The experience at the emergency was absolutely shocking and terrifying! I was brought by a paramedic team with a bp of 195/96, severe, migraine like, headache, dizziness & nausea. For three hours I was on a stretcher near the nurses station under the bright light in a very noisy & busy environment and visitors phones endless and loud ringing. I asked for at least a Tylenol and a bit of water, but was simply ignored w/o any reply at all. The headache became even more unbearable, when I asked a nurse if the visitors could refrain from loud phone calls in that area. She answered in a very surprised, upset & blaming tone of voice as if I asked for something insane and barked at me saying “we can’t forbid people to use phones.” This showed her absolute ABSENCE of compassion , empathy and human sympathy and understanding of sick people condition. I said that in that case I wish to leave the hospital, as with such headache it was totally impossible to remain under that level of noice! Then I’ve heard her calling security. I said that there was no need for it and went to a washroom when I got up. Before even I was ready to go, the security guards were persistently knocking on the washroom door & disturbing me. At one time they pushed the door that there was about 4 inch gap. I asked them to leave me alone & not to disturb me. Instead, four security guards broke into the washroom while I still had my pants down & pulled me out. They pined me against the wall, heating my face on the wall too. Next day I found out that they cracked the crown on my front tooth, which completely broke down the next day. Three weeks later I still can’t recover from the received shock, embarrassment, humiliation & extreme rudeness from security bouncers. They pulled my mobile phone from my hands as I tried to call the police. I refused to leave until the police arrived and saw me with my pants down at my knees! All this time the nurses complained to be quite as they had “sick people here”! Who was I?? I had a suspicion of a mini stroke or a heart attack, but I was a bother and nuisance to them!! This is not a healing and caring hospital. This is worst than a jail, not that I’ve ever been there. I am a retired person, said or did nothing, except that I couldn’t handle the terrible noice around and wanted simply to leave altogether! The medical care in Ontario is not only in crisis, it is NONEXISTENT. This is not the first time I witness this kind of conduct of their security muscles! During COVID, three huge men grabbed and pushed out of the hospital a slender & petite Chinese woman, who was waiting always quite, no issues until she apparently went to the nursing station to ask a question. None of the present patients heard anything but a nurse’s yelling “I will call security”, and that’s when all of us noticed them grabbing her at the arms and rudely pushing her away. All patients were very upset at this scene and yelled to them to leave her alone. I had an IV in my arm, but wanted to follow her and offer to be her witness. They blocked me from existing and to speak to her! This hospital is not a place where they can understand and care about sick patients. This is an execution jail, where you have NO RIGHTS & NO VOICE! And if you dare to ask anything you kicked out like a garbage bag! To my luck the police who arrived for me were very understanding, compassionate & even helpful of driving me home. I also heard them criticizing the brainless thugs saying that it was in my right to use a washroom as needed! The Ontario Health SYSTEM DOES NOT WORK!!! And the problem starts with education of those nurses, who now appear NOT to understand their true & foremost role of empathy, compassion and human dignity!!! The way it is now - we are only numbers, a nuisance to disturb them their from their main paperwork!! THIS HEALTH SYSTEM, for which we still pay, is a TOTAL FAILURE, BLATANT ABUSE OF PEOPLE AND EMBARRASSMENT TO THE WHOLE WORLD!!!!

I have been a patient here for years since my family doctor is part of the hospital system and it’s mostly okay in that it’s easier to get to across the 401 and has a mostly safe and clean feeling. I have mostly utilized the emergency department but have also had an MRI and CT scan separately from emergency care. Much better In comparison to my previous hospitals such as St Michael’s and Toronto Western hospital. There are less gun shot victims but still people on drugs/drunk and some scary car accident victims since it’s beside the highway. The waiting room has been under construction since the beginning of the pandemic. It’s been so stress inducing with the overcrowding , terrible chair conditions (why do they all split in half and have stuffing coming out and cut your legs? Also doesn’t this make them more unsanitary?), yelling/noises/sometimes screaming for help and the tvs all have cp24 on VERY loud. We are in the emergency room and we don’t need to be flooded with more negative thoughts /feelings/perspectives. It’s infectious. Senses overloaded. If there is any place to trial ways of comforting human in pain this is the place. What is currently happening is just wrong. It’s just an extension of a goodlife gym (tvs with terrible programming for the masses). It already feels inescapable. If you don’t want to watch that tv then there’s the food network. As if that doesn’t cause more than half of our issues. Chill cheese hotdogs poutine? Cake boss ? This network rarely features anything “healthy”. additionally, we can’t even have food in the emergency room. Why can’t they play something educational. Helping people to see beyond the current circumstances or to have better coping mechanisms or inspire them to be better and learn in the process of pain. To transcend the present while being present in their bodies. Okay something Informational and have some sort of meditation/ spa/classical music/binaural sounds on if they need sound. The tvs can have subtitles. It’s a lot to handle sensory wise especially for those who can’t help but be empathetic to others around them. It would also be helpful if someone doesn’t bring numerous family members to the hospital while they wait. Nurses are often heard and seen laughing and talking about patients which can add to the impatience of the patients. Please be mindful that there are people in pain that aren’t able to not take this personally and not feel like this is a lack of caring for them and everyone around. Please advocate for ways to help yourselves as staff get the support you need. I also agree that it’s hard to understand what is being said on the system for names being called. Competing with the TV in addition to it having static. To whomever designed the washrooms in all areas- Can you please put a hook or two in each washroom so one can hang their jacket and purse as many of us don’t go to the hospital with someone who can hold these items (not just for concerns of theft but true presumed issues of juggling items and contamination). If you come during the early mornings (3-9) you might have a quicker visit but unlikely as many staff need to get called in. General wait time for me has been 5 hours. In 2022 I waited many hours before having to be transferred to a specialized hospital for sexual assault. This could have been avoided if the triage was informed that these cases went to another hospital so that they could transfer me before admitting me and having me explain to three different individuals along my journey (plus two more at Scarborough). This might be a far out request but perhaps one day you could have a water cooler with cold and hot water or perhaps if there are nurses who are not currently doing something, instead of being on their phone they could hand out some water just as a reminder to the patients they haven’t been forgotten about and also just to keep everyone hydrated during the many hours here.

