NO STAR if I could to this hospital A&E from reception to triage room in abusing patient for extremely long hours in waiting area…What happened to the medical ethics principles??? I was at the A&E 15 March 2023 with a secondary inflammation throat, 8/10 pain and fever. I registered at the reception was told to understand on their charges and payment on Overseas Consultation. Asked to wait at the brown chair was seen by a male nurse in triage room 1- took the RAT Test and he did all the checking. I informed him that I am in great pain 8/10, had not been able to swallow my saliva, could barely speak and difficulty in breathing that’s why I’m here. Also I informed the male nurse I’m an asthma sufferer. Told me to take a seat at the blue chair and waited to be called to see the doctor. Soon the blue area was full of patients (till at some point realised mostly overseas) in waiting. I waited from 7:30pm till 1am and was progressively getting worse, feeling chilly, shivering and aching that triggered to my asthma attack. My daughter went to triage room 1 to ask an Asian nurse for help and was told ok will come to you but nothing happened. We waited for a while again until my daughter had to approach the nurse again to get help that I had difficulty breathing properly. She came and got me into triage room again and try to communicate with me. At this stage I was in great pain and cramped and difficulty breathing. I asked for an inhaler after much struggles. She went to ask, I was handed a inhaler and was given a numbing gel to swallow for my inflammatory throat. Sent out to sit in the waiting area again to continue to wait to see the doctor. GOD knows I WAS TOTALLY EXHAUSTED MENTALLY AND PHYSICALLY !!! I left the hospital thinking if I ever get to see the doctor!!! I received an email from the hospital, invoice no. 4228265 $162 dated 23 March 2023 treating doctor-St Vincent’s Hospital Sydney Ltd NO DOCTOR’s name of course as I did not even get to consult one after the abusing experience!!! WHAT HAPPENED TO THE MEDICAL ETHICS PRINCIPLES!

I appreciated the care from the staff member. However, not impressed at all by the system & process. I arrived at almost midnight after hours of vomitting and massive migraine, and told to take a seat. After the vital data was checked, the staff told me "It's probably just a bug", then I was asked so many administration data by the staff at reception, then brought to a seat and waited there for 8 hours. Got my blood taken, then nothing except blood presure tests every now and then. Everytime I asked when GP will come and see me, the answer was always the same: "sorry to make you wait this long, but we are not sure, hopefully soon." Seat was not reclined until I showed sign of huge discomfort by seating for HOURS. Anti sickness was only and FINALLY given when I keep telling them I felt nauseous. No water, not even any info about where the toilet is, nothing. My friends who waited for me were finally given blanket after waited for hours. After 8 hours of waiting, all my symptoms were mostly reduced on its own, and by morning when I finally met by the practicioner, I was asked the same questions all over again, only to got discharged without any treatment/medicine because I was already "better". Then charged for almost $490. When it is emergency, I (and I think all othet patients too) need to get treated immediately. Having this experience, I would never ever again visit ER if the process is even slower than my natural healing process. Unacceptable.

My mother and I went in for her first dose of AZ today and I left the hospital not thanking the staff enough for their help. My mother needed an interpreter to fill out the forms and answer the medical questions as family members are no longer allowed to do this and from the get go, we were met with friendly staff who went out of their way to assist us with this process. Ms S White in particular was so helpful, thoughtful and so friendly during this process - thank you so much. We were also lucky to have had such a friendly nurse who patiently took the interpreter and my mother through the whole list of medical questions with calm and care. She jabbed my mother in the blink of an eye and I hope we can return to her in three weeks for the second jab :) The gentleman in the waiting room who helped confirm our second dose after a technical issue was also so patient and friendly as well. We left the hospital not thanking the staff enough for their help today. My mother, who is definitely not fond of needles or anything to do with hospitals/health in general, found some calm in the process because of the friendly assistance and procedure established at the vaccination hub in St Vincent Hospital. Thank you very much :)

