I've been going to Pig & Whistle Olinda regularly for about 20 years and today was the first time I've ever been disappointed going there. I booked a table for two only hours before attending which in the past would have been near impossible for a Sunday dinner. When we arrived I was a little shocked that the car park was near empty, then when walking inside the atmosphere was much the same with at best one table being occupied. The staff were lovely, though I didn't recognise any of them which was certainly unusual. We were given the choice of table which presumably meant there weren't many other bookings for dinner. The waitress took our drinks order and gave us the menus to review and we immediately noticed that the menus had been updated as they changed the name of the "Piggy Parma" to a "traditional parma". I didn't think much of it at the time and just ordered one as per usual. When our meals came out I was quite shocked that they've changed how they do their parmas. So much so, that I googled their menu to compare the meal descriptions between the Piggy Parma and traditional Parma. It used to be a chicken fillet but now it's a run-of-the-mill chicken snitzel just like every other pub. I was genuinely disappointed with my parma regularly looking at each piece to check whether it was cooked properly as it was chewy and cold. We sat there presuming the business has changed ownership and much to my partners surprise I told her I can't see myself ever wanting to come back again. It honestly breaks my heart to think I'll never go back as I have so many fond memories of Pig & Whistle. I sincerely hope others don't share my experience with this iconic pub. Today is a sad day.
Great Brittish Pub atmosphere ... BUT.... Really hard to ever get a table. Need to book in excess of 24hours to get a table. DO NOT reserve an outside table. There is NO HEATING outdoors. Thin blankets are on offer.... but your head will freeze. It would be great to light an open fire outside... this would have, maybe enticed me to stay. There were plenty of empty tables that were obviously reserved for incoming bookings. Even when we advised that we were happy to eat and run.... still no offer of the use of an indoor table. Enjoyed a great pint of Pommie Beer that was on-tap at the bar ... but left without eating... Will go back, but will ensure booking is made a week in advance. Wish I could add comment about food.... but no luck in eating this time. A Pint and a half-pint cost $21.00

The ribs were a disappointment. It came with mash & coleslaw but it was smothered in an extremely thin sauce that was overpoweringly sweet like black sugar water. The mash was tasty but I couldn’t finish it or even touch the coleslaw because half the bowl was filled halfway with the ‘black sugary sauce’ they had poured over it making the coleslaw inedible (see in pic) the onion rings were nice but random. The meat was falling off the bone which was good but I just couldn’t get past the sauce it absolutely ruined it all for me, which was a shame because if it hadn’t of had it it would have been decent. Was expecting the ribs to have been barbecued but they weren’t…seemed boiled or something. Everyone else's meals looked really good I’ll be back but I don’t recommend the ribs. The atmosphere and area is beautiful especially the garden bar area, wish we could have gotten a table there, we had to sit out the front in the cold, not their fault though.
We moved to the hills nearly 12 months ago and only just had the chance to visit the Pig and Whistle. Having moved back from living in London for many years, we were missing a decent proper pub with good beer and pub food. I treated hubby to a birthday dinner that certainly didn’t disappoint. We both had the Irish Parma. OMG they were massive and the curry sauce was to die for. Hubby said it’s the best Parma he’s ever had and believe me he’s eaten them all over Melbourne and beyond. Lovely too that we were able to bring our dog with us. Fabulous enclosed outdoor eating area where we got to meet and chat with other locals too. So happy we chose to go there, so sad we didn’t do it so sooner. Kudos to the chef, the staff and the owner, all of whom were fabulous. We’ll definitely be back and have recommended to friends. Well done guys. Cheers x

Came in over the weekend and had a lovely time! The venue is really cute and has a nice outdoor area. The staff were friendly and had very fast service. We had a few cocktails which were really nice and well made. I had the steak which was cooked perfectly, the mushroom gravy was very tasty with it. My partner had the roast pork, it was nice but the sauce was a tiny bit too sweet, was a little bit sad there wasn’t crackling, I think that would have made the dish. We had the sticky date and brownie for dessert, they were both really nice and veryyyy big portions, we took half of each home to have later on. Was a really nice evening and I’d definitely recommend popping down

Had our anniversary lunch here today. Thankfully we booked as it’s still as popular as I remember it from pre covid days. Service on arrival was great, seated without a problem and orders taken without any stress. The range of drinks was good, I do enjoy some English beers and mulled wine. Food was fantastic, we ordered fish & chips that came with mushy peas and Lamb Wellington. Both were delicious. Dessert was apple crumble and sticky date. Servings were generous and prepared well. Staff were friendly. Makes for a great lunch. Would definitely recommend this place

What an amazing Tavern. The bar crew and the other gentleman who greeted us when we first arrived had great customer service skills. The bar crew were very knowledgeable and even when absolutely slammed made sure to acknowledge anyone who went to the bar and let them know they would be with us shortly. The food, well there wasn’t one complaint on the table – everyone really enjoyed their meal. The steak, perfectly cooked and I think one of the best seasoned steaks I have ever had! We 100% will be back!

