My wife and I brought our car to Richard's about 7 months ago because it was having minor problems. After over $1,200 of work it was running worse than ever. They replaced the timing belt but not the serpentine belt, so two days later the serpentine belt cracked, and then the belt tensioner broke, and then a few days after that the car started overheating and it was back to the shop. They took advantage of our lack of knowledge about cars and when we tried to ask questions to better understand the repairs they were rude and told us to "just buy a better car if we didn't like it." The last repair they did for us was replacing the alternator in April. Which leads us to today, November 7th. That alternator died today. When I called Richard's to ask about a possible warranty they told me that "their computers don't store that type of information" and hung up. I know other people have had good experiences here but ours was a month-long nightmare that made my wife and I burn through all of our triple A tows and most of our money! I understand that cars can have problems but if you want to be treated with respect and honesty I highly recommend you avoid Richard's like the plague. The shop we now go to is called Bay Area Automotive and it's incredible. Even though I live two blocks from Richards I'll never be back, unless I really hate a car and want it to die a slow, painful death.

I love these guys. They are consistent and honestly the last of a dying breed in terms of honest, affordable, and just all-around decent people/mechanics. A few months back, I stopped by to have a tail light replaced. They quickly change the bulb and didn’t charge me a dime . Shortly after, the battery and starter on my car went out and they replaced my starter in one day at an affordable price. A few months later I made the mistake of taking my car to another mechanic for a tail light bulb that needed replacing. They charged me $10 and the lightbulb never worked. They told me I needed to have my fuse replaced and what should have been one Quiktrip turned into three as I was given the roundabout about why they could fix it . So I took it back to Richard’s’s for a second opinion and they found that the other Mechanic had put my light in completely wrong. With a quick adjustment my light and full panel has been working. And again they were planning on charging me a dime. I made sure to tip them. This is truly a gem in Tampa. Also shameless plug, they are looking for a new technician so if anyone is interested this is an amazing place to work with good people that will help take care of you.

The check engine light came on in my van, Pep Boys diagnosed it as the battery so we got a new one. A week later the light was back, so back to Pep Boys. Now they say it's the alternator, so we say fix it. However, they say our van is old with high mileage and we should really do another 100k tune up and they'll cut us a deal on the labor charge. The van is an '07 with 180k, it had never given us any problems before this but we, figured better safe than sorry. We were sorry, we came to pick it up and Pep Boys had practically doubled the price of parts saying they had to special order and get them from the Kia dealer across town because of the year and make of my Sedona. I barely got down the street when I smelled burning oil. When I got home I popped the hood, oil was all over everything from where Pep Boys had left the oil cap off. When they fixed it, they said they found a leak in my head gasket. After spending over $1k, I realized they were ripping me off. The tow truck driver recommended Richard's. Thank God, Richard and his guys really do give Quality Auto Service, they fixed my van for a fourth of the price. He is also so honest that when there was a code that required the

Quick points about Rich Auto Service Will not call you about your car, to tell you what can and can not be done.( by his team) Quick to take your money ( quote me 3 different prices) First on Phone, different one in person and by the time he fix my car it was another price. ( shacking my head) If his team can't fix your car, but beware he will fix something close to what you talked about earlier but without consulting you first. ( greedy for the money) I will say that I agree with the previous person that commented that he will tell you to buy a new car, cause he can't fix yours. He scribble the prices on paper so you can't read them, even when you tell him to rewrite so you can understand ( you still won't) "Hello, it's 2015 they did create computer for a reason" Will take advantage of you, when you don't know about cars (damn shame) My experience was a learning one, always do your own research on anyone's company (told him someone said that he did a good job on their car), yes their car, but not mine. My car sounds different now, since his team touched it. Over all I would not take my service to this man business ever again "hope he enjoyed the money he stole from me"

BEWARE!!! Do not go here!!!! Have been going here for a year and half for oil changes to find out they have never changed it! Not only am I ticked off something very costly could of happened if I haven't caught it but I've paid $76 every time I've gotten it done. I was warned by a friend that she had the same issue right before I picked my car up, so It was a little to late for me to take it somewhere else. when I picked my vehicle up Richard cashed me out and I asked him are you certain the oil change was done and oil filter was changed (that cost more than normal because he said it was a rare filter) and I explained to him that my friend had to get $1,200 in repairs done on her car due to damages Of richards not changing her oil and filter in over 2 years. Richard was quick to get an attitude with me and said that the other shop was lying to my friend. I also had asked him if I could have my old filter and he said by now it was probably buried in the trash. I am extremely disappointed in this shop and the fact I have referred others here for its convenience.

