A scenic road at the top of Reseda Blvd where hikers and bicyclists go to enjoy the beautiful view of the San Fernando Valley. This area includes several trails throughout the Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy property. Marvin Braude was a developer many years ago who bought this land and donated it to the conservancy. How fortunate for us that the property takes up a huge portion of untouched land for visitors, local wildlife, and flora and fauna. It is a well needed escape from the hustle and bustle of the city. Note: Please be respectful when visiting local parks and trails and keep these areas free of litter for all to enjoy, especially for native animals and living plants and insects that call it their home.
Nice little park perched on top of the very southern tip of Reseda. Great views and adjacent hiking trail that takes you to the mountain ridge overlooking the entire valley. Trail also leads directly to the Nike missile site. HUGE WARNING: there is a stop sign inside the parking lot that is well marked but seems placed in a very odd spot (a cross walk to nowhere). Come to complete stop!! It's a video capture camera that detects movement. They will ticket you!
Great hiking area with many trails, offering a variety of challenges from casual to very steep and challenging. Many flowers in spring, but not much shade in most parts, so plan accordingly. Wonderful views of the valley and surrounding neighborhoods from many of the trails. Make sure to pay attention to signage, as there are bits of private property spread throughout the open space. All in all, worth checking out and exploring day or evening.
Love/hate relationship with this trail. Biggest issues is lack of closed trail signs on one end and finding it on the other side, if you made it in one piece. Sometimes it's messy, sometimes, it's just too rugged and sometimes it's wonderful and the exact peace you seek. Like I said, love/hate. The other beauty is how much exploration there is within, spread your wings and discover a new path, every time you step in!
Wonderful hiking trail and scenic view! A lot more chill than Runyon. Usually really clean considering it's a public space. Nothing like to beautiful landscapes here. The variety in scenic locations here is nice too. I enjoy basking in the oneness with nature here. Awesome, how one can feel like they're not in a big city at all when here. Highly recommend this view for locals and out-of-towners alike.
I really enjoy the hikes here. You get to see a beautiful view of the ocean. What I look forward to is the steep trail you encounter in the end, before you arrive in the junction trails. Definitely my favorite, and it makes you sweat. Also, always be aware of your surroundings because a lot of bikers pass through. One of my favorite trails and it's a great place to explore the Santa Monica mountains.
Not crazy about this trail entry due to its relative accessibility and popularity (top of Reseda, with plenty of parking, so lots of hikers and bikers). However, it does provide good access to a number of different single track trails that branch off of dirt Mulholland. Posting pics here from some of those local trails, which are all easily reachable from this spot.
I love getting out to enjoy nature, but one thing I don't like is when my experience gets ruined by people's disgusting and careless behavior. I visited this place several times and the last two times I've been there I was disappointed to see either dog or human fecies along the trail with tissues scattered around. I will have to try another place to hike next time.
I was at this is a nice beautiful location somewhere to walk around get away from it all so that's kind of nice and parking I don't remember how good or bad it was to be honest with you but it's a nice little hike nothing is too crazy I'll tell a little bit of starter hike if you will but definitelyworth checking out that's for sure
Great place to trek/hike with multiple destination points. More about distances than elevation gains and you can't beat the views. Suggested destinations are, Eagle Rock, Temescal Peak, Nike missile defense installation, Van Alden cave, Skull Rock, Murphy Ranch and more. The views of Santa Monica bay by itself is worth the trip
This may be the penultimate park trail in the immediate LA area, offers for the enthusiast abound from walkable trails to a more adventurous hike in single file trails. There are caves to be discovered, bike paths, sitting areas and awesome vista's to take in. A great livable unplugged experience that's worth a monthly visit.
Easy access to dirt Mulholland which takes to to many hikes and bike trails. Sorting is the best time of the year when evening is green and beautiful. The hills boast lots of wild flowers (ceanothus, Fiesta, deadly nightshade, lupin, sunflowers, Indian tobacco, mustard, and of course California poppy. Take lots of pictures.
One of my favorites. There's so many different ways you can experience these trails. You can tailor your path to be easy or difficult. You could be back in 30 minutes or 3 hours. This has something for everyone. Spectacular views. Sometimes crowded with bikes, but a great place to experience nature without going to far.
Great hike. You can go easy or you can really ramp it up to a very strenuous home if you want. It goes for miles and miles so you can really get the hike or workout you want. I'm taking my English friends here in June as they fancy themselves accomplished hikers. Taking them on the hard part to see how they hold up.
May / spring is the best to see wild flowers blooming. This year, 2022, we saw so many beautiful spices of butterflies . If you are lucky enough you can see the Ocean from a top. We got mountains covered by moisture and cloud layers. It was very cool. Stay on the trail and enjoy your hike.
Very peaceful hike. Usually takes about an hour to an hour and a half to complete depending on which route you take. Difficulty also varies depending on the route. You can see the ocean when you reach the top of a certain peaks. Highly recommend if you want to get your daily cardio done.
This place has absolutely beautiful views, the price being the hills you climb to get at them. I reccomend cathedral rock, where you can see crows play in the thermals that sweep up the hill. I imagine it is gorgeous here in spring. Please be kind to everyone and pack out your trash!
Many trails to choose from and not crowded. I hiked to the Vanalden caves. There were two parking options, paid at the top (past the yellow line ) which is $5 cash or if you don’t mind walking 5 minutes more then it’s free before the yellow line. FYI Stop sign is photo enforced!
