My wife and two children visited Plates at around 3:00pm on a Friday afternoon. First I had to ask if they were open and was told there was no buffet but we could order A La carte. The only people dining in the restaurant was us and one other gentleman by himself so I was a little concerned if the food was going to be good. That concern soon disappeared as I took my first bite. My wife ordered a Chicken Kothu, I ordered “Rice and Curry” off the menu and asked for the Mutton one and my daughters decided to split a club sandwich. We also ordered a few soft drinks and one fruit drink. The water they serve by default is filtered Cinnamon Grand water which was fine. The mutton rice and curry I ordered came with sides of beet root, dhal, beans, stir fried cabbage and an onion pickle as well as one papadam. It was fantastic, I’m actually sad that I didn’t discover this place earlier in our trip since we have been here since early December and only have a week left. My wife said the Kothu was excellent as well and no complaints from the kids on the club sandwich with fries. The entire bill came to slightly over Rs11,000 which is around USD $30. We could definitely never get a meal in the USA like this for anywhere near $30. We all said we will come back to Plates again and maybe try their buffet before we leave. The waiter who served us was also very nice and answered all our questions. He recommended the mutton rice and curry to me which was great so I was happy with his service. If you are in Colombo and you don’t make it to the buffet here, try the a la carte option, we really liked it.

We visited there on 6th of April for celebrating a birthday. The buffet was available from 7 pm to 11 pm and we reached there around 7 pm. The birthday celebration was informed earlier when I do the reservation and they have already arranged a piece of cake with the wording I requested. When it comes to the buffet - Buns corner - 6/10 Soup corner - 5/10 Salad corner - 8/10 Seafood corner - 8/10 Meet stations - 9/10 Nuts - 9/10 Cheese corner - 7/10 Pizza corner - 7/10 Pasta corner -8/10 Indian - 10/10 ❤️ Western - 7/10 Sri Lankan - ‍♂️ Japanese - Dessert corner - 5/10 Biryani n lemon chicken curry was excellent. Good verity on seafood. Nuts collection was also beyond expectation. Though the dessert corner had a chocolate fountain, the other options had no variation. Most of the items were not refilled. Totally unsatisfied with dessert corner. It’s almost 0 to 10 when it compares with cinnamon lakeside’s dessert section. The service and hospitality is good but I cant say it was excellent. We had to ask several times to refill our glasses. They served the complimentary cake at the end. Cost : Standard price was 6800LKR at the moment, but with a credit card offer (Union Bank - 30%) it only cost 4760LKR pp for us.

Chicken Biriyani

During the stay at Cinnamon Grand, our first morning's dinning experience was not the most pleasant as we waited for awhile for coffee and had to request for it a few times. However, Sous Chef Asanka made a positive impact. He not only checked on us a few times but created a new dish for us. Unfortunately, we only experienced his warm hospitality just the first morning as he was off the rest of the days due to some unforeseen circumstances. However, Priyankara who became our favorite server along with Anuradha who took care of us initially during dinner were wonderful during the rest of our stay there. Anuradha was the only server that followed the etiquettes of serving wine properly during our stay there. And he was friendly and willing to learn as we gave him a few suggestions. Loved his positive attitude and desire to better himself. Priyankara was amazing with lots of energy and a big smile that was covered by a mask but evident from his eyes. The breakfast buffet had a great selection of both local and international dishes along with fruits and bakery items. We look forward to seeing you all the next time we stay at Cinnamon Grand. Thanks for taking such good care of us. We send you our gratitude.

The dinner buffet was top notch, and seconds to nothing better than shangri-La in variety abd the overall taste . I really loved the Japanese cuisine section, it was exquisite. The dessert section was fairly okay. The chocolates were nice, but all the chocolates in different shapes tasted the same. It was nice to see, but I was not a fan of the taste. "With all due respect, I loved the chocolate sticks, but not the liquid filled once." To be honest, I have never seen chocolates on a dinner buffet at any five star hotel in Sri Lanka other than Cinnamon Grand. I loved the plain chocolate sticks, trust me!!!But it was finished and I never saw it coming again, so make sure to finish the main course fast to have those, or it may run out of stock The food was great overall. I loved it so much. Definitely, no offence , but it was better quality than the Waters Edge dinner buffet. Take a visit!!!

