Pie in the Sky offers a quintessential Aussie pie experience in the heart of the picturesque Dandenong Ranges. The restaurant exudes a warm and folksy charm with its cosy weatherboard cafe and bakery setup, retaining its original setting that adds to the overall appeal. The pies are undoubtedly the stars of the show here, and rightly so. Handmade with quality ingredients, they have earned the restaurant well-deserved fame for their award-winning creations. The diverse range of exotic pies on offer is impressive, providing customers with an opportunity to try unique flavors and combinations. During our visit, my wife and I tried the Burgandy Pie and the Beef Rendang Pie. While both pies tasted good and were satisfying, we felt that they didn't quite reach the level of exceptional we were hoping for. Nevertheless, the overall dining experience was pleasant, and we appreciated the effort put into crafting these pies. The interior ambiance with its rich timber floor and wall creates a welcoming and cozy atmosphere, perfectly suited to enjoying a comforting meal. However, it's worth noting that the popularity of this restaurant is evident in the long queue for takeaway orders. If you prefer a more relaxed experience, dining in might be a better option as the takeaway prices are lower. The staff was friendly and attentive, which added to the positive experience. We felt the service was efficient despite the busy environment. In conclusion, Pie in the Sky is a popular spot in the Olinda area for a reason. Their commitment to traditional Aussie values and dedication to using quality ingredients are commendable. Although the pies we tried were not mind-blowing, they were still delicious and worth a visit. If you find yourself in the Dandenong Ranges and have a hankering for a good ol' Aussie pie, Pie in the Sky won't disappoint. Just be prepared for the possibility of a wait during busy times.
Award winning pies in the heart of some of Victoria’s urban undulating scenic treasures, Olinda. So let’s break it down… Atmosphere: ***** Excellent – Has a really nice cottage feel to it; with warm colours and décor, it really gives you the feeling that you are going over to your friends place for lunch and a chat. Even with the large indoor area for seating, it still retains that homely feeling. Seating outside is available and recommended on a great day but is limited. Customer Service: ***** Real well done – There is seating service but not for ordering your food, this is done at the counter and your order will be brought to you. The representative we had was very welcoming, kind and informative, thank you. After ordering, the food was delivered in about 7 minutes, beautifully hot and ready to go. While the plates weren’t bussed, or the food not checked on while we were seated – we were allowed to stay for a long while soaking up Olinda town with its visitors. Food (why we are here): ***** Order: Classic Aussie Meat Pie, Broccaulcheez (V), chips and skinny flat white Complimentary water is provided With both pies, it is hard to not say “wow” when biting through the soft but flaky pastry, really something to experience. Classic Aussie Meat Pie - Delicious, excellent spices, thick rich gravy and nice beef Broocaulcheez (V) - Great Vegetarian Option and very tasty as a no meat option Chips – Good but could be a little better Coffee – Outstanding, made very well. Worth every cent – the pies are not really that expensive for the flavours and expertise. You can see why they are award winning. Overall: Definitely a must try! And highly recommend! It was a great lunch after exploring some of the local walking paths around the area to get the appetite up, also something I would recommend. Well Done Pie in the Sky!
Visited again on April 29, 2023. Food definitely came out quicker this time. However pies were overdone and slightly burnt and dry. Rating 3 again. What’s happening Pie in the Sky ? Visited Pie in the Sky today, 11 March 2023. It was crazy busy there and our experience was not great as per the last few visits. We waited over 45 mins for our food. We ordered five pies, fish and chips plate, large chips and wedges. Fish and chips plate was missing 1 piece of fish and the missing piece arrived after 10 mins. Place was very understaffed and the staff was overwhelmed by the amount of people who came in today. But the four staff who where at the front still did a great job to service. Still our favourite pies joint but really need to increase staff and lift up the service level. Comments from previous visits below and I gave 5 stars before. This is our favourite pie place. My daughters and I drive up the mountain to come here often to enjoy the best pies in the land. While I order the slightly hot beef rendang pie with chips the girls always order 2 tandoori chicken pies each. We sit and have a chat, enjoy our pies with a cup of latte and hot chocolate. It’s our comfort food and we love it. Great atmosphere to chill among the trees of mount Dandenong. Highly recommended. A must try.
It was a decently busy day but we had to wait for 35 minutes for a few pies, no mash or anything with them, just the pie. I understand it’s a busy day but 35 minutes just to warm up some pies and put them on a plate? The saddest part is that the wait wasn’t even worth it. The pies are so unbelievably mid, you can get much better and cheaper ones from a gas station… unfortunately the drinks were not much better either. The barista on the day was clueless and served us a latte instead of an affogato, thinking that’s what an affogato is. A different staff member had to come get it and remake it correctly. The chai was also extremely sweet and had little to no chai flavour and even the drinks took 30 minutes to get to the table. We had a clear view of the barista preparing drinks and it was only one person, moving at the pace of a snail… I have worked in hospitality before. Never in my life have a seen a barista move THAT slowly, much less during busy hours. She looked confused the whole time she was trying to prepare drinks. Very disappointing experience. At least the atmosphere was kinda nice and cozy but other than that… meh.