The meal was decent, yet our experience was marred by the seating situation. Initially, one staff member agreed to seat us at a table with cushioned seats, but then another staff member overheard and claimed it was reserved. Strangely, during the 1:30 hours we spent there, the table remained unoccupied, and the restaurant was only half full. Although the table was meant for 8 people and we were a party of four, we would have understood if they wanted to keep it available for a larger group. However, what truly disappointed us was the apparent dishonesty in this situation.

An outstanding lunch at the wonderful P&W. Nick greeted us warmly and along with Tim and the team they looked after us like we were family. I devoured a delicious Bangers and Mash while my wife enjoyed a yummy southern parma. I washed it down with a quality pint of Old Speckled Hen. Highly recommend this lovely pub in Mt Dandenong for great food, good drinks and wonderful welcoming hospitality.

Love love love the food and the atmosphere here. We ordered the famouse chicken parmigiana, pommy platter, bangers and mash potato. For dessert we opted for the sticky date pudding Boy that sticky date pudding is soooo good, the cake is moist and fresh and they put lots of sauce in it and with that beautiful creamy ice cream as well. Can't wait to get back and next time I'm not sharing the sticky date pudding with anyone

Caught up with a couple of mates here and it delivered in spades. Food is great. The chicken parma is huge and delicious. The scotch fillet and southern fried chicken burger looked great and my mates both enjoyed. The waitress was awesome and super helpful. Thanks for the beer taste test :) Atmosphere is homey English tavern style which works perfectly for the are and cold night. Highly recommend.

Booked in here for lunch, and glad we did the place was full to the brim. Even though it was a brisk day outside was full also. We were seated and orders taken boys one of the many special beers on tap. And the girls had a muld wine which was very nice. We had some breads to start and mains were pie, pork, beef burger and chicken burger. All were of generous proportions and enjoyed by all. Staff were extremely busy but kept up the service and were freindly also. Worth the drive for a day out. Cheers PWT

Being a vegetarian, who is incredibly fussy, going out can prove difficult. But they had some delicious vegetarian options and on their specials board was a halloumi burger- AMAZING!!
A friend talked up these snitties, to say they exceeded my expectations as a foodie is an understatement. I had the Irish and it was an incredibly generous serve. The Chicken was perfectly cooked with a light curry sauce finished with delicious bacon. I tried the Southern and the Regular and both were exceptionally delicious. The service was friendly and accomodating. The decor is as warm and comforting as the food. The pub is located in a glorious area. I rate this place as a foodie destination 5 stars.

The Pig and Whistle is just like an English Tavern with a great atmosphere and also very cosy with an open fire. The staff were very friendly and helpful, the food was served quickly and tables were cleared and cleaned quickly. I had the Southern styled chicken parma, and it was delicious, while my wife had pork belly with mash and she loved it. Will be definitely coming back one day.

Brimming with charm. Lovingly outfitted. Great beers, that I don't believe I've seen on tap elsewhere. The chips bowl was enormous and very good, and paying a little extra to have rosemary with it is well worth it. Not many vegan/vegetarian options, but most people probably come here for meat, so while a tad disappointing for me personally, I get it. Staff were friendly, and all patrons, whether regulars or tourists, were happy to be there. Will definitely be back for a few pots and chips.
Chose this place after a hike in the ranges. Really nice people hosting and running the place. There was 11 of us and they were able to accommodate for us immediately. The food was really good and fast to get served. We also had a birthday and they were able to bring out one of their desserts with a candle. Really loved the service and food. I guess the only downside was the cost but understand where they are coming from. Would definitely visit again when in the area for lunch/dinner.
Excellent Place to visit beyond Sassafras and Olinda junctions. The food is great, the place is busy and the servers are friendly. We had their one and only Stake choice with different sauces (Black pepper / Mushrooms). The meat was a little over cooked than the medium rare we ordered this time, however the potatoes were a bit more tastier than the last time! Be sure you book before you come as you probably won't get a seat without a booking. Oh yes, the car park can be fully packed.
The Salami parmi and the pork belly were delicious and the portions are generous. The views are nice. It took us ten minutes waiting for the waitress even when the restaurant wasn’t so busy. After bringing the dishes, she forgot the cutlery and did no come back. We got them for the table next to ours. The toilet was not clean at all. That’s a deal breaker for me, unfortunately. Service should be much better. Nevertheless, staff was absolutely friendly and food was very good.
Years ago I once asked a local where the best place to get dinner would be nearby. We were strongly advised to get the pork belly at Pig & Whistle. We have never stopped going back. I still love the pork belly but the Parma, the pies, the fish and chips are all solid. This cute English pub is the real deal and the food is always excellent. It’s also extremely family friendly and there is a nice playground for kids in the summer months. Definitely recommend the pork belly!

