Three experiences, all bad. 1. ER - I went in after covid 19 vaccination with aching chest pain around my heart. Took them 10 hours in ER before they ran tests, most of those waiting in pain, and only after I fainted in ER. Tests noted a lot of swelling around the heart, told to go chemist for aspirin, no other information. 2. Birthing Unit/ICU/Midwives - Wife did antenatal appointments with midwives. Dianne was the main midwife each week along a student. The student looked after us better than the main midwife did. Wife developed lots of swelling, cracking headaches, and dizziness from 25 weeks onwards. At 30 weeks onwards she couldn't function, so had to leave work. Dianne recommended acupuncture as treatment for swelling. At full term our concerns were again ignored that wife was not looking normal or feeling well at all. Three days of declining health, my wife had spent several hours in bed crying and screaming, and so rushed her down to hospital. They made a decision to immediately induce and start birth, stating midwives should have picked up on this week's ago. Progression was very quick but epidural failed to work two times, wife completely lost her vision and began seizing on table. Midwives just urged her to push, and a team of doctors came in and took over. Several of them were lovely and took a photo post birth, though its clear from the photos my wife is absolutely not well, its a few photos of our baby when he was first born. Things progressed shortly after everyone had left as one of the midwives made my wife get up for a shower, she said she wasn't feeling up to it but had to go, shortly after standing she went into a full seizure with me and baby in the room. Room filled with 20 nurses and doctors who made me leave, and tended to my wife. There was a lot of screaming and shouting, they rushed her off to ICU - around an hour later was allowed down to see her. Doctors were furious, wife was told she had pre-eclampsia which went undiagnosed, and almost killed her. Spent 4 days in ICU with very little midwife, or maternal support. Baby was in, and out of ICU the whole time. Had some great people there like Charlie, and Debbie who actually understood my wife had just given birth, and would allow baby to stay. Breastfeeding was difficult with all the wires but my wife wanted to persist. One of the nicer ICU doctors told my wife to keep up breastfeeding, or midwives will discharge baby. Midwives refused to walk down to ICU until we lost our temper newborn hadnt fed for close to 6 hours, they huffed and puffed the whole way, saying we should use formula because they can't help her in ICU. Wife got a little better over time with magnesium sulphate, but head doctors wanted to reduce her dosage. Sometime in the day it was reset back up high and no one checked. Next morning head doctors were blasting staff over her care and failure to pick up on the dosages. Wife had another, smaller, seizure going to shower after 4 days, after a large blood clot came out in shower. Lucky Charlie had baby at the time and I was able to help keep her from falling head first on tiles. Doctors attributed the smaller seizure to the blood loss, and she was sent to midwives, who discharged her the same day. Very little documented. All the while I was basically a single parent for bub, and caring for my wife as well... Lots of careful home care, but no one from hospital came to check on her stitches from birth which were causing discomfort. Only when a community nurse came out she checked and recommended going to GP rather than return to Nepean. All in all, it was a bloody challenging time... Some good nurses, and doctors mentioned above, but a lot of bloody awful ones who very nearly lost my wife, and baby. 3 - ER - Shortly after wife gave birth, mother in law, who we were staying with at the time presented to ER with redness in her face. She waited many hours like I did, but was sent home for rest, with baby, wife and me. Turns out she had highly contagious shingles which can cause measles, and is deadly to newborns. We isolated. #Nepean
I am in Nepean Hospital ATM for over 3 weeks and there are some amazing staff. But ALOT also needs to be changed. - The food is appaling. Either some outsourced frozen rubbish or some form of "meat" with pumpkin mashed like baby food and mashed potato. Frozen peas and corn. If you order the salad 80 percent is from a can that they put on the plate. These people make salad like they are an alien that has never heard of the word. REGARDLESS which salad you order you receive canned beetroot, canned pineapple, canned asparagus, canned corn, canned kidney beans, 3 slices of fresh cucumber (because no-one has figured out yet how to can that lol), ONE thin slice of fresh capsicum (!), one slice of fresh orange. It is SO RANDOM! So if you order the cheese salad you ALWAYS receive the EXACT above + tasty cheese slices, if you order the chicken salad you receive the above+ chicken, and so on !! No matter what you order....it's is low nutrition. - There is no CULTURAL AWARENESS/options about the food choices at all. They don't seem to understand that not everyone is an aussie who eats sandwiches! Please make some other cultures food and understand that some of us don't/won't eat sandwiches! - Western Sydney has one of the highest type 2 diabetes problem...yet the hospital food here ironically is designed to give people Diabetes! IOW, every day for lunch AND dinner people are asked "do you want dessert"?! Which is some form of cake, custard etc. Is it normal for Aussie background people to eat so much "desserts"?! Sweets should be something people have when they feel like it, not something that you have on a schedule! - I propose that patients are only asked if they want "dessert" every 4 days (better still let's scrap the term dessert and change it to snack) every FOUR days, not twice daily! Or alternatively, that the "dessert" is a choice of jelly, nut bar or veggie chips 3 days and then a cake option only the foruth day. - Speaking of cakes....the cakes actually are surprisingly taste good! Because they are outsourced to Homebush cake company. Well done Homebush cakes. - I understand that public hospitals only have a budget of $4 per patient per meal ....$11 inclusive of staff salary and packaging etc. So i don't totally blame them for the above issues. - But food is medicine and to heal patients need foods like fruit salad with melons....not just an apple or banana. Avocados, olives, lettuce etc. - Begging the gov for more food budget rarely works so I propose that money is RECOUPED from other areas. Namely, how much money is wasted on type 2 diabetes admissions and it's complications! Start by not adding fuel to the fire by giving too much desserts in the hospital! Then the gov should tax the **** out of KFC and McDonald's in high diabetes areas like western suburbs. The stores will compensate by raising the prices through the roof...making the fast food unaffordable by residents. Win, win. Spend more money on preventative health for obesity. Set targets for weight loss goals for western suburb populations. Use physios, personal trainers, innovative dance classes etc. Resident will be slimmer...less type 2 diabetes. Get this issue under control and the money that would have be used on hospital admission of these patients can be used on meal budget instead. - Next suggestion. Decrease the "wastage"of money. IOW, many times patients need multiple readmissions due to poor clinical decisions by medical staff etc. This issue is complex but money can be recouped this way for food budget etc. BUT this involves doctors listening, removing egos etc. Unfortunately there is still a medical culture which needs to change. I will make a review for the clinical care side of things once I have been discharged:)
