For me the best bookshop in Sydney. Massive range. Huge amount of books. Tons of beautiful reading. Trillions of words. In other words if you like to read this is Z-Game Mode. My usual solitary Saturday morning. Take the bus into downtown and first stop and really the only sun reason stop is Kinokuniya. Though will grab a burger and then have a couple of pints afterwards. Then back on the bus with my book loot. Reading is popular. People love books (yet, when I was in the army it was better to hide your books in case your mates thought you were smart…uh oh, the bus just broke down…no it’s moving again). Where were we, oh yes books! Kinokuniya is the go to book stire. You can have a coffee, cake and talk at the in-store cafe. Though it’s always packed and difficult to get a table. I bought four books today $99.00, three for me and one book for my son, an anime graphic novel part five. Kinokuniya is in the Galleries Victoria right on the corner of George Street and Park Street. Directly opposite Sydney Town Hall. Two escalators up and the store covers a huge area. Great gift area and if you’re into stationary well this is your scene. Kinokuniya is a Japanese product and their attention to sales detail and variety is atomic boss level. I’ve always wanted to find romance in a bookstore and Kinokuniya would be the prefect for. Of course one doesn’t live by dreams alone and if I did I wouldn’t need to read. Books are awesome. Kinokuniya is awesome. Get some!

A book lover's dream! ♥️ Kinokuniya is the largest book store in Sydney, located on the top floor of The Galleries. Boasts a huge selection of International books, not only Japanese, but also American and European. I don't even know where to start about their book selection. They have a huge manga section, crafts, sport, cooking, children's, you name it. The craft section seems recently reduced and the manga has just gotten an upgrade. There's a whole section on noodles. You gotta love that. ️ Lots of Japanese stationary, too. ⁉️ Want something you don't see? Just ask, they do special orders. Also, be on the lookout for signed editions, they're well-known for having authors sign books. Located in the mall, so plan accordingly. ☕ They even have a cafe. How does this Kinokuniya compare? I've only been to Los Angeles and New York, and it knocks both out of the park. This is a gem in Sydney. ⬇️ Downsides: it can't be all perfect, can it? Some copies of books are sealed shut, and there isn't always a display copy for you to view. As the books are imported, some are pricey. And they queues can get long.

If you love books, this place is an absolute heaven for all ages. You can find all sorts of books here - from comics (dc, marvel, manga to name a few), novels, arts and crafts, toys, boardgames etc. The option is endless and it is pretty hard to spend a short time only there. It will be hard to leave the store empty handed as you will be tempted by so many weird or wonderful things. Their annual membership of $15 is worth it as you get 10% discount of purchases. It's $10 if you extend it within a month of the expiry date. Otherwise, 2 years for $25. If you bring little ones, I'm sure they will love the kids corner. If you are overwhelmed, take a break and have a coffee and dessert at the coffee corner, near the cashier at the front.

This place is sooooo amazing for people who start-up their careers and knowledge through copy from books . I like the place is huge However, just feedback this place need to provide your customer place to sit and explore the book in return to buy your product (books) . OF COURSE YOUR STORE IS NOT LIBRARY, DEFINITELY UNDERSTAND but as a customer I want to explore , what inside the book that I am searching for. THANK YOU FOR REMIND THAT WE NOT ALLOWED TO SIT ON THE FLOOR Example your competitors like Dymock as provided their small lounge just to explore their book before their customer buy their product and is very busy and comfortable. Thank you

One of the few places where you are reminded that books are not dead and that they still have a place in the world. Kinokuniya has a lot of books that cater for everyone and there’s every subject you could think of both fiction and non fiction, there is a cafe attached and one of my favourite things are the display books where you can have a look at books that typically come sealed so you can’t see what’s inside. The display book allows you to flick through and make a more informed decision about your purchase. There’s some areas for you to sit if you want, they also sell magazines for niche topics, book marks, stationary. A book worm’s paradise

I am physically disabled (not clearly but right arm doesnt move) and dont get out much so for the first time going out in weeks i decided to come here. I had a great time enjoying looking at all the books and stationary until I went to leave and was rudely stopped AFTER exiting through the security gates that DIDNT go off. He rudely said "bag, now" and got upset when I said hold on I can't use my arm so it will take a little bit for me to open my bag. Like I get he has to check bags but normally they are inside the security gates and check before you go through them not afterwards and normally only if you trigger the alarms which I didn't.

The store itself is huge and they have absolutely everything here! There are books on fashion, art, architecture, food, culture, philosophy, history and everything else in-between. There's also classic literature. I bought myself a book on Oscar de la Renta, a book on Chloé and a book on the artist Jan Van Eyck. They are beautiful books and I am so excited to read them! Inside there is an amazing Japanese café with delicious coffee, tea and pastries too. The staff are helpful, friendly and polite and willing to assist at anytime. I highly recommend this book store to everyone, as well as all of Kinkokuniya's other stores too.