When I was consulting with my doctor at Dermatology Clinic, Dr Bryan Pang walked in with another staff without permission and forced my doctor to leave with them, until it reached my boundary for over 20 mins waiting for nothing, I walked out of the room I saw 10 staffs in the common area and listening to his presentation. He stopped my way and explained that they were discussing my skin issue and seeking a solution. I laughed and said to them: "But I haven't finished my explanation of my symptoms to the doctor yet, don't lie, you have no idea what problem I have yet."... I mean, I don't care how doctors welcome me, and how extraordinary his qualifications and position are, I just expected I could be respected as a normal human being, but his lies and disregard for personal privacy, to be honest it’s far beyond my knowledge. After he pushed me back into the room, he tried to give me an offer by rescheduling my appointment, I’m just wondering: was this really a sincere offer or was it just a necessary resolution to avoid my complaints? I just hope: leave me alone Dr. Bryan Pang.

Bad experience. It felt like the left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing. My dad was a patient here and every time I tried to contact the nurses to ask how he's going, either the phone kept ringing out without anyone picking or they just picked up and immediately hang up the phone. I had to get the front desk to call several different places around the ward to finally get someone on there and then the nurses basically didn't know what was happening and told me to call back later. Nothing changes here, a month later he went back and the same thing. Before subsequent surgeries they also don't properly explain to the patient what they are getting and how that will affect them, they need to acknowledge understanding. In my dads case they simply made him sign a document to proceed directly with the operation. This is a problem if the patient speaks another language and has no idea what they've just signed - Under heavy medication and distress this is a huge problem. The staff will make very little attempt to contact the next of kin. Not good if you ask me.

Been in the night, I been sick after I got a medicine under my doctor prescription. I been there after many hours, was scared that I had damaged organs, they based diagnosis only about my past medical history... They said gastric, I had in the past it wasn't at all, but I was tired and wanted to go home. I think I had pancreatitis, they could just do bloody test to verify. The nurse who tried to get blood, just ruined my left arm (even I say few times he won't get any blood from arms, to do in my hand). In the end no blood was taken, I was fine because my bloody pressure was good, and because probably my body does not like medication. The think that with no gallbladder I should not have taken the medication was not considered, even I said few times, the accident occurred 10 hours before, is normal my Bloody pressure was normalised ‍♀️ so I ended with no bloody test done, because in the end no one took it ‍♀️ probably wrong diagnosis, still sick with pain my abdomen... thanks

I was admitted to hospital due to mental health and suicide attempts was made to wait eight hours although I asked to leave several times and just wanted to go home and go to sleep refused treatment several times then when I’m allowed to go to bed, they wake me up during my sleep at 3 am and kick me out of the hospital. I remain sitting out the front of the hospital until 8 am the next day nurses kept coming out and offering the taxi vouchers trying to get me out of their way because there were no beds. I then was left on the side of the road in a horrible state, which led me to end up, hurting myself anyway, and they would not admit me or accept any treatment. The police who attended did not even fill out the report so the next day when I had walked home, I had another three police officers rock up within five minutes of me getting home and having to re-tell the whole story go through my apartment and trying to admit me again. I will never ever reach out for help again..

The worst place to go for emergency. They made me wait 10 hours and all they did was give me a script for a medication and put me on a drip and made me wait half an hour for that too. I had to sit in the same uncomfortable chair for this whole time, I asked nursing staff questions like, when will I get my prescribed mediations I was promised, when will the doctor be here, etc.. They would always answer with soon, just take a seat and we will be with you next or as soon as possible. Each time I asked there was another 1 hour + wait. Meanwhile I also had a bad UTI infection which was making me extremely sick and was progressively getting worse. I would highly recommend not going here for emergency unless you have been shot in the head or something because they will not attend to you. This has happened every time I have had to wait in emergency at this hospital. I think they need to do some more research into the word EMERGENCY before they call themselves an emergency ward.

The Emergency Department in this hospital is as bad as it gets. Vanessa, the nurse in this department, is just plain rude and unprofessional. After coughing for over a month and having chest pain, my insurance told me to go to this hospital. Under Vanessa’s point of view, I should have stayed home because coughing for over 35 days and having pain in your chest are not a reason to visit the hospital. I would like to know when is it a reason to visit a hospital then? She added that for sure I had covid and that was another reason not to go to the hospital. Hopefully no one close enough to Vanessa passes away during or after having suffered covid. I will definitely avoid this unprofessional hospital in the future, and hopefully if you get the chance to read this, you will too. Less Vanessas and more friendly and professional people would make the world a better place for everyone.