Having given birth via c-section (first time) my discharge and recovery experience was terrible. Majority of the nurses/midwives who attended to me were wonderful, kind, understanding and patient however two midwives overshadowed the good part of my experience. They rushed the recovery process pushing me to walk/stand through severe pain & compared my experience to other women who'd also given birth via c-section. I raised this severe pain in every attempt but kept being rushed into moving & standing. I felt that my pain was not normal & explained this to the nurse (also one of the two midwives who rushed me to move about) who discharged me. She did not ask if I was ready to be discharged but said that I'd be discharged that very afternoon despite my struggle to stand and walk. She also advised that I should go down and wait for my pickup person at another part at the lower level which I then asked if she needed the room vacant immediately. She said they did not, so I told her I would not leave the room until my pickup person arrived. Not every woman's c-section pain is the same as I would learn that my struggle and pain was also due to a kidney infection which a lovely midwife who came for a home visit during the week of being discharged suspected by the way I described my pain, the way I struggled to move about and her experience with a similar mother she'd visited in the past. She suggested I call postnatal again and return to the hospital. I took her advice and called postnatal but was dismissed and it was suggested I visit my GP instead or go to ER and go through the process again to be seen. My GP came for a home visit and just as sure as the midwife had suspected it was indeed kidney infection. All up I was bedridden for up to 7 weeks upon discharge. Leaving the hospital, we asked if there was a shorter route for us, perhaps an exception to exit through the way we entered but we were told by the midwife at the desk that it wasn't possible. We also asked for a wheelchair but wheelchairs needed to be prepared for in advance so we were told. Not even halfway to the carpark I couldn't take it having stopped many times for me to rest, I called the maternity ward again and told them who I was and that I had just left the ward a few minutes ago and really needed a wheelchair. I was told the same thing, and to go walk to the closed volunteer information desk instead and they could organise it. My husband went to the volunteer desk and returned to say that no-one was there. Hesitantly and in pain we walked over together again and stood there for some time hoping someone would turn up to attend to the desk but to no avail. I called a second time to the ward and the same midwife who answered previously said she would try to get a wheelchair but that it might take awhile and to just wait where we were BUT then before hanging up said "but I can't guarantee a wheelchair..." Frustrated at the whole experience I told my husband that I'll just soldier through to the car park and what should have take us at least 5-10mins to the car became at least 45mins due to my struggle to walk. You need to have wheelchairs on standby. At a hospital I have never heard of a more ridiculous process than this. If you have access to CCTV footage I hope you can view my struggle during my attempt to get to the car park and get an understanding of the experience I had getting from the ward to the car park. Thank you to the team who attended to me from the moment I checked in, pre and post theatre team and the midwives who were compassionate and patient - I cannot fault them just because of the few who were insensitive to my situation.
Recently had my baby there and I'm traumatised by the experience. First of all would like to say there was 5 staff who were absolutely wonderful and were the only good part of my experience. Dr Sam and a younger Indian male doctor who was new and I didn't catch the name of were were both absolutely amazing and extremely caring and also midwife Bronte was beautiful. I had 2 failed inductions before I had a ceserean. Was told my induction 'probably' worked and that the next day they would break my waters and then found that no it didn't work so they could try a 3rd time or do a cesearian so I opted for the cesearian. I was fasting from midnight the night before and ended up fasting till about 8pm the next day because my surgery was so late and noone could give me updates on when it would be. Was also told I could have sips of water by multiple staff then got to go into surgery and was told that oh no I shouldn't have had water and that they would have to check if my surgery could go ahead. The nurse looking after me in prenatal ward was nice but it was evident they were so short-staffed she didn't know what day it was. The anitheist introduced himself to me then came back and said oh sorry I have to go home then came back again and said they convinced me to stay like how unprofessional I literally thought he was joking. The team that did my cesearian including Dr Sam and midwife Bronte were amazing and made me so comfortable and looked after. Got back to the postnatal ward and that night I dealt with the most horrible midwives. I was left to sit in my own blood on several occasions whilst waiting for them and then they made a report about me with false informatiom trying to make out something was wrong with me because I had enough of waiting for them to come help me and threw my gown and blood covered bed sheets on the floor. Only found out that they had made this report about me as another midwife told me the next day and then was offered counselling for an issue that I don't have. My baby got moved to nicu the next day and I discharged myself as I refused to stay in that horrible place another day especially without my baby. I was given pain relief that was not even documented. My stay in the postnatal ward with their horrible staff left me extremely distressed. After my daughter left nicu she was transferred to the children's ward and majority of the staff there were lovely. Nurses Simone and Sharon were the most beautiful ladies who helped care for my baby with the utmost care. However the doctors were extremely unhelpful. My baby spent 3 days there and noone could tell me what they thought was the issue and when I suggested strategies we could try they were not interested. Got so much conflicting information from different doctors and when my husband said that the doctor simply said sorry for that. A female Indian doctor told another woman in the same room as me these exact words 'if you want a smart child then breastfeed them' how disgraceful and condescendingly rude to women who cannot breastfeed. I feel for the nice staff working there who have to work with these other horrible incompetent people.
