Do not rent here unless you want to lose money. They are a Shady and Unethical business. Overcharged me for my rental. I paid $2030 through Expedia to rent a large SUV. When I went to pick up the vehicle they refused to honour the agreement and downgraded me to a cheaper rental, the contract for the vehicle stated the cost would be $1610, a difference of $420 total. I was charged the daily cost of the more expensive vehicle rental originally agreed to for a cost of $135/day instead of the actual vehicle they had rented me at the cost of $107/day as stated in the contract. When I asked them to correct it with a refund or credit for the difference, they told me to ask Expedia, which I did and Expedia told me the company refused to honour the agreement or offer a refund. When I received the Vehicle, it was absolutely filthy! The outside was coated in bugs and looked like it had barely been rinsed off since last usage. The inside was abhorrent, you could barely see out the front windshield with the fingerprints and grime. There was garbage in the doors and under the seats. There was even a disgusting dirty t-shirt wedged between the seats. It was absolutely abysmal. Unfortunately I needed a couple extra days on the vehicle rental. When I returned the vehicle and explained the situation with the overcharge, the person I was dealing with said it was not a problem and that he would just subtract the extra amount I paid for the original expensive rental from the lower cost one I was actually given. He then said there would be no charge as the difference would cover the extra days. When checked my credit card statement and I was overcharged an additional $760 for the extra days. Not only did they overcharge me but then took money off my credit card without my consent. Avoid this place at all costs, trying to save money will cost you far more in the long run.

AVOID - AVOID - AVOID I experienced the worst service ever. When I showed up at the shuttle stop at the airport, I called them for the shuttle, they said they were on the way. Routes is at 7min drive. The shuttle took 32min to show up. By that time we were about 20 persons waiting and the van was able to pick up like 8 persons or so, so the rest of the had to wait longer. Arrived at Routes, there was a dozen of persons waiting outside for their car to show up, because they had paid already but there was no car for them available. Their pick up time was 10am and it was like 12. Routes overbook the rentals... So, I stand in line, there is 6 persons in front of me. Note that there was 4 persons working at Routes that day. I took 1h30 to be finally serve at the counter... obviously, the sedan I rented isn't there, so they issue me a Durango (hard on gas). They don't give you the keys right away, because the truck wasn't pressure washed already. Guess what... I took another 55min to have the truck back in front washed (the outside) than the guy came to inspect it and gave me the keys finally. The whole process took 3HOURSSSS! Guess what the inside wasn't clean, the windshield was so discusting I had to stop at gas station to get some stuff to clean it (pictures). When I dropped the truck 4 days later, I complained about my experience and the only thing they were able to say it's : we can ofter you a 10% discount... I took it, but guess what, after review they gave me a 10% discount on only 75% of the invoice... A REAL JOKE THIS PLACE IS! EDIT: Routes like to blame covid, but their staff had no mask while walking through the line-up of people. They weren't cleaning the inside of the vehicle. Customer cooperation for 3 hours hahaha this one make me laugh

1- Their car rental place is 10 minutes away from the airport and they have their private shuttle. If you bring back your car before 8 am how you go to the airport? This is the first problem. You can miss your flight for that reason. 2- They should write a clear instruction on their door about leaving cars back. It is not that hard. One A4 paper and a pen. If you ask they say you can put your keys into the mail box and leave. Bruh, if you did not come yet, how would I know, from where can I take that instruction. 3- Taking and giving car back takes too much time. Excluding line wait time, if you are at the desk, it takes 20 minutes. Plus you need to wait like at least for an half hour for the line. Giving back the car again you need to wait for the people who rent their car. Too much time loss. 4- When taking my car, I made all official stuff and she said ''your car is still being cleaned. Can you please wait 15 minutes'', I said ''of course''. I waited like 50 minutes she apologized 4 times or more. The guys who came after me they all were getting their cars with no issue, however I was still waiting. This was not professional. 5- I was there at 8 am and gave my car back first. I asked for the shuttle and the girl said in 5 minutes he will come. That 5 minutes turned out 25 minutes. Basically, even though they were all nice people, this place is not professional. They taught me a lesson. Before renting a car via expedia or booking, I should read the reviews. Thank you for the lesson guys. Not to see you again. Muck!

