"I really like the concept of NU Grocery and they are working hard to help reduce waste and educate people about the impacts shopping choices make on the environment"
"The most wonderful place in all of Ottawa! We are long time supporters of this excellent local business"
"While some prices are comparable to other natural or environmental focused stores, some of the beauty and household prices are astronomical, up to four times the price of similar products that come packaged"
"I've been going to Nu since I first moved to Ottawa, and it's one of my favourite business' in town"
Just visited this place earlier today. My first impression was ‘wow, what a fantastic store. Definitely coming back here.’ Everything looked great, and I was excited to see many vegan groceries available. However after a couple of minutes I realised that the shopping ‘experience’ was very poor for new shoppers who’ve never shopped at a zero waste store before. There were no clear instructions anywhere, making it a confusing and stressful endeavour (with the exception of the male shopping assistant who was quite helpful when I asked him questions). When I went to the checkout counter, the extremely rude blonde woman at the cash counter rolled her eyes and huffed and puffed when I couldn’t hear her numerous questions clearly over her mask. She then asked me ‘the weight of my containers’ which I obviously had no idea about because no one told me I needed to weigh my containers when I entered the shop. She then looked surprised when I said I was new to the store and had no context about all their rules. Her service was terrible overall and it’s too bad because I really liked their products. Overall I’d rate this as a judgemental, pretentious and uppity place that I’d never go back to again!
I really like the concept of NU Grocery and they are working hard to help reduce waste and educate people about the impacts shopping choices make on the environment. There is an interesting range of products available, with many Canadian-made options -- which is a definite plus. This is why the shop gets a good three stars! It is worth checking the store out. However, I have been visiting the shop off and on for about 4 months now and I have had a mixed customer service experience (nothing some training and supervision can't fix though). I will be returning because of the good products.
The most wonderful place in all of Ottawa! We are long time supporters of this excellent local business. We almost exclusively do all of our shopping here. Both locations are equally wonderful. The staff are incredible. I cannot rave enough about the welcoming vibes, selection of products, responsiveness to my questions on instagram, etc. etc. Nu has changed my life and shopping there is a ritual that I always look forward to (even during the Covid pandemic). Thanks for everything you do!
While some prices are comparable to other natural or environmental focused stores, some of the beauty and household prices are astronomical, up to four times the price of similar products that come packaged. It is simply not sustainable for so many of us, who would like to reduce our plastic consumption. At least bulk food is still an economical and environmentally beneficial option.
I've been going to Nu since I first moved to Ottawa, and it's one of my favourite business' in town. It has incredibly friendly staff and really well-sourced food items. I also love the body care stuff and how local it is. It feels good to shop there and make the little impact I can on having less packaging waste. Thanks Nu!
Best zero waste store I’ve been to! Everything you need in one place for groceries, bathroom and home essentials. Also very impressed that they continue to find efficient ways to get through covid without resorting to bagging everything. Store is clean and staff are very kind and helpful.
Great spot to have in the neighbourhood. I'll start getting more stuff from here instead of Loblaws when they have it. The staff kindly answered my first-timer questions and I was able to get my shopping done quickly and efficiently. Also felt comfortable in there COVID-wise.
This place is amazing! So many different options. Well laid out and the process is so easy. It makes zero waste grocery shopping not only a reality but an enjoyable experience. We just moved to the area and will be getting as many of our groceries as we can from this store.
One of the few places in Ottawa that are truly as close to zero packaging as possible. Very fresh, very good. Attentive, courteous and friendly people, wide range of products with new additions on a regular basis. Bring your own containers, you can weigh them in store.
I love shopping at Nu! Lots of good quality items to buy from here and it's a great way to reduce plastics use. We come here for a lot of our staple items, and honestly even things like ketchup are just better quality than standard packaged bottles at regular stores.
Love the concept but a grocery store with zero parking is ridiculous. What a waste of my time driving there only to find no parking whatsoever. And I can't carry 3+ bags of groceries 500m down the street or wherever there even is parking, cause I couldn't find any.
I have to say that almost every time i am in the store i find the staff highly variable from OK to being reminiscent of the famous soup episode on Seinfeld. Produce is mediocre and prepared foods insipid. i only go there if there are absolutely no other options.
I highly recommend going shopping there if you're trying to cut back on plastic waste. Everything is simple and convenient and very well thought out. They had way more stuff then expected and prices were reasonable. The staff was really friendly as well …
Fantastic waste-free grocery store with a wide variety of staples, spices, soaps and snacks. Always worth a visit and helpful, friendly staff are always willing to help. The baked goods are always a great choice, and the samosas and pakoras are some of my favs
Such a smart and innovative store. Bring your own container or rent one for a low price, get money back for renting container when returned. Great variety of foods, soaps, oils. If you want to help make a change, this is a must go for regular shopping
I love all of the products they carry especially the almond blossom scented soaps!! I usually get their local veggies and fill up on pantry bulk products here weekly. Love what they’re doing to reduce our impact on the environment!
Great service, particularly when I'm new to the concept. The person behind the counter explained to me every detail about the product, including the best way to cook it. Will become a regular to this store.
Very good varieties of food, fresh and frozen, spices and sauces, even snacks and goodies! Update: now with Mooshu ice cream! Update: cookies and chips are yummy, healthy and fairly priced!
I love having a store where you don't end up contributing to the world's plastic waste problem! If all grocery stores were a little more like NU, the world would be a better place.
Great selection of fresh organic spices, dry goods, organic coffee beans, natural soaps and love that they carry Little Stream Bakery bread from Perth , Ontarii O
This grocery store is lovely - makes grocery shopping feel pleasant, rather than a chore. The store is very clean and pretty, and all the staff are super helpful.
They only let a few people in the store and have many precautions in place so you can feel safe shopping. Bring your own containers and weigh them upon arrival.
Environmental friendly store. It works on a plastic bag free and no prepackaged food, excellent option if do you want to contribute with the environment
People are really nice and helpful. A little place with just the right things to get you through a few meals. Sourdough bread was awesome.
Really clean and open space with lots of variety of bulk, baked and local artisan products. Staff is young and vibrant and super helpful.
Produce quality is good. They need to work on stock availability, but this has improved since they opened. Staff are friendly.
Great, low packaging grocery store. Got anything from frozen goods to household items like soap and toothpaste tablets.
Love Nugrocery !! Everytime I go the staff is super friendly and helpful. Best place for your zero waste shopping.
Love this place! All the products are amazing and waste free. The staff is always super warm and helpful
Clean and safe environment. Polite team. All the ingredients you need to make cooking and baking easy.
I love this store! The staff is very knowledgeable and attentive and the product selection is great!
The staff were friendly and helpful, and there was a wider variety of products than I expected.
Fabulous staff, zero waste grocery store. Makes me feel good about purchasing for the planet!
Great shopping experience, clean, lots of variety but no five star because it's so expensive.
I love this place! They make zero-waste shopping so convenient. Both locations are great!
This grocery store is the cleanest I've ever stepped into through my 45 years of life.
Wish there was a little more and a little less pricey but great store and nice staff
Super helpful, great selections and great system - will be shopping there a lot!!
Insanely clean and organized! Kudos to the owners and her colleagues.
I really liked the store and the zero waste. A little pricey though.
Super good place. Staff is friendly. I will go there again.
Everything reuseable at the Nugrocery... nice to see that.
Just as great as the one on Wellington. Congrats!
Our go to place for all things zero/low waste.
Good selection of items and friendly staff.
Selection is ok. Staff very helpful.
Great store! Waste free shopping.
I love plastic free items!
Pricey but ok