AVOID EATING IN AT ALL COSTS! I went there on Sunday around 11am, place was not busy and there was at least 6 front of house staff working. Being served initially took longer than expected (they are pies, not a 3 course meal being ordered) but not excessive, although 3 of the staff thought it an approriate use of time to hold a discussion behind the counter while 8 customers waited and only 1 person served. After ordering we waited in the restaurant for 30 minutes to be served a mediocre pie and sausage roll that would have taken 30 seconds if sourced from the pie warmer. When providing feedback the server had the gall to suggest it was because they were understaffed! In the 30 min we waited we saw: -1 patron served his pasty, complain loudly and walk out after taking 2 bites - another set pf patrons looking around frustratedly for 15 min before being served dry looking scones, jam and cream, subsequently leaving at least 2 behind - A table of 4 waiting longer than 30 min for pie and chips The restaurant was 1/3 full in terms of tables occupied but <1/4 with people. I'd hate to see this place full.
Heard many a great story about this legendary pie in the sky however was severely disappointed when I visited today. Waited in line for 25mins even though I could see many empty tables, staff were mostly chitchatting and not clearing them. The only person who actually seemed to be working was a man who looked like the manager. After we were sat, an iced coffee and bottled drink took another 25 mins to arrive. No water was given until we asked for it. 30 mins after we were seated, we asked a waitress how much longer they would be, to which she replied she would go check. She never got back to us. The pies took a total of 50 mins to arrive. It looked to me like they prioritised the takeaway customers, as about 20 of them got their pies before I did. Did they only have one oven in the kitchen? Were they making it from scratch right then and there? I will never know. The pies were absolutely tasteless in a way I didn't think possible. Taking a closer look at the pie awards, I could see they were from 2001. That made sense.
Place used to be good for many years but noticed the drop in service over the past few months post lockdown and today was the ultimate. An extremely rude guy who when asked what his name was just said he was the boss. Ordered at 1325 and food did not arrive in expected time frame. Gave the girl a wave from outside window asking her the statues of the order with order number and in five mins The boss came out and did not apologise but rather went in to say don't knock in the window many times as it intimidates his staff. Said this In a rude manner. Answered saying did not Knock many times and he said he was going to check on the order. Returned less than two mins with the food and said that is all he is offering and that he can't offer a refund. The food arrived at 1404 with attached photo. This boss was extremely rude and would not recommend this joint to anyone and will be telling everyone know about this and to avoid this place. The boss can have all the tourist dollar. Rude and arrogant Boss will go nowhere
Pie in the Sky Visited on 20/3/2023 Due to the topography of the sloppping land, there are some steps to go up the shop, which has a L-shape verandah for outdoor dining. The interior has rich timber floor and wall, and consists of three levels. A booking was made for our group of14 people, just in case the pie shop was packed. It was an ill-founded concern. Only a few people presumbly tourists were gathering around looking at big menu board on the wall above the front counter, deciding what to order. There was a good variety of exotic pies. The takeaway prices are lower than dine-in prices. My wife ordered a Burgandy Pie while mine was a Beef Rendang Pie. As a critical pie lover and eater, I passed the puff pastry for the pie casing, but failed both in terms of taste and fillimg texture. I could not taste a drop of Burgany in the Burgandy Pie, and the Rendang Pie is more like having a chillie stew filling. Technically speaking, rendiang is a dry curry; it was not meant to have excessive gravy.
The first time I visited Pie in the Sky was a disappointment. Today I decided to give them another chance to redeem themselves as they seem to have great reviews. I really shouldn’t have bothered. Firstly I took my 4yo daughter to the toilet and these were absolutely filthy. I had to plead with my daughter not to touch anything as there was filth on the handles, basin, floors look to have never been cleaned etc. We then ordered a pepper steak pie and sausage roll. The pie had an adequate amount of chunky meat in it but was a little dry, flavour was good but I have had better at other local bakeries. My daughter ordered a sausage roll and this was sooooooo dry and surely had been sitting in the window forever. I myself was interested to try the middle ( non fry bit) and it tasted wrongly sour. Worst sausage roll quality I have ever been served and worst flavour. Disgusting!!! I think a health inspector needs to get down there asap as I am certain this place is not to standard.
I'm not sure where (or when?) the hype for this place comes from. How old are those awards? The pie was exceedingly poor, with lots of filler and gelatine - exactly the texture I hate about cheap pies, not what you'd expect from a pie demanding $7.50 of your hard-earned. And the pastry was really not overly good - certainly not very robust either. The Vanilla slice was merely... average, and the passion-fruit glaze was unwelcome on my palette when I'm buying a vanilla slice for a particular reason. Not a fan. Other people in my group had similar thoughts on their food choices, despite "gold medal" being emblazoned on many options... I seriously doubt that! I've visited many, many bakeries all over SA and Victoria, and in my experience this is well down the bottom of my list of worst bakery food. And for the price, probably the biggest rip-off of those. You can't charge premium prices AND cut costs: it will leave more than one bad taste in customers' mouths.
Really friendly staff that were easy to chat to. We were near closing so nothing available from the coffee machine and a few of us had to wait for some pies to be reheated but well worth the wait. I really enjoyed my vegetable pastie, it was quite filling and really hits the spot after you finish a trail nearby. The dessert was quite sweet so happy I went with apple crumble instead of the purportedly much sweeter cheesecake. PLUS free tomato sauce packets! Amazing! There is seating outside if you are unable to dine in and ample paid parking at the back ($2/hour, from memory). EDIT for the two year old review: Still a fantastic place to get food from if you are vegetarian or gluten free. Very busy all the time. They have industrially compostable coffee cups and compostable coffee lids which are very environmentally friendly. Unfortunately they do not have any vegan options so best to go down to Proserpina if you have vegan friends.