This definitely the best buffet I've ever seen. It has so many varieties and is so colourful! There are many cuisines to try out and each of the cuisines have multiple dishes to enjoy. This is one way to taste the food around the world without even travelling. It is around 6000 per person but considering the number of delicacies compared to other buffets which charge the same price, it is definitely worth it. Other than the food and their varieties, the atmosphere was pleasant and the staff were very helpful even though they were busy, they punctually refilled our glasses with water, not like most hotels where the staff only refills at the start and not seen for the rest of the buffet. I mostly have these types of mini inconveniences like this but at plates, I had no issue at all!

One of the best buffet's in colombo. Had a gret time. Food was really delicious. One of the rare hotels that have moist fresh cakes in desert section and I have been to 20++ 5 star hotels around the country. Really loved the Asian section and curries were really flavorful. Vietnamese sea food curry was my favorite. Meat dishes was also well cooked and moist. Fish roulade was another favorite dish of mine. As for the desert section warm chocolate pudding and bluberry cake was the best. Bluberry cake was so moist. Staff was very friendly and accomodating. I went to celebrate my birthday but since it was the day after the birthday we didn't plan anything special. But when the manager heard about it he went an extra mile to gift me a chocolate cake. It was really sweet and pleasant suprise. Manager's name is Dilanka had the best customer service. Cannot recommend this place more.

Yesterday we visited with our class mets after 47 years total 8 of us. We did a reservation and we were their by 12.15 pm every one was happy to see grade one friends. The service was good and they had a very good speed we were totally disappointed about the display of the food name board they have highlighted and visible roasted poke we as Muslim we dont eat but the other corner they have displayed Prosciutto with small picture of a pig few of my friends served including my self its look like batter fried fish and the name board was on a side no one noticed. When I cut to eat I felt is not fish my self my other colleges informed the chef and he did take a notice much two of my friends have already eaten and its totally dissatisfie how it was treated . Paying so much every one was disappointed about the food and attitude of the staff . I would not recommend this place. Please look into this matter. You can see I have posted the photo for your reference.

Went for the Sunday brunch. The buffet was decent (very good seafood) but the naans in the Indian section were a let down. And while there were several dessert options, none were great and for some reason they don't provide waffles or pancakes anymore, which used to be the highlight! Service was decent but it would help that when one comes in they provide information on the different options available (i.e., bubbly vs normal). On the phone they also informed us that brunch only starts at 12 but seemed like it had started earlier...also if it's brunch surely it should be 11:00 start?? Music was far too loud especially if one is seated near the entrance. Also note that the glassed off section is very warm compared to the main buffet room.

Lovely experience overall with good food and good music. Had lunch experience exactly after one year from staying in and having dinner. Menu has improved. Has certain variety of items of multiple international cuisine. Thiugh its busy for saturday lunch, still gives out experience as nice city day out. The valet parking at the entrance makes it much convenient as well. Last but not least for sure, the friendly staff enlightens the experience so much more. Went for dinner buffet. I would say it's one of the best buffets that has something for everyone. Indian Corner and Sushi Corner are highlights of the day. They have a variety of meats and seafood items including whole crabs. Dessert Corner got a good collection, chocolate fountain, Rum pudding, Cheesecake, Curd, ice cream and the usuals. The buffet is worth the price here in my opinion. We ordered a variety of Mock Tail and the Pink Angel gives you the best experience, highly recommended. Service is good.

Went for a Saturday lunch buffet and what I felt was the food lacked in variety compared to other buffets around Colombo. They had a great dessert corner with many varieties. What I disliked most was the slow service in cleaning up the plates. We finished two rounds and plates were not taken away. So it was a disappointing thing and I will attach an image of the said plates. Food taste is ok and atmosphere was also fine.