Never will I ever bring my children here again, It all has ended with a written complaint to the Health Care Complaints Commission, Speaking with the head of paediatrics and the nurse unit Mgr. Biggest lack of care to our ex-premmie daughter. Please if you wish to receive the best care for you child regardless if they are prone to respiratory illnesses or not & requiring oxygen. Please make that little bit further trip straight to Westmead Children's Hospital. I beg you. The nurses are good, very caring and attentive and work way harder than some doctors. Unfortunately they are just running of instruction from these few quack of doctors. I will give a massive praise to Dr Kerry Brown who is my daughters outside hospital Pediatrician who saved all this mess.. I feel sorry he has to work with such incompetent so called degreed doctors. If you do choose to use this hospital for your child def recommend ONLY DR KERRY BROWN. Due to the incompetence, my daughter has now been in hospital going on day 9 due to massive acknowledge mistakes and improper care. Dragged out because they are useless. 2 days not eating or drinking and was dehydrated for two whole days. Also enlarged tonsils and red raw throat not eating and drinking very uncomfy, won't give antibiotics. says they will chart regular pain relief and DIDN'T. Ohhh not to mention was admitted Thursday, up on ward Friday. Taken off Highflow 9L completely and then hyped up on regular 2-3 hour 6 puffs of ventilin, sent home at 5pm saturday. Not a true representation of her overall health as its a quick fix that too hypes the child up. Not true results as its a quick aid. Cheat way to send kids home. She was back her the very next day at lunch time. DISGRACEFUL! want to see a mother who goes off her nut because her 18 month old isn't being looked after? Just do all these steps and then wonder why your being yelled at! Nepean your hospital staff need course refreshers.
Arrived at 3pm after being sent by a doctor with a high suspicion of appendicitis. Got put in the normal waiting room and not as a priority. An hour later a nurse took my blood for testing and she was meant to put in the cannula but she said she couldn’t get it in yet managed to get the blood out. After getting admitted, the offered pain killers. They took about 15 minutes to come over and give the pain killers through the cannula, but the noticed the cannula wasn’t there. It then took over 1.5 hours of back and forth for them to finally get me the cannula and then give me the pain killers. I was then asked not to eat or drink until further notice and they confirmed it was appendicitis. When the staff changed shifts some guy in the surgeon team was trying to convince everyone it’s not appendicitis even thought several nurses and 2 doctors said it is. Then he said stay over night and get a CT asap but by 7am. At 9:30 I have told the staff if a doctor doesn’t come to see me I’m leaving. They said they are coming now. 11am I am discharging myself as no one has seen me still. Nepean hospital is chaos and not recommended for anyone that wants answers and action done. Absolute disgrace - go to Mt Druitt or Blacktown hospital, sure it will be better than this place.
The most detailed review is here : The new hospital is a brilliant 13 story high building, the mobile phone charging station is a nice touch. The doctors, admin, security, cleaners, caretakers and of course the Nurses are super professional here When it comes to parking it's a nightmare, I didn't see one that is close to the emergency entry, I know there is one on each corner but the walking distance in an emergency situation doesn't make sense. When it comes to the seating it's a 90 degrees only chairs that make you get a stiff back in minutes, the emergency is without a cafeteria like in the old hospital nor cafe so you can eat and drink while waiting for HOURS to be treated or if you have someone with you that needs anything, what is available though is one water dispenser, one drinks vending machine with couple of unhealthy options, a snacks vending machine also contains nothing that makes you satisfied enough to wait longer .. so please look after the people who come in pain and. Suffering, don't ask us to wait for hours without even have decent snacks nor drinks.. we are going to pay for it guys
The most pathetic hospital i have ever seen. Dropped off my wife and 6 months old baby at 8PM last night. She was seen and told to wait outside for a doctor. She was outside till 8:30am this morning waiting. A 12 hour wait with a 6 months old baby. Then when she was called in a doctor saw her and said we can't do anything here you have to take him to Westmead children hospital. When she asked when will be transferred? she was told that she will have to make her own way there. The doctor told her we will give him some antibiotics and the paperwork and you can leave. She waited from 9:00AM till 12PM and yet no antibiotics had been administered. She approached the nurse to ask how long before they give him the medicine so she could leave to Westmead? This is what she was told. " We cant find anyone to bring the antibiotics, so go to Westmead hospital and ask them to give it to him there. She called me in tears over the phone. Spent 16 hours at the hospital waiting for treatment for a 6 months old baby and absolutely nothing was done. Whoever is running that hospital needs to be shown the door.