First time trying "Pies In The Sky" so I got the Beef Guinness, vanilla slice and lemon tart. The Guinness crust and was golden and crunchy, the beef was tender, but the sauce filling was a bit dry and not hot enough (in temperature). The pies were well priced and a good size. They also offer tomato sauce on every table, so it's complimentary if you dine in. I ordered a soy latte which did the job but next time I'll order it strong. The vanilla slice was just what I needed to wash it all down. Customer service was quick and attentive at FOH. There was a small wait on the coffee but this was at Sunday lunchtime, so waiting was warranted. Disappointed to read the negative reviews about lack of table service? The cafe offers simple food offerings, so it makes sense to line up at the front counter to order, particularly on weekends when they are slammed. Just be patient and wait in line like everyone else!
Went there for lunch yesterday. For a place that specialises in pies I can't say they do them well. We waited over 45 minutes for pies and chips and all served flat cokes while we were waiting. We finally got our food and we were immediately disappointed. The pies were visually not great, they were either, to dark or very pale and the chips were cold. The mashed potato also tasted like Deb dehydrated potato. Not great. When you have a small menu you think you would master those dishes, but they really haven't. Two of the servers were lovely which made up for the other two that had attitude. If this business is like this all of the time then the only reason they're surviving is due to its location. This could be a great place to eat but it isn't at the moment. I would honestly recommend eating elsewhere if you can.
1 hour wait with no updates and no apologies. Don't bother. Our child ate chicken nuggets from the nearby fish n chips shop and the pies still haven't arrived. We used to go here before with no issues. Pies were good before but overall quality has degraded. Saturday 2pm, its a hour already with no updates on the food orders. Follow up on your own seems to fall on deaf ears. The queue for the takeaway was also not moving. Its like we're held hostage to wait forever for the orders to come. Avoid qr code payment so you can still opt out and try the other places nearby to ear. Pies are decent but NOT WORTH the 1 hour++ wait. We were told 2pm is a "peak hour". Their words, not mine. Moving forward please manage customer expectations if you can't meet demand. This way, we don't waste each other's time.
Horrible, rude staff that are disorganized and unable to serve 3 pies in less than 45 mins on Saturday. The lady with the nose piercing could take some customer service lessons. Management could maybe learn how to streamline the seating/ordering process (ie wait to get a table, then order back at the entrance, then wait for 45 mins for food). Note, they will get angry with you if you try to order before having a table. Spent 1.5 hours there (45 mins waiting for food) and saw at least 3 occasions where customers were treated horribly by staff (Daniel was the only staff member who behaved professionally after we asked after 30 mins why food was taking this long). Not coming here again, no matter how good the pies are (they were nothing special, btw).
A really great spot. Last we went, we had family over, and it was a great atmosphere, the food was nice, beautiful decor, and all in all a place I'd highly recommend. Ok, so, maybe the waitresses and waiters could've been a little more friendly, but then why should that put you off when you are really there for the food! A seriously under-rated shop, everyone's going on about how everything's burnt, too hot/cold, and stuff, and too many people are in the line, then afterwards say that it's actually a public holiday... Honestly, if it's a holiday, the staff are trying to get all thoe many people their food when the staff could be at home, on the couch, legs up, music on, reading a book. To me, though, it was GREAT!!! Absolutely recommend it!
A popular restaurant in Olinda (Dandenong ranges tourist area) famous for its award winning pies. Parking can be an issue and there are paid parking ($3/hour) at the rear. Restaurant is busy but clean. The deco inside is cosy and keeps its original setting. Order on the phone via QR code although it didn't work on my OPPO phone. Greeting and service were short and sweet. We ordered two signature pies ( beef mince & beef mince and mushroom) and one chicken nuggets and chips. One with peas, mash and gravy and one by itself. Pies are tasty but wouldn't add sides next time. Went there an hour or so after open, and there are a few items unavailable already. Hopefully will get back to its full swing soon.
There’s so much great cafes and restaurants around this area but today was my first time visiting Pie In The Sky. There are quite a number of seats available indoor and outdoor but they can get quite busy during peak hours. Anyway, we ordered a latte, beef rendang pie and apple strudel. Coffee was mediocre but the food was awesome! Beef rendang pie has three chilli icon and please do not take this lightly as they’re VERY spicy. I would say I can take spice pretty well but this pie got me all tested up but I couldn’t stop eating because it’s so good! Apple strudel was warm and paired so well with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. I would definitely be back for the rest of their pies!
A traditional looking cafe selling and specialising in pies (what else?). We tried a variety of their western style pies and avoided the Asian influenced varieties. I would recommend their Aussie pies (with a touch of tomato sauce), burgundy and Guinness. The sausage roll was also good. The service took longer than expected which was a bit surprising since we simply just ordered pies - I assume they came off the chiller into the oven. Busy ambience with many tourists and one suspects that getting seats could be an issue during peak hours, but they have a fair amount of tables and it could be well worth the effort to give it a try. Families and friends would like this place.
Unfortunately my first experience of the Australian national dish is a negative one! This place was understaffed and chaotic. The waitresses trying to organise everyone for the lunchtime rush we're doing great but there is clearly a failure from upper management. With that being said we did hear one waitress being rude to some foreign tourists. I understand you're stressed but that's no excuse to be rude. We had to scramble to get an outside table, there was confusion about ordering, our pies took almost an hour to arrive and I would love to say it was worth the wait but they were very average. Don't bother getting the BroCauli Cheese. Very little flavour. Shame.
Nice casual restaurant close to Dandenong mountains serving flavourful Australian pies. I had the minced beef and mushroom pie. The pastry dough was soft and flaky and the filling was really delicious. The restaurant offers many savoury and sweet pies for dine in or take out. Service is a little slow, but overall it was a satisfying experience. Worth a visit if you’re ever in the area.

