Porter Loring North funeral home was our “Amazing Grace” for our mother’s funeral. I had never planned a funeral before (and I’m 60), Barrett, our Funeral Director was professional, polite, empathetic, and patient with my 3 sisters, father and I as we decided on details for our beloved mother. Our funeral was delayed 4 weeks due to Fort Sam National Cemetery availability. Barrett ALWAYS responded in person to my emails, questions regarding dropping off mother’s casket jewelry, picking up her death certificate, and info. about flowers and reserving memorial table and easels for our photo gallery. EVERY trip I made to Porter Loring prior to our Celebration of Life date…EVERY single staff person that greeted me and assisted me was gentle and compassionate to my loss. The day before our moms service, I dropped off plants and memorial table items and told Barrett I would drive in early the next morning to arrange. (I live over 45 minutes away) I had staging pictures in my tub so that the morning of the service I would not have to “think” about what goes where.. I came in that morning and Barrett had seen my pictures and staged the table according to my pictures. It looked BEAUTIFUL. I was the first family member to arrive and Barrett gently escorted me to my mother’s casket for viewing. The music, power point presentation…all operated by Barrett was right on que. The staff greeters were soooo supportive and caring. The hearse driver was AMAZING. Porter Loring even told us what to expect at our chosen cemetery AND they were there by us the ENTIRE time explaining and gently guiding us through it all. Thank you Barrett and Porter Loring North for being our Guiding Angels during such a sad time for us. You truly blessed us with every aspect of one of our saddest moments of our lives. Mom looked amazing and I know she was so proud and smiling down on us all for such a beautiful Celebration of Life and grave site burial. We all understand now why mom and dad chose Porter Loring North as “their” funeral home for such a delicate meaningful memory and beautiful “earth goodbye” to one of the most important persons in our lives. Bless you Porter Loring North. Sandy Dresser Cooper daughter #3

We just had my Dad's service there yesterday and things did not go well.... When the family first arrived to set up they wouldn't let us set up without my 85 year old Mom being there first. They said it was there Policy, which they did not tell use at all until we were all there trying to get in.... Then when we finally were allowed in nothing we were promised were their except 2 flags we wanted. No tables, no easels and most notably instead of giving us the 80 chairs we asked for there were 67. The Staff acted as if they new nothing about what are requests were, not sure how that happens when they specifically ask what it is you need.... So needless to say instead of giving us a pleasant experience it was filled with anger, disappointment and frustration..All from a company that is supposed to help you threw a difficult time not make it harder for the family and friends.....SADNESS Update: Thank you Shannon for talking with me and easing our frustrations and helping future Families have a easier time.... All the Best

This place was holding my grandmother. My son and I drove six hours to come view the body and they would not allow us to see her. Told us that another family member had denied our viewing because he was an executor of the will. But after I looked into it we discovered that his rights over her ended when she died. I called a few other funeral homes and they all agreed and told us the same thing, saying that this place had no right to deny us viewing of the body. In fact they told us that he needed his sister being my mother signature in order for them to carry out any type of funeral plan because all the children of the deceased had to agree. So they don’t follow the law , they are immoral when it comes to your loved one. They wasted 12 hrs of our time and 400 dollars. In short do not user this place! We are filing a complaint with the texas funeral services commission in Austin .

Although the reason for coming to Porter Loring is for a somber reason, they could not have been more caring or helpful. It was the first time I had to make arrangements for a funeral. Tim, the director who helped us, was easy to talk to and work with and made the process and decisions as easy as possible. He did not rush my family and me and was very patient and knowledgeable with all the questions I had. The only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 was because the email communication was a little confusing with very similar email addresses (an 'n' vs. an 'm') and the replies were not always on the same conversation line. It delayed the obituary publishing a little, but as soon as we figured out what the problem was, they published it right away. In the end, they were overall easy to work with, responsive, and kind.