Based on my experience, I would highly recommend this cinnamon grand for their lunch buffet. The price per head is reasonable at 5500 LKR, and the food quality is excellent. I was impressed with the range of options available, including seafood and meat for non-vegetarians, and a variety of vegetarian options as well. The food was delicious and very tasty, making it a great dining experience overall. I would definitely consider returning to this hotel for their buffet, and would recommend it to others who are looking for a satisfying and flavorful meal.

Excellent food and an excellent variety to select from. Referring to the Sunday Brunch. They have a video selection of quality cuisine like Chinese, Sri Lankan, Continental, Indian, Japanese and a lot more. However service leaves a lot to be desired. We were given a table on the outer area, the table was wobbly and we could barely sit right to make matters worse the place was warm and not properly air-conditioned. On requesting for another table we were told that all the tables wobble. (Something not expected from a place like Cinnamon Grand). This is at a time when most other tables were free. On insisting on a change we were offered a table in the restaurant next door. This was a complete put off. Overall I would not visit this place again.

We had a get-together there having separate places for those events as well like London Grill Hall, which had a nice interior and cosy setup. When it comes to the buffet it contains quite a lot of variety of foods and is delicious as well.

We went here for dinner (buffet) and the experience was quite average. Most of the food tasted one dimensional but the Indian food was delicious. The Chinese, Srilankan and western dishes were average. The biggest problem was the hot dishes being Luke warm at best. Some of the dishes were almost cold when sitting down to eat. The spread was quite good but lacked any prawns. The desserts though were tasty with a lot of options. However, the ice cream was nearly melted. The service was excellent. The restaurant is on the small side and it was packed the day we went so it felt a bit crowded and confined. At Rs.6250 per person I would expect a better experience.

For an international buffet the food varieties seem to be far less, some food corners serve slightly expired food. Pork is blended within other meat and probably those practice religious beliefs have to be careful when eating up. Saw spaghetti was served very watery and asked the chef and he wasn't sure how to serve them up! Seafood varieties are good Deserts corner has a good spread Atmosphere and services are top class!

Visited for the Weekend Dinner Buffet, and the staff went the extra mile by arranging a complimentary birthday cake piece for our birthday celebration. Despite the crowd, the staff took excellent care of the customers. The buffet offered a diverse selection, spanning Indian, Continental, Sri Lankan, Italian sections, and a salad bar. While the food was good, it didn't reach exceptional levels of taste. However, the desserts were a standout, absolutely delicious. Overall, I would recommend this place for a meal, even though it comes with a slightly expensive price tag.

I had a delightful dining experience at this restaurant. The food was incredibly tasty, with a wide variety of options. I particularly enjoyed the Indian cuisine. Every dish we tried was a delight. It was no surprise that the place was bustling with customers due to the fantastic flavors. The customer service was exceptional, although I have a minor suggestion for improvement. The best buffet that I went sofar (Went to the Sunday Lunch buffet). The food was great and delicious. They had a good variety as well. The service was very good and the staff was friendly and helpful. The price is expensive cost around Rs. 14,000 for double with the taxes and the service charges. But it's worth for that amount. Highly recommended for anyone who is looking for a lunch buffet near Colombo. It's recommended to make a reservation before going there as the place were crowded. Maybe that's because of Sunday.

I went for a lunch in a weekend with some of my friends. There were variety of food with stunning decorations. Actually we enjoyed it a lot. But here I'll list down my experience. Good Desserts were so yummy. Seasoned fish , honey ham, sweet and sour fish, a list of chicken meals were delicious. Oysters was fresh and great Sushi and sashimi was nice Lamb was well cooked and tasty Bad Pork chop and black pork curry was not fresh and it was hard to bite. Bestes Restaurant in den ich jemals gegessen habe. Wir waren zwei Tage hintereinander dort da es uns so gut gefallen hat. Wer Wochenendes essen möchte reserviere besser ein Tisch da es recht voll ist ( was für sich spricht). Wir hatten ein Tag das normale Buffet (was schon unglaubliche Auswahl und Qualität an den Tag legte) und an Weihnachten. Es war zwar etwas teurer aber es gab eine Auswahl an exklusivsten Speisen und wirklich alles was man sich erträumen kann. Würde sofort wieder dort essen gehen. Das Personal war äußerst höflich und sehr aufmerksam. Ich kann es nur jedem empfehlen der gut essen möchte.