Decent pies. Could be significantly better. Plain Aussie is alright. Bacon and Onion is better. Sausage roll isn't bad. We had a good time there after a nice walk around the Mt Dandenong. One interesting observation was that they have some meat pies that they do not sell for take away, which is weird. So, our choice set was only 2/3 of the whole menu. Also, I am a big meat pie lover and had some assessment of the taste with my friend. Both of us found the taste sub-optimal for the Plain Aussie, which didn't have enough herbs or spices. I also think that the dough used to make the pies was quite oily, probably the fat level should be reduced.
Pre covid I often came here with my family and enjoyed the pies but disappointed to say they are not what they used to be. We ordered 3 pies : cheese, chicken & mushroom, cheese bacon onion. They were pretty bland in flavour only the chicken pie you could really taste all ingredients inside. They came out of the pie-Warmer and we’re just ridiculously too hot on the hands and mouth. We Waited 5 minutes and they were still extremely hot inside. Unfortunately do not think I would return again. Also it was only open for take away and toilets not open to customers
I've visited Pie in The Sky a few times over the last 12 years or so, and always appreciated what they're trying to do. These days the food is very average though - the pies are quite plain and dry, and really nothing special compared to other Melbourne bakeries. My best decision on my last visit was actually a chocolate milkshake, which was very nice. I found the service to still be very good, apart from a slight mix-up with our order, and it was all very kid-friendly. Even after 2pm, it was very busy on a summer weekday for both dining in and takeaway.
After years of coming here and trying different bakeries, I’ve come to realise that Pie in the Sky pies are fairly average. I’ve had my fair share of spinach pastries, and despite being award winning, their spinach pie was not my cup of tea - it’s filled with spinach and rice and barely any cheese. Also, the service and cleanliness was lacking but passable. However, it is in a good location, fairly priced and spacious inside. In my opinion, for better and more satisfying gourmet pies (but very very long lines), try Proserpina Bakery down the road.
A Nightmare Experience: The Worst Customer Service Our recent visit to Pie in the Sky was a complete disaster. The customer service was shockingly terrible, leaving me appalled and disgusted. After our party of 7 were waiting in line and being seated by two different waitresses, we were abruptly kicked out of our table because the manager prioritized another group of customers. The lack of respect, professionalism, and basic courtesy was appalling. I strongly advise against dining at this restaurant unless you enjoy being mistreated and ignored.
The awards and accolades for this place must be incredibly old, because this place serves terrible pies. The beef was tough and dry, there wasn’t much filling in the pie so it was mostly pastry (which was underdone), and the sauce/gravy was underdeveloped, watery, and had an odd sour flavour. Pies coming out were either white and underdone or burnt. The coffee was weak as well. We waited 35 minutes and paid $19 for a pie with a side of (3 ice cream scoops) mash potato and peas, and it was incredibly underwhelming.
First of all. They charge you $2 extra per pie to eat indoors. Fine, charge away. But I wasn’t expecting to pay this and then be subject to a 40 minute wait for 2 pies. When the drink orders came, they got it mixed up plus bought some wrong drinks. Finally, the pie was bland and mediocre at best, I’ve had better frozen pies from the supermarket. Utter let down of a dining experience.