Literally the gateway to the Santa Monica mountains, with great views of both The Valley and the ocean, tons of hiking and MTB. You can go all the way south to PCH, west to Serrania Park (Woodland Hills) Trippet Ranch (Topanga) , and east nearly to the 405, and more.
You have a little bit of everything depending how far you want to hike. If you go far enough you can see the santa Monica mtns...Or you can just pick a spot that's not to far from the parking area on top of Mecca and just enjoy the views and have a picnic.
It's a long day livin' in Reseda, there's a freeway runnin' through the yard... Gonna glide down Mulholland and write her name in the sky... I felt like was standing exactly where Tom Petty penned the lyrics to Free Fallin', it was pretty damn cool.
Awesome hiking trails, bring water bottles and a sun hat, because the many hidden trails are long and brutal but beautiful and worth it. Free parking. Dog friendly, bring dog poop bags...please..for hiking shoes sake. See you on the hiking trails.
A gem atop the valley. The Marvin Braude Mulholland Gateway Park at the very top of Reseda boulevard in Tarzana is a natural oasis of native flora and fauna. The initial climb up the hill (both from the parking area and to the fire road)
Quick run spot in the early morning. Park, head up the trail, veer left and around and then run up the hill on the right side. Quick 2.5 miles round-trip. Great for biking with a long trail all the way to the other side of the mountains.
Lovely place for a quick walk, long hike, ride with the mountain bike or taking the dog .. Basically whatever you like! Just be aware there's no water for pets except at the entrance where the workers leave a bowl of it out...
I hike here three days a week in the morning. Beautiful in spring and although currently dry some flowers still blooming. We have deer, coyotes, rattlers, king snakes, lizards, horned lizards, tarantulas, and more.
Not much to say a of yet since we arrived near closing time we didn't get to fly explore the trails. They are a little difficult to find but again that may simply be a function of me rushing since time was short.
Great place to go for a walk. There's a smaller paved loop that people can jog on and a hicking trail for people that want to get up in the mountains! Perfect for couples and just getting out in nature!
Beautiful scenery, but too many bees. I was driven crazy by those bees, at least 15 of them kept chasing me like a dedicated VIP bee service. Thus for the sake of my life, I have to left in 20 mins.
Very piecful. Can see the San Fernando valley on very top lots of nature good to read your Bible an be at piece a very close getaway from everything. Lots of hiking trails. If hiking bring water..
Great place to workout and relax. Dont forget to move your vehicle before sunset or you will get locked in. These park rangers and employees aren’t playing around afterhours there.
Multiple hiking trails at the top of Reseda. Including El Cabellero canyon and Garapito Canyon. All levels of difficulty and flat beginner trails on Mulholand fire road.
Ghis is one of the best park in the area. It offers different trails, some are really easy and some are harder. There are always people hiking, biking or running.
There are SO MANY flies here that you can’t hike without constantly trying to knock them away from your face. The parking is also stupid, though not difficult.
Nice clean trail , with a great view of the valley . Rode my mountain bike, little too hilly for me, being out of shape . Otherwise a cool traveled trail .
Easy parking, charge up top though. Great access to lots of trails
Restrooms
One restroom available
Dog-friendliness
Dogs permitted on leash
Great hike with a few connecting hikes. Pleanty of parking but it does lack shade. There's some great views and picnic tables that are readily accessible.
Beautiful wide trails, parking easy, however some spots overrun with graffiti and trash. Maybe makes you feel sad, uncomfortable. Open areas are great
It's a unpaved fire lane with residential vehicles on it often. It can be quite dusty. Good thing it is a small portion of the four mile hiking loop.
Great uphill hike just to get to the parking entrance where there are several trails to choose from and an ample of glorious views/photo opps.
Very peaceful place to park and chill... it’s quiet. , good spot for lunch . Lol no food sold there, but take your food and park .
It's the best way of accessing Topanga State Park. There's a nearby 101 access, restrooms, and even a free parking section.
Great location for a run, mountain bike riding, brisk walk or hike. Awesome rock formations and views of the Pacific Ocean.
Quite literally the gateway into a huge interconnecting fireroad highway, great place to get your gravel dirty miles in!
Fantastic walking trails, small running brook's, lots of vegetation, hike, run, bike a very nice place to do it... …
Can't go wrong spending some time on the trail. From Tarzana head up to the end of Reseda Blvd and you're good to go
Awesome trails. Friendly people. Me & my 10yo daughter's 1st time....not so easy for us out of shape people lol
Beautiful trails, not too challenging, nice panoramic views, some shade, bike, horses and dog on leash!
Love this hike! It was 90 degrees so I was afraid of snakes but trails are wide enough so I was happy
Beautiful views for hiking and biking. You can see the ocean. Plenty of hills.

Such a nice easy walk to start trail and as you go further in you get your much needed blood flowing
What a great view of Santa Monica Beach, about 4-5 from this hill..sitting on a bench...yes a bench
Good place to go hiking with the fam. Has plenty of parking, so you don't have to worry about that.
Great place to mountain bike. Went there with a few friends . Nice trails , not crowded at all.
It's a great place to hike there's smaller trails there's large trails it's almost endless
Beautiful views, not jam packed w people and the people there are friendly.
Great place for a hike or when you just need to go out and reset yourself
Nice area to get away from the city while still being incredibly close
Love this hike. It's challenging and sitefull.
Great trail hike, great views, and very clean.
Amazing place to do hiking