Reasons or Excuses Very sad and heartbreaking to know of the pain and suffering of many patients and their families no matter how or why. When it is also due to negligence and cruelty it is even sadder. Noting the jobs of healthcare workers can have great difficulties, it should also be noted that most patients can also be having great difficulties, in dire stress, hard working, overworked, burnt out, out of work desperately searching for work burnt out, financially destroyed, losses, grieving, anxiety filled, trauma, injuries, illnesses, terrible diseases, life and death situations, etc. A lot of us still would never be cruel to innocents. There are legitimate “reasons” for the very poor level of healthcare available (partly the faults of those in power, the governments). I don’t blame the people who work at the hospitals “up to a certain point” for long line ups, long wait times, “certain types” of innocent mistakes, “certain types” of things not getting done that should, and some other problems (unless they are not doing their jobs). They can’t be blamed for “certain types” of crankiness in them “at times“ or “certain types” of burnt out related behaviour, etc. That should apply to everyone though. However, in regard to other certain types of attitudes, certain types of pure negligence, deliberate dereliction of duties, certain types of deliberate bad behaviour, nastiness, uncaring, selfishness, not doing their jobs, no compassion, or even to the extent of cruelty, and abuse, the “reasons” for the other problems cannot be used as “excuses” for the inexcusable types of behaviour and harm being done to the vulnerable. It all depends on individual characters of the doctors, nurses or staff members. So excuses for the inexcusable doesn’t fly with me. If the rest of us inflicted the same type of harm on others that some doctors, nurses, vets, medical staff, etc. inflict on innocents, we would be held accountable. Excuses would not accepted. The medicals out there are not above being held accountable. Given what their jobs are about, it is even more important that certain attitudes and behaviours be filtered out, and not be given excuses to. We are talking about pain and suffering and life and death. Check certain attitudes at the door before a hospital shift or get a job that doesn’t hold the same types of risks to others because of those awful inexcusable attitudes. Governments, both federal and provincial: are you going to be continually deliberately negligent as far as healthcare is concerned? Inexcusable things have been going on for decades. There is too much corruption and propaganda in Trudeau and Ford. Other politicians are just as bad. They are destroying Canada in many ways. However, in general our Canadian citizens and society are at fault as well - enabling it all. I had an extremely unacceptably bad experience here. It almost killed me. Others obviously have had legitimate terrible experiences also. If you happen to be a lucky one with the luck of the draw, do not disrespect the preventable legitimate pain and suffering and life and death situations of others. Btw, to note, I happened to witness plenty of staff. There was not any shortage of staff that was at fault for the terrible experience. It had nothing to do with shortages, burnt-out, etc. It was attitudes, and bad characters. Credit though does go to some staff, and there definitely are some, who no matter what, they do not have it in them to take things out on others especially the vulnerable.

Finally, I completed the journey in North York General Hospital today. I came at 12:30am, it’s almost 8am when I saw the doctor, everything completed with 2 mins! I totally respected the doctor, nurse and all related staffs, but who care of us ? The nurse mentioned Oh there’s only one doctor to take care all in the night, but my question as below: 1. I came at mid-night, why the Night Shift doctor just gone in the morning, and the morning shift doctor see me after 8 hours when I came here. If as nurse mentioned, he is super busy, but why he didn’t completed his job, especially for a doctor, if he didn’t care of the patient, but just left the patients to next shift, we can’t called this guy as doctor, but just worker! He didn’t qualified to name as doctor. I’m super busy for my job as well, but I always keep my professional and responsible for my customer in the daily work! 2. If as nurse said, there’re other top urgent cases, but why this is called emergency service, we totally understood the situation, but you can’t push the your worst service to patients, if this logic is right. Every industry can do same thing, when we go to the bank, we were waiting for 8 hours which cannot withdraw the money, the bank worker can say: there are other top urgent people withdraw the money, if we dial the phone, but it did not work, the telecom carrier worked can say, there’s other top urgent events need network, you need wait, if we copy this logic to all, there’re nothing in this world! The most important, as health care worker, if you saw the worse experiences from patients, you need report the case to hospital management to see what’s better solution to address this issue, not only push the worst situation to customer, especially I can wait to withdraw the money, I can wait for a phone call, but how can we wait for a sick ? Every industry have improved the better customer experience, but from my experience, I didn’t see anything in this hospital! 3. The nurse mentioned, if you go to other hospital, even you need wait longer time, but why we need compare between ‘worse’ with ‘worst’, why we can’t change to better and best ? I can see there’s nothing can change by one day, but if there’s not any plan for the future, this isn’t not impact for healthcare, but even more!!!