I've been to Richard's three times now. The prices were very reasonable, the work done was of perfect quality, my car was finished in a few hours, and the customer service was excellent. Never once did he try to sell me anything I didn't ask for, the price quoted was exactly the price I paid, and the car was returned clean. He is so extremely knowledgeable that he knew exact specifications over the phone based on my car make and model, and used those to give exact quotes, including tax! He was even kind enough to let me pick up my car late! Most recently, I took my car in to fix the A/C that hasn't worked in years, despite taking it multiple times to other mechanics. I thought it was unfixable, but now it works perfectly! Really, I cannot say enough good things about this place. It is a dream come true. I have had my A/C wiring and fan fixed, brakes changed, a full service oil & lube change, and a wheel alignment. I know I will be returning in the future for everything else I need.

I paid Frank Blankenship III to do a headgasket on my car and five weeks after taking it apart he came to finish it. He showed up late then wanted to go to Walmart to get food and drinks, who does that? There's store on every corner! After waisting and hour talking with his friend he disappeared with the guy for an hour lunch. At the end of the day he started rushing to finish, and wanting to leave. I asked him to stay because it was almost done and he said " Oh you just have to plug in some wires you can do that." He left and the car wouldn't start after the wires were plugged in, and oil was pouring out of the timing chain cover. We started looking and all the bolts on it were either loose or missing. Tightened them all, tried to start the car, it started for a second and died. He left the bolts to the cam sprockets loose so the car jumped time and destroyed the motor. Don't waist your time or money on this guy.

I have been going to Richard's for over ten years and have never received the treatment that I received today. I went into Richards shop to get a routine oil change and my services was turned down by Richard. I was told that there would be a two hour wait, and that there are three cars ahead of me. I stated that I would stay until my turn and was told from Richard that I couldn't stay. I will never go to this shop again. If you want good Quality service go to Auto Mall on Nebraska and Yukon. I was seen by friendly workers, my oil change was done with no lines no waiting, and I was not over charged. Richard made thousands of dollars off of me and this is the thanks I get a turn down...... You will miss my money Sir. And if you're reading this and say she's mad yes I am because I've paid plenty of this mans Bill's as a faithful customer. But I Richard's Quality Service ISN'T QUALITY AT ALLL.....

I received recall work and an oil change from Stadium Toyota last week. They gave me a list of things that I needed to attend to in the near future. One of these included brakes, and they told me my front brakes were in the red zone (2 mm) and needed to be replaced. The back ones were in the yellow zone (5 mm), and should be replaced. They quoted me $202 for the brake job. I took my car to Richard's this morning to have the brakes replaced. I get a call, and they tell me the brake pads are at 50% and do not need to be replaced. They did not charge me for putting my car up on the lift and looking at my brakes. Though I didn't receive service at this time, you can be sure I will be taking my car back there in the future. Even if I had needed the brakes, they would have saved me half compared to the dealer. Plus they are honest, where apparently the dealer was not.

I took the time to read the reviews this morning for Richard's only because I could not believe he did not have a 5 star rating. After reading the reviews I have this to say. I have been taking my vehicles to Richards for years. None of my auto's are new, as a matter of fact, my autos are all 1999's . All of my auto's are in excellent condition, (only due to the fact that I have taken them to Richards) for any and all repairs and maintenance. I have never been treated badly or rudely, as a matter of fact any and all questions I have ever had have been answered with being shown physically on my vehicle what was done or needed to be done, ( in detail). I would recommend Richard's to anyone that wants their auto fixed correctly. My suggestion would be get there early, they are very busy, I am sure that is because they are the best at what they do.

Richard's Automotive saved our day! The day before we were to go back to Nebraska from Tampa we awoke to a dead battery! Called AAA and they came out and jumped it but said it wasn't holding a charge and that he thought it was the alternator. We called a place but they were not going to get us into until the next day. (the day we planned on leaving). I quickly called Richard's and he said they could have a new alternator in by 3:00 the same day! Yeah! We had it towed there and in a hour or so got a call saying they couldn't find anything wrong with the alternator just the battery. They installed a new one and had someone come to our Air B&B and give me a ride to the shop to pick up our vehicle! We can't thank Richard's enough for their honesty and great customer service!

