I am completely and utterly disgusted with the lack of care given to our beloved family. For generations my family has entrusted Mt Olivet cemetery to care for our family members final resting place, specifically section 19. It has declined rapidly over the past few years. Grounds are not being kept up. The roads are crumbling and deteriorating. Head stones over turned, broken and just left. My grandmothers service was December 8th 2022. Her grave side service was a complete disaster. We had gotten a lot of rain that week. They did not make an attempt to contact us to make us aware of the declining ground conditions or safety hazards that arose prior to us arriving. When we arrived for grave side services following the hurst, we were informed that her grave had collapsed. Her service was delayed for nearly an hour. There was not a safe path created for her pallbearers to get the casket to grave. They slipped and slid down a hill due to grounds being so muddy nearly dropping her casket. When anchoring her casket into the ground, the equipment they used to hoist her down was unstable, they used old plywood to grip the feet of the equipment. It was so unstable that you could see the legs shaking, slipping and nearly giving way. Instead of being able to process and grieve her passing, we were all horrified and praying that would indeed get her into the grave. The groundsmen were rude and very disrespectful. When we tried to thank them for their efforts, they even replied ( I’m just ready to get this over with). We noticed at the time, that my fathers headmarker and had been moved with the vase knocked off. They assured us that it would be put back in place and fixed. We tried to be as understanding as we possibly could. We are aware that no one can control the weather. Today 1-11-23, a month and three days later, I go to visit their gravesite and take flowers to my father’s and grandmothers grave, I was in total disbelief that not only did the groundsmen leave the burial site in a total disarray, but they had not even bothered placing the head-makers back in place, fixing the broken vases, or even make an attempt to repair the grounds at all. They even tossed her floral spray on someone else’s headstone. This is completely unacceptable, a total disregard to the families and their loved ones. I can not even put flowers out or have the company come out to finalize her marker. There was absolutely no compassion, apologies, or timeline given on when this will be corrected and resolved. This is definitely not the place you should choose to lay your family members to rest.
I have buried most of my family… Father was buried less than a month ago… So I went with my best friend to support her and listen in on what all was happening with her husband’s funeral and burial. The treatment she got at the front door was awful and unacceptable for a grieving widow, she has not gone through this before.. the front desk male was not comforting and unprofessional (this is their profession) In dealing with grieving people stated “I cannot help you opie is not here , your husband is not here he is in cold storage at our Woodlawn property along with his belongings there is no one here to help you” Until stated we have money… “ I can take your money “ And then he made copies for 2 forms of payment when there was 3, two money orders and a business check…we had to show him there was 3 forms of payment…he was very short and wanted us out of there I have been in the customer service industry for over 29 years but in no way do you treat someone this way ESPECIALLY when there is a death. This is what I personally witnessed… Another fact to go along with this mistreatment is there is no plot to put the deceased in… after all the money has been paid and we have been waiting for almost a month…Mt olivet has put the arrangements on hold until the land surveyor can track what has happened to his plot that is paid for and owned. I do not recommend anyone to be buried here or to do any final arrangements with this place.
I cannot express how deeply disappointed I am in my experience with this facility. The planning was much like a used-car sales high pressure tactic. We were left in a room for SIX HOURS. I was left in the lobby for 45 minutes with our loved one's clothing until I finally broke down crying. But, after being told they had everything they needed, we were called to come back immediately AFTER ALMOST 7 HOURS!! After giving them extremely detailed written information about where, when, and who would perform the funeral and how it would be conducted and AFTER pre-paying, the wrong church was listed on the website for the funeral, the wrong date, and flowers from the US Attorney General and others were sent to the wrong church..by the time our loved one arrived I couldn't be certain of whom was in the casket. This is how traumatized I was by this experience. But, it didn't stop there! After the funeral, a stone that was pre-selected and paid in full was never laid. Excuses and blame was passed from person to person leaving the grave unmarked for almost a year. They made promises they did not keep and never made it right. After calling, writing, showing up in person repeatedly-- none of the issues were addressed. A full TEN MONTHS after the burial, the stone had still not been set as promised. It finally took a state investigation to get the problem resolved. This should never happen to another grieving family.