The bookshop itself deserves a definite 5, but the customer service here lacks. I do appreciate that you don't get bombarded when you're on the shop floor but when you get to the counter, you do expect some form of pleasant service. I go to this bookstore at least once every week, and often purchase something. I have never once had a pleasant experience purchasing my item/s. Even when there's no line, I don't get a "hi, how are you?," not even a smile. It makes me feel really unwanted and if it wasn't for the large selection of books available, I wouldn't come here.

Staff is not friendly; some put on a wooden face that often makes me feel like they know better. I was there during lunch and the cashier was rude to an elderly customer who seemed to NOT understand English that well. The cashier asked if he needed a bag, but when he was slow to respond, she pouted, made a face and rolled her eyes. The cashier - an Asian with glasses, long hair tied up and stationed at the first register closest to the Lit section, was an embarrassment considering this is a Japanese bookstore.

Kinokuniya Sydney is an amazing store with a wide range of books, from manga to instructional booklets and beyond. They truly have a book for everyone. Whilst some of their books are fairly expensive and can be found for cheaper prices elsewhere, many are reasonably priced. The location is convenient, in close proximity to many restaurants and other institutions. Additionally, Kinokuniya sells numerous pieces of quality book-inspired merchandise and trinkets, meaning visitors can pick up a nice souvenir.

This is an impressive, large bookstore right next to Town Hall. Pretty much all the latest books across all interests. As its so large, I would recommend seeking out one of the friendly staff to find the book section or title you are after. They are very helpful and will almost always escort you to the right area. Sometimes the store can be a little messy but with that many books, it can't be avoided sometimes. There's also a nice cafe at the entrance as well for coffee, tea and fresh cakes.

The biggest variety of books you will find anywhere in Sydney. Not just for manga, but their general fiction and non-fiction sections are enormous and feature so many specialty books in art, architecture, fashion, and music. I also really appreciate their decently-sized section dedicated to Australian literature, which often gets lost in other book stores. Also features a great stationery/art and craft section with lots of variety. I can attribute much of my book collection to this store.

This place is always the best and a treat to come here. Best actual book store in the city. An abundance of books, a broad range of genres for all ages/ interests, international sections, novelties, toys, gifts, and too many other products to name. Large children's section and manga are popular here. Walking around and browsing is an experience itself. If you are yet to find this place, once you do, you will be a return customer. Always well staffed and has an in-house cafe. A++.

  • Kylie Pollock

Fantastic bookshop with a huge selection and books (including foreign language books) you won't find anywhere else. The queues for the checkout can be long from time to time (especially around Christmas) so be ready for that but the staff are great, confident answering questions and will follow up and order books you request that are often hard to source from other book stores. They are prompt notifying you when your order arrives too.

  • davi

The selection is fantastic, and the staff are polite and great to deal with; nevertheless, newly employed workers at the receptionist could learn how to speak up louder and smile more. It would be ideal if they were taught how to engage with customers rather than just how to deal with the cash register. This is something I notice every time I shop there, and it's disappointing that it doesn't improve.

  • Hotaru

One of their employees made a mistake and charged me $90 for books that weren't even mine. Due to incompetence, I ended up paying around $140. Several hours have passed, and I still haven't received my refund. Today is Friday, and now I have to wait until Monday or Tuesday to see if they deposit my money. The company's policies or the employee's problem-solving skills leave much to be desired.

Absolutely love this book store! It passes the vibe check ✅ I work nearby and frequent here regularly, literally just to be around books, see what is new out and destress. Pros: - great selection of books, comics, and bookish goods and stationary - huge range - vibe check - nice set up - occasional author signed copies of books! Con: Costlier then other book stores in the area.

  • Chilokver

Probably the largest and best bookstore in Sydney. Ginormous collection of titles across all genres and languages, an especially impressive visual novel selection, and the place lets you read any non-plastic wrapped books you want before deciding which ones to buy. What more can a book lover want? (Stationery lovers will be chuffed to learn they also have a good selection of those)

  • vladymir lauchang

One of the biggest bookshop that I've seen in Sydney that offers almost anything a bookshop can offer. Kid friendly with a book reading section for kid readers, a special comic section for nerds like me and a Japanese manga in section of its own. Yet to try the coffee and cake shop but convenient location within the store if you wanted to have something while browsing.

  • Rosie Fox

Long live the bookstore. In these times if you’re not a chain bookstore, it makes it very difficult to survive. Yes, Kinokuniya is a large chain, but you always feel at home there. It’s a great place to find exceptional stationary, a birthday card or your next read. Highly recommended spending some time here and just enjoying the atmosphere of a classic bookstore.

  • Andrew W

The store has everything but not much that you need. The Japanese magazines are overpriced though. What let's it down is the thug security at the doors which makes it an uncomfortable visit. The staff are so so. I have been coming here for years but slowly see it decline sadly. It's interesting Dimmocks customer service is great and don't need thugs at the door.

  • Elisa Donati

It's an amazing bookstore, unfortunately no play to sit and enjoy the place. However, while I was leaving a lady stopped me asking to check my bag, of course I didn't steal anything. She asked me without any reason. I'll never go there again, it was a really bad first impression, it never happened in my life before, as a globetrotter and book nerd.