This is generally a good hospital but the wait time can make things difficult sometimes. Fortunately during my visit at around 3am things went relatively quickly. I had triage, registration, blood work and an IV with pain meds and fluids within about 15 minutes. The folks at the ER were very nice albeit a bit busy. But they were understanding and accommodating to me which I really appreciate. Stana was my technologist later in the morning and she was fantastic. She explained everything and was very professional. While waiting for the results of the DI, I met a volunteer named Christian who was super nice directing me where to wait and offered me a cup of tea as j was having trouble keeping my eyes open after only sleeping for about an hour since I first arrived at the hospital. The green zone is absolutely the worst though. I had two different people tell me "I can't help you" when all I did was ask my place in line because I've been here for over 2 hours and at the hospital for over 4. Absolutely ridiculous. No empathy, nobody cares. That's a real piss off since all I was waiting for is a doctor to tell me what's in a report from DI which has been prepared hours ago. Ultimately my diagnosis led to a surgery consult which was scheduled VERY quickly- about a week later. My surgeon Dr Jain was incredibly professional and so kind. He explained everything in explicit detail and assured me I'd be taken care of. On the day of the surgery I was really nervous but again Dr Jain was there for me, assuring him and his team would do their utmost for my safety and comfort. It's now been several days after my surgery and I am healing well though in quite a bit of pain still. I just want to express my deepest gratitude for the countless people involved in my care from ER to OR. They do a largely thankless job and make such a difference in the lives they touch. Thank you for helping me.

Poor Admin Staff Very rude careless triage registrar They spend more time chatting and laughing without care for people waiting to be registered. I was kicked out because I asked when the nurse can register me. There were only three people were waiting to be seen y the triage nurse but she was ignoring all of us. This was at 6pm Easter Sunday. Soon as I raised the question all of sudden the security was called and the head nurse came by and without asking any question she asked me to leave and I was escorted by three security personnel to outside the premises. All I stated was that in any emergency department there is at least one triage counter is open attending to patients. That was it. I waited over 1/2 hour because the new lady was chatting and enjoying her conversation with two other male nurses without any care for the waiting patients. Now I am at Major Mackenzie hospital and honestly it took less than 5 minutes to wait and register. I have been living in North York region less than 5 min. away from the North York hospital for over 30 years. In fact my son was born there. However the quality of service has gone down for the last 4-5 years. I have been taking my family to many other city hospitals where the administration staff were very attentive and fast. Shame after all these years to see how certain administrative nursing staff are playing God and they this their job which is admitting the patients are more important. I was shocked to see that the nurse in order to hang on to her improper unprofessional conduct she had to lie and call for security. There was no rudeness nor there was any angry or in appropriate conduct. Everything went out of the proportion and was made into a scene by the registration nurses (only 2 of them). Well happy Easter Sunday to them. I hope their loved ones do. Not experience the same.

My visiting 86 year old dad fell off the bed while sleeping and badly bruised his head. The paramedics said that he seemed OK but advised us to check him out internally at the hospital, which was the NYGH only 2 minutes from our house. The staff were kind and friendly. The initial ER assessment was at 4.30am and quite fast, but had to wait a little bit after that as the CT faculty opened at 7am. However, as soon as it did open we were done by 7.30am, including all check ups by the physician, Dr. Sommers. Bear in mind it was the early hours of a weekday morning when we visited, so the wait may have been shorter than expected, but the staff were professional courteous and kind through and through. We experienced the same kindness and compassion when my wife delivered our younger child there many years ago too. We were lucky the hospital is close to our house, as my daughter dropped me off there, while my mum accompanied my dad in the ambulance. If you’re parking there, it can be quite expensive though - about $5/30 minutes or $23/day (without in/out privileges) or $24/day (with in and out privileges). So if you’re expecting to stay more than 2 hours there, it’s worth just to pay the maximum daily rate. If you have to come on multiple days, then there are multi day passes which turn out to be much less per day.

I called in to ask questions about the ER, saying I fractured my ankle and asking for a wait time. The lady was so rude to me and only answered yes or no questions. I asked a simple question roughly how long the wait time is and she said no. THEN i called scarborough general and they immediately told me " wait times vary- but you are looking around 2-4 hours". This lady gave me a range which i appreciate so much. But on May 10,2023 at 10:50AM I called ER and the lady was extremely rude and did not want to help me at all. Please train your staff accordingly and be more respectful. I 100% will never come to this hospital based on that one receptionist that picked up that phone call. The one regret I have is not to ask for her name because if i knew her name I would definitely complain because this is not how you treat patients. This receptionist/nurse had no energy, no enthusiasm, doesnt seem to care about her job nor people calling in. The hospital is to welcome people with injuries, but this lady made me want to stay away from any healthcare possible from this place. If you are looking to call ER and it isn't a serious emergency, please call a different hospital, save your time. If anything a walk in clinic or even google would be more respectful to you.

This was the worst experience of my life. i am taking some medi and seems caused serious side effect. Also my pharmacist said I may have NMS (Neuroleptic Malignant Syndrome) so go check for it before taking any medication for my treatment. They made me sit for 5 freaking hours as NMS described as higher fatality. I approached to the nurse and asked if I even been called while I was away like washroom or getting water. Told I was not called and keep waiting. 5hrs with this meaningless sweating, chest pounding, 160/100 blood pressure and nothing done. Asked a nurse I have to leave for my kid and was just told okay go ahead. I am not mad at waiting for 5hrs but their professionality. When I talked to the nurse she seemed she doesnt know what NMS means. What I needed was to see a doc before just keep taking this medication and make sure it is just side effect not NMS. 5hrs waiting with these chest pain, chest pounding, sweating and high blood pressure on solid sofa was a torture for me. I even asked nurses twice that I an feeling terrible, while I am so cautious not to bother them. They said they called me LOL what a liar

