Pearl's Place is a soul food restaurant located in the Bronzeville neighborhood of Chicago. The restaurant has been serving up delicious Southern cuisine for over 20 years. The menu features all of your favorite soul food dishes, including fried chicken, catfish, collard greens, and red beans and rice. I recently had the opportunity to visit Pearl's Place again. I ordered the collard greens, beets, and red beans and rice. The collard greens were cooked perfectly and had a nice smoky flavor. The beets were a bit too sweet for my taste, but they were still enjoyable. The red beans and rice were the star of the show. They were flavorful and filling. The service at Pearl's Place was excellent. Our waitress was very friendly and attentive. She made sure that our drinks were always full and that we had everything we needed. Overall, I had a great experience at Pearl's Place. The food was delicious and the service was excellent. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a great meal in Chicago. Here are some additional details about my experience: * The restaurant is located in a convenient location in the Bronzeville neighborhood. * The atmosphere is casual and comfortable. * The prices are reasonable. * The food is made with fresh, high-quality ingredients. * The service is friendly and attentive. I would definitely recommend Pearl's Place to anyone looking for a delicious and affordable meal in Chicago.

Pearl's Place is an eating establishment, however I have certainly been to far better I must say in all honesty. I seriously doubt that I will be returning there in the future. First of all, they have a dress code which is ironic since the maitre'd, wait staff, and servers were not dresses to impress themselves. As I approached the front door, I noticed the glass wasn't clean, which is a no- no for an eating establishment. Secondly, our party was made to wait until everyone arrived before we were seated. The place was small and mirrors didn't add to actual floor footage. They had menu items and offered a buffet for a certain time frame. The problem was there was one person serving breakfast items, including making omelets etc., and two people serving the lunch/dinner foods. All of the food items were on the other side of the counter behind glass, unobtainable without the three servers. The problem was the lines were long, and various persons from all over the restaurant were in line in no particular order, so we were not able to eat at the same time basically. There was two small pictures of water on the table for a party of ten throughout the entire meal, that wasn't refilled. The food was ok, but I wasn't ready to write home about it. I can take a pass on this one .... street parking only. Don't know about the restroom facilities.
I most recently visited this restaurant for dine in while I had family visiting in town March 2021 during weekday Brunch. If you want an authentically excellent Soul Food experience, this is place to come! The food is always impeccably prepared, the service is wonderful, and the experience across all the visits I have made are consistent(i.e. weekend brunch and evening buffet). You can choose to order from the menu however the buffet is the best choice really - the portions given are hearty and variety of options is plentiful so be strategic !ha there is an option to carry out leftovers based on quantity &management determination case-by-case. The atmosphere welcomes families, date nights, girls day, etc and is always calm relaxed. Lastly, there is free parking available in the lot next to the restaurant that shares space with a motel ...Definitely a good convenience vs hassling to find street parking in Chicago !

Fantastic food and fantastic service! I decided to give it a try after seeing it on a list of best places for breakfast in Chicago. It belongs at the top of the list! I sampled the buffet (which was not a typical self-serve buffet; the chef prepared and plated your meal for you). There was a great variety of traditional options as well as new things to try. The stewed apples were my favorite (Cracker Barrel has been put to shame). The service was also very friendly and they were genuinely happy to see me. The location is within an easy walk from a green line stop, which was what got my attention at first. I would walk triple the distance to get there again if needed. I was disappointed that there were not more people there because it really is a great place to dine. I look forward to returning on my next trip to the city.

We drove in from South Bend, IN. Upon entering, we washed our hands as asked (on the signage inside the front door - the bathrooms are right there) we checked in and were told it be about a 20 minute wait that we could wait outside in our vehicle for the text that they were ready to seat us. Once seated, our server/waitress bought us hot cornbread (w/butter on the side). After consulting with her, we decided to go with the buffet. The buffet is covered by glass (because of Covid-19) and a server prepares your plate as you tell them what you want on it (so many choices). The tables are covered with white tablecloths. The food was delicious! But I think the server that prepared the buffet plates made eating there much more enjoyable. I did not get his name, but he is full of character! He really made the trip worthwhile.

I'm so happy we decided to stop in on our way back home to Indiana. Let me tell "this place is a hidden gem." The history displayed throughout the walls is a history lesson in itself. The atmosphere was one of a down south Southern vibe. My waitress Diedre was the absolute best. She was very knowledgeable about the different food items on the menu. My fiancée is not a breakfast person, but he cleaned his place! Lol that speaks volumes about how good the food was.

