I love the Prahran library! I'm a voracious reader and this place holds a special place in my heart. Wide range of books, zines, and other resources in many languages - and they seem to be all highly curated and handpicked with love by the well-read staff. It's really easy to borrow books via the website (and you can get books from the other Stonnington libraries too, which means the entire catalogue is huge), the loan allowance is generous, the staff are lovely, and the space itself is very welcoming. Family-friendly, corners for kids and tweens, corners for loners and the elderly, everything is available. Last year I reached my goal of finishing 100 books in 12 months, and this year I'm on track to finish 200 books - much of this is because the Prahran library has such a good collection and I live in the neighborhood. I would't be able to afford the books otherwise; and there are so many great books I wouldn't think of choosing - but I did, because they were recommended by the library. Good job, guys!

I was working next to it so I went there when possible, quite place as it should be and everything is in place and staff is really nice. There are PCs that you can also book and on the quite area as well as sockets there is a ethernet port if your laptop has one letting you connect in an easier and faster way. They've got other languages books such as Chinese and Greek but they miss on Italians. You can rent dvds although it's hard to find great movies. Self checkouts are so handy as you don't have to bother the staff, clean toilets and a nice environment.

Unfriendly staff and security guard. My fault for not knowing the changes after lock-down. I've been a rate payer of Stonnington for nearly 20 years. Either you have a vaccination certificate or you are not welcome. The person will not offer any suggestion will simply stated the rule and walked away. I dont think I will ever use the library as dont access to a printer. Even the PM has said the unvaccinated should be allowed in pubs and cafes, I'm vaccinated but cannot use the library. Being disabled, it was hard to get there.

Centrally located in a nice old building. Staff nice but the services are difficult. One printer, which is difficult to use. I've never been able to log on to the internet here. Toilets, some tables at the back. I don't really feel comfortable with most of the characters that wander into this place. There are no cosy nooks to read. It feels a bit like there's some deliberately unpleasant design, I didn't find a comfortable position anywhere. It's ok, it's local so I use it but there are much nicer libraries around.

Probably one of the most outdated libraries I’ve been to. No where to really sit and study. Noise echos from children playing through the entire building (even the quiet area) and it’s just a very dull and low atmospheric place in general. There isn’t a great selection of books and essentially no textbooks/academic literature. Would benefit more from going to the local cafes then here.

The location of this library is prime ! Centre of the Cato Square at South Yarra. Some reason the size of this space matters, they managed to cram children books into the limited aisle available, however it just doesnt give that library vibes. Good thing this is only a temporary arrangement until the original library fully upgraded

So Prahran Library has moved?! I remember it most via the mid 90's where it used to be a small library via their old Prahran Town Hall?! No it's at the back of where Dan Murphy's (formerly World 4 Kids/Coles Fosseys used to be!) where the old car park is now! I will investigate this place again.

A clean and well maintained place with good facilities. Lots of computers to use and free WiFi. Clean toilets and drinking fountains are available. It’s in a great location within a magnificent building. Lots of shopping nearby so easy to just pop to the library to get a few things done.

Beautiful little library! I love the instant feeling of calm and joy one gets when stepping into a library. Quiet and peaceful. Wifi. Lots of books. Basically heaven :)

  • Anna-Kay Taylor Christmas

quiet, good location, excellent place to stop for a bit if you have small kids (they have a play area, lots of books and 2 computers with numerous educational games)

I'm quite disappointed with the current place; I must say the previous building was much more appealing. The limited space in this new location is a major drawback

Pros: beautiful building, toilets, comfy "quiet space" to get work done. Cons: not a big library, could not connect to the Internet

This is a great place to visit to get yourself a great book or DVD. It' s 100% modern - love the self-checkouts!

The Library of the snazzy new Prahran Square, surrounded by sound tubes and outdoor seating.

I really hated this place..... I waste 1 hour trying to connect to internet.....

This library also doubles as a daycare facility. Noisy kids and not controlled.

  • Thomas Misson

Lots of noise from uncontrolled kids from the quiet area but otherwise fine.