It's very difficult to understand that people in Toronto are seeking for health care, they have very less options. Family doctor, walk-in clinic are all requested upfront appointment that never open 7 days/24hr and waiting time at least couple days (never in the same week). When you sit in ER, you can see if walk-in clinics or family doctors are available for them, they don't need to come to ER to see a doctor. I vote for this ER because I couldn't find anywhere to see a doctor as soon as possible. My family doctor always ask me to book appointments and he/she never will be available in the same day or next days. Asking walk-in clinics I got the same response. In finance crisis, there are more people come to ER to ask for some pills or something else that they may not affordable or avoid to get it from pharmacy or they don't have a doctor to give them prescriptions. Thanks to Canada Healthcare system, never can be better. Highest personal income taxes support for war, Refugee and another country like Ukraine. Not really care for all Canadian.

Referred by our GP to the ER that my patenter had low blood pressure & shortness of breath & dizziness, because she had an infection going on. Rushed to this hospital but still we waited in the ER for 4+ hours and finally saw a doctor. The doctor kept interrupting my partner while she was talking about her condition and finished the examination in less than 5 minutes. The worst part was that when we left the hospital, the hospital pharmacy was closed (at eight-ish PM, seriously?!), so we had to return to my home pharmacy for the prescription. To make matters worse, the pharmacist discovered that the doctor had prescribed the wrong medication, which my partner is strongly allergic to. We had clearly informed the registration nurse about her allergies to that certain type of antibiotics, if the hospital pharmacy was open we could have found out at the hospital and had the doctor correct his prescription! It was too late to return to the hospital and it made no sense to go through all the ER thing one more time just to traumatize ourselves.

Review from a former long time employee. Be careful of being employed here. Despite filling in the proper paperwork, they failed to enroll me in the pension plan for almost a year until I pointed out the error Communication for information is very difficult. I am still waiting on an inquiry with one particular department. They haven't responded to my email in 3 weeks. Experience with occupational health has been mixed. My case was left unresolved for a year and I had to follow up to receive medical pay. Nygh is one of the hospitals that are not providing retroactive pay to former employees that worked during covid. What an absolute slap in the face. After working through covid, I never felt once that they valued their frontline staff Tldr, believe the rumours about NYGH. What everybody says about them is true. Although some of the staff are amazing, you have to ask yourself if you want your loved ones to come to a hospital where staff are overworked and under valued.

If I could give this a zero star I would. This is the second time I’ve been to this terrible hospital. Had to use the ER for my 2 year old who was having trouble breathing and a high fever. We went through triage and we’re told to wait in the emergency area. No one acknowledged us for almost an hour. Finally one nurse came to take our file and 2 hours later gave us a room. By this time my toddler was getting sicker and sicker. We waited another half hour before I asked her when he would be seen and what kind of tests we should prepare for. She said “I have no idea, only you would know that.” We left at this point as we realized no one had any idea what they were doing. 2 hours later some doctor called Dr. Krishna from the hospital kept calling me aggressively to say “oh you left, come back of it gets bad again.” Presumably he had a list to check off and couldn’t care less. 5 hours in, my child got no help. Awful hospital! Awful health care services. Never again!

Don't come here if you have an emergency. Today, we experienced an emergency situation and decided to seek help from the emergency section. However, the waiting time was incredibly long, despite the fact that there were only three patients ahead of us. We patiently waited for two hours until our turn finally arrived, but to our dismay, it took an additional three hours to treat those three patients. Once we were called in, we were ushered into a room where we waited for another hour and a half. The nurse informed us that the doctor assigned to the emergency section was currently attending to patients in other departments and would eventually make their way to the emergency area. It was bewildering to learn that the emergency section, as well as other sections, relied solely on one doctor. This lack of adequate staffing and organization raises serious concerns, as people's lives should never be treated as a mere game.

Worst experience ever, was asked to return to hospital because glucose was extremely high 33.8. Saw internal medicine doctor that admitted me, was put on a IV of humalog, IV came out, asked nurse to restart, waited over 4 hours never restarted, harassed by security to wear face mask, which I am unable to do due to COPD, then asked nurse to contact internal specialist, her exact words “No, I am to busy”, she was just sitting in chair doing nothing. I was there from 8:57 am, until 6:30 pm, Nothing being done, so I left nurse refuse to contact Dr for me I told her I was going to leave she stated fine go. This is patient care at your best at North York General , nurses that could care less about your health. Tha you a totally unacceptable behaviour I DO NOT CARE HOW BUSY YOU ARE, take a minute and listen to what your patient needs SHANE ON YOU NORTH YORK, no wonder your ratings are so low YOU DONT CARE FOR YOUR PATIENTS

My name is Hedaya Mursy. I want to thanks god first that I found Dr. Abheha Satkunaratnam. Second I would like to thanks Dr. Abheha Satkunaratnam so much. He was a very very very kind person and what makes him different and special than all other Doctors is he listen to me as a (pregnant patient) to all my problems and try to solve it right away and he doesn’t ignore it and make me feel better. I was with many doctors and most of them always ignored me or made me feel bad. But he always made sure his patients where happy and try to find a solution right away. I hade delivers two babies with him and those two were one the easiest deliveries ever. The last one which was two weeks ago August 24, 2023 at 2:30pm. I hope all the moms who are pregnant to get to be with Dr. Abheha Satkunaratnam Because to be honest he is very kind, humble, and make all his patients feel so much better. Thank you Hedaya Mursy

I had the unfortunate experience of being a patient at this hospital, and I must say that the patient room I was placed in was extremely dirty and dusty. It appeared that no effort had been made to maintain cleanliness in this room. This situation was not only distressing for me, but also for other patients who witnessed it. In my opinion, a hospital should prioritize hygiene and cleanliness as a healthcare institution. While it may be challenging for hospitals to secure more resources and capabilities, this should not lead to neglect of cleanliness and hygiene in patient rooms. I urge the hospital to pay more attention to the condition of patient rooms and strive to provide adequate and clean health services to its patients. These actions can lead to improved patient health and increased satisfaction with the hospital's services.