My mum was in the oncology ward for 6 weeks. She had about 4 showers the entire time she was there (2 of which I gave her). The nurses said they didn't have time to give her a shower and opted for bed baths despite my mum requesting a shower. My mum was often distressed when I visited her in the mornings due to nurses not answering the buzzers during the night and the loud noises and talking they made during the night which prevented my mum from sleeping well. One nurse told my mum to go to the toilet in her pad. This was said in front of me. The jr doctor in charge of mums care was terrible. When mum was dying he would pat me on the shoulder saying 'not long now' in front of my family and mum. He never answered questions or gave us paperwork when asked during mums stay. I have a lot of trauma from what went on at this hospital. The only good drs were the palative care team.
2010. Almost sliced the end off me 4th digit on me right hand, while cutting tomatoes. Went to Nepean AE, waited a few hours, the nurses were great. 4- 5 stitches, bandages, rode me pushy back home. Easy as. I love those overworked, beautiful people. It's worth the wait for their care & expertise. Nov. 2022..Attended A.E. after blacking out Sunday and falling over. There about 3 to 4 hours but i have nothing but praise for the wonderful, angelic, hardworking staff. Time passed so quickly and i was on my way, everything sorted. XXX April 2o23 Just spent a week in the New section of the hospital, currently tallest hospital in sydney, great views and 2 persons per room with ensuite! 5 stars all round. Staff fantastic angels, soo friendly and attentive, love them all, service great, food really tasty, results above board. We are so lucky to live in penrith.
I was in ED last night and everyone there was lovely until I finally got called in to get seen by the doctor and he was very unprofessional. First of all he wasn’t wearing appropriate clothing. He didn’t take anything I said into consideration what so ever. I have just read my discharge papers and half of it is the complete opposite of everything I said. He almost sent me home with the cannula still in my arm. He had absolutely 0 empathy or and bedside manners. He attempted to put a needle in my arms for blood tests 3 times and failed twice. I have been sick for 5 weeks and have visited Nepean hospital numerous times and still nothing has been done about it. It’s getting absolutely ridiculous. I highly do not recommend this hospital unless you absolutely have to go. If I was able to give 0.001 stars I would.
Staff were doing all they could but there are simply not enough nurses to accommodate for the emergency department. We arrived at 8:50pm and were lucky to even get a seat in the ED as every seat had been filled. It is now 2am and we have waited over 5 hours to see a doctor. There are people who came in after us who were seen to first after only waited 30 minutes - a hour at most. Update: my partner waited 9 hours just to see a doctor and get pain relief stronger than Panadol. It’s absolutely disgusting seeing him and so many others in pain and having to wait over 5 hours. They should’ve given him stronger pain relief when he asked for it. The care he received for the first 9 hours in the ED was no different to if he had stayed home and taken Panadol
changing my review only bc i had to go there yesterday to do a mental health assessment and i had the nicest nurse ever. i dont know what her name was but i waited like 7 hours and she kept on offering me food and tea and blankets and sat down next to me and talked to me. i told her she was nice and helpful and she said "am i???" and i felt so bad for her because she is so lovely and didnt realize it. i hope she gets promoted and i hope she has a lovely life because shes a gem. at the end of it i was in a mountain of blankets and ive never felt more safe at a hospital. i also met another person there who was about my age and we bonded over being mentally ill i hope shes okay too she deserves the world whatever shes been through
ER is an absolute joke. My partner came in at 7am with heart problems, she has a history of serious heart issues and is potentially really dangerous. She was treated like a child and was asked “why are you here? You came because you’re dizzy?”. She was talked down to and the staff were extremely rude to her. I got there around 10am and once the staff heard that i was fluent in English the way they talked to us changed a LOT. Mind you English is not her first language but that’s no excuse to be treated any differently. It is now almost 6pm, she’s waited almost 11 hours for a bed and we’re still in the waiting room with no sign of progress, no communication with us either. Will definitely not be coming back here again.
Even when you have an Antental appointment booking. They're always running behind. Staff are somewhat friendly, but it's horrible when you book an appointment , you're heavily pregnant & you still have to wait over an hour which not only cuts into your time, but also your PARKING bill costs more because you've had to wait. So inconvenient! 7 years since having my last child here and nothing improved, I don't know why they set appointments when they dont see you the time you book them for. Had a 10.45am appointment, arrived around 10.30am as per parking ticket. The other photo is me still waiting at reception to be called at 11.33am.. EDIT: had to remove the photos as they weren't showing my review. Go figure!
Terrible Emergency department. Absolutely clueless, undertrained nurses. No sense of urgency of care for patients. Been waiting for 5+ hours in emergency department waiting room with my 75 year old grandmother with serious heart problems. Poor man comes in visibly under distress with a head injury and bleeding on floor waits for 3+hours. Wife was so kind and patient, kindly asking for a bandage for her husband as he was visibly bleeding. They had absolutely no urgency to help this man! I’m seriously disappointed with the lack of care in this department. Actually disgusted. You come to a hospital to feel safe and to feel like you will get the help you need.. seriously don’t bother coming here, go elsewhere.