This place has been here for decades. Just recently entered my radar since my brother in law passed and my sister had his repast here. They have different varieties of food, a buffet, take out all at a reasonable price. The owner(s) are great people if you want to reserve some tables(like a repast). Looks like 150 people can fit easily. Plenty of parking off street(a motel in the rear not open yet). I can't complain. I love this place.

First time going to Pearls I noticed things that made me question sanitation. As we stood in line to be handed our plates of food after 2pm. There was a full omelette station with cheese, bell pepper, onions, diced ham,etc sitting out from breakfast it all looked aged and Im concerned that those items were used the next day for breakfast. I attended a repass and the food was not worthy of a return visit however the hostess told me take out was way better than the food served on the line. Well because its black owned I will try it 1 more time but take out this time. I will give a take out review.

It’s hard to find good southern shrimp and grits up here in Chicago. I’m crazy for southern food and have tried to order shrimp and grits or even just grits whenever I can find them. I decided to try the shrimp and grits from Pearl’s via delivery, but assumed because of delivery times, they might not be great. Wow! I was pleasantly surprised! The food was thoughtfully packaged with foil around the container and HOT when it arrived. I was immediately hopeful. When I opened the food, I was blown away by how good it smelled and looked. One taste and I was hooked! These shrimp and grits are South Carolina level amazing! I haven’t found anything approaching the quality and taste in the Midwest. Thanks Pearls! You made my day.
From the first step into restaurant was greeted very professionally. I had the jerk turkey omelette. It was very delicious. Meat well season, hubby' was happy w/ liver & onions. All the staff we encountered we very pleasant. When in Chicago again will definitely go back.

Worth it for the French toast alone! I had a great experience here. The food came quick and was freshly made. The quality and quantity was well worth the reasonable prices. The atmosphere was very relaxed and comfortable. The decor and lighting is a bit outdated but nothing to cause concern over. I am blown away by the quality of the food here. I would make a trip out here for the french toast alone. Only recommendations that I would make is invest in better hot sauce and having a better online presence.

I wish I didn't fill up on an omelette (which was still wonderful, mind you) so I could have had more from the buffet! I was here with a bigger group at the end of a weeklong class we all took. Loved the atmosphere, loved the cornbread and the sweet bread, and let me tell you: I took one bite into a leg of fried chicken and I felt like I was back at my grandma's house even though I lost her 11 years ago. There's so much I'm missing out on in Chicago when it comes to food places. It's a bit of a drive but I hope to come back.

I went to this place for the first time and I loved it very much. The service was great and the buffet is definitely worth trying. The have a unique way of administrating the buffet (20.00) because the waiter actually serves you the food from the kitchen which is like family style eating that you experience at Italian restaurants (no customers loitering over the food). Also they do take out and serve breakfast all day. The portion size is about average, but the food is nicely prepared and tastes very good. Parking is free in the motel parking lot next door, so no need for street parking. Very historical look and feel to this restaurant and is great place to experience great soul food with great service.
My family and I visited Chicago the week of July 4th for the girls USA National Volleyball tournament. My sister found Pearl’s for breakfast. We loved this restaurant with the beautiful decor and soul food. Our server, Khadijah, was great and easy to talk too for recommendations. They offer a buffet but we decided to order from the menu. We tried the egg plate with a meat, grits and pancakes and should have ordered the biscuits. Our biscuits and grits were out of this world. They have a soul lunch menu. If you are in Chicago this is a must place to visit.

I took family there twice in one week and experienced two different chiefs Because of the vast variety of foods offered there was unlimited tasty foods to experience. Quality customer service from the time of entry and the restroom stays CLEAN & FRESH. We went there to eat and continue celebrating my mom's 75th birthday and our server Wakesha was PHENOMENAL! She was so gracious to let management about the birthday celebration they turned on the birthday song, the staff came out to sing & celebrate. Thank you Wakesha. Thank you Pearl's Place for your kindness, your awesome service & food and for an atmosphere of love!

The food was amazing I like how you can go and choose what you want so you get to see it before you eat it. The buffet was worth the price. I enjoyed it and enjoyed the banana pudding I took to the room for two days. This was recommended. I come from Flint Michigan and it was worth the stop.