My 84 year old grandmother is suffering from pneumonia and UTI and showing symptoms of delirium and confusion. She was brought in right before Labor Day weekend We were informed the doctor is off during the weekends and that he/she woukd call us. When the doctor (Doctor Lam) finally did his rounds on Sun afternoon and we presented him with a few questions regarding the updates on my grandmother, he expressed frustration with not remembering all of my grandmothers health updates because "he has 100 patients to see today." I thought it inconsiderate and unprofessional to make an excuse and make us feel guilty for asking. We felt he dehumanized us as well as my grandmother and that we were just another number on his list. I would take pause before bringing relatives here. Or at least avoid this doctor.

  • Cathy Huang

Really bad experience, went to the emergency last week because of stomach pain. And the doctor told me I shouldn’t go there and refused to treat me normally because they have patients that have more serious symptoms than me…. And then I was told to do a blood work and he gave me some medicine for constipation, I had the medicine the same day and it gave me severe pain during the night, couldn’t able to sleep and nothing was coming out neither… Tbh I would never ever trust the doctor ever again in this hospital. They’re just so irresponsible and treat patient like some kind of jokes. As of now, my stomach is still having serious pain, I’m just so disappointed, I don’t get why this kind of doctor can still be there. Btw, the doctor’s name is Jamie Blicker, please avoid him if you go there.

I love this hospital! I ended up at North York General Hospital when I had a concussion. I was very well taken care of. The staff were friendly and efficient. After I was discharged, I had follow up appointments to ensure that everything was in order. When I had to take my mom here because she wasn’t doing too well at one point, instead of just giving her fluids and sending her home, they ran tests to make sure there were no major issues. They ruled it as vertigo but not once was this ever mentioned to me when I had to take my mom to other hospitals. Everyone in every department is thorough. Thank you all for all that you do. Side note, pay for parking. They have security here who do rounds quite often, and I’ve seen people get tickets.

THE WORST staff and doctors ever!! Came here for my grandmother many times and they gaslight and manipulate you. I was young at the time and had to take my grandmother to the ER because her head was hurting and was hot. Told them she had a “fever” and they checked the temperature then started laughing because it wasn’t hot enough to be a “fever”, like ok my bad I didn’t know at the time, but no need to be mean and rude. Doctors are also very condescending and when my grandmother could not control her shakes/leg shivers they said she’s “doing it on purpose and can stop anytime.” ARE YOU SERIOUS? They also do not care how long you wait even if it’s serious. Honestly the worst staff ever.

The emergency staff are vary lazy. I came with my 10 years old boy with a large cut on his leg that needs stitches. We have been waiting over5 hours to be seen . The nurses are very rude to people it looks like they are on a powe trip. Get off your high horses and start doing your job right !! Our hospitals are getting to look like third world countries. We need reform and better quality medical services I have to say that this hospital is acting like a private hospital. They kicked me out because I took a picture of my son waiting for 5 hours to be seen by a doctor. DON'T GO TO THIS HOSPITAL IT'S MORE LIKE A JAIL HOUSE . REMEMBER ! WE WARNED YOU ⚠️

My family and I would like to commend your staff nurse Jeff RN at 5 South East because my Mom was very ill and she was on this floor for a couple of days..We decided to make her palliative and comfort care only. Jeff was an excellent nurse who treated my Mom and us professionally and deliver the best care with so much patience and empathy. He made it easier for us so we can stay as much time to keep my mom comfortable until she passed away. We really admired his caring attitude. He is a role model for every nurse to follow...We also want to thank Christine and Venus who also cared for her.Thank you so much for everything. GOD BLESS....Tayag family

Green zone ER DR kicked me out of ER last night when I was screaming in pain, told me if I was just not so fat my wounds in my ankles would heal, and I should find a new family doctor as all he can offer me is morphine not actually close the holes in both my ankles from the wound I came in for. I was told by the nurse if I don't leave when I was screaming in pain they will call security to kick me out. When I asked how am I going to get fixed, they told me find a family doctor who can google it. If I got treated like this, I am afraid how a gun shot patient gets treated as maybe he also gets told google your own treatment and just walk it off.