Tried Plates at Cinnamon Grand a year ago for a dinner buffet and didn't love how crowded it was. Tried the Breakfast Buffet this morning and WE WERE IN ABSOLUTE LOVE!! The spread was 10/10, the Ambience was 10/10 and the service was a 10/10 as well! And the buffet lasts a whole 4 hours, so you have all the time in the world to leisurely enjoy an amazing experience! Best Breakfast Buffet in Colombo so far! I'm definitely going back as soon as possible with family! Update! Tried the Plates breakfast buffet for the third time today 16th April 2022! It was still amazing!

It's the first time I had too much food at a buffet to be honest. The spread didn't seem that much but once we started having things one by one, it feels like never ending. Plates is the newest addition to cinnamon grand restaurants replacing the old taprobane. Plates could easily be the restaurant with the best interior. It simply looks fabulous. Plates offer buffets as well as Ala Carte meals. It's quite buys especially during the weekends so advanced reservations would be required. The food is always of the top quality and the service is also excellent. It was my first visit after the Easter Sunday bombings which destroyed the old taprobane.. So it was quite emotional.. Recommend to visit..!!

Plates is a 24-hour all-day dining restaurant that offers a variety of dishes from around the world. With Cinnamon you can never really go wrong when it comes to food. I've had meals before, when this restaurant was called Thaprobane. Although I felt there was a touch of drop in the spread, the options available are still great. The food is delicious and you have many dishes to choose from. Went to both breakfast and dinner buffet with my family. The food is really tasty. We had a very pleasant feeling and experience in this place. We have our freedom and beautiful view to enjoy our food. The staff is also very kind and very helpful. Definitely recommend to all.

A nice experience, plates truly exquisite, a big selection of international meals, and a range of rotisserie options. Brunch is really popular, I think because of the food they offer. Since we had to eat inside London Grill because there wasn't enough room in Plates itself, for me, it was a bit of a hassle. However, the clear winner for me was desserts; those were exquisite and delicious. Have some space in your stomach, and you'll thank me later. Oh and try their cold salads.

Its international buffet spread is very impressive. It has lot of choices to suit different palates. The roasts section and sushi section were very appealing. The desserts corner was amazing. The ambiance was pleasing. The presence of a large number of diners was a testimony for its popularity.

We love this place. If you're looking for a Sri Lankan and American buffet, this is a perfect spot. Lota of options for desserts. They have appam, kothu, rice, meats, pastas, seafood, soups, all kind of breads, large options of desserts and more. Servers will take your orders and bring food to your table if the line is too long. Which is very nice. Everyone is genuine and great family vibe. Highly recommend for tourists.

International buffet restaurant at the cinnamon grand colombo. Huge variety of International cuisines. Priced at LKR4000net per person. Plenty of meat items. Usually packed so better make a reservation before hand. Friendly staff, clean tables. They have a srilankan corner which serves hoppers, rice and curry ect. Tip. If you are a vegetarian then you are just wasting your money. Better check out nuga gama restaurant which has a buffet for just LKR2100net per person.

I went without a reservation & they immediately arranged me a table that was great. Their services were so quick as they have assigned more waiters in the peek hours. They immediately clean the table whenever we go for the mext round. However, the food varieties were very few and the quality & taste of the food was very low. Specially the meat items. But their dessert options was great and It was extremely tasty.

It's an awesome cosy restaurant at the Cinnamon Grand hotel.it serves a gourmet and variety spread buffet for lunch on Sundays. It's got a wide selection of salads and facility for make your own too. They have a Japanese sushi and seafood section which is really good. The soups and main dishes are wide and waried in cuisine. A truly lavish spread is what it takes to describe it in few words. To sum it up the desert is matchless.

