Hot damn! Hands down the best chicken sandwich. All other establishments need to apply. Tables, counters, and floors were clean. There were two ordering kiosks at the counter that were easy to use. Decor is contemporary, bold, clean, with mugshots of celebrities all over the walls. Soda fountain area was clean and well stocked. Trash can was not overflowing. Restaurant temperature was just right and the clientele was very diverse in age and color, mostly groups of three or more. Steady flow of customers. No parking lot as this is a downtown location, so you'll need to find a nearby parking garage or meter. Staff was friendly and confident and had a sense of urgency. Staff clothing was casual and well kept. Food ordered all had great presentation, was at the perfect temperature, and perfect texture. All food came in carryout containers which was well appreciated. Chicken sandwich was phenomenal, juicy, crispy breading, bursting with flavor, perfectly spicy, and made even better with the slaw and pickles. Sandwich buns were tasty and soft. You can choose how spicy you want the patty; I chose "hot". Hands down the best chicken sandwich. I can't think of anyway it could be better. Collard greens were so flavorful, I could eat a gallon. Mac and cheese was creamy and topped with delicious cornbread crumbs which added a little sweetness. Moon Pie was so good, huge, and not too sweet which I loved. Tried several sodas from the fountain and they were all amazing. This meal was one hundred percent worth every penny. On my next visit, I want to try more sodas from the fountain, the flaming hot Cheetos side, and try a spicier level of chicken sandwich. Tip: they do not validate parking for cityscape parking garage, so buy something at CVS on your way out. Thank you Monroe's, can't wait to visit again!

The food was absolutely amazing! I got the sloppy popcorn chicken, add egg and cheese, the cornbread mac and cheese and the chocolate milkshake. The lines were a bit long but the wait was absolutely worth it. I wouldn’t recommend this place if you’re in a rush, but it is definitely good if you have about an hour to sit down and have lunch.

Parking
Across the street there seems to be a parking garage, but I’m not entirely sure of its accessibility to the public. In front of the restaurant is the light rail, so parking in front of the place isn’t possible.
Kid-friendliness
Not the most kid friendly. One of the menu items is called the “Ultimate Sloppy Toppy”. This place does, however, offer high chairs for small children.
Wheelchair accessibility
The crosswalk at the corner does offer a way for people in a wheelchair to access the sidewalk, however they may need assistance with the door as it does not automatically open.

If I could give 0 stars for the managers attitude (capris) I would. My husband found an actual crawling ladybug in his salad. Not only did she not want to refund our whole order she was extremely rude to us and proceeded to raise her voice and tell us we had to come back tomorrow to speak to the manager above her so he could refund only the salad for my husband. I mentioned that that is an Inconvenience to us since we don’t live around here and we would have to pay for parking again but she could not come up with any other solutions to help us and was again very rude. Unfortunately we brought guests from out of town to try our previously favorite fried chicken spot but was tainted with this sour encounter. Capris also mentioned that the ladybug is not their problem as they get their salads from a different manufacturer and they don’t make it in house and they just “opened the bag today” again this is inexcusable behavior for a crawling bug found in our food. She did try to offer my husband something else but rightfully so his appetite was no longer there. We will never be coming back to this location.

Very disappointed with how I was treated with my wife by not only 1 employee but all of them working. They all had an answer for something with a smart remark. I asked a girl a question and 3 of them answered, not professional!! Got there at 6:30 they don’t close till 7 but wouldn’t let us enjoy our food dine in. Got a drink for $4 and the machine was out except for pineapple crème and cherry soda but would not give me a refund. Said I still have choices to choose from. I don’t know who wants to eat spicy chicken and fried with pineapple crème soda. My sandwich did not come with slaw or pickles or sauce as it’s supposed to. As far as the employees they were not wearing hair nets or hats and the place was not clean. The rags to wipe tables were hanging on the trash can. An all around horrible experience for my first time and will not return.

Visiting from Dallas and happened to stop by here for a quick bite. What a mistake that was. Many things not being done right in this restaurant. The staff is very rude and honestly stingy with utensils, sauces, etc. The kitchen is open and you can see your food being prepared and no one is wearing a hair net. I did not take a zoomed in picture of the fries but there was clearly a long dark black hair present. That was very unappetizing and killed my hunger off the bat. The food is not bad, however not worth the prices they have listed. For $12 just a chicken sandwich that isn’t even on par to other places I have been to that sell if for less ? If you add a order of fries it’s $16. If you want sauce another $.50. I was clearly disappointed, on top of that the music is way too loud, you can’t even hear the person next to you. The 2 stars are for the good soda they make and ok sandwich.