Having to go to Emergency at North York General Hospital is always daunting but there are times when that is the only choice. On June 22, 2023 I had the pleasure of meeting Dr. Tanzer, who not only heals in the conventional way but also with humour. It was also my misfortune to meet a Resident who would certainly benefit from more education and less arrogance. I also met a number of very kind nurses who were considerate and caring with one that stands out among the rest by the name of Jessica in the Emergency Department that constantly went beyond the call of duty. Thank you for putting my heartbeat back to normal. Sincerely, Irena Koshchuk

They told me I’m not allowed to contact police about a sexual assault that happened in the washroom. They want to keep in on the DL but I was punished for calling the police and they took away my food/clothes/warmth when I was shivering. Nikita works in the ward and isn’t even an RN and she is abusing her power 100%! They’ve been online shopping when I’m in crisis. Very unprofessional. I will be contacting patient relations asap. They have no Psyc or doctors on the weekends. Do NOT COME HERE IF U WANT TO SURVIVE. Everything is corrupt except the peer support workers lol. I love Annette my RN but other then that ☹️ very awful place

  • Lucas Ng

I don’t come here often but when I did to accompany a family member, I didn’t expect to receive such an immense level of care and empathy from the staff here. Specifically this came from Kim Wagner who is literally the kindest and most sincere nurse I’ve ever met. She took the time, effort and care to tend to my family member’s needs and concerns, and at no point made us feel uncomfortable or forced to make any decisions. She is a saint on earth and certainly deserves all of the recognition for all of her hard work in delivering care to patients. My warmest thanks and appreciation goes out to Kim!

  • Michael W

I like to extend my heartfelt appreciation for the care that I received from Nurses, Resident Doctors, and technicians. I was there for 2 shifts changes and 3 crews at Yellow zone emergency department. I felt reassured and never in any doubts that you all work with passion. Kudos to all of you. Nurse Juliet, all the nurses who helped me for intravenous assertion, taking my pulse, checked my oxygen saturation. Doctor J. Fan, supervising Doctor K Lien, Doctor J Blicker, Doctor LanChan, CT Scan team. You guys are awesome. I might have missed your names, thank you, thank you.

  • Tracie Evaggelou

I am sitting in yellow room in emergency, I came in because I am going into diabetic keto acidosis and I am having issues breathing, the nurse said go sit down, I am trying to explain the issue with my breathing and does it care, I feel that I am going to pass out. And no one cares I have been waiting to see a Dr. For 2 hours. The moment I ask to be transferred to different hospital that will actually care for me, the nurse jumps down my throat and starts screaming “ I am calling security I am now.”, I just laugh because all I asked was to go to different hospital

  • Sam Bortman

Though my recommendation would be to steer-clear of hospitals, in general, this hospital is quite good. They appear to know what they're doing and the staff is friendly and helpful to a fault. The premises are kept clean and well organized with a good amount of signage. The nursing staff in 7/8 SE (and quite possibly other areas) should get some sort of medal. My only beef with this hospital is the daytime robbery that's taking place when you checkout from the parking lot. (I recommend a weekly pass if you intend to come visit more than twice in any 7-day period.)

  • Saiedeh Shah-Sahebi

The worst experience that I ever had about a Hospital is that hospital. Despite waiting for MRI for a year, the night before the test cancelled my appointment. After all the result was not clear for the specialist. The other time was about the biopsy of my thyroid. I was laying down for almost 45 minutes and the doctor was on his way ( late ). He told me he hadn't had this test for a long time. He hurt my thyroid and after all the result was not clear. I have to go for another test, but I asked my family physician not to refer me to that hospital.

  • Rui Xu

The emergency room here is a joke. I came in here because of mass bleeding during my pregnancy. I waited until the entire emergency is emptied out, and people arrived after me has already been treated. I expressed my thoughts with the nurse, I even said I think I’m loosing my baby, but was scold back into my seats. I guess my case was not urgent enough for them to care. I was finally seen after almost 4 hours of waiting and blood was already all over my cloths and the floor. Of course they couldn’t care less.

  • Richelle L

Janine and Natasha in the early pregnancy centre have been absolutely amazing. We had a pregnancy loss which was pretty devastating for us and I have had to do follow up blood work weekly for a few months now and more to follow, and the two of them have such positive and warm energy and always have a sweet/soft tone when talking to any of the patients... I work in a different hospital and am very pleased with their work place attitude, I can confidently say our health care system is lucky to have them!

  • Yasmine Sinaei

Not sure who the receptionist of the ‘’Gulshan & Pyarali G. Nanji Orthopaedic and Plastics Centre’’ was today July 13th at 12:40pm but she is a very rude, I’ll-mannered women. Nobody forced you to work a job you don’t like ! I broke my foot beginning June and needed a follow up in 6 weeks, which was SUPPOSED to be July 16th, when I called today to confirm the time the receptionist said ‘it was in June, you missed it’ and hung up in my face ! Why was my follow up 2weeks after I broke my foot ?!

  • Simply EMIE

Nice friendly staff and helpful. Doctors are wonderful and compassionate. . Great facilities. There are lots of parking 4.75 for 30 minutes or less or $22 for the whole day. This time they very careful of people coming in. They individually check the covid vaccine record. The hospital is very clean. Location is right at Highway 401 Leslie exit. When coming inside has to be in tge main entrance and the exit will be in the side at Gulshan building closer to emergency department.

  • mojgan oliaei

The awful hospital ever I have seen My husbands both legs are broken by 1800 pond slabs and we had to wait 2 hours just for registration and the staff didnt cares about the pain that my husband has, then between these 2 hours someone came here just for stomachache and the staff immediately accepted her to triage . When I ask them why this happened they just stopped me and said they don’t wanna explain and talk to me about that . I will never recommend this hospital to anyone.

  • Gail Gabrielle Calinog

Went here for severe headache and nose bleeding that has been occurring for months. I arrived at 8 pm and until 1-2 am we were still waiting for them to finish attending to us. The waiting time is terrible. I should’ve just slept it in instead of wasting time here, only for them to give me NaCl 0.9% drip, some medication for headache and took my blood samples. I came here expecting them to do more tests in my head, so disappointed with how staffs are so passive too.