First born 5/6/2022 emergency c section and my recent second baby 2/11/2023 having a planned C section. Firstly i would like to thank all the Nepean public birth unit and mid wifes , nurses, doctors and epidural staff for both experiences both times you all were amazing at what you do Iv only just got out of hospital and my 2 day experience was so calm , professional and not once did i feel worried. The long hours you must all do and yet you all still did your job so well. I cannot thank you all for helping me bring my two beautiful girls into this world if only i could reward you all for the great experience i have had both times. Thank you from the bottom of my heart Kristie fabiano x
this is the worst run hospital I have ever known about. Took my friend in there with critical lung issues and waited 24 hours for a bed, meanwhile another patient died in the waiting area. my friend was in so much pain and discomfort in that waiting area she couldnt bear it any longer and begged to just go home untreated. She was in there using private health cover too so its not just because its a public hospital. EXpect the longest wait and the worst nightmare hospital experience possible. And its NOT the staff's problem , they are all doing their best, This problem is 100% due to total government and bureaucratic ignorance!!
I know people's mileage may vary, but I had a day surgery here (public) today and the whole experience from start to finish on the day was great. The nurses who looked after me before, during, and after surgery were very professional and kind. The surgery team were great at calming and reassuring me and gave me an easy post-op protocol to follow. I can't speak to the rest of the hospital but I can't say anything other than positive things about the day surgery team. I hope Neapean is able to fill out positions in the rest of the hospital so that all of it can have the same quality I had today.
amazing dental clinic. have been seen swiftly for my filling and wisdom teeth. the team at the dental clinic have amazing customer care and work to get problems resolved as quick as possible to ensure comfort. had an amazing dental assistant named shelly whilst i was getting a filling and made me feel incredibly cared for. my dentist has also worked through every trouble i've got with nothing but care and resolve, leaving no detail out to spare him time but rather making sure i understand every procedure and everything i need. thank you so much team!!!
0 care for elderly what’s so ever my grandmother has been here they haven’t checked on her regularly took them 24 hours to put her in a ward that is empty mind you little staff and staff have attitude drs have no experience can barely put cannula in and don’t do frequent check up’s on patients they don’t assist patients I’ve been doing everything to assist my grandmother although at other hospitals not in the west they really cater for the elderly esp when they see their loved ones worried about them at Nepean 0 cares given and I am quite disappointed
I am in the cardiac ward with 3 other patients. 2 women and 2 men. We are all senior citizens. We share the same toilet. This needs to change. There shld be seperate toilets for both genders. The toilets smell because these men either continuously miss the bowl or they not shaking off their last drop into the bowl. I hate to think what their toilet smells like in their own homes... We need MENS TIOLETS ONLY AND WOMENS TIOLETS ONLY in the wards.... So now I am the only female in this room with 2 males to put up with this disgusting issue....
It's amazing that in 2023 a father is sent away after the birth of there first child and not aloud to stay the night even though we can stay the days befor the birth. Way to make fathers feel less important and miss out on that first night to bond with mother and baby. Imagine if it was the mother told they could not spend the first night with there new born in 2023 would be all over the news but who cares about dad what a ridiculous policy. Why can we stay with the mother befor the birth but not after made to feel unimportant.
Excellent care. My husband was admitted in June with Covid at a time when all Sydney hospitals were totally under the pump. I cannot thank the staff enough for their care for my husband. I was called by his doctor every few days to advise of his condition and when I called the nurses between this advice, I was always treated with respect and given good advice of his condition. It's important to remember the strain our health professionals are working under currently and thank them for the care they give.
The hospital is is great and providing a great service to its community but the staff (especially those graduated from other overseas) are lowering the standards of Australian health services. I had a day surgery in April-2020 and the doctor was suppose to follow up in four weeks to let me know about the results and if I have any pain, but 7 months passed I didn't hear from anyone and I still have the pain. When I go to my GP she will referred me back to the hospital which I don't want to visit.
My sister had a c- section on Thursday.....her bp drops so she had to stay till Saturday but on Saturday, evening one staff was so rude ....she didn't even give us a notice of discharge and suddenly around 8 pm she told us we can go home ... we were happy to go home but my sister had still pain and couldn't stand and walk too .... they said they don't have wheelchair in their ward..... so rude....actually I want to give one star but I give two because some staffs were good
if i could give this place 0 stars…i would… my friends dear father is going through tough times and was transferred to this hospital….. room was empty….. a nurse didn’t even get him water when he asked for some!! “i don’t bring water”. so rude. not happy with the service. also, 20$ for a cup of water… so unnecessary!! too add on to this list of disgrace, a nurse didn’t even know who to perform a blood test!! my friends dear father had to help the nurse!! this is an abomination..
I’ve self-admitted myself to the emergency today with chest pain to check for possible heart attack. Everything went super fast, they immediately started consultation and an ECG. 2 minutes later they gave me the result that it’s (thankfully) not a heart attack and continued with blood tests, chest xray and another ECG. All staff have been wonderful, skilled, fast and friendly. I am so grateful to have this hospital so close to my home. Thank you to everyone who helped me today!
I just had a c section done here three days ago and I honestly have nothing bad to say. All nurses, surgical staff and midwives were so amazing. Taking me through it step by step and calming my nerves! (Was ment to have c section the following week but baby had other plans lol) after surgery baby and I were sooo looked after. Midwives/ nurses were so attentive and made sure we were taken care of. My husband and I were very happy with everyone. Really appreciate everyone there.