  • Karan J

The nurses are lovely and treated me well but the doctor was rude and lied on my discharge paperwork. He did not detail properly why I was brought in by ambulance, he lied about the treatment I received, he lied about my health issue being resolved then he threw me out without asking if I have anywhere to go and how I am going to get there. I overheard a male say "She was brought in by ambulance from The Wayside Chapel" The woman replied "That explains it then" and the man replied "No, her bloods are free of narcotics" This hospital seems to think that everyone at Wayside Chapel are addicts. I was actually in church when I collapsed and an ambulance was called. On speaking with others from Wayside Chapel who have been taken to St Vinnies for treatment, many of them have experienced the same discrimination. I wouldn't go to this hospital again if I had a choice.

This review is in relation to Level 9 in the Public Hospital. On two consecutive days of visiting, I suffered the brunt of abrupt, rude behaviour from the ward staff. In the first instance, I waited for quite a while to be let through the doors and after that I approached the woman who let me in and asked if I could leave my contact details. She snapped back to see one of the nurses, NOT HER. The second instance on the next day was when I was waiting to be let out. A woman patient was standing near the door and as the ward staff opened the door she screamed in my face "GO! GO! JUST GO!! The patient attempted to leave. I am only a visitor and not fully aware of problems occurring and DO NOT WISH to be addressed in that way. If these ward staff can't professsionally deal with stress, they should find another job!

Arrived to casualty early Saturday afternoon. It took 8 1/2 hours to get a CT scan & Xray... Constantly seeing junior nurses and Junior doctors who were all very inexperienced. Who is in charge of hiring all the male Doctors??? There's a common theme. Once you see it you can't unsee it. A young female Dr then told me an appt had been made for me at their outpatients clicnic during week. I arrive to the outpatients clinic at the said time to find out that no appt had been made for me. Not to mention the homeless people sleeping in the casualty waiting area, homeless people coming in with fake injuries and constantly interupting staff for water and sandwiches. And the dirty floor wasn't cleaned at all. What once was a great service is now floundering. The Management of this Dept is appalling and atrocious.

  • Alp Ergüney

Lovely, friendly, and compassionate staff, clean hospital. However, their end-to-end processes need professional audit and improvement as it's shocking. Admission, triage and even diagnosis are fast but then you wait for an absolute unknown amount of time for a theatre. So you are in that gloomy hospital mood for an inestimable amount of time (I was kept here for 3 days once) with an IV in your vein (no food, no drinks) for a minor surgery that takes less than 10 minutes. What a waste to keep and feed (food, drinks, pharmaceuticals) someone here for days when all you need is a fraction of a doctor's time to get things done and discharge the patient. So it doesn't matter how fast you get people in if you can't get them out (discharge) efficiently.

  • Mariana Morales Rueda

Went here early February to the emergency room after a bad fall 5 days prior which ended up with a numb foot that I could not feel at all whatsoever. Waited in the emergency room from 8pm until 9am just to be told that it will go back to normal eventually with no timeframe or medication. Needless to say, my foot is still numb and I think I have nerve damage ........... Also, someone fainted in the emergency room waiting and they just gave her a blanket. Great service if you are thinking of a place to hang out... all night... in the cold with no help or care in the world. My partner had to stay outside in the cold for the 13 hours I was there as he apparently could not come in. Do not recommend.

  • Daniela Rosa

Can you give negative stars to a place? I am abhorred by the lack of service in the emergency ward. I have been here for 4 hours to get seen, there's no information and certainly nobody cares enough to Inform you of what's going on, where you are in the queue or acknowledge that you've been here.... for 4 HOURS!!! 2 other people in the same situation as me have now given up. I am aware that emergencies happen in the emergency room, but I was treated lower than dirt and of course told to sit and wait...in excruciating pain. I have never seen such bad bad bad lack of service in a place. Thanks @stvincentshospitalsydney I will not use your services unless I want to DIE...waiting.