I was born in Alabama, raised in Georgia, and lived in New Orleans for 16 years, so I've been looking for a place serving this menu since I moved to Chicago. It was my first visit, so I started with a traditional selection of chicken (baked was great, jerk had that delicious type of flavorful heat), mac & cheese, collard greens, and peach cobbler. Service was attentive & super friendly. They made sure we were having a good time. I left happy and full and I can't wait to go back and try more of this menu.

This place was recommended by a friend. I'm not sure if we're still going to be friends anymore after this visit. We waited about an hour to receive our order. It was totally not worth the wait. Nothing about the food tasted like soul food. It was under seasoned. The meatloaf tasted like dog food( what I imagine it would taste like). A total disappointment. The only thing that was decent was the fried chicken and Mac n cheese. We ordered a pound cake. However, we never received it. Banana Pudding had no flavor. I most definitely won't be returning.

The day I went (Saturday before mother's day) they had an all you can eat buffet for $20! And BOY.. Everything was delicious!!! The macaroni and cheese was AMAZING and the BREAD PUDDING with RUM SAUCE was literally the best thing I have ever put in my mouth! Not kidding! I wanted to go back again the next day. Lol My only complaint would be that the decor is a little dated but this place has been here forever and a lot of older people dine here so it makes sense. I cant wait to visit Chicago again so I can go back to Pearl's Place.

Food was very good. Nice size portions. My only complaint was my order wasn’t accurate. They forgot to add my rolls the cornbread I selected. And I ordered kids chicken leg and macaroni and cheese. They gave me macaroni and cheese and fried corn. Not sure how they messed that up. Order was delivered so wasn’t able to go to restaurant for them to correct it and I was in area visiting so I was disappointed in that. I would visit again.

Look, the food and service are fine, but I really have an issue with each person in my party being charged individual automatic tips. As far as I saw, this is not posted anywhere, and the waiter never stated this. Now, if I missed the sign stating this, then my mistake, but having a poster stating gratuity added to individual bills regardless of party size would've been a great help.

Was there on a Sunday evening no one bothered to tell me about the buffet we had to ask the food was horrible no taste high in foods like ox tails Short ribs of beef had no flavor at all The Dinner Rolls are magnificent The pink lemonade was terrible And the hardest let down of all was that dessert did not come in with the buffet and the was cost $30 per person. The young lady who waited on the table was okay nothing extraordinary about Her.... Not sure if I ever would go back unless someone told me things had changed.

Great place for a gathering or small meal. We had our monthly brotherhood breakfast at PP. The fellowship was great and the food was excellent. The manager doubled as the egg chef and made everyone a made to order egg dish. The toast, waffles and side dishes were excellent, save the hash browns, which were a little undercooked and over seasoned. The price was reasonable at $25/person tip included. Will eat there again soon.

Ordered breakfast for carry out. Breakfast included french toast, waffles, and biscuits. Spent about $40. It is not unreasonable to assume that butter, syrup and/or jelly would be included with french toast, waffles, and biscuits. No condiments were in the bag. Called the restaurant only to be told that I should have asked for condiments if I wanted syrup to go with my waffles. Very poor experience today.

Amazing food, warm, family atmosphere. While waiting for our table, we met Emmett Bryant (1969 Boston Celtics championship basketball player with teammate Bill Russell) - Em's birthday celebration! Em showed us his championship ring! It was my first time at Pearl's Place - we were a group of six - everyone had a great time! Entire staff was awesome, friendly, and came by the table several times to check on us. They helped with every special request!! Five stars for food and service.

Through my friend's recommendation, I made a trip to the restaurant today and ordered a takeout of smothered pork chops, mac n cheese, sweet potatoes and peach cobbler. Attention, this Restaurant is a scam! If u only buy noodles ( Mc’nCheese that tastes like hashish for example) and salat you only pay 12$. Thats ok, isn’t it? But If you dare to order ONE small chicken that tastes like salt and weed or some other meat you have to add 28$. And only after you are finished with eating they will tell you the price. At all: low quality and high prices!

Came near end of day. Food was delicious! I had fried shrimp and cabbage. Shrimp were crispy, fresh, and piping hot. Cabbage was beautifully seasoned without being spicy. Cabbage had an earthy sweetness without mushiness. I ate most of my husband's greens. They were absolutely delicious. Apple cobbler was a sweet, crusty, late night treat.