Spinach and Fetta was delicious! Tandoori chicken pies good too. Great flavour balance, crispy pastry and not salty at all. Busy weekend so chose take away. Grabbed a vanilla slice for the road which was one of the best I’ve had for a while. Ambience was nice with native birds on the balcony outside. Was a short wait but the staff didn’t rush and provided good service.

I had a pie with chips and my wife had scones with jam... we would be lucky to have eaten 1/4 of the food and left in disgust. Pie was luke warm and had soggy uncooked bacon, chips were either too dry to swallow or only half cooked. Jam was ok as was the cream ... but the scones were really bad. Never going back there (though the coffee wasn't too bad).

Service was attentive and very good. Got here at around 3 and the place was still super buzzing. Pies are good, the best bit for me is strangely not the filling but the outter crust/ pastry. The food in general (and this is only my own opinion because I really like savoury food) is not salty and on the blander healthy side. Chocolate milkshake was very good. Definitely a good stopover before or after visiting the Botanic Garden. Please do expect queues for eating in or takeout.
The pies were amazing. The curry pies have a smooth texture and the meat is very well cooked. However, I ordered a smoothie and I received a cold pressed juice (It was called a Pink Me Up). We also had a ginger beer, which was very sweet.

Excellent customer service! I ordered a cheese pie and a vanilla chai latte which tasted amazing. Today was a public holiday so it was extremely busy but staff kept their cool! If that was me I'd be dying. I would recommend Pie in the Sky. Hot tourist tip, costs extra for table service so if you want to save $$$ order take out from the counter. Plus the waiters where lovely to my younger brother who requested the rest of his hot chocolate in a takeaway cup. 5/5 stars.
Waited over an hour overall only to be given below average food. By the time we got it we were so hungry we didn’t have time to enjoy our meal. Chips and pie definitely not fresh out the oven Kitchen seemed to misplace one dish when making our order - really not worth the wait and don’t see how any of the pies have awards perhaps in the old days they were better. Do not recommend coming here unless you want to waste your money and time ♀️
Located on the hill side of the road, the carpark access at the back does provide a level entry to this eatery in Olinda! They serve various types of pies and cakes. Open Wed- Sunday! For hikers, this joint is gateway to many lovely hikes!!! - less than 2 km from Dandenong Ranges Botanical Gardens and RJ Arboretum on one side, and a good hike to the Skyhigh in Mt Dandenong via Dandenong Tourist Track. It is also. Lovely hike to Sassafras ….
One of the best pies I have had in years. The wait time to buy a takeaway coffee and precooked pie was 25+ minutes. If you want takeaway coffee purchase it elsewhere, the staff were too under the pump with dine-in customers and the wait for my coffee to come out was going to be alot longer (no-one stationed on coffee machine). Only got my coffee when I did because I could not wait anymore and asked for a refund. Staff were friendly
Went on Saturday for lunch, a lot of people but managed to get a table. Ordered the food and no long wait for serving. Ordered the Pie floaters, was disappointed on the peas and ham soup, lack of flavours. However, the tandoori chicken and spinach pie is nice, but didn't really tasted much spinach. Mashed potatoes are smooth and yum, the gravy on top is good. We also ordered the Cronuts and waffles. Love the Cronuts.
Hopeless place.. waited half an hour in the cold waiting for pies. Mine was half burnt when it arrived. Dirty glasses left on tables.. To tip it all, you now have to pay for the parking behind the pie shop.. Definitely the place has gone down badly over the years. Avoid if possible!!!