Word of the wise, don't rent from Routes! I needed a rental while my car was at the dealership, I had booked for a 6 day rental). The price seemed reasonable, I will give it that. However when I went to pick it up I asked to purchase insurance through Routes, I mentioned that on expedia it quoted a price of $16.75 per day. I was then told that because I was adding it after the fact I would need to purchase it at their standard rate of $22 per day. They then asked for my personal vehicle insurance, I asked what for, since i was getting insurance through them. They could not give me an answer and simply pointed to the terms on the wall (which didn't mention anything about it) and they said I would not be able to rent without providing a copy of my insurance. After I sent a copy of my insurance they informed me there would be a $3000 deductible....isnt this what I'm paying for?? A few days later a got a call from my dealership saying my car was done early. I called Routes to see if I could return early and get a refund for the days i would no longer need the vehicle as well as the days of insurance that I would no longer need(4 days in total). I was told flat out no, that's not how it works. I could return the vehicle early but I would still be charged as if I had it for 6 days. Competing company's will offer a refund if you return the vehicle early and only charge for what you've used. Worst experience renting a car to date and will definitely never be using this company again, even if the rates seem reasonable.

Total nightmare!! We had a horrendous experience with this company and DO NOT recommend. When we got there, there were long lines with the same persons handling drop off and collection. We probably waited 30 mins until our turn. We booked through Orbitz and purchased the insurance as well only to be told that the insurance will not work due to the value of the vehicle and that we needed to buy the insurance they had and apply for a refund online (still did not get any feedback on this refund as yet). When asked for something official to give the online insurance provider, they did not give anything. We were not the only customers who dealt with this.. about 2-3 persons on the counter were dealing with this as well. After that was dealt with and we bought their insurance, we had to wait another 30 mins to get the car. Before leaving, we made sure to ask Gurijeet (the person we dealt with) if we needed to refill the gas when we dropped off and she said “No, just bring it in.” Drop-off of course has its issues as well. When we dropped it off, we dealt with another representative and he took a look at the car and said that they gas is not filled and either we fill it up or pay $150. We didn’t cater for the extra time needed so we had to rush to get the gas and return the car in time to make our flight. When we got back, we had to rejoin the line and thankfully the guy saw just took us earlier. All in all, it was a very stressful encounter. I do not recommend here at all. Find another place…not worth it at all!

Rented a Jeep wrangler for a business trip. My supervisor made the booking on Expedia with unlimited mileage upon arrival I was notified that locals (Alberta residence have a maximum of 1400km / week after which they pay 0.20/km. I’m not certain this was reflected by experience in the rental agreement. My supervisor was shocked due the fact we needed to go to Fort McMurray round trip this did not leave us much use during the week and had to rely on other colleges to get us around. They did adjust our mileage to 1800, but after using the truck for only 3/6 days we only had 86km remaining when returned. Insurance of the vehicle required either $1500 deposit or private insurance (which was not going to be used due to it being a business trip), and only covers 3k. Make sure to get glass insurance if renting the Jeep, we took a rock leaving Calgary from a car that put a crack across the right side of the windshield which was covered by the extra insurance. The overall cleanliness of the vehicle was slightly disappointing. There was old hotel cards and smaller rubbish found under the seats. The engine bay was full of dirt and I doubt it had been cleaned in the 24k that the truck was driven. Overall I would avoid if renting for business and stick to enterprise or etc, the women at the counter tried to convince me that I should cancel the rental and go there from the beginning of our interaction - she was probably right.

CAUTION RENTING FROM HERE!!!! I rented a car for my mother in Calgary to drive to her appointments. She arrived 20 minutes before her rental time and the front desk people told her that in order to give her a rental they would need to see her "pink slip" from her personal car insurance on her personal vehicle. There was no mention of this in the confirmation email we received when we initially rented the car. I later learned this information is deep in the fine print when you click into the contract through 2 different links. Even still, my mom was able to provide a copy of her pink slip, but was then told she had wait for a car to be ready. There were no cars and there was a lot of frustrated angry people who were in the same position as my mom. 2 hours later she still did not have a car and missed her appointment. when we tried to cancel the reservation for a refund they told us they were unable to do so and i had to contact the customer service line. I have emailed and called customer service multiple times no one has responded to me. This car rental left my senior mother confused and uncomfortable in a situation that should have been easy. She paid $40 for an Uber to bring her to the rental agency and left without a car. If there was a rating that was less than one I would use that. This was has been one of the worst customer service experiences I have ever had.

