“Art enclave of shanghai” M50 is one of the famous contemporary art zones of Shanghai. The place was actually a mill producing clothes, which was later converted into a place to display art. Talking about the place, it has more than 100 art cafes with free entrance; the walls are all painted with different designs, art forms and graphics. The main aim of the artists is to display their art and to sell as much as possible. Apart from paintings you can also find photo studios, fashion designers, etc. I could see lot of foreigners here more than the locals as this place is quite famous among the foreigners. If you are an art lover like me then this place is not to be missed.
Nice little village of art studios and galleries in industrial buildings. I believe that a real art connaisseur could spend lots of time there, however, I would not recommend this place to any "simple tourists", unless you are looking for some unique, handmade souvenir. The shops are actually nice, but there were also so many places going under construction that there was not much left of the atmosphere because of all the trucks and construction worker going around. Oh, and go there when the weather is good! The little cafés look promising!
M50 (莫干山路50号) is an industrial look/warehouse turned into art district kind of place. It's free to the public and if you're a creative person/art enthusiast or even if you just want to check a cool open space with lots of galleries, studios, cafes and anything art related. Architects and photographers will have a good time visiting this place. There are countless alleys to discover, maybe one visit won't be enough, so come with time to walk around and seat down for a coffee and talk with your friends.
M50 is so charming. This review is a bit unfair as I went during mid-autumn festival and everything is mostly shut, but some art studios and shops were open. Most don't allow photography and a minority require tickets. A majority have shops attached to them, and a few are outright selling the exhibited works for staggering costs. For the casual buyer, there are options, but in terms of art collecting, this one is for clientele with deep pockets.
Good place to visit for a day out. Not very touristy, so there's not all that many people around, which is great. There's plenty of galleries to wander around and look at and/or buy artwork. As others have mentioned the food and drink here is mediocre at best so perhaps eat and drink elsewhere before coming. Entry is free!
A true gem of Shanghai. The art galleries are a great place to walk around and take in some of the local expression. The galleries are staffed with friendly and knowledgeable individuals who will gladly explain to you the local art culture. They often have live music and great food!!
I love this place so much. It’s an area is for a creative people. It quite hard to go because it’s not nearby the station but finally I’m here. There are many points in each area for taking photo. I will really appreciated if this area have more restaurants or café for hopping.
A very different art center, utilizing the old factory. Unlike the many other tourisy old town places, there was no crowds. Displaying various artists' work and their studios You can enjoy a quiet, leisure afternoon going thru the studio and maybe see how east met/mix west!
For artists and art lovers, M50 district might be their must visit destination. It is considered as a creativity and art hub in Shanghai. You can walk through different studios and galleries enjoying the creations and unique works
Conserved industrial buildings that are converted into art spaces and galleries. Interesting facts about the building provided near building entrances. Many free galleries to wander in and out of. Worthy of a half day exploration.
Here’s when to come here, when it’s your second or third time to Shanghai OR if you’re big into art. Great galleries of local artists and a cool hipster space. A couple of ok cafes. Glad I visited but I only need to see it once.
Amazing exhibits, a must see (non tourist) place in Shanghai. Free admission, not crowded (as every other place in Shanghai) and also hidden artistic gems in every corner of this place. 10/10 Mao's
Great place for art and good coffee although some coffee shops have unclear opening hours. Feels more like London or Berlin than China but if you're into that it's worth a visit.
Great place which has lots of studios for free entry. Various artful works that can spend at least couple hours. Most not allowed photo.
a hidden gem that allows you to avoid crowds yet enjoy some spectacular contemporary art and architecture
Awesome place with too many shops for artistic items and decor. Should definitely visit when in Shanghai.
Cozy space for artwork and creativity. Had a great time spending with a nice restaurant also.