The Security Guard were the worst and the hospital should give some basic training…. I had an appointment in the birthing unit 6:30pm and after hours the south block doors do not open and when I asked the security he told me he can’t help me and I need to find my own way in, when I was told to go to security to be let in for my appointment… I was running around the hospital trying to find a way in when I finally got in by someone leaving… he would refuse to help me in any way
The service and treatment I received from Dr Marie Caroline George and the staff, from the admission to the blood test and Ex ray was top notch , she has great bed side manner and spoke to me in a way that I understood what was going and the treatment I will receive. She came back several time to see how the treatment was going. I don't know how she does it day in and day out, I am just glad that we have such decanted people in our health system. thankyou again for my stay.
Being here since 10am yesterday morning now it's almost 1 o'clock afternoon next day we are still waiting for a room for my husband to be admitted. Being given with no medication, no food and no care at all, the daytime emergency nurses are so racist and rude they don't even asked or come to check on him until I asked for some pain relief for my husband as he is in so much pain and nothing have being done to help him. It is such a let down and disappointment for us.
I rang to check on my wife who had been admitted last night and the receptionist was extremely helpful and the nurse at the Nursing Station went out of her way to help me get in contact with my wife whose mobile phone battery had died. I couldn't be more appreciative of the service. My wife's experience on entry (via ambulance from Katoomba Hospita) was very good and so was the attention she received. Given the current situation with COVID, I give them 5 stars.
The staff are so lovely and helpful however a very slow hospital. It's also no very clean, a lot of rubbish left in the room you're put in while you wait for the Doctor. Every doctor and nurse I've encountered are always very lovely however after 7hrs of waiting it does get to you. I just also spent and hour and half on hold (before I gave up) to get my results to my doctor as he has tried but no success. GPs don't have the capicity to wait on hold that long.
This place is a joke. Post natal and emergency being the worst. I’ve had so many issues post birth because this hospital I could write a book about it. Never being seen or give pain medications when waiting for hours on end. I’ve probably spent several days here just waiting if it was all added together. I’d honestly be better off being driven to the Northern Beaches hospital or Royal North Shore I’d be seen quicker even with the 2 hour drive
One of the most disgusting hospitals to get a call answered through. Receptions ok but once they transfer you good luck!!! Especially in A building. Took 17 calls to finally get through to someone and they then hung up on me. Happens every single time we’ve called over the last 12mths. Always the same. Stay on hold for up to an hour with no answer. You’re paying all this money for upgrades but can’t get your wards to answer their phones!!!!
While the triage nurses are sitting in the back chatting and laughing, the waiting room is practically empty. There's a pregnant women in the waiting room with pain in her stomach, worried for her baby. What kind of hospital doesn't put a pregnant women with stomach pain as a priority. Do your jobs or go home. This is absolutely appalling that I am writing this on behalf of the patient. You should be ashamed of the "service" you provide.
These 5 stars are directly for our caseload midwife KT & the rest of the staff working in 8C maternity ward 5th-7th July 2023. Nursing staff were great & all interactions were helpful & positive. Doctor Gabi was also informative & helpful during our experience so thank you. It’s not an easy environment to work in, so thank you to all staff who go above & beyond to serve your community. It is very much appreciated & doesn’t go unnoticed.
My daughter was transported to Nepean from Bathurst last week as her water broke at 33 weeks and was taken to birth unit. The loveliest midwife Lorraine (an old school nurse) looked after her and she couldn’t have been more respectful and caring if she tried to my daughter and to her partner and myself. It was so good to have such a wonderful caring professional being so far from home as well. Bless her for doing a great job. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Surgeons were great. But 99% of the staff were non English speakers and incomprehensible behind their masks and had no interest in being understood. Worst hospital experience I’ve ever had. Cancer outpatient clinic okay but you “take a number and wait your turn”. Billions spent on facilities and beds but too few competent staff to run them. For profit medicine corporate parasites have stolen public infrastructure.
All the staff were amazing & helpful. As for the hospital itself... completely confusing, shockingly non-existent signage as to how to find anything, coffee shop across the road (Cafe Upstairs?) Signage saying it was open and was a long walk to get there only to find it was closed. Terrible experience especially if you have someone elderly with you. A horrible place to manoeuvre around!!!
Considering how busy Nepean hospital is with COVID on top of normal business I received the best care firstly in Emergency and then in AC. I was seen, treated and transferred out of Emergency quickly and professionally. Every staff member I met was friendly and helpful. To be honest I was quite happily surprised at the degree of care given during these difficult times. Well done Nepean.
Was in Nepean Hospital about 7 weeks ago with pneumonia. Though they are under-resourced in emergency (politicians love to put shiny stuff where it gets them good press!), they did a great job with what they had. I was so impressed with their care. Had a few days in the respiratory ward and couldn't fault them. Wonderful doctors, and competent, patient and kind nurses. Big thumbs up!
I was admitted to the short stay mental health unit, PECC, at Nepean public hospital. The Psychiatrists there and the staff are respectful and provide a high quality of care. I have been refused admission to St John of God Burwood hospital where my psychiatrist of 24 years is a VMO. Once again the public system has picked me up where a private mental health clinic has dropped me.
wife left waiting in emergency for more than 8hours without even seeing a doctor after suffering a seizure , i was told she was next on the doctors list multiple times after 7hours the doctor sent a nurse to check blood pressure and ask questions, how hard is it to come and talk to someone. ended up giving up leaving after removing own canular. Absolute joke of a place.
