I have been a few times to this cafe and it’s been ok! I was drawn in this morning by the breakfast special sign but then decided to treat me self with smoked salmon eggs Benedict and a banana smoothie. The two girls were more interested in chatting amongst themselves and playing with a dog then serving, I hope she washed her hands. My smoothie came quickly but was made with a green banana so I couldn’t drink it. Lucky I was given water. My eggs took about 20 mins, the bread, salmon , spinach was very cold and smothered with a thick cold hollandaise sauce. Also what looked like flaked cheese on top, bit unusual. I would have preferred the more traditional chives. Terrible! The eggs were cooked perfectly but cold. I only ate half as I was hungry and gave up. Very disappointing. I was the only one eating in the restaurant so I presume the kitchen wasn’t busy. I understand the salmon was smoked salmon so wouldn’t be hot but with all the other ingredients very cold it wasn’t pleasant to eat. I’ll try them again as their raspberry and coconut tart/ slice is nice
Lacklustre at best. Came here with some friends as they recommended the food. I ordered the veggie scramble, meant to come with feta, avocado, mushrooms, tomatoes and more. Unfortunately, after ordering take away, I got home to realise they had giving me scrambled eggs on toast. I went back to grab the correct order, and to my surprise, they still did not give me the correct order. Missing most of the ingredients and bland at best. With all the great options in the area, I won't be coming back.
Well worth trying this place out! We tried a number of sweet and savoury things, all of them were recommendable. There was the Russian blini (pancakes), salmon pie, honey cake, izba cake, and the bird's cake. There were really interesting stories to these dishes, as well as tasting great. The izba cake is their signature dish, and I have to admit, it truly was amazing, I want to go back to eat it again right now (too bad I'm in WA). Seriously, try it.
I stop at Petunia's almost every morning to get my coffee and for good reason! The staff is phenomenal, starkly Thais who greets me every morning with a smile and I don't even have to tell her my coffee order because of her dedication to her role and fantastic memory. It is my favourite part of the day and my housemates and I will continue to visit Petunia's as our local for bread and coffee pick-me-ups. Thanks Thais for all your hard work!
South King st/Erskineville has been desperately missing a patisserie that sells good croissants... and finally its here! We are quite picky with croisaants and here they more than stack up - they are so good even on a humid day they are flakey (which for pastry is a rare thing) on a normal day they are flake-tastic! also bought a long baguette there today which was of perfect parisian standard.
We are over from UK visiting family. We run St Peter’s Parkrun at Sydney park and enjoys a breakfast and coffee here. We even have a loyalty card! Good food, great almond croissants and friendly.

Stupidly rude service - AVOID!!! I've just been served by a ridiculously rude and disinterested young girl here. I politely asked for a loaf of sour dough which she then slapped on the counter without a word and thrust the EFTPOS terminal towards me. To be honest their bread is good, but not good enough that I would put up with being treated like this. I won't be going back.
Good coffee and great pastries (love their almond croissants). I've had breakfast here a couple of times, and I'll happily come back (pity about the traffic on King Street at times though). It's also worth checking out their daily special that's just come out of the kitchen - I've been lucky enough to grab a really nice roasted vegetable topped ciabatta for lunch.
This is my local and I love it! The reason why I choose this place is the customer service. The staff are amazing! They are always so friendly and take care of me because I’m a local. Thais is my favorite person there. She’s hard working and always makes a huge effort to go the extra mile. Also I love the sandwiches there! This is a must go!
Terrible. Couldn't get an answer on the phone before walking 20 minutes out of my way in hope for an éclairc as advertised online. They don't answer their phones, they do not acknowledge or greet you when you walk in because they are on the phone! Place has a terrible setting and display. And needless to say, they do not have éclairs!
Excellent breakfast menu with very good coffee. Delicious bread & tempting cakes for the sweet tooth. Like this cafe! Lots of tasty choices for hungry patrons. The staff are attentive, warm & friendly. We left a wallet here & it was kept safe until we collected. Thank you!! Very nice, honest people. Will continue to eat here.
Nice and friendly place for locals, good coffee and pastries and very affordable too, they have a nice lunch and breakfast menu and the portions are big. Try the New York cheesecake or the vegan brownies, they also have a very nice variety of gluten free deserts and some healthy options for those keeping the line
Opens early on Sunday (Thanks!) Great coffee, friendly service. Have been more than once when I head into Sydney for a weekend walk, always a good experience.

Great coffee and awesome pastries. This Cafe is just around the corner from my son’s place. I always grab what, in my humble opinion, is the best coffee anywhere, plus one of their wonderful croissants, when I visit Sydney. Really friendly people and great service. Well done …
I have been going here for awhile now. The staff are always friendly and welcome you with a smile. Great customer service. The coffee is very nice and the food is excellent. Their pies are a favourite of mine. They have lots of chunky meat and chicken in them and taste beautiful.
Cafe that had good sourdough bread and ham & cheese croissant. 1 star off because the bread was abit on the harder side and noise from the road.