45mins wait for food. Average pie with very dry mash. According to kids, chicken salt on their chips was best part of meal. Staff seem very busy but not really looking at the tables so you have to wave them over. Tables sticky and I had to wipe clean. Cramped. First and last time.

On the way to Yarra Valley and Dandenong Ranges. It is located in The small town Olinda, little but nice place. The price is cheap, special pie with different taste. I like number 2 with chips. We made the order before coming so when out group of 40 people arrived, they served very quickly, named with dishes of each. Good service and quality. This is good choice for anyone when you visit Dandenong Ranges.
We tried the beef and mushroom, broccoli and cauliflower as well as the pumpkin pie! The flavours of the vegetarian pies tasted better than the beef & mushroom, but even then it was nothing too special. The meat pie was super bland, definitely needed more salt, and was hard to eat without the tomato sauce. The overall experience was very average, tastes like store bought pies that you microwave yourself
Hmm, overrated. A big range of pies and plenty of signs saying how great they are but I wasn't impressed. I chose the beef and kidney pie. No kidney, some beef. Gelatinous gravy - but the carrot was tasty. Pastry was just ok. My partner's chicken and mushroom pie was quite tasty but nothing more. At least the salad was fresh and generous and chips were hot. The place has a "bus tours" feel, IMO!
Ordered on the app. It was for a late lunch around 3pm so not busy. Waited 20 mins for the drinks to arrive and then waited and waited for the food which was one serve of scones, two pasties and a bowl of chips. Waited almost 50 mins for the 2 pasties and chips to be brought out and then they asked if we wanted the scones now? Um...yes please!! Scones were quite nice but pasties were a bit dry.
You do not tell a customer to pick up an order at the rear window and claim to have already served them after leaving them waiting there for 30 minutes because you put the order in the wrong location. I was never informed of this. I ordered via the hungry hungry website (scanned QR code at restaurant) and was told to wait at the rear service window via sms. Food is fine but that’s appalling.
Pie in the Sky, Olinda, boasts many award winning tasty pies, silver and gold medals apparently. Unfortunately our experience was a waste of time. Bland and dry meats, crusty cheese and stodgy pastry. There's a surcharge to eat at the table, but you're still expected to order and pay at the counter, not exactly table service. Give it a skip move on to the many cafés down the road.
Had the beef rendang, spicy but not as hot as they say, chips were nice. A bit pricey mind. Would definitely recommend a visit if your up and around the Dandenong ranges. Last thing, if your in a car that's a bit low, watch as you drive up to the rear of car park, coming off road to the drive, left side of 'Pie in the Sky'. Just take it easy or you'll catch your front valence..
The pies here taste good, worthy of the Gold metal it got. Since Mt Dendenong is a cool nice place to have picnic, e.g. Dandenong Ranges botanic Garden . It make economic sense to buy take away pies here and have nice picnic at the beautiful Garden .Take away price for pies is much cheaper than din in price. This is also to avoid the long queue for seats on weekends n holidays
I have posted before that they had "Nice pies... good range" But when I went back in a few weeks later...my pie was served with few shreads of salads. It's like an afterthought... Look at the quantity of the salads! That's disappointingly. They should have make a greater effort or not serve the salads at all... For that reason I need to cut back my score by one star.
Great variety of pies to choose from as well as a few options on how they're served. I usually choose peas and mash to go with my pie. Certainly not the best pies I've ever tasted but definitely worth the drive for the variety. There are a few interesting shops nearby so it's a good way to waste an afternoon browsing through the shops with the a belly full of pie.
I had a very good time eating here. The waiter Will was really efficient and he had no problem serving food on time. The cheese pie was delicious. I went here with my family and we couldn't be happier! My "mom" even insisted that I take this photo with Will and his other friend. Everyone in my table likes his service. They encourage me to come again next time!
Expensive and slow Ordered a pie and chips midday week in an empty restaurant and waited 40minutes for our order not to mention $30 for three pies. Pies underwhelming flavour wise and way too hot as if they’d been microwaved.

