 2 weeks. Very personable, fairly priced and informative. Very helpful to repeatedly diagnose a check engine light with no charge, and have done repairs to keep our vehicles running smoothely. When our battery died we were able to have our car towed to his shop in the evening and have the battery replaced within 2 days. We fully trust Kartek's workmanship.

I really appreciated that Stewart took the time to discuss every possible option with due consideration for longevity of the vehicle, safety, and expense. He patiently answered all my questions and updated me as the work progressed. The long series of repairs I needed added up to an expensive bill, but everything was fairly priced and transparently explained. A tire needed repair due to a nail. I called a few places to quote for a patch. Price is reasonable in comparison. In the end, I decided to support local small business and give them a try (positive reviews online helps too). They explained that if the tire was damaged due to driving on a flat then they cannot patch and will charge me less. I got my tire fixed in an hour which is pretty good considered I did not make an appointment. I feel that they are fair and honest and will recommend their services.

It used to be a good shop but since the business got busier, it has changed all. Bad service and attitude. I felt like they didn’t welcome small jobs like changing oil and tires. They topped up the p steering fluid in my car so I asked if there’s something wrong with it. He said ‘I’m not gonna tell you’. ? Hey Stuart. Tell me what annoyed you yesterday. Was it because I said No to your quote for the spark plug replace that was $530+tax? Or that I said that job could be done in 2hours not 3+hours?

I couldn't find a reason to miss a star. Stuart fitted in my truck the same day and I told him what I thought I knew I needed done but he said he'd like to take a look before agreeing to my diagnosis. He ultimately found a less expensive fix for the rubbing noise behind my back wheels. Fixed in 2 hours, road tested and presented me with a bill for 30 mins labour. His mechanic was polite, friendly and gave me a chance to view the process first hand and explained what was being done. I would go back.

Stewart and his team are really awesome. He is an honest man and that is all too rare in his business. His rates are fair and with many experiences with his shop I give Kartek my highest recommendation. The only thing that I would say is that because they are fair and do good work you need to expect to wait a little longer at times for your vehicle to be ready but that is more about managing your own expectations, which in my view is a small price to pay for knowing that your car is in good hands.

I was in Vancouver for a short visit and to give my car to my son and his partner. I knew there was a crack in the boot of the right passenger side axle and that it needed to be fixed. This garage was across the street from where my son works. I walked in there, asked the owner if he could give me a quote to fix it. Kartek is my preferred mechanic in Vancouver. They are always very reliable, honest and thorough. My car had an electrical issue and they took the time needed to diagnose and fix the problem. I got a flat tire on my way to an appointment and was lucky enough to be near enough to these guys. it turns out my car does not have a spare tire so I was unable to change it myself. they were super friendly and fixed my tire in the time that I went to and returned from my appointment. the cost of the replacement was also really reasonable. They are very busy here and clearly get good reviews. However, their approach to diagnosing the vehicle faults was guess work and not methodical resulting in wasted time for both them and myself. I always go by this place and just recently, today, I went in to get my tires swapped from winter to summer. After booking an appointment beforehand tbf. Solid service, valet my car and even individually wrapped my winter tires after. Definitely would come back for another time if the opportunity arises.