  • Chelsea

This hospital was amazing when I needed treatment there. Went through emergency room followed by specialized care and an outpatient clinic. Everyone was amazing and very kind. Though you could tell they were rushed and dealing with a lot (they were) no one took it out on patients. I have been to other hospitals in the city and this was certainly the best. I would travel twice the distance of another hospital to go here. Thanks especially to nurse Mazie <3

  • lash elitist

Worst hospital I've ever been to. AVOID AT ALL COSTS. Each and every experience I've had here is a absolute joke. All the doctors I've had encounters with at the emergency section have been dismissive. Dr. Kumar should be avoided, he exhibited an aloof demeanor. My recommendation is to go any other hospital and make sure you bring someone with you preferrably a male if you're a woman and young. Also make sure you document everything & take good notes!

  • Jess De Guzman

Pediatric unit ..Thank you all for taking care Nicole while admitted. The Doctors were Amazing, parents are involved in planning to what is the best for the patient. To Nurse abby, liza, kanita and to all staff of the Pedia Unit thank you. To the best Duo Nurse Beth and Naomi kudos up! Nurse Beth you are one of a kind, your dedication, commitment and delivering quality nursing service is exemplary. NYGH Pedia Unit. God Bless you more and more.

  • Big Chop

The emergency nurses were the absolute best and took great care of me when I was admitted in agony with multiple large kidney stones. They were caring, compassionate and attentive. I had to have surgery 24 hours later and the doctors and nurses were just as great. I am just amazed that after enduring the last 3 years, our doctors and nurses continue to take care of patients with such enthusiasm, positivity, sensitivity and genuine care.

  • Bernard gomez

I had a deeply frustrating experience at the hospital due to excessive wait times. It felt like an eternity before I received any attention or care. The inefficiency in managing patient wait times was unacceptable. I understand that hospitals can be busy, but this experience left me feeling neglected and uncared for. Timely care is essential in a medical setting, and the extended wait times were a significant letdown.

  • Cam Simone

Hospital services were amazing. Hear a lot of poor stories that may have merit but the quality of care and attention was amazing. Had a day surgery. Dr. Smith, Nurses Heidi, Lisa and the entire team was helpful, attentive and helped make an experience for most unpleasant very nice.I cannot express how kind and helpful the entire team was from registration to getting in my transportation home. Big thanks all!

  • Naturally Aspir8ed

This review is for the ER only. This hospital is trash. It took us an hour just to get triaged and then no one spoke to us for a total of 3 hours. We just sat there. No communication nothing. On a Thursday night. I've never had such poor help at a hospital ever. 31 hour just to be triaged. Not even registered. 3 hours later is when a doctor comes to us just to find out what's wrong. Zero stars If I could.

  • k d

I recently had an MRI. First, I got extremely claustrophobic, I was feeling I'm in the grave. The lady MRI technologist was SO professional and SO kind and gave me the mental support I needed to go through the process. I was crying for 3 days when I remembered what a horrifying experience that was tho. Take your pills to calm you down before getting an MRI, it's totally OK to use help to calm down.

  • Ace

I've been having pain at the top of my left arm and the pain has spreaded downwards and it also has a hot sensation (now got it diagnosed that its nerve pain at another hospital) but the male asian doctor here said it could be caused by my posture cuz I was slouching while sitting on the hospital bed. No tests or nothing done. And he seemed certain and quickly dismissed me. Do not go here!

  • MAYA HomeStaging

There is un-organised, registration is manual, nurses are going around doing nothing, I dont know where are doctors! Its 6 hours waiting at emergency, I have pain, my car in the parking lot God knows, how much they are going to charge me at the end! Comparing to other hospitals this hospital is awful. I would not come here any more and its not recomended.

  • Ver Quiogue

On September 28, 2023 we accompanied my mother in law to this hospital to have her breathing test done , the waiting time was not an issue because luckily the section was not busy. My disappointment arise due to the fact that as of today we haven’t got the result of the test maybe that is normally how it goes, takes forever. Today is October 19, 2023

  • Brianna Simo

what a joke. Called 9 times!! 9! Each time someone picked up, then hung up right away. Literally one time someone said hello? Then hung up. Can’t do your job because you wanna talk to your buddies that I can actively hear in the background for those split seconds that you pick up? DONT WORK AT A HOSPITAL THEN

  • Elka Sarah Alikhan

This is by far the best hospital I’ve ever been too. Let’s face it, no hospital is perfect, but compared to others I have been to, this place has the most amazing doctors, nurses, and staff providing the utmost care and attention to patients. Everyone is so friendly. Wait times are exceptionally reasonable!

  • Sophia .T

I do not leave reviews unless necessary. I wish I could give 0 stars because this hospital has been the spitting image of hell, I do not to recommend to ever set foot in here, the staff are abusive and do not care for their patients. Again I warn anyone going here that it is a bad idea and you SHOULD NOT.

  • Aiko Maskay

yikes. The moment we arrived at the ER the treatment we got from the first nurse we talked to was off and aloof. At the end of our visit, the doctor had said he would provide medication for my dad who had internal pain, we waited, no sign of the doctor…who probably forgot a couple minutes after. yikes.

  • Victims Of Kurt Stephenson

Sharonie Valin is the worst physician imaginable. She entered my room, without knocking, late by 80 minutes, did not apologize, and was extremely malodorous (she smelled like feces). She was incompetent, and when I followed up to report her, she refused to provide the information needed to report her

  • Firoozeh Ardeshiri

Ms. FE is a nurse working on the 8th floor of North York General Hospital. She’s very professional, accountable, cooperative, knowledgeable, patient, well mannered, and… My husband has been hospitalized on the 8th floor of NYGH since September 21, 2023. He has had a few nurses, but FE is the BEST.

