I visited the London Transport Museum recently on a busy Sunday morning in August. It’s a huge museum, covering lots of different aspects of transport in London, and how it’s been integral to the growth of the city since 1800. There are some huge exhibits to explore, including several floors of historic trams, busses, and underground trains. The museum has a huge amount of information to absorb, and being into graphic design, I really enjoyed looking at the exhibits on transport advertisements and posters through the ages. There is a café and play area within the museum which were very busy as it was a weekend during the school holidays, but it seemed to be a big hit with families. Personally, as I got towards the end of the museum, I did find that some of the information was a bit repetitive. I would have loved to have seen more information on the future of transport in London, as well as some more interactive exhibits, as it was heavy on the info boards. Overall, if you’re interested in the history of London and how transport has helped shape it, then you’ll love this museum. It’s a nice place to spend a few hours learning about the history of the network, and how it’s made London what it is today.

Wide range of kids will love this museum, but I focused my review video on the sections that kids under 5 can enjoy better! ️ Everyday 10:00-18:00 (Last entry 17:00) *Under 5’s Singing and Stories (30 minute session): Tuesdays and Fridays (term-time) 10:30, 11:30, 13:20, 14:20 - Annual ticket*: adult £24 (Children go free) * Even if you’re visiting one time, you need to buy at the same price. - All Aboard Playzone on ground and first floor specially interesting for under 5’s (originally designed for under 7’s though) Nearest stations: Covent Garden, Embankment, Charing Cross ℹ️ Utilities: - Free cloakroom - Buggy park available just inside the museum - Baby changing facilities and accessible toilets on ground floor ☑️Tips: Stamper Trail starts from second floor, but if you’re visiting for a short time because of schedule or your toddler’s nap time, skip the Level 2 and go straight to either ground floor or first floor for All Aboard Playzone! But from preschoolers, they love trails, so stick to the recommended journey! For more information on places to visit with kids in London, please follow @londonful_kids on Instagram!

First time visiting on Monday 31st July (during summer holidays) and we were very pleased with the warm welcome at entry by a kind lady who was very friendly and helpful, she explained the process. It was interesting learning about the different forms of transportation and how and when they were invented. My kids had a lovely first time experience. Lots of photo opportunities and my children were able to enjoy driving a bus as well as sitting on a old traditional train cabin and exploring a little play area with forms of transport. They have a nice cafe on site with drinks and bites to eat. We even popped into their gift shop and grabbed a small souvenir to remember the day by. Overall it was a good day out and I'm glad we finally managed to tick it off our list of things to do. Thank you☺️

Visited here late October 2023, taking advantage of the local residency discount. Enjoyable experience, was particularly enraptured by the newly opened poster exhibition (it's great if you're an avid zoo attendee like me) and the interactive exhibits - and by that I mean enterable trains and buses. You can really put yourself in the shoes of a late 19th century commuter (maybe a banker or a tailor). The gift shop has a decent range of rail-related paraphernalia, including some TfL drip (pyjamas). Didn't try the cafe, did try the free (!) cloakroom. Entry ticket entitles you to unlimited annual visits - can't wait to make the most of this.

Luckily we were able to get free entry as the day of the school trip here, was missed. The kids enjoyed it thoroughly, especially completing the stamp card. The various interactive displays were also very popular. There was also a nice cafeteria with a good selection of meals to suit all ages and dietary requirements. There was ample seating and tables available. The gift shop shop was right at the end. Very expensive ……. One cushion in London Underground colours ….. £60. YES ……. SIXTY POUNDS Ended up spending a FORTUNE getting everyone a present !

This museum is a unique place to explore the history of transportation in the city. In the museum you will find a wide range of exhibits, including buses, trains, streetcars and more, which are presented in an interactive and educational way. The museum offers an opportunity to learn about the development of London transport over many decades and to understand its importance to the city. I recommend a visit to the London Transport Museum to anyone interested in history and transport, it is a great place for education and entertainment.

This is a fantastic museum and our car enthusiast 6 year old absolutely loved it. There's a scavenger hunt/stamp thingy that he wasn't really into, but it was a nice touch nonetheless. My wife and I equally enjoyed it. Such a cool amount of history that we weren't expecting. The real buses, trains and what not were so cool too, to sit in and see what it would have been like. If you're in London, check out this underrated museum. Well worth it. 5/5. _____________________________ Follow me for more reviews, tips and photos!