When my husband passed away, they were able to pick him up from the hospital that night even though it was around midnight. They took such good care of him and he looked like he was just sleeping. The staff was so caring to my family and friends. I didn't have to worry about anything because I knew that they would take care of it. They also provided material for our mental health and followed up to ensure that we were doing well even after we were done. If you are going through a difficult time and looking for a Mortuary that CARES, please don't hesitate to contact Porter Loring (we were at Gold Canyon Road/1604). All of their staff care and will be there for you and your loved one. Thank you Barrett and everyone.

I wanted to thank the entire Porter Loring team for the beautiful job you did for my father's service. My father was buried with Full Military Honors at Fort Sam and Porter Loring did a wonderful job on everything from the initial planning to the actual service at Fort Sam. Our Funeral Director, Crystal Grazulis, was the most attentive and compassionate person to work with during this tough time. Planning a funeral is hard and without Crystal I don't know how we would have worked out the entire service and Military Honors with the Caisson. My entire family would like to thank the Porter Loring family for taking great care of us and our father.

After a year, I am finally able to write a review about this amazing place. From the beginning to the end, Porter Loring's staff went above and beyond for my family and me. They took care of everything that I did not have the strength to do, and I'm forever thankful for this company and the staff. When I went to pick up my mother's ashes, Whitney was very comforting, kind, and compassionate. Also, Barrett went out of his way to carry everything to my car that was displayed during my mother's services. I could go on and on about how they excelled with their services. I highly recommend them during the time of a lost loved one.

I was very impressed with Porter Loring North. They took care of details we had not thought of and were so understanding and we did not feel pressured at all. Barret was very good with allowing us to take our time and would give us privacy when we needed it. They answered all our questions and when it came time for the funeral because of Covid, it had to be delayed, they kept us updated with all the information we needed. It was a relief to be able to say goodbye to my father and not worry about all the details because we knew Porter Loring handled everything so lovingly.

I want to thank Porter Loring for doing a fantastic job when my father passed away. Funeral Director Clayton was extremely responsive and accommodating by allowing my family to view my father in a private bedroom setting. My mom and all of us were all impressed by how peaceful and dad looked as he was just sleeping, which made saying goodbye less traumatic, especially for the children. Further more, Mr. Clayton accomplished all of this with amazing professionalism, empathy, and pricing. Thank you from all of us.

I found the staff at Porter Loring to be very caring every step of the way. They were very helpful in planning our services, and anticipated all our questions. This is a difficult time for the family and I appreciated the organized and sensitive way they helped us in this process. They continued to be caring after the funeral calling to see how I was doing and giving me helpful tips in dealing with grief. They exceeded my expectations and I would recommend them to any family to care for their loved one.

Porter Loring has years of experience which makes dealing with this difficult time much easier. We could have used a less expensive provider, but my experiences with Porter Loring through my work made Porter Loring my only choice. At a time of loss and grief, one needs open and honest discussions of options and costs, no pressure, and a calm, yet sympathetic, professional explaining the process, options and the various costs. Thank you, Porter Loring!

  • Senor Peppy

Better less expensive alternatives available elsewhere. I had to call several agencies myself because Porter Loring stated they were waiting on approval before cremation. The main agency they were waiting on told me there was no need for their approval @#$%^&*!! Porter Loring charges a $500 fee plus a daily rate for holding the body after 14 days. YOU will work hard avoid these unnecessary charges. Other funeral homes don't charge this fee.

Very rude and very unsympathetic! They should have people who can treat the families with at least some kind of dignity. They were rushing everyone out, and when it came down getting an excuse from work they were so rude that they say I needed to come in the morning after. When I did they still didn't have it ready and continued to give me a hard time. Would not recommend this place for your love ones. Thank you and have a bless day.

The staff was extremely kind during my mother's funeral. Things did seem to be a bit chaotic at times and communication did seem a little off. But chalk that up to the high volume of funerals happening because of COVID and trying to keep everyone on the same page. I felt everyone gave us the respect and patience we asked for given the circumstances. Thanks for all the support during our grieving process.