Richard is about the only fair and honest mechanic in town. I just had them work on air conditioning evaporator coil. The price was unbeatable, and the mechanics was very knowledgeable. He had to pretty much disassemble the the dash and steering column to get to the problem, then reassemble like a giant puzzle after the problem was fixed. The next day I realized I had an issue with a side panel not fitting correctly. I gave a call, then Richard told me to come in when I had an opportunity. When I got there, I was seen right away by the mechanic that worked on my car. He immediately apologized for not having it set correctly, and fixed the problem within five minutes. With any problem that you may have, big or small, I would strongly suggest giving Richard's a shot.

Very satisfied with the service and quality of my repair. My truck is a 2016 RAM 2500 and overheated, breaking down nearby. I brought it to Richard’s Quality Automotive out of convenience and was hoping to get it repaired at a fair price. I couldn’t be more pleased. I called the dealership I purchased the truck from and the price was 3 times the price I was quoted at Richard’s. Not only did they repair it, they were able to do some other troubleshooting of another issue and took care of it as well. They explained the repair and showed me the old damaged parts. Tom even stayed open late so I could pick up my truck after my wife got off work. Grateful for their honesty, quality work and a fair price. I will be bringing them all my family’s vehicles from here on out.

Cannot recommend Richard's enough. I came here to get some brake work done on my Jeep after reading several positive reviews. Turns out, I had severe rust issues that previous mechanics neglected to tell me about. Kevin brought me under the vehicle and walked me through the damage, explaining the severity and the risks of driving my vehicle in this state. They recommended not getting the brakes done and encouraged me to find a new vehicle. If I hadn't gone here, I could've gotten into serious trouble. After all this, they didn't even charge me. I look forward to bringing my new vehicle into Richard's. Honesty & integrity is clearly hard to find in a mechanic, but Richard's is doing everything right.

I have been a customer of Richards for 5 years. At no point was he or his staff dishonest of misrepresenting the costs of a repair. I have 4 older cars and I will never go anywhere other than Richards. Best prices in Tampa and an awesome, honest man. On a few occasions, once his staff has evaluated repairs needed he has told me not to worry about this or that and not to get the repair done if he deemed it unnecessary. Try and find a mechanic that is that honest. You won't, trust me. If I could give him and his staff 10 stars I would. Thank you Richard for always being honest and helping me and my family out when we need service on one of our cars. You guys are the best!

We've taken our daughter's SUV to Richard's for service on several occasions and have been pleased with the service each time. He always explains things well and will give you the pro's and con's of alternative treatment options, if available. That bespeaks honesty and integrity. Quite frankly, I don't trust chain shops or dealerships because they are under tremendous pressure from corporate to meet profit quotas, so they try to "find" stuff you don't need and are always trying to upsell you on items like tires. I always take my cars to indy's like Richard's; it has been my experience that your chances of getting a straight and honest transaction are better.

Richard is one if the most honest people you'll ever meet. This is the place you can send your wife, daughter, mother and not worry about them getting ripped off. Some places try to make extra money by selling you stuff you don't need, these guys know that by doing you right your repeat business and word of mouth will make them more in the long run. I had a buddy who told me a mechanic told him he needed thousands in front end repair, I asked Richard about it and his reply was "did he drive off a cliff". He brought the car to Richard's and only needed a CV joint. Great place, honest people, and they won't sit on your car for weeks either!

I had been going to Richard's Auto for over two years to get oil changes on my household's two vehicles - never had a problem till now. Richard's was to work on my 99 Camry's throttle and while checking and cleaning it the air in-take hose was broken. Not only did Richard's not inform me of the damage - when I discovered the problem and took it back they refused to take ownership of the problem and would not help me by correcting the broken part. Congrats Richard's you lost a customer for life over a mistake and a $30 part that your guys broke. Good job - keep it up, I'm sure in this economy running off customers is a good business model

Professional, abundantly competent, courteous, and UNBEATABLE price value! I interacted personally with three of their personnel and they were all extremely competent, courteous and professional. They quickly diagnosed my problem and gave me several options for resolving the issue. They went above and beyond by noticing my door panel was loose and fixed that, too, at no charge. In the end, they did more for my car at 1/4th of the quoted cost of any other repair shop. I live in Lakeland now but would DEFINITELY get up at 5 am just to get my car there 2 hours before they open ANYTIME.