The museum was great, don't get me wrong, it was only a lot smaller than expected. We spent a lot of time reading all the signs and features of the exhibit and still it took us only 3 hours to go through it all. If you rush it, you can do it in much less time. Recommended? Yes (and no), this museum is recommended in combination with other activities nearby like the National Gallery and if you're interested in the subject. If not, then you may better spend your time elsewhere

Love this place. It is well done with interactive displaces and a good progression throughout the history of London public transport. Covers the growth of London and various forms of public transport, which are very much interlinked. Horse powered, trains, tube, buses, trams, river - all the forms. Does well with the space it has. Plenty for kids to do. The display on posters currently on is quite good. Can be busy and only criticism is a bit pricey.

Had a great time at the free adult explorer evening, so much quieter to explore and less stressful without kids around. It's great that there's several interactive displays and a sensory room. Also that you can go on a few tubes/trains stepping back in history, and overall, the museum is great for learning for all ages of Londons history of transport. At the time, only 2 floors were open but the museum is a great location in the heart of Covent Garden.

Great little day trip! The museum has a total of 3 floors showing the history of different modes of transportation in London. From carriages and boats to trains, busses and the tube, everything gets a fair share. Each exhibition piece has detailed information and is presented in a very cute and playful manner. Great for kids too. We spent about 3h here. We were particularly impressed by the animation showing the evolution of the tube map over time.

Only visited the shop, but as a transport person, I thought it was fun to be there and at least see the shop. The prices of everything is extremely high but I suppose it’s what you have to do to make your money out of the Tube system. £30-60 just for a moquette style cushion, £12 key ring… etc. There’s a cafe upstairs with all sorts of TFL signs and branding. It all looks quite fun, and would probably go again if I had more time.

Great insight to the London public transport through the ages, some great things for all ages to do with volunteers carrying out show and tell. Cafe on site with a good variety of products available in the shop, I'll certainly be getting something to remind my Lindon born-btead dad for Christmas something to remind him of travelling on the buses, trams and underground back in his early years. A great couple of hours spent there.

The museum is fascinating. It provides information on the history & transformation of public transport system in London from before industrial revolution era until today. As London is one of the city with the best public transportation system in the world, learning about the history of their public transport system is really interesting! We learned how advancement in technology have helped the British establish the most advanced public transport system since decades ago!

  • Julie Colombat

It was great with a 3 year old child. Quite a few interractive bits, real bus to pretend to drive, a moving miniature train, card to stamp in each section, a play area with a pretend bus and café, small lego area, and tiny soft play bit for babies. Also some of the old trains and buses are accessible to the visitors. What my son remembered the most was all the POO under the horses!

My wife and I throughly enjoyed going to this museum. It’s around 25 pounds for an adult ticket I believe, but it is valid for a year, which is really nice. I would say it’s more kid friendly but we still learned a lot from the pictures and descriptions that are under the images. Very interesting and fun to be able to learn about the transportation history of London.

Great experience! It was fun to be able to look at and go inside old stock as they would've appeared when in service. The wax figures inside of them are a little creepy, but also add to the dioramas they exist in, in a way. I'm not sure how I feel about the ticket being valid for a year, since I don't know if there's enough to do to justify coming back a second time, but overall I didn't mind it and perhaps I will come back next time I'm in London.

Such an interesting place and full of history but sooo overcrowded although we booked ! ( you buy a yearly ticket but still have to hook a visit) we haven’t managed to see lots of spots so I hope next time ill book in a weekday maybe it would be less overcrowded. The gift shop is very overpriced you can buy same things on ebay for half the price .

The museum has a lot of interesting things to see but we didn't spend as much time there as we initially thought we would. It's a great place for people with kids with lots of things there for kids to explore and see. Overall I enjoyed visiting but not sure if it's worth the money if you're not a family with kids.

Manages to blend the rich history of transport in the city, from horses to the Tube, with plenty of activities for kids. There is a little something for everyone in this museum and it has a lot of charm. If you or your child is interested in transportation, engineering, or just trains, this is your best bet!

It was fun. I like the fact that you buy annual ticket and can come back more in a year if you wish. And the annual ticket isn't expensive. Also great that children under 17 can go free and people on universal credit has discount too. Well done TfL. ❤️

Must-visit place. The transport museum is an amazing place, especially for kids. It shows how the transportation has been developed in London. All kinds of transportation trains, buses, and underground.

Reasonably high cost @£24 per person and only one quid off for concessions. 17y-old & under do get in free. It's an "annual subscription", but that's not much good to anyone paying a one-off visit.

Small museum filled with character. Cafe was understaffed which meant service was slow and price seems steep for what's offered. Ideal for a quick visit if you have the money.