What Lunch!! Looked forward to eating here from the reviews. I was pleased beyond ny expectations. The food was great!! Down home southern cooking!! But what makes it great is the staff. From my greeter, to the server, to the chef at the buffet. Plenty of southern selections. Also you can order from the menu. Also white table linen, and a homie feel in the dining room. A must visit. Do not let the outside area or oarking put you off. Must visit. Thank Pearl for a wonderful lunch!!

Although I can't recall his name, I can remember he was the only waiter with green stitching in his chef coat. If your looking for a nice family feel restaurant this is the place. My family of 5 went in on a Sunday afternoon for the all you can eat buffet. The wait was about 25 minutes to be seated. The server was pleasant, food was good and plentiful, no major complaints. We did order shrimp and grits off the menu and it wasn’t the greatest. I’d return for the buffet, they had greens, smothered chicken, meatloaf, candied yams, all day breakfast (omelettes) etc,
Found this restaurant online before visiting Chicago for a family trip. They did not disappoint. We ordered for pickup and loved every part of our meal. We thought the food was a bit pricey at first, but with the portions they give it was well worth it! The girl thank rung us out was also super nice and professional. I'll definitely be back when in Chicago again.
This place I found on Google and the reviews didn't lie!!! I had a omelette with a little bit of everything, smothered potatoes grits with cheese bacon pancakes and homemade biscuits!!! Enough said I went to the breakfast Brunch and only eat one plate, lol lol was to fool for another round

Pleasantly pleased and surprised with how good the food is . The candied yams were a little spicy but delicious, the fried chicken was seasoned well and the Jerk turkey was good . I used to love this place. However my last 2 times here has been not good. The cornbread wasn't good, the butter didn't melt on it. My wings were under cooked despite asking for them to be fried hard. The mac n cheese wasn't good at all. I don't mind paying for good food, but I do mind paying for bad food, will not return. Disappointment...
The food was unseasoned & bland. I ordered meatloaf but it was dry. We were seated & forgotten about, I had to go to front & ask if someone was going to come take our order. When our food arrived, the plates were just dropped off & he began talking to table next to us. Did not see if we needed any condiments. More

This is my favorite place in Chicago. A buffet... with neck bones?! Tuhhhhh leave me here. You'll find me still here. The service is amazing. Definitely worth it. I brought many of my friends here too. They all love it.

I love this place it gives you Sunday morning at Big Mommas house on Sunday type of vibe. The food was fresh, service was fast and polite. They followed every CDC protocol during the pandemic. I will definitely go back next time I'm in the Chi!
The food, the vibe, the friendly faces! Amazing restaurant with a family home cooked breakfast vibe! The jerk turkey omelette was delicious and the biscuits well…can’t get enough of them.

Terrible food and service this is supposed to be a Turkey Omelette I purchased a dinner as well from all appearances I was ok with that it more than obvious its not edible however management argued me about giving a full refund for the
OMG gave me the “ITIS” definitely amazing and worth the slight wait time. Usually at black owned restaurants, the waiters are a problem but here they are great with etiquette & manners! They know how to treat you and are professional!
food was perfect. taste like my auntie cooking and that pot roast! Chefs kiss. Mac & cheese. Awesome! YAMS!!?! Now them yams was not as sweet to my level but it was still good!

Came to visit from Detroit, Michigan. I told the chef I felt like my momma was back there in the kitchen!!! Their food is so good and they give you so much. Its not even expensive. I'll be back next time I'm in Chicago.
Absolutely love this place. Wanted to run back in the kitchen to see who's grandma was actually doing all the cooking. Great selection of different types of foods on the buffet. And the biscuits ❤️
Early morning meeting. Food was great. I ate from the buffett, other party members ordered off the menu. Everyone seemed happy with their food.

Really good Soul Food buffet! The fried Green tomatoes are delicious and crispy. Don't skip the complimentary cornbread brought to the table. Is the perfect amount of sweat and savory!
Food was great did the buffet! You're able try a variety of food. I went on a Sunday so it's a little bit more expensive during the dinner hour. Service is always great. More
Wow just wow this place is a 10/10. We had Paris for a server and she was amazing. The buffet was excellent. I love all the options. I will definitely come back. More
Words cannot describe my dissatisfaction but here it goes: Cornbread dressing:UNDERSEASONED. DRY. Zero Flavor Spaghetti: Sauce thin as paper. Again NO Flavor.
I have not been here in years. The food, service and atmosphere was wonderful. Our waitress was on point. The buffet is still great. More
Mac and cheese and collards were phenomenal along with the catfish! I'd definitely eat here again, opt out of the cornbread tho!!! More