Absolutely wonderful care, yes, the waits are long but priority cases need attending to first I guess. Been going there for years, no complaints! Just wanted to add my son was in there recently for surgery, the care far exceeded our expectations, he loved the food choices as well and ate every meal. WELL DONE NEPEAN HOSPITAL STAFF, WE APPRECIATED YOUR CONCERN AND CARE!!
Went there around 8:30pm with my 4yrs old child and they asked us to wait. We waited until 4:15am and left the premise as no one cared to get us to a doctor even after 7 - 8hrs of waiting. He was vomiting while waiting, and the only service we got is a new bag in case more comes. That’s the service we received from this new billion dollar nepean hospital
The layout of the new a building leaves a lot to be desired. I've had to walk all the way to the e block entrance in order to reach a patient staying on the 7th floor of A block. No ability to be let through nor a entrance at the back of the building for guests visiting patients. let us hope this BLATANT flaw is rectified in the future renovations.
Disgusting care, sent a person home that has facial droop, eye droop, with no medications who lives on their own. Very unsafe and irresponsible. I am not happy and no availability to contact a number. As a health professional myself I am appalled, and I know how poor the system is but leaving someone to defend for themselves is not good care.
HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE. Ambulance from Nepean Hospital came to see my grandpa that was in pain in stomach and back and heavily breathing on Sunday 3/9/23 20:22 PM, stayed to check how his feeling for half hour roughly and then walked off and left in the same pain (getting worse) and said no need for a hospital. HORRIBLE! HORRIBLE! HORRIBLE!
Thank you Nepean Hospital for Amazing service. Shout out to Midwife Sarah, who was just amazing. She helped us through the entire process just like she was one of our own family. It’s a difficult and stressful time during birth labour, and support from the staff and nurses means a lot. Over all I would have given 10 stars if I could.
I had my radiation treatment transferred to Nepean for convenience, I could not have been happier with my treatment from the radiation specialists to the wonderful radiation therapists & the nurses, all have been very professional, extremely empathetic & friendly, highly recommend this team. …
1 particular women at reception at day surgery was very rude & arragant, none of them tell you anything ,, apparently you are suppose to know the process. They wonder why people waiting for hours get frustrated & cranky. Dont bother walking miles to validate parking for a dissability concession, they make it so hard its not worth it.
For my experience with my 3 kids plus my own health visits i have had nothing but helpful respect the only thing i will say is for the midwifery staff is to never tell a labouring woman how she feels or disagree with what she is explaining both times i came in already 10cm for my 1st and 3rd child my second was introduced.
Day staff great. But no doctors on a sunday in a and e. At night go by ambulance. Endless loop back to waiting room beds frozen so you cant get to a bed as no discharges. Before covid great post covid like an apolocolyptic nightmare. Go by ambulance or youll never get a bed. Never agree to a chair only a bed
Rang twice today to get post-op info on an elderly relative (on behalf of the family). First time I gave up after being 'transferred' at around 40 minutes. Now, it's currently 1 hour 23 minutes and counting on hold! If I hear once again how my call is important and they'll be with me shortly...
I would like to say Thank you to Drs, all midwives and other stuffs on my delivery date 17th October 2023, they are very hand on to their duties. As a first time mum, I was very nervous and full of unknown process of delivery but everyone are very helpful and caring. They deserve 10 stars.
Ease of access, clear directions, friendly staffs, plenty of parking. Have visited their emergency department few times, and it was managed well. Though the hospital is not that crowded compared to other hospitals, there is plenty of opportunity to streamlining the admission process.
Have just done an overnighter at Nepean Hospital ED. Having lots of hesitation initially, I was pleasantly surprised and impressed. I couldn’t fault the care, the professionalism of the nurses and doctors, the cleanliness and the positive atmosphere overall. I am very grateful.
I understand that we need more nurses, but my goddaughter just gave birth at this hospital, she was there for 3 days and no one showed her how to bath her baby. They were not even that busy, I saw the staff (3 or 4 of them at a time) standing behind the desk and talking.
Amazing staff. The nurses and doctors were all very attentive, caring and responsive. Everyone was really friendly and made the hospital the best place it could be with the care they provided. Special thank you to Dr. Spencer Wan and the nurses on Sunday Short Stay.
Please be aware of the lady in maternity ward C building A name Trudy old lady she is very rude to patients. We wanted to leave hospital without discharging the way she addressed us. Management should get rid of her she doesn't know how to talk to people.
I've just had a total hip replacement at NEPEAN Hospital I had the best experience starting from the day I went to admissions right up to when I was released The nurses and doctors were absolutely amazing thankyou to the team that looked after me
I entered Nepean Hospital's Emergency room with severe food poisoning symptoms and over the course of around two hours I requested medication from four different nurses/doctors, all said they'd get me some meds, none gave it. Complete negligence.