  • David Durnford

The staff at this location was rude and dismissive. The lack of friendly customer service was disturbing and something I have never experienced while renting a vehicle before. The vehicle was in good condition but we noticed a small crack in the windshield, luckily within a couple of minutes, and had to return to the office to inform them so we wouldn’t be liable for a new windshield. (Which we had to sign a specific document saying that we were responsible for a new windshield should something happen.) The staff never apologized for any inconvenience and were obviously in terrible moods. The attitude upon returning the car from the woman behind the counter was so rude and dismissive as if she just hated being there especially at 8:30 on a Sunday morning. The Jeep was fun to drive and affordable but I would never rent from or recommend Route at Calgary airport. The staff is in need of some serious customer service training. I’m thinking it’s probably a family run business and they have complaints all the time. (They have a huge sign behind the counter that reads “ it’s ok to disagree but not ok to disrespect.” The staff showed ZERO respect so the sign is obviously there to cover their own sorry people skills. It’s also why I give Route ZERO stars (it wouldn’t let me publish this without a star) and will not rent from them again or recommend them.

This "Routes" was the first I've tried and might be the last. After booking and paying through priceline the times for pickup and dropoff randomly changed from the times i picked ([PickUp]10:30am - 9pm [Dropoff]) to 12pm pickup and 12pm drop off. After calling Priceline they said I would have to change it through the Routes company, so i contacted the company by phone and they said they wouldnt be able to change it until we go there in person, we went there in person and they refused to allow us to extend the drop off time. I even offered to pay more to extend the time and they refused. After asking multiple times we were finally told we would need to come in and have it extended on the final day. *This is a personal note for anyone that hasnt rented a jeep before. It's a gas guzzler, you feel every bump, the wind will toss you about, the window will end up with crack within the first 10min of being on calgary roads and, for someone to break into it all a person has to do is stick something into the back rubber seal and pull open the window, not safe for luggage or shopping bags.* Also just a suggestion to management. Some staff should recieve customer service training by a professional, when you have very polite friendly and calm customers asking simple questions an employee should not snap or talk agressive towards them.

Very Disappointed. When I got to the rental car office, I ran into an unexpected problem that stopped me from completing the rental process. Apparently, my credit card's insurance coverage wasn't enough compared to the vehicle's replacement cost. This really surprised me as I've rented more expensive cars before, using my credit card insurance, without any issues. I tried to sort it out by offering to use the insurance on my personal car policy. I gave all the necessary details to the staff, but unfortunately, they said I couldn't do that without an insurance card with me. I even suggested renting a cheaper car that my credit card's insurance could cover, but that wasn't an option either. The only option possible was to purchase additional insurance through Routes. I declined to do this and In the end the desk agent offered to cancel the rental and assured me that I’d be refunded. HOWEVER, Routes are now refusing to process the refund claiming that I cancelled too late. I have contacted my credit card company to dispute the transaction. I am extremely disappointed with my first experience with Routes and will stick with reputable car rental companies in the future.

Would not recommend. Guy behind the counter was fine, a bit confusing but fine. I had to get my manager on the phone as it was booked by my work to get everything sorted out. It was the shuttle driver from who picked us up from the airport that was the issue. He would not let us all come inside and bring our luggage in. So 2 people stayed outside and 1 person went in. Shuttle driver brings the car around and starts hitting on my friend, while our other friend is on the phone and I am inside. Asks her if she is married and for her number and tells her he will call to make sure it's right. She is young and scared so she gives it but blocks him once we had left. He finds her on snapchat (she declines the request) and then nearly a month later finds her on tik tok! He knew when we were dropping the car off because it was early in the morning and I had asked where to put the keys, and a sketchy vehicle shows up and the man in it reclines his seat so we cannot see him. We can't guarantee it was that guy, but there is literally no one else around and nothing open. Quite a coincidence. Very unsafe, inappropriate and scary.

Be carefully with this place! This place has many problems. Big customer line, because every person is fighting with the car rental representative. They are trying to sell their own insurance, even if you have great credit card coverage. The only way for me to wave their insurance was to get a copy of "my personal car insurance" in Manitoba. They told me that this is their policy. Fortunately, my son was able to locate the insurance papers and send them to me by text message. They asked me to send a copy of my private car insurance to their email address. This place was trying to put lots of obstacles to force the customer to give up and buy their insurance. Also, many problems with unlimited miles. If you get a parking ticket, they will inform you and ad $50 admin fee, just FYI. This place also gets a 1500 deposit, make sure that your credit card has so much available limit (if you still decide to book from them). Don't get excited about the low price, it is not worth your nerves. I am also surprised that Expedia is not warning their customers. Will never use this company again......

