"My precious mother went to be with the Lord on October 30, 2021, and we chose Porter Loring to help with her funeral arrangements"
Not very good, initially. Our initial funeral director was horrible. We could never get in touch with her. She was always out of the office. I had to be on them and ask them if my mothers arrangements were finished. I've been to Porter Loring 5 times before, and in this experience you would have thought that this was the first time Porter Loring was handling funeral arrangements. My family and I had to be on them to get the web obituary posted as well as arrangements with the church and cemetery. Nothing was done until I called them on a Friday and my mother services were going to be on the upcoming Wednesday. As a result my sister and I had a meeting to ensure that they (Porter Loring) was taking care of our mother, since NO ONE had communicated with us at all. We met with the General Manager, Daniel Gonzalez and he created the web obituary as we were there, demonstrating that multiple Porter Loring Representatives failed to perform their duties. Had I not initiated this... my mothers arrangements would not have been finalized until Monday, with her services starting that Wednesday. My advice to any potential customers... make sure you are on them to give you status updates daily. Now I will say... the services were top notch that Wednesday and Thursday, and that's why I am giving 3 stars. We were at our most difficult time making her arrangements and Portering Loring added to that with how they dropped the ball with her arrangements and we don't want anyone else to have to experience this when setting up their loved ones funeral arrangements.
From my experience, the Porter Loring group has largely been the leader for such services in San Antonio for decades. I have had some experiences with other mortuary businesses in San Antonio and, by comparison, Porter Loring has repeatedly been the clear leader. Perhaps I should have chosen 5 stars, but I cannot honestly say that I loved any funeral home I have ever been to. These services are rarely pleasant, somewhat opposite the anticipation and excitement of a new baby. Even close trusted family members cannot make pleasant the loss of someone close, loved or even just one of the people one has worked with and liked. Sometimes, even small issues that don’t meet individual expectations can seem huge and generate anger. Perhaps some of the anger expressed in other reviews represents spillover from other emotions. I have no personal relationships with the people in the business and probably would not have bothered to write this review. However, while just looking up the address via Google Maps, I saw the two highly negative reviews and decided to offer an alternative view from many years of experience and several comparisons. I only looked up the address because I will need to go to another after-the-fact viewing of a long time friend, now gone (though in this case, probably more of a blessing given the situation they had been in the last few years).
Porter Loring made all the funeral arrangements for my husband. My family and I were very pleased with all of their services. All of the funeral directors and other personnel were very courteous, kind and compassionate every single time that were met with them. The young funeral director Clayton Klesel that met with us to make the arrangements was very compassionate as he walk us through all the steps in the process of making the arrangements. He was very professional, knowledgeable and compassionate. Never were we pressured in any way. We had many positive comments by family members and friends about how beautiful the services were. Several days after the funeral Clayton Klesel called me to check how I was doing. He offered any help I might have with questions. He later asked the Bereavement Counselor to contact me about the counseling services Porter Loring offers like Grief and the Holidays and other grief support groups that meet throughout the community. My family and I highly recommend Porter Loring to families that have to make funeral arrangements for loved ones. Not only do they offer professional services but go the second mile to help the grieving family members with grief counseling and support groups without a fee. E. Yolanda Flores
My mom did not get her flowers. This act of love and remmberance was NOT offered my mom. The flowers were either at the placed with someone else’s loved one or in their offices. I find it hard to believe my mom did not get her flowers... relatives and friends were wondering where their flowers were. Missing flower arrangements at the celebration service and viewing and burial... Pricilla offered to send the flowers to my house. But those flowers were for my mom not me. Also we did not get our limo.. family was told to get in their cars for the procession. However, I reminded them of the limo they fixed it but my family had already got in their cars as instructed by Pricilla’s substitute. Just me and my cousin got in the limo. My heart is broken because of my mom’s loss. And to know her funeral experience was handled with mishaps makes my heart hurt even more. I will never forget how they treated my mom and my family. Now I get her flowers??? That she never got?! Dumb! Are they calling everyone that sent flowers to return them??? Two stars are because they did use a Cadillac hearse to transport my mom.
My precious mother went to be with the Lord on October 30, 2021, and we chose Porter Loring to help with her funeral arrangements. Crystal Grazulis was the most compassionate and patient person with me and my sisters during this most difficult time in our lives. She guided us through the whole process and was even there for us at the funeral -- not to mention the occasional phone call to check up on us. From everyone beginning with the ladies that came to our home to receive our mother, to Crystal, to Kelsey, to Nina, Daniel, and the driver of the hearse, we could not have felt more respected and cared for. My family will forever be thankful and grateful for your support, care, and professionalism. It's such a blessing that we chose Porter Loring on McCullough.
Shannon Sturms one of the directors was very professional and compassionate along with the other staff and made the whole process simple. Can’t thank them enough for all they did to ease our minds knowing that they were there to handle anything that came up or if we had questions about the arrangements. Not only did they take care of my moms funeral they also took care of my dad’s with the same compassion and professionalism. If you’re looking for a place for loved ones, I highly recommend this place. Thanks again Shannon for your help, we really appreciate it.
I am heart broken. My dearest friend passed away and during the visitation I was absolutely distraught. However one of the attendants, Adrian if I remember correctly, was kind enough to help me through my grief with his kindness and gentle words. I will never forget him or the kindness the company gave me and my family during the funeral. They hire good people, and in my opinion that man in particular deserves a raise. I hope it will be a long time before I need this service again, but at least when I did need it good men where there to help me through
Last month, my mother's funeral services were handled by Porter Loring Mortuaries (McCollugh location). Dad and I were pleased by their complete professionalism and compassion. I specifically want to thank Kathy DLS and Clayton K for all their help. They considered every detail to make this event stressfree and successful. I also had other family members and friends complement the services done by Porter Loring. I wanted the best for my mom and Porter Loring Mortuaries did that for us. Thank you!