I purchased beef and guinness and gluten free chicken and mushroom pies to heat up at home. It was money well spent. They were VERY tasty. The pastry was light, with some crispness on top, with generous fillings inside. The young man who served me was friendly and cheerful, and only too happy to help with my selection.

Called here 2 days in a row. Coffee excellent, no surprise, vanilla slice on visit 1 perfect….on second visit I had just cycled up The Wall so needed sustenance so went for an award winning Aussie pie which was delicious and hit the hunger spot before my ride back down the mountain. There heating was off but that was a minor point….great spot.
One of the best places to try pies in Australia. Decent size pies for a very decent price. Their desserts are pretty good too. Love their Tandoori Chicken pie . The place is always busy, sometimes hard to get a seat or the wait is quiet longer. The staff here are nice and helpful. Love getting the pies when we go for a drive to Olinda.
Can get busy during busy. Pies are tasty as was the vanilla slice. Costs extra to eat in. The one problem was that they didn't get the food order delivered in the correct order as the Vanilla slice arrive much earlier than the pie which was a little weird. Good ingredients used and there was chunks of bacon in my pie which was nice.
No service here! girl at the machine just looked at us no greeting when we approached asking for a takeaway coffee got told to wait downstairs in the takeaway even tho there was no staff lmao and the place wasn’t even busy either. We left and walked across the road instead to only mine cafe to much better service and better coffee
Pie in the sky is a friendly restaurant all the way in Olinda with amazing food. Took my parents and partner up there for a trip and I was satisfied with their food and service. If you are looking for a great place to take your family on a trip and need a place to eat, I highly recommend pie in the sky and coming up to Olinda.
Whilst I understand everyone is struggling from staff shortages, the change to takeaway only is very disappointing. Gone is the pie floater and it now feels like a pit-stop. Everything in paper and overcooked pie. I’ve been bringing friends and family visiting from overseas for years. Such a disappointment.
Based on Google reviews, we went in with high hopes. We bought a few pies. After we paid for it, we found out that the pies were ice-cold. When we asked the staff, they said they won’t heat them up. If you fancy cold pies, then I guess it’s a good place. Otherwise, there are better cafes around the place.
Pies have always been delicious in the past, this weekend I had a plain pie and there was no flavours whatsoever. Perhaps no seasoning in the meat, it was bland. I couldn't finish and left half the pie behind. Not sure if I was unlucky or if the quality has changed.

Always a great place to eat. Staff are usually very good, although our waitress might have been having a bad day yesterday, wasn't looking too happy. Food is always good, pea & ham soup and pie & chips always go down nicely. Plenty of shops nearby to brouse and the rhododendron gardens are nearby.
The second rate coffee came ten minutes before the arrival of the scones. The scones were undercooked and made palatable only by the jam and cream. I don’t mind paying for good quality food but in this case I wasted $54, we won’t be returning.

Pies were average. Crust was soft and not crispy. Mince was good and gravy like but nothing special. The vanilla slice just tasted like cream and the crust was soft. Overall okay experience. Wouldn't say it's the best pies , good if you wanna grab takeaway and just get something on the go.
Great value meals up at Olinda Village. They have a vast range of meat and vegetarian pies on offer. Many of which have received prizes from the Royal Melbourne Show. The quality and variety is excellent and pricing is quite reasonable. We're coming back too!
5/5 for the pies. They are divine. My favourite is the beef curry. Have been coming here for over 15 years. The dine-in situation is a little nightmarish though and it does take a long time to be served at the counter when they are dealing with certain unruly groups of tourists.
A tourist trap? Ordered pies with a side of chips. Took over 40 minutes and the place was basically empty. The pies were $9 each. The pies were good but not as hype as they make them sound. Bit of a cash grab. Reading from other reviews, the waiting time is cooked.
Waited an incredibly long time to be served for a takeaway; most of the options were no longer available, and the pies were very disappointing. Pie in the Sky used to be a destination; we travelled for an hour to enjoy a treat there. We won’t be returning.
I’ll start by saying the staff were lovely and I want to see quaint businesses like this succeed. The pies aren’t amazing and I feel they are overpriced, don’t get me wrong they are tasty but so are standard pies at your local bakery. I hope they improve.
Disorganised and rude staff. Very limited take away choice (they refuse to sell pies for takeaway) and menu is not accurate.

Not impressed and not sure why it’s so popular. Service lousy, staff not helpful, food barely passable. Won’t be back here.