Total scam This place has so many hidden costs We we told on our booking we had unlimited mileage as well as when we picked up our car we had unlimited mileage not once was it ever mentioned that because we are local we had to pay per KM until we dropped the car off. This place also gets a 1500 deposit off you which I’m sure we’ll have to wait 2 weeks until we get it back, if we even do because they seem like total scam artists. Also if you are a local driver don’t forget a pink slip for insurance that you have to provide even tho again, it doesn’t say you need anything like that or else they won’t give you your car. Totally rude staff took us an hour to actually get the car in the first place. Couldn’t pay cash couldn’t pay debit so everything was charged to the credit card. Worst company I have ever dealt with what we thought was going to be a cheap rental car for a couple days ended up costing about 500 (not including the 1500) do not recommend. Will use enterprise in the future. Do not go to this place. When we booked through Expedia it said the total price was 220. What a joke

I wouldn’t recommend them at all! Nothing went well with them. From the first day that I went to take the car until now that after 6 days they have not returned my deposit. They have a very bad policy regarding the insurance. They do everything to force you buy the insurance from them, and this was not only my problem almost every body who was in front of me had the same issue!! I signed lots of papers because I had bought my insurance from somewhere else! They gave a limited mileage of 400. The attitude of the person to admit me was very bad! When I went back to return the car there was a long line which caused everybody to do their process more than an hour, because there was only one person doing the job! Their car inspection is very long. They make photos and videos before and after while you are waiting with lots of details. And at last they have not returned my deposit money after 6 days and they keep putting the blame on the bank, which I have asked and it was not true! They are far away from airport 30 min walk! And they did not give advise to take the shuttle.

  • Lisa Snead

Truly terrible experience -- When we went to check out the car, staff took pictures and tried to have us sign for the car without letting us see the pictures. When we backed up on the ipad to look at them, they were taken at angles where you could not see existing scratches, dents, and windshield chips that you know they would have blamed on us. Staff were also extremely rude when we were asking to see the pictures and requesting they be retaken. On the return shuttle to the airport, the driver refused to speak to me (female) and would only speak to my husband, even in response to my asking a question about which terminal he was driving to. Of additional note, if you are renting through them via a third-party website like Expedia, be prepared for your fees to DOUBLE. They require insurance (ok, understandable) but any plan you buy from anyone else won't have enough coverage so you still have to buy through them-- our insurance cost as much as our five day rental and we had not planned to double the cost with that hidden fee.

I met the worst employee here in my life. I made a reservation, but I had to wait for a very long line. And then I met the worst employee. I was going to pick up a car with an international driver's license. Since 2019, Alberta has allowed foreigners to rent vehicles with the license. But the first employee said she didn't hear that and said no. I explained hard and showed the relevant official documents, but she didn't believe me. After that, the moment I gave up and tried to go out, I met the best employee. She listened to my situation and helped me. And she said me I can rent a car. But the first employee told her it wasn't possible. But she explained that it was possible and the first employee went back to her seat. The first employee knew about facts. But she didn't apologize to me. I was angry at the employee's behavior, but I just left because other people were waiting. Because of them, I picked up the car about two hours late, but they weren't responsible. I won't have to rent a car here again. 여기 절대 가지 마세용.

Do NOT rent a car from this company, or at least do not buy their insurance. We rented a car and paid the extra $30 per day for THEIR insurance. When we bought the insurance from them, they never said anything about a deductible, let alone a $3000 one. They just said that the insurance would cover any damage from a crash or a flat tire or windscreen cracks. So we bought it. Someone rear ended the car causing damage to the back light and panel and now they are saying there is a $3000 deductible for it. We’ve had a mechanic give us a quote to fix it and it was $1600. So now because we bought their insurance, we have to pay $3000 for a repair worth half the price. So their insurance is essentially a scam. Pay the extra and go with a bigger company like Enterprise that has a normal deductible, because if something ends up happening to the car you will be out of pocket $3000. The fact they don’t make the ridiculous deductible clear BEFORE you purchase the policy is a clear scam and against contract law principles.