  • Stephanie Lee

I love how there was a huge variety of books! And it was incomparable to Dymocks! I love Dymocks, but it was completely different in a way. I had a huge array of language books to choose from. It was like a kid in a candy store! They had a lovely area for the children to sit in and read. It had large windows and plenty of sunlight ✨️

  • Renzo W. Alcordo

I rarely complain about places let alone places I frequent often. The security guy asked to check my bags, which is fine, after I explained to him that my books that I brought in were second hand, one from Newtown and one from eBay. He asked for a receipt?? What a joke. Please do better, you have a lovely bookstore and would like to come back

  • mr

I spent about 2 hours in here just browsing all the books before I actually bought a couple myself … so many books to buy… from witchcraft to mushroom books , every type of book you can think of lol!! Staff are very helpful and friendly.. I came all the way from western suburbs, definitely worth it!!

  • CyberRider17

There's a short girl with short hair and glasses at the Manga section that is so rude and she definitely need to find a job that does not involve to be with the general public. Zero customer service skills. Frankly, anyone that work there has this sense of superiority that is so annoying

  • Caitlin P

Love it! An amazing range and knowledgeable staff, and with a membership giving a 10% discount, what's not to love? Wish it had a broader range of tabletop roleplaying books and items, but beggars can't be choosers, the shop is fantastic.

  • NICK O

Advice on manga series is exceptional. This store covers everything and is huge. They have a very large manga amd graphic novel section, an outstanding childrens section, and seem to tale architectural and design books quite seriously.

  • Jamie Wills

Huge range of books and stationary. They also have a range of books in Japanese around the side. Manga in both English and Japanese as well as a small range of figures / Funko pops. Great place for nerdy gifts or just having a browse.

  • Hannah Labutte

One of my favourite places to visit in the CBD. Huge selection of books and of course a Japanese language learner’s dream. If you can afford it, sign up to a membership plan to get some discounts on products sold online or in store.

  • Hermione Le

One of my favourite book stores as I cannot see many large bookstores in Sydney. They offer variety of books and large amount of Japanese products which is great. Seem like we can buy books in English, Japanese and Chinese only.

  • bonk

So much manga. And MXTX !! Any MXTX lovers definitely go here, especially tgcf fans bc in the japanese/chinese section of the store, there's mxtx merch! I could literally get lost just looking at everything.

  • Jos

The best book store in Sydney, by far. They have a small cafe, a large sections of mangas, culture, history, informative books (IT, match, biology, etc), cook books, Japanese books, and so much more.

  • Marilyn Lawson-James

AMAZING!!!!! Booklovers heaven. Had some very interesting convos with other customers. Young woman in art area very helpful. Young chap on checkout could do with some customer relations training.

  • Sav Rah

Excellent bookshop and relax place to chill out and browse titles. There is cafeteria inside, usually it’s busy specially at lunch or weekends. Avoid last minute Christmas shopping if you can.

  • Olivia Leung

Love love love this shop! It has everything manga fans want to see! the stuff is a bit expensive but you could just read forever….. if only we had one in Melbourne!! …

  • Matthäus Fox

Very large selection of almost any kind of book type you can think of. Amazing art book selection, and if you're after anime/manga, you'd be hard pushed to find a bigger selection.

  • Albert James

Nice ranges of books. Don't visit without blocking off enough time to look through it properly. Definitely worth a look for those quirky tomes you might be surprised to find.

  • Lilly Piri

Biggest selection of graphic novels I’ve ever seen. Lots of art books, studio ghibli merch, and incredible stationery. The drinks at the cafe are also wonderful!

  • Sukma Smita Grah Brillianesti

Nice bookstore with amazing collection on art and design books. They also have a tiny art gallery. Feels like can spend long time here and buying heaps of stuff!

  • Daniyal Ahmed

Got two books from this place. Staff is quite helpful if you reach out. Only thing I would have loved is for them to have price matched with online stores.

  • Ju Young Park

What a magical place! Such an amazing collection of books that you don’t see in other book stores. I can easily spend a couple of hours browsing!

  • Jo Taylor

Beautiful bookstore, one of the largest I've been to and such an amazing selection. Can also grab a coffee & snack plus plenty of gift options.

  • Vemearts

Absolutely amazing place if you love the art of Anime, games and manga, great if you also have artists you follow that publish books.

  • Raveena Deshmukh

Love this book shop! Has the cutest Japanese merch from many animes. They also have a great collection of new releases across topics.

  • Stefan Williams

My favorite Australian book store, by far. A brilliant place to browse, so many titles and ideas. You never leave empty handed.

  • Ines X

My favourite book shop. Great selection particularly history, social studies, current affairs and new fiction and literature.

  • Josh Freeman

I make sure to make at least one trip to Kino every time I am down in Sydney. One of the best bookstores I've ever visited.

  • Il nor

Went for a book launch event of author Garth Nix, excellent books selections and some with affordable prices.

  • Jonathan Park