  • Kally Moyer

We were very pleased with services provided. Everything was laid out easily for us and everyone we worked with did an excellent job of making arrangements. All were compassionate, caring, professional and efficient. Doug Goad went over and above to plan and care for us through the entire process. They followed up many times after the service/funeral was done as well. We would highly recommend them!

  • Jennifer Tower

They are so professional. Answered all our questions. Helped with everything we needed. My mother was illl prior to passing and she looked amazing. Multiple callbacks to check how my family was doing during planning and after my mother's services had been completed. This was not an easy time for my family and they made it easier. Very satisfied Thank you very much Jennifer Tower

Our family suffered the loss of 2 loved ones, since one was an officer porter loring was highly recommended. But the staff needs to be retrained on compassion care. They were rude and pushy and acted as if we were bothering them. Very elegant facility but the service of the staff and directors was a disappointing let down. Please remember your in this for compassion care.

  • Sharon Dresser

All of the staff were so wonderful! Always sensitive, caring and friendly! They accommodated us beyond measure and honored our precious Mom and my family is such loving ways! No wonder Mom and Dad insisted on your care for their final needs! It takes special people to do this special work WELL !!! God Bless You All ! Sharon Dresser (daughter #2), and The Dresser Family

I engaged the services of Porter Loring Mortuary North to handle the sudden passing of my Mom. They were extraordinarily sensitive and efficient at a very difficult time. I chose this location only for convenience. My family has used the downtown location 3 previous times and had the same service. I never felt pressured and my privacy was held with high regard.

  • Tamara Donahoe

Porter Loring is absolutely outstanding when you need them most. Everyone is extremely patient and kind, even with difficult situations. Many thanks to Cindy and Doug for helping our family during two different events and for going over and above several times over. It doesn't get any better than this, they are hands down the best providers in San Antonio.

  • Eileen Weigum

At a very difficult time Porter Loring made everything seamless. The exceptional services began the moment we walked in the door with the preplanning and still continues a month after the service. An incredible group of people to work with who treated us as family. We are sincerely thankful for their kindness, thoughtfulness and professionalism.

  • Samantha Rodriguez

I can not begin to express the gratitude we feel for the staff at Porter Loring. They are the most compassionate and caring people really catering to our family’s needs through such a difficult time. Their professionalism and experience went above all expectations and we couldn’t have asked for a better team to care for our father.

  • Lynette Miserez

Porter Loring handled the funeral arrangements for my son, who died unexpectedly in August. Everyone at Porter Loring was compassionate, caring, and professional. I want to especially commend Amy Goad, who was our personal funeral director. Amy anticipated our needs and guided us through the process during a stressful and sad time.

  • Desiree Roquemore

Porter Loring and staff were so wonderful to my family when my father passed away. Always professional, kind, attentive and offered condolences every chance they got. I am so impressed as my father would have been as well. He knew you were the best. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts. The Hardwick Family. ❤️

It was a hard time dealing with our lose however Porter Loring (North) guided us in making the arrangements and creating a memorable goodbye for my beloved brother. We were blessed to have had such knowledgeable and caring professionals taking their time and having patience in the preparations. Thank you.

  • James Beswick

My father was in ICU and a week later I received a mailing about funeral planning. I can't believe this private information is sold to these vultures and that this company would intrude on my privacy at this time. It's tasteless, tacky, insensitive and ruthless. I would never use this company.

  • Jessica Taylor

Monica Gonzalez, our funeral director, was 100% professional and extremely helpful. My mother's funeral was perfect and I received numerous compliments about the service. I highly recommend Porter Loring Mortuary North.

  • Phil Weynand

No personal experience as a customer yet, been to many first class services thou! Because of pathetic service from Mission after the death of my father-in-law, I’ll be meeting with Porter Loring for my pre-planning.

  • Donna Otto

Porter Loring was a very professional, compassionate place that helped guide us through the burial of our father. They were friendly, able to answer all of our questions and lead us through the process.

  • Gerald Chambers

Its a.loan company and mortuary making interest on every payment you. Make. 10year policy can cost you double at the end of you day. No interest for you. Just extra Cost to you and your love ones.