CREDIT CARDS SCAMERS through car rent. This calgary location is 100% scam. These people charge you way more than they tell you. For two days they charged me almot C$920 on my two credit cards. I sposed to pay them C$228 in total including full coverage insurance. Keep eye on your credit card. I like to report about their scam and I will for sure. I did rent a car through the Economy Booking for Routes in Calgary airport two days ago. I also purchased the FULL insurance COVERAGE for my rental car via Economy Booking. At the time of renting the car, the rental company (Routes in Calgary) told me that this full coverage purchase via Economy Booking is useless (due to un-sufficient coverage) and we must purchase through the Routes. I had to pay/purchase insurance coverage though the Routes while I did not get refund for my insurance coverage via Economy Booking after sending an email to them with no response! I am very disappointed for the both Routes and Economy Booking!

  • Barb Currado

Horrible experience with this company . We had a car rented for five days through Expedia with this joke of a business from November 8-13th, 2023. Once we landed in Calgary and called them to retrieve us from the airport so we could make the hour drive to Canmore to see our son, we were rudely told that they were closed for the day (it was 7:15 pm even though their hours clearly state both on their website and their phone message that they are open until 9 pm). When we questioned the girl about this, she simply said, “not today”. When we told her we would be stranded at the airport, she told us we could get the car the next day!! Not acceptable service AT ALL!! We were forced to rent a car last minute from the airport which ended up costing us $150 more. However, Expedia was wonderful when we called and they refunded us our full amount even though Routes wanted to charge US a penalty!!! Would NOT recommend this place to anyone!!

  • Anish Burman

Highly disappointed with their services and ethics. I've never encountered such an unfortunate situation ever. I had a booking for a vehicle that I had booked with them through Expedia for an SUV between 3rd September and 8th September. Unfortunately when I reached, they wanted a $500 deposit extra. They already had charged me $866 through a credit card belonging to my daughter. Unfortunately, my credit card for $500 did not go through at Calgary due to technical reasons. I was willing to pay them the same amount through another credit card/debit card/cash but they hid behind "policy" and refused to give the vehicle. I had to organize an alternative mode of transport as I was stuck in Calgary. Now, when I'm asking for my refund of $866 they are refusing to pay. This is highly unethical and demands legal action and social awareness through social media. NEVER touch Routes again.

  • & All

One of the worst rental car companies. They charge so much for a deposit & take forever to acknowledge you. You will be standing there, trying to get their attention & you will still have to wait. The quality of the cars are terrible, the audio speakers didn’t even work in the car. We asked them before we left with the vehicle how often the shuttle comes & was told to just call when we are 5-10 minutes away & the shuttle will come. We did this & was told it will be there when we get there but it wasn’t, we also were not welcomed when we came in even though there were 4 people there working & we had to wait 10-15 minutes just to speak with someone. So as a total we had to wait about 30 minutes for the shuttle that was suppose to be there in 5. These people don’t know anything & are very rude! Please save yourself & don’t rent from here

  • Charity Fleming

DO NOT go here if you are pressed for time or don’t want to be stressed out. I booked through Expedia as it’s advertised as Calgary airport but it’s a 10 min drive away and the shuttle takes about 30 minutes each way. On top of the pick up and drop off time. Both when we picked up and dropped off it took at least 30-40 minutes once arrived at the Routes location. Never in my life have I had to wait at a car rental place so long. Others were waiting an hour they said. They also make you write down your actual policy number for your vehicle rental car coverage which I don’t think many people have as people in front of me and behind were on the phone calling their insurance companies. The shuttle as well didn’t help us with our luggage and didn’t seem to care at all about getting us to the airport. Worst service I’ve ever had

  • Ian Spraggs

Routes car rental in Calgary will not help you if you encounter any travel difficulties. They will take your money and leave you hanging dry. Due to a delayed flight, I was unable to land before their office shut at 8pm. I gave them over 6 hours advance notice of this, and the only thing they did was cancel the reservation entirely while refusing to issue any refunds. One would think a car rental at an airport would be used to managing this. I asked if I could pick up the car the following morning when their office opened (and pay the full original price) and they would not do this either, the reservation window having “expired”. They snatched back the car and held onto my money. Rent at your own risk. On top of this, customer service was impossible get hold of and absolutely terrible.

  • Tina Tewkesbury

This car rental agency came through for us big time! We leased a brand new Jeep and loved it. We felt that the price was fair and the service agents are polite and knowledgeable. If you are renting in Calgary area, I recommend getting windshield coverage as their roads are gritty with lots of stones for better traction in the winter. On our last day of the trip, a stone hit the windshield and we needed to pay for it. Routes also provides excellent shuttle service to and from the airport/hotel. The reason for 4 stars and not 5 is the place of business is not open early morning (before 9 a.m.) or later into the evening (past 8 p.m.). So, we dropped off the car the evening before and had the hotel shuttle take us to the airport. We highly recommend this business.

