At first glance you go wow! It's like Frank Lloyd Wright's Johnson Wax meets the Acropolis. Sadly, the day I visited I found it's interior unusable! I was looking for a quiet place to study but found nothing! I seemed half the library was being run like a Montessori school, Lot's of kids talking loudly and permissive parents oblivious to the fact they were in a library. Still, looked around and could find no place to sit except at a communal table with bright, harsh sunlight and a lot of heat gain. I saw several small private rooms empty (no windows) but a sign said to ask for permission to use them. When I did, the librarian checked the log and told me they were reserved! WTH. I took my reading material out of the main space to a grand stairway that offered relief from the harsh sunlight. It was much cooler and there were benches. Thinking I'd found a quiet, cool place to study I soon realized the glass interior wall didn't go all the way to the ceiling and all the kid noises entered the space and then several patrons entered the space to talk loudly on their cell phones! I left a library, on a sunny, cool day unable to use it! Unbelievable.

I love reading reviews of this place by people who hate kids, because this place sustained my family spiritually through some tough times. I will forever be grateful to the knowledgeable and gentle staff, who calmly and compassionately dismissed my nervous apologies while they joyfully (and loudly) immersed themselves in their excitement over reading. I will never forget the librarians who kindly read to my kids while I stressed over a resume during a job search. This place is a refuge for the community. I cannot express my appreciation for the team here, or the fantastic library system. The hold system can get you any book you need. I am also grateful for the ongoing investment in virtual materials, which has put a wealth of resources within reach. Thank you, Hillsdale. You have made the neighborhood a better place and improved the lives of my family members.

I really love the Multnomah County Library system and this one is nice. The parking isn't that great though, but I find myself just coming in for books i reserved online and taking off anyway. This is a great library system. This building itself is very nice, even though it isn't the largest. It doesn't have to be large, however, for exactly the reason I come in. Staff is very friendly as well.

I've lived in many places and have been a member of many libraries. But, the most impressive group of libraries I have found yet are the Multnomah County Libraries. The speed in which I get books that I put on hold is excellent and the librarians are helpful and courteous. In addition, there have been very few situations where they don't have a book that I am looking for.

Way too loud! Babys crying? Kids running around screaming? Multiple cell phones on loud and people on their cell phones talking aloud. I am apalled... I have never experienced a library with such noise. Its a shame that I'll end up somewhere else when this is in my neighborhood. First time here. Probably the last.

Everything you need from a public library space is here -- large and small meeting rooms, children's book and media area, periodicals, DVDs and CDs, online computer access and printing, reference -- and a convenient neighborhood pick-up location for holds. An elevator from the garage makes parking quick and easy.

Really nice inside. What I personally do is put anything I want on hold online, and just pick them up when they arrive at my branch, which works wonderfully if you don't need/want to browse but know exactly what you want and need to quickly be in and out.

Two librarians offered their help when I had my nephews at Hillsdale branch today. Was thrilled when Sheri (sp?) offered free books to launch Black History month. I didn't realize until after we left that we were lucky to be there on the right day.

Don't know why exactly but they recently removed about a third of their internet computers at this library! They were always in use and now they just have empty tables where there were active computer users. Not a great Resource anymore

Daycare for hillsdale yuppie offspring. Put earbuds in to avoid screaming brats, but negligent parents still let them run around like it's a playground. Also, stingy with the heat; wear a sweater. Otherwise, fine, I guess.

Gotta say, this has got to be my favorite library in the city. It's clean, the layout makes sense, they have a lot of good books, and overall it's just top tier. They even did a good job during the pandemic, kudos to them.

Anyone who loves reading will love this library. It's a nice, clean (by library standards) building, and has a pretty decent selection of books. They also do ebook rentals and mp3 downloads as well. Very hip.

Small but very beautiful library. Great little kids area. I just stopped by to use the computers for job applications and they were extremely helpful in getting me set up. And ended up getting a job too.

Great space, lovely people working and volunteering. Best in city tech, mostly newer equipment. But is barely utilized. Behind St Johns and Woodstock, for example, in classes groups and events.

This branch is clean, well lit, and the staff are helpful. I wish that the collections were larger and that this branch were open for more hours, but that's a funding issue, no doubt.

  • Matthew

Great library, absolutely not a quiet space, lots of people having coffee shop volume conversations and at least one or two kids at full volume.