Easily one of the best Sunday Brunch Buffets in Sri Lanka. A very extensive range of food from around the world, including oysters and lobsters,all at a very reasonable price. Highly recommended.

The Sunday brunch at Plates is one of the best in the city. For 4500 nett you get an extensive selection of seafood and meat items. I couldn't try even 50% of the dishes because the spread is so massive ranging from lobsters, to oysters, mussels, baked crab, lamb, chicken, mutton, beef and so so much more. They even had iced coffee and a fruit juice and the service was also equally excellent

Last time I went (last week) the buffet was not available and all other restaurants at the hotel were closed for lunch. Staff did not pay us (and some others) any attention until we called them out for the menu. Some ingredients(for soup) were also not available, so might not get what you ask. They also forgot to bring one of the main dishes we ordered. Thankfully the food was as tasty as usual.

We went on the 23rd of Dec and made a prebooking with full payment. But they didn't send an official confirmation, I had to keep calling to confirm. The buffet spread was good and the food was tasty. The biryani felt a little dry, the saffron rice was good. Paneer was excellent. Worth the price. There was live jazz which did wonders to the whole experience. Staff was very friendly and helpful.

I love Plates at Cinnamon Grand ❤️ They have some tasty dishes and very clean. The restaurant itself is quite huge and can accommodate a large crowd at the same time. The Food is a little pricey for a country thats hit with an economic crisis. But, if you want to enjoy some good food in a cozy environment, plates is the place to go. I would rate my experience at Plates Restaurant a 8/10 ️

amazing selection of food, 13600 rupees for two. crabs, shrimps, a large selection of sushi, different types of fish, and a lot of different desserts. in addition, the service is top notch. Live saxophone played. For food lovers, I highly recommend!

Didn't have a wide variety as I expected. There was one dish called tempered rice. That is something I make on a lazy day. Didn't expect that in a buffet of top hotel . The desserts were amazing. So many chocolate varieties. The date pudding was a let down. Too much cardamom and spice. Lakeside buffet was much better.

The buffet is good with a large spread and a good variety. Located in a convenient place near the main lobby of Cinnamon Grand and the Crescat Blvd. The food is delicious and the staff is friendly and helpful. Ideal for a an office gathering or a lunch out. The prices are not too high but a bit expensive in comparison.

A very good buffet experience with family :) Many varieties of food and the excellent desserts items :) Love the Indian dishes available there and authentic Sri Lankan dishes also very good :) A calm and pleasant environment for family outings :)

One of the best buffets in Colombo.Had a wide variety of dishes. Salads section was great. They had pretty basic Japanese selection. There are tons of options available if you are a meat lover. However dessert section failed to impress me like the mains. Service was good and staff members were friendly.

Not much of a variety of food,the sushi section is yucky, but the local food is alright. Other than that, the dessert is great. But it’s ok for the price tho.

We went for a Saturday night dinner buffet. The place was nice. The food was average. Since there was a big crowd we didn't really like the hectic atmosphere.

Highly recommend the bubbly brunch on Sundays from 12-3pm, the variety of food is incomparable and delicious. Free flow champagne was included as part of the price and the waiters were attentive in topping up our glasses. Even the dessert spread itself could be it's own buffet!

The buffet at Plates is worth every penny you spend. They have a large food spread which covers different cuisines. The food is tasty and the staff is extremely attentive as well. Highly recommend this place and make sure you have a reservation before you go.

Just 5h following Saturday lunch buffet developed a severe food poisoning symptoms ( vomiting and diarrhoea). There has been a past similar experience as well related to the same hotel. So, maybe, 5 star hotels are also not immune to 'issues'.

Awesome place for having a lunch out with friends, coworkers or family. Visited this place recently and was amazed with the range of food items they had. It was well worth the cost for the buffet. Highly recommend this restaurant.

They have a large spread with different types of cuisine. Sushi was a bit dry but overall the rest of the food was delicious. Very pleasant experience with attentive staff. It can get a bit crowded & expensive though!