  • Kayla Landry

Horrible customer service. Booked online waited in line for 25 minutes to watch 6 staff members stand behind the counter while only one customer getting served at a time. Finally my turn. I hand in my drivers license an Alberta drivers license and she said are you aware we have “special rules” for Alberta drivers? I said no? She said you won’t get unlimited Kms I said that’s fine. Then she asked me for a copy of my pink slip. I told her I didn’t have access to my pink slip as it was in my car which was in BC at the time. I said if it’s a big deal I would pay the extra for their insurance. She said no I wasn’t allowed to buy their insurance. . Prices may be cheaper but it’s well worth booking with a more reputable rental company. I’m left stranded now.

  • Amin L

I rent vehicles very often and Routes was by far the worst company I have dealt with. When rental mini-van was booked thru a third party, I booked unlimited kms, Routes charged me additional for extra kms. Also, they did not accept a verbal no for their insurance, they wanted to see a pink slip of my personal insurance. For unexpected health reasons, we had to extend for 1 extra day, the company charged additional $613. Yes, $613 for 1 day. Thieves and crooks are running this location/ company. The Indian chaps tried to help but another lady was totally rude and not willing to help. When you call to discuss the extension options, they would rudely hang up saying ‘this is what it is’. Yes, madam, you’ll be out of work soon, that is what it will be!

  • RL

Expedia and Routes are a perfect match. I made a reservation around 11:30am through Expedia and pick up time will be at 1pm. I needed to cancel the reservation because i didn't have my credit card with me.I contacted Expedia around 1:15 to help me cancel my reservation and get a refund, I was told they got an email from Routes saying that Routes refused to give my money back because cancellation should be made 6 hrs prior pick up considering i made the reservation 1 hr and 30mins prior pick up time. I called Routes they told me that there is no way they can help and just hang up on me while i was still begging them to approve the refund. I don't think it's fair to just keep the money knowing the customer was not able to pick up the car.

  • Naseem Shaikh

Buyer beware this establishment is NOT FLEXIBLE, LACKS COURTESY, and the workers have no manners. My family with three young children have been travelling since 4:30AM and our flight arrived early in Calgary. The car is here, and we will return early to accommodate the time difference yet they want to charge us an extra $100 to take the car early?!? Nobody else is waiting for it. And the answer the lady rudely keeps giving over and over again is that we booked through Expedia so we can’t help you. No apologies, just raises her voice to say too bad. Flights do arrive late or early - I’m afraid to think what would happen had we arrived late!! Would they have just given our car away!?! This is not a professional establishment. Beware!!!!

  • Lee Hughes

My flights were changed the morning of my trip. When I called Routes to change or cancel my car (which was allowed according to the website) there was no-one to answer the phone. I called over a dozen times but was never able to reach a live person and nobody returned my calls. Also, when I selected the customer service option I was given an email address. Of course nobody got back to me via email until a day later and they were no help. I had to rent a car from another agency when I arrived at YYC since there was no rental desk and no way to call their shuttle. They still did not answer their phone days later and have refused to refund my $375.00 USD after I disputed it through my credit card. I don't know how they stay in business.

  • Ryan Lindquist

Avoid these guys like the plague! They may appear cheaper initially but they will soak you for extra fees. Charged me a full extra day rental based on an hour difference. They also started the time frame an hour before I took the vehicle because Multiple people were having issues at the counter with them. They also charged me an out of province fee for travelling to BC while at the same denying me unlimited mileage because I possessed an AB drivers license. Lastly, they are the ONLY place that required proof of my own personal insurance to take the vehicle. Staff are friendly but don't provide explanations for anything. "Company policy" they say or "I just work here". Lol Will NEVER rent from this company again.

  • ALi Zgheib

I rented a car from this company through Expedia. It mentions clearly that the mileage was unlimited . When I went to pick up the car after waiting 2 hours in the line up , I was told that I am allowed only 200 km /day because I am from Alberta and they will charge 20 cents / km . They also wanted me to show them my insurance policy with 2 million liability (they do that so they can force you to buy their coverage). It was useless to argue with their rude and unprofessional employees. When I returned the car, there was also more than half an hour wait. Be careful about renting with this company even if you feel that they are cheaper. they will scam you.