We are the first table after opening. Still waited for nearly 1 hour. There are so many staff running around though. Food is very average. They should thank for the special location they have, otherwise would have been out of service long time ago.
Unfortunately had an extremely long wait time for the food to arrive and when it did, nothing was tasty and the texture of the pastry wasn’t anything special. Not trying to exaggerate, but pies and rolls from a servo have more flavour.
We had a few different pies. Our favourite was the Chicken Korma, we even bought an extra to take home with us. The cherry pie was a little bit sour for our taste but still very nice. We look forward to returning and trying a few more.
When my dish came I was a bit disappointed as you can see from the picture, such a boring presentation ( one pie with 3 mash potatoes). Pie was average, pretty standard taste as I had in other pie restaurants. But this costed me $18!!
I went there expecting pie floater but not available. I ate in didn’t have an issue with ordering and paying at counter, food was delivered promptly on China plate with silver cutlery. The beef and Guinness pie I had was quite good.
We had a really lovely lunch, the pies are delicious I had the steak and mushroom, my partner had the steak and pepper (I think mine was nicer) we also had a sausage roll which was very tasty same with the chips and gravy
Perfect place in a quaint country town. Bit disappointed today as I ordered coffee extra hot and it was Luke warm. Service was a little slow but I think many people visit the area because of its position in the mountains
Terrible on all fronts. Waited FORTY minutes for only 2 pies with chips. Only appeared after asking. Both pies awful and far from cheap. Even worse still coffee was terrible. Plenty better places in town to visit.
Sweet potat and pumpkin pie followed by apple danish with apricot glaze AND ice cream before noon Dog friendly balcony. Re-fuel post Silvan mtb trails

Sadly we went here on new year day and like most of the food outlets in the village they were closed. It was disappointing there were about 200 visitors looking for somewhere to eat lunch.

Pies are good here, not sure if the salad was a piss take on my behalf - or a genuine attempt at garnishing the plate. Aside from that and the long wait for the meal to come out - I’d give them another chance!
Staff seemed to take forever to acknowledge us when we came in, even though they were nearly empty. Pies under seasoned, lacking any flavour and in a meal cost $20. Definitely nothing special to see here.
A nice drive to this place on a chilled morning for some pies yesterday. Staff is great, nice and cosy ambiance. Liked the pies and loved the coffee, make sure to order the scones too. Will visit again.
Had a lovely lunch here. Best milkshake I have had in years. Unless you have a very large appetite , the nachos are delicious and easily serve 2! The pie variety's is huge, vegetarians catered for too.
Terrible all around - A 20 minute wait for a table, a 1 hour wait for food, way overpriced, and when the food arrived it was very average. At $9 a pie, your pie should be amazing; not dry and bland.
Ha ha! With an urge for a pie after almost everywhere had closed, I headed there. It was better than I expected. No wonder if's so popular. I had mushroom pie and pumpkin. Both were exceptional!
Such a good dining place in the area. Famous with its pies, this become the tourist destination. Come early to avoid the crowd and long line. However, there is a specific line for take away.
Pies were lukewarm. The pastry was average and the different pies were dry and only half filled. We come from family of local bakers and was very dissappointing abd could not recommend.
Came here today (Boxing Day). Waited an hour for some very average pies. There’s no air conditioning and poor ventilation so we were waiting in sweltering heat too. Not worth it at all
Pies were amazing, had to wait a bit but we were told upfront it would be awhile. Poor staff had to deal with some angry people. I don't get why people think yelling at teeagers is ok.
Good pie of a lot of different varieties. We got 2 chicken(tandoori and korma) and 2 beef pies(rendang and pepper steak). In my opinion the chicken pies were much better than beef.
Great selection of pies and pasties, have hot food ie chips ,onion rings ,coffee tea hot chocolate etc.Dine inside or out ,no table service ,just order and it's brought out to you.
Friendly staff good food and they have a bike rack which was nice. $14.50 for a pastie and a vanilla slice is pretty great too

We made a point to drive to this Cafe, as we had some excellent expectations. However, the food took 45 minutes to arrive and was for the most part bland and the staff unhelpful.
Came here during Easter and the place started to get busy as soon as it opened. I must say the pie was ok but ot could be better. The filling was a bit too dry for my liking.
Love the tasty award-winning pies, scones and cakes. The restaurant is a stone's throw from nearby Rhododendron Gardens.

Nothing special. I ordered a minced meat and mushroom pie with peas and chips, which costs $20. The taste of the pie is exactly same to the ones you find at the supermarket.