Great place that genuinely feels like a countryside UK pub. Had the pork belly which was great but the beef Sunday roast was only so so. Meat was a bit tough and it was probably a bit expensive for what it was. Would still come back as it had great vibes! I imagine it would be lovely in both winter and summer.

You can’t go wrong with a place that has heads on the wall. Well worth as a destination drive. Good English feeling about the place and some locally made and imported flat beers to complement it. The meals were all pretty good pub quality and plenty of it. Staff were friendly and the whole area has a great vibe about it. Put it on the list for the Sunday drive
I will never get sick of this place. The food here is amazing, and I've only been here during cold weather, but the food makes you feel so warm and cozy. Looks to be a popular place to go for parmas and tavern food. We tried the following: The parmas were well balanced. The cheese and sauce was just enough and the ends were quite crisp. I did enjoy the sticky date pudding. A generous serve - the sauce is just the right amount to cover the pudding and the pudding itself arrive hot with a spongy texture.
Went here on a busy Sunday. Atmosphere was great, staff were great and food was great. Large portion sizes and tasty. Pork belly with spinach and mash $29 Southern Parma with chips and salad $28 Jug of Lemon Lime Bitters $12. The only negative was there was no crispy skin/crackles on the pork belly. Not sure if I missed out or it doesn't come at all.
Given the good rating, I was looking forward to going to the pig and whistle tavern. I had the pork belly and it was overcooked, dry and tasteless. Sorry, but the worst pub meal I've had in years. I didnt return it because I dont like meat food waste and knew would go in the bin. The staff were friendly. Definitely won't be returning

Absolutely amazing place to eat in Olinda, we will be making a reservation for our next visit for sure! Food and beer: Hobgoblin is sensational, Roast pork is super tender, and everything was de-li-cious. Highly recommended.
Yummy food and great service. We turned up quite late for our booking, right on closing time. However the staff were still very friendly and allowed us to order and enjoy a great meal here. I really like the ambience too, very warm and cozy. Thank you so much for a great night out!

Not a large menu and it would have been nice to have a few more traditional English meals but the food was delicious and reasonably priced. I would really recommend trying the mulled wine, it's amazing. I would definitely go there again.

absolutely love!. Such a beautiful little pub up in the mountains with 5 star food and service. And the staff are just amazing.
Amazing food, beautiful venue. Staff were excellent and it’s a very family friendly vibe. We were able to snag a table right in front of the outdoor playground, so our toddlers could run around safely and play in the sand and on the slides whilst we ate. Def will be back. Lots of other families and kids around.
Dropped by after passing through the area and being curious. Found the place had great character and friendly staff. Great range of local and imported beers. Had steak and Guinness pie and was very impressed. Have been back since as a result and will now be a regular. The place is a little gem up in the hills

Food was just about average even factoring in that it was pub-grub. The parma was OK, the pork belly was over done but the lemon meringue was excellent! The sticky date pudding lacked character and was just a sugar overload. The ambience was good and had a tavern-y feel.

Great family lunch sitting on the deck. Great range of beers on tap, meals are massive and not overpriced and there's a small kids playground that kept my 4yr old occupied. Friendly and efficient service, will definitely pop back when up in the Ranges again.

Great food experience and ambience. I love my parmas and the southern style chicken Parma is delish. Also we tried the pommy platter here and value for money. Must try the southern style chicken burger with fries and a pot of ale

The food matches the service: low quality and uninspired. The chips were passable but that’s about it. Definitely one of the most disappointing Parmas I’ve had, which was caked with a revolting tomatoe based sauce.