  • You and Me #AA

I would like to say thanks to everyone who cared for me from Seeing me in emergency to the operation theatre and then in recovery. It was my first time ever being in hospital but I was just amazed how professional all of they were from the very first interaction with the lovely lady at reception then nurse who examined me initially, all the other nurses in Emergency department and Surgeons who performed surgery on me and their anaesthesia staff. You guys were just amazing, last night I had a glimpse what you guys goes through all the time. All of respect and prayers for you and good luck for future. Thanks alot everyone.

  • Gaurav Singh

Was in the emergency department waiting area for almost 3 hours there was no Doctor or Nurses to attend when asked the receptionist told there are ambulances which are more priority then you so can’t say when the doctors will attend you. Had the worst experience in the emergency department. I had constant pain and agony but the receptionist choose not to give me priority as I wasn’t dying (maybe?). Really disappointed in the ED. I went to another hospital and was treated as per triage and not the mood/choice of the team.

  • Lisa Giuliano

A extremely busy hub of different health services including emergency ward. The parking is ridiculously expensive and usually full first thing in the morning. On occasion, I have been lucky enough to get a disability parking spot, however, the cost is astronomical, especially for those on pensions or travelling long distance and carers or family who have to be there for weeks or months at a time, there is absolutely no reimbursement or discount. This is the hardest thing when coming to the hospital.

  • Jenni Gilbert

Exceptional care and compassion, no judgement. Also from the paramedical team who transported me to Emergency twice this year. We are the luckiest people in the world to have a health service such as this. I was always treated - by every doctor, nurse and associated worker, both while in hospital and as an outpatient - with the utmost respect and consideration. Not to mention received outstanding medical care! Thank you.

  • Jan Mitchell (Pinke Faerie)

I was very I'll. I suffer from Buhlemia and cannot stop the vomiting. The staff were fantastic, as I feel as though I'm a burden. I've been treated by the kindest people from all the staff from cleaners all the way to the Doctors. I was in for roughly 27 hrs. They have a really great new section, the beds the privacy and the Safety of all patients and Staff. Thank you all so much for all your help and kindness.

  • Chris Murphy

Got Covid came on quite suddenly yesterday I was stumbling and disoriented .The hospital admitted me through emergency. I was going to ignore my symptoms, but there were complications. I was unaware of. All the staff were efficient caring. Dr Fei Lin , senior resident medical officer thorough careful of my pre-existing health issues and prescribed drugs to ward off deterioration. Great hospital.

  • Peter Speight

It’s a shame I can’t give 0 stars instead of 1. From the outpatients reception to the the Rhumatology department every point of contact of my 3 years of appointments at this hospital has been a shambles. I’ve been without my medication twice due to their incompetencies. The most recent was because they simply lost my notes after an appointment and never sent off my application to Medicare.

  • dario tesio

Went to the hospital in a really bad pain all over one side of my face. They make me wait over 4 hours, when i asked to get seen by the doctor because i can't stand the pain anymore they offer me tea or coffee. Are you serious??? I had to go to another hospital in camperdown to get help. Priority to Aussie and junkies immigrant like me left in pain for hours. Congratulation

  • Jazzz Martinz

No judgement, just exceptional care and compassion. Also from the ambulance service team that took me to the emergency room numerous times this year. We are the luckiest people on earth to have such a health-care system. I was always treated with the utmost respect and compassion by every doctor and nurse. Amazing medical care! Thank you very much.

From my uncle Dr Adel Shalaby, I am fine and progressing day after day and please write good complement in St Vincent’s hospital Sydney Australia about the care after their patients and I am one of them who is recovering from cerebral Strock with disctions of coronary artery in 3 locations and special thanks to nursing staffs especially lay cheing.

  • Glen Manning

My stay at the hospital was awesome, was cared for n looked after by the nurses very well. For a public hospital I'll say great job. My nurse Hannah was soovely I wish I could take her home, always giving the thumbs up n making sure I was ok after surgery, great team of nurses n surgeons. Hat tipped to all the nurses of level 8 South wing.