Always friendly service with a smile, great value yummy food. Especially love their chicken sandwiches, and their pies have good chunky filling, pastries and fresh bread is yum too. Not to mention the hot cross buns. If you like your coffee a bit stronger go the double shot.
What a find. Excellent sourdough bread, better Danish pastries than you can find in Copenhagen, nothing to complain about the coffee, good burger and I have not tried the pies yet but looking forward to it. Service is excellent and prices very reasonable.
Coffee better today, but what is great is the almond croissant. Mmm so good properly done not just with some almond flakes and icing sugar but with a proper filling. Had to update this. Not had one of their croissants for a while and oh my so good.
Food is good and coffee is excellent. Last year I was paying $8.50 for a bacon and egg roll and a cappuccino, which was great value. It's now $9.50, which is the median price on that strip of King Street, but still worth it because of the quality.
This mom and pop shop is a hidden gem. It's a small operation but they are still able to supply the locals with fantastic coffee, fresh baked (onsite) breads and cakes, the best croissants outside Paris, and out of this world bacon egg rolls.
Our first visit today and it will not be our last. The almond croissants are excellent - moist almond filling, a good size and reasonably priced. Good coffee and friendly service. Also bought some multigrain bread which was delicious! …
absolutely wonderful little place. great atmosphere, great pastries and even better service. there was a lady called thaiis if I'm not mistaken who took care of us with a constant smile and a great attitude. will definitely be coming back.
Amazing sourdough bread and nothing to complain about the coffee ! The staff are great too ! Thais is best! She is very nice and friendly! If you are looking for good service, nice atmosphere and tasty bread so you won't be disappointed!
Great little space with the option of sitting in or takeaway. The sandwiches, pies and cakes are delicious. The staff are always friendly and helpful and offer great smiles. I can't recommend their seeded rolls and bread loaves enough.
I think my mouth just came when I had the almond croissant. Loses a star cause the coffee was very sub par, but maybe it’s just not for me. Plenty of other good reviews about the coffee. I’ll be back for a croissant very soon
The bread is getting smaller and more expensive, I’ve been going since it first opened. The staff attitude is getting a bit grumpy too if you question the now half loafs you are sold for $1.30 more than they use to be. P
I am a fan of bread and their sour dough rolls are amazing. Nice and early I go pickup about 6 rolls for the family. There other items are also great such as pies, almond croissants and macaroons. But bread gets me :)
I love to start my day at petunia, it became my daily routine. Very welcoming atmosphere and friendly staff. It’s really hard to find a nicely frothed soy milk but I always get perfect coffee from Thais. Great work!
Besides all the delicious sweet cakes and pastries, they also have really good savory snacks too. We had the salmon pie, which was both enormous and very tasty. Their coffee and cakes come highly recommended too.
Lovely breakfast spot that's reasonably priced. Top notch pastries, had the best almond croissant here that beats out any croissant aux amandes I ever had while living 6 years in France. Coffees are amazing too.
Front staff usually very nice and smiley. BUT...I get often coffee and almond croissant here and unfortunately already a few times I happened to buy a stale hard pastry. Please don't try to sell old stuff …
Excellent. Great selection of beautiful-looking cakes and pastries, coffees, and savoury baked goods. Gluten free, vegetarian and vegan options. Best carrot cake I've had in ages. The pricing? Fantastic value.
One of the best in the local area, the service is promt and place looks cool. The staff was very friendly, especially thais, me and my friends enjoyed the food, coffee and their smiles. Defo a visit.
One very good bakery or should I say patisserie. Croissant and sourdough are the best I’ve had in Australia. The big shock is the price very reasonable. Opens at 7am on a Sunday. Go!!!!
A great coffee is had indeed when you visit this place, Good service and good coffee. Back in the king time ago I think it used to be Newtown Beach but that’s another story review time
Their coffee never disappoint me. They have a small selection of amazing homemade pastry (must try the pies!) and cakes. The place is a bit small so suggest a quick snack or take away.
Great service. Would have given 5 star if they had milk lab as an option for the almond milk but they just had almond breeze so I couldn't have any coffee with my breakfast.
Dog friendly, great service and a bloody good bacon sandwich to boot! This is a highly recommended Newtown stop-in for a quick cuppa or a no nonsense brunch with the pooch.
Great little place with a wider than usual arrays of pastries and cakes. Very decently priced as well for the area. Coffee was good and service was prompt. Underrated gem.
Excellent selection of artisan bread at a reasonable price. Pastry is great as well and even the coffee is up to standard. Great place overall, highly recommended!
I had a great time indulging the honey cake. Excellent place to treat yourself with a Russian cake! A warm and friendly team will make this experience enjoyable;-)
Great selection of foods , fresh, tasty, friendly and welcoming! Lovely and helpful staff, specially Thais ( Very organised and efficient ). Would recommend 10/10
This family is definitely one of the most hateful families in Cenla. Preaching everyone should love everyone yet are rude and degrading. Do not support them.
We are lucky to have Petunia at the end of our street the bread and pastries a fantastic the coffee is outstanding best barrister in Newtown thank you Thais
I would walk through a thousand brambly bushes to have my breakfast here. Very kind service, incredible food, and such reasonable prices. Highly recommend.
Amazing atmosphere, along with great service. The barista Thais was welcoming and with happy energy. Would reccomend everyone for a brekkie there :).
I LOVE this place. Period. They gave me and my lady friend a little something extra (think chocolate croissant) ! :•) Kind regards, J.J.M.
No word to express my gratitude towards this people excilent hospitality great food speacialy sour dough breads and savouries mind blowing
Couldn't ask for better hospitality and amazing food at Patisserie Petunia. Thanks for constantly keeping up with quality and taste.
The avo and coffee deal was so tasty!! Only $9.5 for a flat white and two slices of sour dough with avo.
Amazing!! Had the most delicious almond croissant straight from the oven and coffee this morning.
Best breads in Sydney and lovely staff. Thais always doing the best service and great coffee!!!
Delicious food and coffee. Cakes and pies are their specialty. We go very regularly.
Friendly and welcoming, good breakfast and coffee and very reasonable prices
Love the gluten free sweets, especially the gf vegan peanut butter brownie