Wow ! This place is a hidden gem ! I had the best chicken tenders and fries I’ve ever tasted! I also tried the smoked turkey collard greens and all of it was delicious! Can’t believe I’ve never heard of this place but I will absolutely be returning! Can’t wait to try more of the menu ! Hope they open up more locations in the valley cuz this place is fireeee! ❤️

I ordered the chicken sandwich at the "What The Cluck?!" heat level with a side of macaroni and cheese. My friend ordered the regular chicken box with fries. The sandwich chicken was crispy, juicy, and as spicy as I expected it to be. As a lover of spicy foods, this place didn't disappoint. The french fries were also crispy and seasoned well; would definitely recommend. The only reason this place didnt get 5 stars is because the macaroni was just so-so. Its not breaded like in the picture, it isn't very cheesy, and was overall okay, but not worth $4 as a side. Stick with the french fries. Friendly staff, clean, and fairly quick. Fair warning: everything is fried in peanut oil, so nobody with an allergy should eat here. However, overall good experience and I would come here again.

This place needs help. The music is way to loud like ear piercing but the staff was enjoying it. They go to great lengths to ignore you, the entire time I was there no one said a word to me and not even ANY eye contact was made. I came in trying to be polite but they gave me the cold shoulder and acted pissed that I was even there making them work (this was an hour before close). I'm usually pretty easy going but they were taking it to a whole new low of customer service and I work in customer service so I get it. This would have all not been a big deal if I got what I ordered. I got a regular chicken sandwitch, no spice. But when I got home it was WAY to spicy. But the fries were delicious!

Not only do they bring their spice game, they bring the flavor game too! I ordered the chicken sandwich extra hot with crinkle cut fries and it did not disappoint. For you spicy lovers out there this is by far the best spicy chicken sandwich in town. Next time I'm stepping up to the "WHAT DA CLUCK!" spice level and will let you know how it goes. Definitely give this place a try! Edit: Tried "WHAT DA CLUCK!" and it's a fantastic BUUUUURN! Once I got home I added extra fresh pickles and some salt, very good however if you don't carry a towel to dry off with stick with extra hot.

Arguably the best chicken sandwich in AZ. Extremely flavorful, with a healthy size of chicken breast. Aside from Miss Chicken, not many others compare. Please make sure to stop in when you're downtown and treat yourself.

The food is really good. We got a whatta cluck chicken sandwich, and we were called up to be warned of spice. Husband loves spicy food and was all for it. He loved how much it burned and had a hard time eating, but ultimately, thought it was outstanding. It's super spicy, though, so be warned. I got the hot tenders, but honestly, flavor wise and quality amazing, but no spice whatsoever to me. Next time, i will try extra hot!

Giving it 4 stars because Sandwich was pretty good but I was Kinda shocked for the price of the sand which you don’t get a side of fries. Service and atmosphere was great. Loved the music and the interior design of the place. There macaroni was delicious!!! I liked that how they have you order your food on self checkout meaning that you’ll be placing the order yourself and they’ll hand you the receipt. Parking is limited due to the location being downtown so I was glad I didn’t go there during traffic time. I love that the fries have a Cajun kick to it & the spice levels are hot !!! I love it . Hope to comeback soon and try a different sauce on my sandwich

  • Victoria P.

Great music, cute decor. Although plenty of employees No one greeted anyone coming in , when we figured out where to go to order it was "cash or cards?" "use that screen" while the woman folded boxes I ordered and even though there is a little sign suggesting the customers should smile No one behind the counter was smiling. Almost as though they were all mad at each other or something. Food was outstanding. Maybe I will just get delivery next time.

Okay, first off, the chicken was PHENOMENAL. I’m visiting from out of town and came here yesterday. We ended up coming back today for lunch because it was so good! SECONDLY, I travel for the food and we had the pleasure of being greeted by the owner both times we were in. Keep in mind, to comply with social distancing, everyone had masks on. But the owner recognized my friends and I on our second visit regardless of having the masks on and it was just incredibly welcoming! That’s exceptional service right there! Thank you for the incredible food! I will be dreaming of my chicken sandwich forever now!

The vibe was great but the food was so bland. It looked seasoned but it lacked flavor and salt. They do give you complimentary ketchup but if you don't order ranch for dipping you won't get any. The girls behind the counter had attitudes and were just rude/ghetto. The saving grace in this place was the soda selection. Although it was a minimal selection, the flavors were amazing. Pineapple cream for the win.

Today I went over, for just some fries. The chicken is overpriced. I noticed they had sides on their menu, so I asked about. The lady ranted and raved about the best selling greens, so I got that and the mac and cheese. The greens were saturated in oil it started to come out of the container. It wasnt appetizing. The mac and cheese had to be from last night. It was dry. Like cloth dry. Shouldnt be served. Not happy. I would have walked back but I spent my lunch doing over there. Check your bags if it doesnt look right, don't event leave the store

THE MUSIC WAS TOO LOUD. The staff were unprofessional and disrespectful to one another. Parking was not the best. The food was great, good chicken dipping sauce, good Mac and Cheese, good seasoning on the French fries.