  • Thi Tran

the worst hospital i have been in my life.they keep patient wait for hours, all days without food or drink untill you can see a doctor but If you ask, they will say doctors are busy and cant see you now, the “ soon” will be for days. my husband was in pain all day, no food or even ưater allowed and we dont even know what they doing next

  • Haydn T

The worst experience ever at an emergency department anywhere in the country. Slow, rude staff that refused to allow me to even wait inside with a sibling who has an intellectual disability as well as mental health issues. One staff member was so obnoxious in fact that I can't believe a health service could actually keep him employed.

  • Taranga Anurag

I went into St Vincents Hospital and as usual got seen to with the respect and care one deserves. I have nothing but the highest praise to the staff, and I got treated quickly and thoroughly with my situation being sorted out. To the staff at St Vincents, thank you, thank you, thank you. You are the best hospital.

  • Suzannah McClure

St Vincent's public saved my daughter's life. They have the most amazing team in ICU. We are so lucky here in Australia to have such an amazing place. All the staff from every corner of the hospital help you how ever they can .I can not thsnk them enough for what they have done for my family. They are the best!!!

  • A Church

Waited all night, didnt get seen to. Was faint, vomiting, dehydrated and on the verge of passing out however someone with an eye infection who arrived after me seemed to be more important. They didnt even offer pain killers to help ease the pain whilst I was waiting. Had to go to another hospital for treatment.

  • Suzanne Barnessmbpersonal

Pathetic. Sat for 9 hours with a very sick 86 year old woman. When I left, nonone in emergency picked up the phone. And once dhe was transferred to the ward no one picked up the phone..would give no stars if I could. Experts at making a really stressful situation even more stressful.

  • O U

In one word great, excellent. I had two procedures in the public hospital at Day procedure centre at Level 5 Xavier building.. Can't say enough how nicely I was treated; all the nurses, doctors, and support crew cared for me. Appreciate Dr Ian Lockart for his great advice and care.

  • δϮυ ,'J

Busybusybusy but good ol' Ozzy hospitality @ it's finest. Great historic building seamlessly connected to a modern state of the art facility. Treating everyone with respect & dignity. From the cleaner's all the way to the world class surgeon's this is an A1 hospital …

  • Teresa Wilkinson

conscientious staff, calm waiting area, triage was excellent & nurses & doctors kind, helpful, & very thorough, as long as you remember 'respect' is mutual & having to wait is not 'optional' but necessary, bring your patience along with Medicare card, & any other necessary ID

  • Antonio Borsellino

Best staff and doctors. I will forever be grateful and appreciative of this hospital. Please if you come here be respectful to every staff member. They are already doing so much with the little staff at times. They are amazing and helped me get a double lung transplant.

  • Jeannette Thuler

I was taken by ambulance to St . Vincents public hospital last Sept 2020..and what i thought was going to be a quick trip there and back home. .turned into 3 long long weeks. I was found to have Pneumonia and a lung infection which required draining and antibiotics..

  • Yasmin Keers

The team at St Vincent’s really helped me after a visit to the emergency. The team really cared and were genuinely invested in trying their best for me despite being overworked and understaffed. Thank you to the nurses and doctors for everything they do!

  • Melissa Prop

I had an encounter with the rudest and most aggressive person on the 389 bus today. Unfortunately, she was wearing the blue St Vincent's uniform as she boarded the bus outside the hospital at around 4.30pm. What a terrible way to represent the hospital.

  • Ratna Dewi Pratiwi

the emergency service was very bad, I was in pain and had to spend 9 hours but there was no treatment whatsoever and they were not given any treatment when I was in pain and could not give certainty about when I would get treatment, it was very bad

5-star rating for doctors and nurses working in the Day procedure Centre. They are super friendly, professional and very caring. I am very grateful for the doctors and nurses performed colonoscopy procedure for mum. Thank you very much.

Easily the worst hospital on the planet. Left waiting in a freezing cold tent for 6hrs with no food, water or treatment. I have witnessed better care in the middle of combat zones such as Afghanistan. What has happened to this country?

Never come to this hospital as u should wait even in emergency for 9 hours to get a bed. I know all nurses are working hard but the care system is awful. The waiting time can make u creazy I will never back to this hostpital again.

I really couldn't ask for more. As a foreigner they gave me a proper service compared to another hospital I've visited. At least they can be nice when communicate with the patient. Cheers for all of you guys in emergency room.