  • Narges Dibaji

Teach your personnel common sense and politeness. Don't curse and hang up the phone because my voice didn't reach her ears well. You chose this job yourself, so learn to accept responsibility properly. The hospital staff are so ill-behaved and immoral, as if they were forced to work like slaves.

  • Lavin Arghash

Terrible hospital in the world. All nurses they are so rude. And treatment and lineup Terrible. The nurses are uneducated and rude and uneducated. They killed my husband 45 years old in August 2022.we came from Iran to this garbage country. northyork general killed my husband by medical mistake.

  • roblre erlobr

Arrived at 830 am now 807 Had to sit all day in a chair with a sore back. Came because of abdominal pain that is only getting worst. They figure you can go to Tim's for food I guess. This is an extremely stressful environment for me and so far. NOT MUCH HELP although the iv made me feel better

  • Srunaj Reddy

It's kind of like punishment and they teach you a lesson not to come to them until you are sure you are going to die. Came at 7 in morning for a severe stomach pain, they kept me waiting hour after hour with no food and information, and it's 4 pm now. Don't know what they want to convey

  • Jess

Son had a strong reaction to eggs on Sept 7 and from triage, registration to getting a prescription, it took only 45 min. During my short time in the ED, the nurses were very polite (and understanding) to all the patients. Can’t say the same about the outpatient pharmacy though.

  • Sasha Roach

Just had an incredible experience at @NYGHFoundation surgical department! The level of care & professionalism from the healthcare workers was outstanding. Huge shout-out to my Doctor and Nurse Julia for their exceptional service. Thank you for going above and beyond #Heroes

  • Connor Boucher

Incredible hospital. Doctors seem to actually care about you and the nursing staff is caring and attentive. I spent over a year in and out of a hospital in Halifax with no answers whatsoever. With 72 hours here, I got all my answers and they saved my life. Thank you NYGH.

  • Afrin Farzana

Very well maintained, clean and organized. I gave birth here to our first daughter in 2021. Nicely maintain COVID protocols. Food was good because I stayed here few times. They don't serve nasty food for over night stay patients and 1 visitor gets food too.

  • shahram golestani

It seems the hospital has a serious shortage in doctors. We were around five patients in the emergency room at 4 am, and after around 2 hours still we were there. Came back home without seeing a doctor. But during this time they cleaned the floor 3 times.

  • Ananda Wahyuni

The nurses and doctors are always nice and friendly, the waiting times are acceptable. So far I think the best hospital for emergency care in Toronto, I don’t have any issues with my visits , the place is clean and well maintained. The staff are helpful.

  • Layla Perera

I would like to thank North York General Hospital, especially the doctors, nurses on the 7th floor north wing and the 5th floor southeast wing, for the great care of my husband. I can't thank you‌ enough for the excellent care and support you have shown.

  • Wenlie Lin

My husband went to ER six days ago for gallbladder issues. Got admitted five days ago. Everyday he was told there will be a procedure. He has not been allowed water or food since day one. He is dying of hunger before they could give him a surgery.

  • Chanika Clarke

Wow wow wow! Such wonderful people work here! Clean, organized kind helpful gentle people! Nurses like, Paul, Angelina, Patrick, Cheryl to name a few were so amazing! The others were as well but i didn't get the name! I would DEF go back here!

  • Jim Soong

My first time ever experiencing poor service at NYG hospital in 25 years. Discharge was at 9 am, but they forget to run test and was there till 4 pm. Nurses need to be more responsible with follow ups and communicate that to the next nurse.

  • Donna Jacobs

My husband went to the ER last night for some cardiac issues and we want to sincerely thank all the staff there for their care, compassion and professionalism. They were extremely thorough and cared well for him. Thank you NYGH!

  • Tracey Tse

Went in for an amniocentesis today and the staff there were incredible, especially the ladies performing the procedure. I was nervous going in, but that quickly subsided. I couldn't be more thankful for this experience.

  • Tannaz

I had a disappointing experience at the hospital's emergency section. Waited for three hours . And the doctor seemed impatient . The rushed behavior made me hesitant to ask all my questions about my condition.

  • Carlo Carlos

One of the best hospitals Ive been to in the GTA , will go again over others . Rather make the drive NYGH even if it’s a little longer. The nurses and staff are amazing , very thankful much love

  • Ghazala Naqvi

Needed ultrasound done. The nurse was very helpful, polite, and knowledgeable. I didn't have to wait long. Very good experience except the cost of parking is high as any other hospital.

  • M K.

Incredible care given to my mom in the ER. Every doctor and nurse we dealt with her compassionate and attentive. The most positive experience I’ve ever seen in a hospital

  • Banafsheh Parsa

waiting time will kill you if you are in emergency but it's the same in other hospitals too. This hospital has very good doctors in gastrology such as Dr. Elkashab.

  • mostafa zhian

Great hospital in the north york area, well knowledge nurses and doctors and updated health care equipments, friendly staffs and clean and shiny patients floors.

  • Shelly Lu

very nice employees. i took my grandmother here for some exams and checkup and dr trevor woods was always smiling and very happy. she enjoyed her visit !

  • Oren sh

Absolutely worst emergency dep. Very rude nursing staff zero patience or empathy. Not something you should expect as a patient seeking a medical help.

  • Masoud Soltani

I visited this hospital for the first time It was very clean and tidy quiet and calm Good and fast service friendly Everything was perfect