Porter Loring was helpful, respectful and sensitive throughout the process of memorializing and interment for my mother. They handled all the details when we were grieving. The resulting viewing and services were not a worry for the survivors and we could focus on all the friends and family who shared their memories and condolences. Thank you Emily and all your staff for making this sad period one in which we could grieve as well as rejoice in the company of those who loved our mother and friend.
My mother prepaid for her funeral services in 1993. When she died in 2017, Porter Loring fully honored every one of her original requests with kindness, complete professionalism and not a single added charge. I will be forever grateful for their physical preparation for the viewing, which was amazing and beautiful. Everything that these folks did exceeded my expectations tenfold and I will never forget their gracious, thoughtful behavior at a time when it was so appreciated.
I was treated horrible with no respect whatsoever one of the most hardest things a grieving mother could go through I asked why I was being treated so horrible and I was told by one of your employees by the name of Kathy that I was my ex's pass there's no excuse to treat a mother like that I was part of my son's life always to the day he died Not only was I disrespected but my family and friends also y'all don't even deserve one star
Everyone was patient, caring, and showed empathy for our loss. The sudden loss in our family was both shocking and saddening, we had no idea really what to do but the process was made so simple and easy. All we had to do was mourn our loss and everything else was taken care of. Our funeral director Macy was extremely helpful. I would also like to thank everyone else that helped our funeral go as smoothly as possible.
It seems rare these days to find a company that really delivers on the brand image they convey. Porter Loring is so genuine and honest in their promise to care, and you can see how committed their team and leadership is to doing everything possible to provide comfort and aid to not only their clients - but to the community as a whole. They go above and beyond, and I truly value the services they provide.
I was very appreciative of the staff and the operating procedures of Porter Loring. They arrived in the middle of the night to pick up my father from our home and their professionalism started. During such a difficult time they were empathetic and compassionate during the entire process. Thank you very much for helping our family during this transition in our lives.
We are so greatfull to the staff of Porter Loring for the excellent care they took of our daughter. Every one there was kind and compassionate as they ensured that her funeral was dignified and peaceful. The tenderness and care went beyond a business; we felt as if they were caring for a cherished member of their own family.
Roshell is a terrible funeral director. She is rude and condescending. My mother has just passed and I called the other day to get some information. Thanks to Roshell’s lack of compassion we took our business elsewhere. If this is how everyone gets treated I’m surprised your still in business.
My father was in ICU and a week later I received a mailing about funeral planning. I can't believe this private information is sold to these vultures and that this company would intrude on my privacy at this time. It's tasteless, tacky, insensitive and ruthless. I would never use this company.
Have dealt with Porter Loring on more than one occasion and they have always been professional and caring. They go above and beyond to assist with whatever is needed, and do so with true care and concern. I would highly recommend Porter Loring, wouldn’t consider using anyone else!
I recently attended a service for a young girl who passed unexpectedly and was simply amazed by the caring and compassionate staff at Porter Loring. True professionalism and the utmost sensitivity was exhibited in such a trying and stressful time for the family. Job well done!
I felt like everyone we came in contact with was so considerate! We didn’t feel pressured into any extras which we appreciated very much! The extras were offered, but not pushed! Thank you Emily for making such a difficult time less stressful, you went above and beyond!!
I can't tell you all enough with how grateful I am to have been able t work with Priscilla and the other director after my father's passing. They help make this difficult time of my life bearable with their attentiveness and comfort. I can not recommend them enough.
Terrible place. They're understaffed and over working their employees. Some of them look like they want to cry at any moment. I can't trust a place with my loved ones if they treat their employees so horrendously. Choose a better place, this place isn't worth it.
Porter Loring staff were professional, empathetic, and sympathetic during a stressful time. They worked with us across multiple communication mediums to help us process our loved one's passing. They made a difficult situation just a bit better.
I play organ/piano for many funerals. Our Chairman of Ushers said there is no comparison to Porter Loring for their professional manner. I took his advice when my mom died. They were FANTASTIC. Don't go anywhere else~
Front desk lady has a lack of empathy.. we were only trying to honor our loved one who is no longer with us. There’s a way to finesse conversations and then there’s just being mean. She was just mean.
We have always had good experiences with friends and families who have used Porter Loring. I have had good experiences when using the internet sight for various reasons. I would use it for my family!
I cannot thank this place enough for their compassion, professionalism, and accommodations for a fallen brother in blue. The staff is caring and does everything with such respect. Thank you!!!
San Antonio’s Best. Amy was extremely friendly and was able to solve a request that meant the most to the family within less than 10 minutes on a late Saturday afternoon. Thank you!
I wouldn't go anywhere else. The staff is amazing. I have made my final arrangements and know that my family will be in the care of business that treats everyone like family.
Porter Loring took care of both my Father and a year later my Mother. They were kind to Me and very respectful to both my parents.
One of the most well respected funeral homes in the area. They treat you with the utmost dignity and professionalism.
Thank you Porter Loring Mortuaries for the compassion, love and support in lifes most difficult times.
Compassionate, organized, caring people and comfortable environment make a difficult time easier.
HOT in this place. Not very comforting for family and friends, in a hot and humid chapel.