The chicken tenders and fries were over cooked. I get it was a busy Saturday, but the food was not up to par. The salad was less than impressive with a few wilted spinach leaves and 2 cabbage ends in my salad. Do better Monroe's, I spent almost $45 for over cooked chicken /fries and a salad not worth the price.

Delicious chicken, and im not a big fan of soda, but the lemon berry soda they had was great. Line moved quick and the staff was friendly. I do want to go back and see if I can handle a hotter spice level. However, sandwich, soda and fries for +$20 is the only reason it wasn't 5 stars. I should point out they did have good music bumping, which made it a bit difficult to have a conversation. It didn't bother me too much because they had GOOD music and it contribute to the fun atmosphere of the restaurant.

  • Colton Kusilek

My only complaint is that Raising Cain’s and KFC still somehow have market share when Monroe’s is far and away the best option. This place is hands down the best Nashville hot chicken in Phoenix. Their whole menu is delicious and their dipping sauces are excellent as well.

Ordered delivery. It was a tasty meal. Got the fried chicken sandwich with onion rings. Be careful the sandwich can be messy. It's a good size piece of chicken. Got mild but it still had plenty of heat. It was a little dry but had great flavor. Onion rings were plentiful and decent but overcooked. My appetite was sufficiently satisfied.

It was my first time eating Nashville cuisine and I was very impressed. The staff was extremely welcoming and the restaurant was spotless. I got the mild chicken sandwich and it was perfect, I will probably kick it up a notch on my next visit. The coleslaw paired perfectly with the seasoning and spice of the chicken. The cornbread mac and cheese was insanely good, it was a lot of food for me but couldn’t help but eat every last bite. I would highly recommend Monroe’s Hot Chicken!

  • Joshua Hedgecock

I had the "extra hot" chicken sandwich with pickles and coleslaw with crinkle frys on the side. The sandwich was really good. The spice level for me was perfect (I recommend going with a lower level heat if you aren't used to fairly spicy food). The fries were hot and fresh! Would go again but it's such a long drive. Everything was definitely on spot at this restaurant. I ordered a fried chicken sandwich and it was flavor. I had mild sauce which had a little kick but that's what I was looking for. Their mild sauce was actually mild and not regular. If I lived here and worked downtown this would definitely be my lunch spot. Service was good and quick. The music was a plus for me. Monroe’s chicken has the best chicken tenders I’ve ever ate! I ordered the 3 piece chicken tenders & fries (mild) the portion was big enough for 2 people. I loved every bit of what I ate. The only thing that I wish would change was that it took over half hour to get my meal. I mean it’s that popular, busy & delicious but it felt like forever to get my food. Other that how long it took I will definitely come back again to enjoy their delicious menu!

  • Brandon S

Had this for the first time recently. We really liked it, and definitely want to go back! The chicken fingers were large, as was the sandwich. Everything was fresh, including the delicious fries. Came back a second time and got “hot” which wasn’t as spicy. “Extra Hot” will be my order going forward.

For those that don't know, I like fried chicken. Unfortunately, I can no longer have it unless it's GF. Well, it turns out that this place offers a GF option, which I took advantage of. Also, I had the cole slaw which was very tasty. Go here, get good food, eat and then leave. Or grab yours to go, either way, you won't be disappointed. Plenty of seating just before noon today.

I got the overloaded chicken sandwich with hot Cheetos and Mac n cheese. It looked so amazing so I had to try it. What can I say except it looks way better than it tastes. The Mac n cheese is bland and the chicken itself is very dry and soggy. It doesn’t have the crispy skin that a fried chicken sandwich should have. The flavor was lackluster with most of it coming from the hot Cheetos. Honestly a huge miss

If you are the type of person seeking spicy eats look no further, "What the Cluck" lives up to its name. The chicken is juicy, tender and crispy just as Hot Chicken should be. The Belgian sandwich is huge and comes with maple syrup on the side so you can design your level of "sweet-heat" to your liking. Staff was friendly and the restaurant was clean and had a unique vibe. Great spot overall!!

I’m a big fan of MONROE’S. However, I’m very disappointed with our orders today. Our chicken was so hard we couldn’t even bite it! I would’ve called them and took it back, but it was closed. Great vibes, the people working there all where very friendly. Best chicken in town and they dont play with the spicy levels I was crying at "burn baby burn (hot level)". I took my kids and they do have a no heat "southern style" sandwich and tenders.

Good and satisfying. Just had a sandwich and potato salad. Wish the price point was lower or there was a combo option with the sandwich ($16 for the two). The chicken breast was as big as my hand. And the hot spice was more of a medium for my taste. Friendly staff. Would definitely go back to try other things.