I lost my brother in 2007 and they were amazing. Michael was wonderful helpped us so much. There was a beautiful service and they were with us every step. Gave us so much care. Another lady from there even gave me my sister and father a rose and a story behind it. Meant so much. I cant say anything negative really. The only one thing is the make up had to be touched up but even so michael was on it and went over and beyond to make my brother look perfect. The worst day of my life so far (god forbid) but they made it so much easier to deal with. THANK YOU to everyone that was there and helped us. Everytime we visit my brother (which is very often) its so clean and looks amazing. Everything weve left for him is always still there, where alot of places throw things away after a while.. i have an angle up there thats been there this whole time. 8 years later. Also, that christmas after he died.. they invited us to a memorial were we all lite candles and had Christmas songs.. aahhh... love them. Just cant say how wonderful they are enough.
I can’t say enough great things about Mount Olivet . For the first time I had to deal with everything on my own and had no clue what to do . The staff here was so amazing, passionate and caring . Samual and Ali sat down with me to insure they would do everything on their power to help in any way they could and they did just that . It’s so hard trying to grieve and deal with all the arrangements but they were there every step of the way to help me . Laying my father to rest was one one the hardest things I have ever had to do but if I had a choice to go here or somewhere else i would choose mount Olivet, not only are the people amazing but the entire place is so beautiful and calming . Thank you to everyone who made this part so much easier than I thought it would be !!
After going to see my parents and a sister 3 times since July the grounds look like no one takes pride or has respect for those who lay there anymore. My brother told me he will go there and weed eat around their headstones and make it look better. He shouldn't have to do that and mowing should not be an issue as ruts around sunken headstones shouldn't be an issue either but i guess they have too much on their plates. To bad corporate America runs this place now.
All members of the staff at Mt. Olivet were so professional... and so kind, interested and helpful. Mary Anne and Janet helped me through a very difficult time in making selections and decisions. It was much easier than I thought it would be. The services went so well, and the day could not have been more perfect. From start to finish, they treated my mother with such respect and dignity.
I would personally like to thank Paul, Butch and Roy for giving me a tour of their beautiful facility. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. Very positive atmosphere and I would definitely recommend them to take care of any of my family or friends; not to mention how beautiful the cemetery was. Thank you all very much!
Not cheap, but you absolutely get what you pay for. The staff at Mt. Olivet were exemplary when handling the passing of my father. They went out of their way to make everyone comfortable. Any and all questions were answered immediately and fully. Very kind people, beautiful cemetery. Recommended.
From one funeral director to another I would like to say that Mr. James R. "Opie" Padgett was very attentive and professional to the needs of the Johnason family. I would highly recommend Mount Olivet Funeral Home and Cemetery to any family. Michael Cox Funeral Director Elmwood Chapel.
Respectful and considerate and upfront about what can be done during the stay-at-home orders in Davidson. I appreciate knowing upfront in a loving way. I appreciate their response to families in a time that we are current in as a country.
I had a simply and efficiently working experience with Robert Fuqua and his staff. The site was well designed for our service and details were ALL covered. I did not have to worry about anything during a time of bereavement.
The personal at Mount Olivet were very professional and caring. They went beyond my expectations and me and my family feel at home. Their gracious attitude helped ease our great burden.
I was surprised as I visited my mother and father's grave on memorial day weekend to find I had to stand in ankle deep grass. I'm disappointed at the care given to the grounds.
My mother had everything set up. All the family needed was guidance from the Mount Olivet staff. We got that in spads. Under the circumstances it was a very good experience.
Responded so nicely to our needs and the grounds crew were so nice when we lingered after the burial and did not rush us even though it was late in the day.
I needed information about burial vs cremation. I have a plot. I spoke to a representative who referred me to a funeral director who did not call me back.
I worked here in the late 70's. It was a pleasure to help maintain the grounds and walk amongst so much history each day. A beautiful cemetery.
It was a pleasure to work with Natalie Crow today to get my father’s marker ordered. She is a wealth of knowledge and pleasure to work with.
This place was one of the most beautiful cemeteries I’ve ever seen! Sooo cool. So many beautiful building and an easy self guided tour.
Some of the most beautiful memorials I have ever seen! Very well maintained , I could spend days looking at and reading everything
My favorite cemetery in Middle Tennessee. Beautiful and fascinating monuments. Lots of Tennessee & Nashville history.
The history of this place and the work that went into some of the monuments is incredible.