This hospital is amazing ! Recently my teenage daughter had surgery and then stayed a week in E3B ward , from the beginning to the end the staff were amazing and I couldn’t thank them enough ! Even the student nurses were amazing ! Thank you
I dont have an issue with the doctors and nurses that were on duty but I brought my son in at 11.15pm and was taken into the rooms pretty quick but then it took till around 6am for the only doctor on duty on a Friday night to say that they
Surgeons were pretty good, but 1of the nursing staff had no professionalism at all. My mom got a surgery done and just before that she had to go through this very rude and unprofessional nurse of Indian descent. And upon discharge she was
Emergency department is overworked. Have been here for about 4 hours and counting and haven't moved. (This is still probably one of my quickest visits.) I think I'd have more luck leaving now and going to another hospital. Couldn't really
Worst experience in hospital, old and foreign nurses and midwives are rude unlike the young ones are polite but unexperienced. Had a caesarean, first night could not move baby was crying, i buzz i need help i was in pain, and old midwife
In this facility you shall find the most unsympathetic and abhorrent nurses that will make any attempt to ridicule you and your reason for entering the ED. Never mind the partiality in their practice which is clear as day. Unless you’re
Very good and new hospital with a LOT of inhouse state of the art facilities. Currently the tallest hospital building in Australia. Has very dedicated and helpful staff especially the nurses. Very well designed and maintained hospital.
I am beyond disgusted rhat the hospital has been "upgraded", yet there has been been no increase in the number of beds and a decrease, it seems, in their emergency services. Entering ER via an ambulance was like entering an alternate
Great hospital seeing I was born there and also my life was saved 16 yrs later after a fatal incident where my juggler vein was completely severed, Since it’s ongoing upgrades it’s becoming vastly one of Sydney’s better hospitals
Great place if you've made all the necessary appointments and need surgery. Lots of doctors, nurses and ancillary staff, helpful and friendly. Been there a couple of times, came out alive and feeling better than when I entered.
Big thanks to the Nurse that sowed up my stab wound that Nathan Izzard from Torton place did to me. She made me feel safe and like i wasnt going to die and yes torton place is named because its where the tortfeasors live. hahah
The Ed was helpful and catered for our concerns. I assisted family in 2 different EDs . Concord and Nepean. Nepean is by far a superior ED.very lucky to have such a facility in the west. Medical staff are very knowledgeable
I have a 3 week old son up intensive care my wife can not look after him over night so I have been I cannot get any food or vouchers because I'm not a girl this is how they treat the Aboriginal people fantastic job Hospital
Good hospital with extremely friendly staff. The only down side was their staff shortage which made their wait times very long and exasperating after having a surgery and being in pain. But overall it is a good hospital.
Always friendly staff. Nurses in clinic are really wonderful making you feel very comfortable. Parking is an absolute nightmare. Even parking station full all the time and forget about street parking. Take a book.
The midwife’s and doctors in the birthing unit and maternity ward 8C are the best , thank you for delivering our son on the 14122023 and taking such good care of my partner and son throughout. We appreciate you.
Had such a wonderful time there, I came to get my kidneys replaced and instead of having two I got three kidneys. I was treated with so much care. Now I have an extra organ to sell on the black market! …
Emergency room nurses and doctors thank you for helping me relief from my screaming pain. Was hard to tame my self but I actually feel 90 percent now. Thank you you guys deserve more credit for your work
This place needs a urgent review and more staff, instead of building more on to this place, bring in more staff and bedding. I'm pretty sure you have to be half dead to get anywhere in this facility...
The Nurses, Doctors and staff in the emergency department were fantastic. They took amazing care of my Dad even though they were extremely busy. We cannot commend them enough, absolutely amazing.
Fixed me good nurses and doctors were first class in struggling circumstances due to the fact there's not enough beds. Get them more staff and beds they're stretched and trying hard
We have nothing but praise for the ER team. Doctors, nurses, administration etc Even the fellow who directed me to the ER My husband couldn’t be in better hands. God bless them x
Went today for an appointment Was impressed how smoothly it all went. The volunteers at the P2 entrance were extremely helpful, even to getting my parking validated for disabled.
The care that I received at Nepean Hospital was excellent.I immediately felt at ease by the Doctors and Nurses that looked after me while i was in emergency & in Short stay.
I attended day surgery. From arrival through to departure was a great experience. The whole team were professional and caring. Best experience I’ve ever had. Thank you!
From before surgery until discharge I cannot fault the staff during my operation and stay . Very caring and polite doctors and nurses making sure i was comfortable the
Came in with dangerously high blood pressure, headaches, neck and chest pain. Was told I would have to wait for 11 hours before being moved from the waiting room.
Front desk needs to be more friendly and supportive. Parking always full. Long waiting hours. But once you get your turn, the doctors and nurses are very nice.
Visited the community dentist here didn't have to wait long so that was good but as everyone knows dentist visits are no fun …
Poorly managed. Very slow to be seen and treated. Released after 10 hours with nothing more than go see your GP for follow up.
That skinny white nurse that wears the puffer jacket and ties her black hair in a bun committed identity fraud on me.
Daughter gave birth to my granddaughter, very well laid out, staff were great, the birthing rooms were amazing
Telstra is the best carrier if you are here at the Nepean Hospital all other carriers have weak reception.
In regards to my recent admission to APC ward, Nepean Hospital on 10.2.21 to 12.2.21.
Always excellent service & staff when I visit or have medical procedures done. …
They provide a great humanitarian service. Thank you for your efforts.