I’ve used Richard’s for years and he always does good work at decent prices. But I was very disappointed when I went in last week and he was not wearing a mask, nor were any of his workers. This shows an insensitivity to the health of his customers. He also was violating the Hillsborough County mask ordinance that all businesses and their employees wear masks and that they urge their customers do the same. After I left I wished I had said something, but I guess I was in a hurry and didn’t want to stir up trouble. I’m not sure if I will use them again.

Richard is kind, honest and hard-working! He always fixes my car in a timely fashion, his rates are very reasonable and his crew has been with him for a long, that says a lot! I once brought my car to him with a broken A/C, was prepared to pay hundreds of dollars for the repair. Told Richard whatever cost just let me know. it turned out to be $135 belt he could have charged me hundreds of $$$$ and I would not have known the difference. It's hard to find an honest that stands behind his work. I don't know what I'll do if Richard ever retires!!!

Richard is a very honest mechanic! Out of all the mechanics he is the only one I trust! My recent experience I had to get my rear timing belt tensioner replaced on my 05 Nissan Altima which is really costly! Richard went into detail of everything. I came in at 8am to find out what’s wrong with my 23 year old Honda accord and within an hour they called me and quoted me for my repair, turns out I needed a whole new radiator. They fixed it on the same day and for an amazing price, which was nice because I’m a poor college student in tampa. I’ve been to a lot of other car shops and this has by far been the best experience I’ve had, no scams, no tricks, super nice and straight forward people. One of the most honest, friendly and welcoming people. My turn signal lights were not working. I checked the fuse and found it good so went to them. They fixed it and explained me how my car has 2 fuses in series for turn light. 2nd one combines with hazard lights. Very rarely I see mechanics explain these things. Further, they didn't charge for the service and even refused to take tip. I would highly recommend them for their honesty, friendly and great service.

A heavy word for Richard's: HONEST.. Nowadays you can't find honest mechanics. I love how they work, how they don't over charge and how they explain the car issues to you in a detail manner. Others try to scare you into "fixing" things they don't even need to be fixed, and tell you a price over the phone and when you get there, they change it. Us ladies don't need crook mechanics like that, we need mechanics like Richard's. They are WORTHIT.

Working with Tom was super easy. My normal mechanic happened to be out of commission and I got a recommendation to visit Tom at this shop. A quick call to describe my problem later and Tom and his team had my issue looked at, diagnosed, and advised within half a day. Great, honest advice on the value of repairs vs the overall cost of the car (an '08 Escape). Would recommend 8 out of 7 days of the week.

Excellent service!! Honest all around. I had a problem with my Honda Odyssey that I had been told was going to be hundreds of dollars. I went to see him because he was referred to me. Not only did his crew took the time to check it, they showed me what it was and it turns out it was only a couple of hundred dollar repair and not what I had been told from another shop. Before they were going to service my car I was explaining to him to just be careful when he puts it in reverse and he automatically was telling me Oh no he doesn't want to deal with it since he has to be careful and I just didn't understand what was so wrong with what I was trying to explain to him. These guys are by far the best fair priced most honest mechanics I’ve ever gone to in my life… I was quoted 50 percent more at tires plus and they were a week out…. Tom got me in the very next day and had my ac working better than it ever has the next day… they don’t shortcut their work and they do it correctly… even the mechanics were super friendly… definitely a “breathe of fresh air”

I have taken 2 of my vehicles to them. They are honest and reasonable. I took my truck last week week to get a new battery They replaced the battery and told me I needed a alternater so I took it to Richard's and all I needed was battery terminals. The battery was probably ok . Wish I would have taken it to Richard's first. Instead of $600.00 it was $100.00.

We have been going to Richard for 12 years. You can believe what he tells you. He knows cars.. Always has time to fit us in. Has helped with our kids cars as well as 4 of ours. We wouldn't use anyone else. Parking and getting into and out of his location is the only problem. Wish he were closer, but with this kind of service and experience we will never change.

Very kind and honest establishment. I hate taking my vehicle to the shop because due to fear of greedy service mechanics. My power windows stopped working, I took my car to the shop in the morning and they had it ready so quick. Even shopped around to get me the best price on the part I needed. Richards was highly recommended to me by multiple people in the neighborhood and I decided to go with them after fire stone told me I needed an $850 repair after already spending 450 on a replacement starter.