  • Gillian Overholser

Absolutely horrible experience! Tried to get through via phone to cancel because I was feeling poorly and was worried that I might have Covid. No one picked up the phone for hours and when they finally did, they said it was too late for me to cancel, despite the fact that I bought special insurance through Expedia. It was a three day rental, and they refused to refund me one single penny despite the fact that (since I kept calling for hours) they were notified the first day and could rent out the car for all the other days! Truly a terrible customer service experience in every possible way. I absolutely do not recommend this place.

  • William Hyde

Terrible experience. Somehow my reservation was duplicated and 2 cars were reserved under my name when I arrived to pick up my vehicle. Why would I book 2 cars for the same days for myself? After 2 weeks of back and forth I was told they won’t refund my duplicate booking and so I’ve been charged double for one car rental. Ridiculous. Terrible way to treat customers. And very disorganized office. I was called 24 hours AFTER returning the one vehicle I did rent and asked “when are you returning the vehicle” and I had to inform them that I dropped off exactly when it was due. Disorganized, awful customer service. Don’t use this place.

  • Abdi Rasekh

Worst experience ever. This company is a total scam. My flight to Calgary was delayed until 10:30pm arrival time.I tried to call them and nobody answered. Then I emailed them and just got an automatic reply that they will get back to me and never replied. Finally I sent my cousin who lives there locally. They assured her that I can get my car at 10:30 pm. I arrived to airport and called the number. I got a voice mail and then found out that they close at 8 pm! I had to get a car from Avis. They were extremely nice and helpful at 10:30 pm. If your flight has any delay you are on your own. I wish there was a category for zero star!

  • Rohan Bijlani

When you book a car from an airport you expect they will be at the airport and open atleast till midnight. Not this company. They have business hours not suitable for airport rentals. We got our rental a day later since they close at 8:00 pm.!!!! No refund or changes allowed. Fine! Now had to return the car before 8:00 AM and they wont let us !! They were rude and threatening us of extra charges if we left the car before that. I didn’t have time to research them.. booked a car with DiscoverCars and got this company. Paid extra, bad customer service, and had to shuttle ourselves back and forth.!!

  • Hiro Tsujimoto

I came here on the Saturday of the labor day weekend. This company is off site from the airport. There is a free shuttle bus to take you back and forth which is great. When you get here however, if there is a line up, expect to wait atleast an hour to get a car. This is by far one of the most inefficient car rental company I have ever experienced. Will not be renting here again. No disrespect to the 2 ladies working the counter, they should have brought in more staff if they knew it would be busy. Very frustrating and disappointing. Will not be using this company ever again.

  • Daxil Patel

I am utterly appalled by the abysmal service provided by Route Car Rental. Despite booking a car three weeks in advance, I was left seething with anger as I waited for a staggering two hours just to receive the vehicle I had reserved. This level of inefficiency and disregard for customers is nothing short of outrageous. I implore anyone considering their services to think twice, as this experience has been a harrowing lesson in what not to expect from a car rental company. My patience and trust were sorely misplaced, and I am left deeply disappointed.

  • Ronald Lee

The Routes Car Rental provided excellent customer service. I was provided free shuttle service to and from the airport. the rental agent processed the rental agreement quicky. The only difficulty I encountered was returning the vehicle to the rental car agency because trying to locate aeroport road is rather confusing , if you miss the turn off you end up on Deerfoot Trail and have to back track. Perhaps telling the rental customer the easiest directions to the Routes Rental car agency from the airport would help.

  • Riaz Qureshi

Booked a Nissan Rouge and got an equivalent Ford Focus that had about 60K on it and was dirty inside. The crew repeatedly wanted me to get additional insurance that was not required and tried to scare me with penalties if the car is damaged. They even offered me stone chip and tire damage insurance and got papers signed when I refused. At return they checked the car comparing it to old photos--nothing happened but it adds unnecessary stress. If future I will go to a reputable company even if it costs extra.

  • Matt Johnson

Had a prepaid booking, had to take a cab to pick up my vehicle, got in about 1 hour early and in turn was charged another $220 for picking up early. Then I returned the car a day earlier and was still charged full price. Also upon return I was told I owed 1400$ more, I argued that it was prepaid and they finally agreed. Assuming some folks wouldn’t argue and just pay. Would not recommend this place to anyone. Poor service, price looks great at the start, beware. Good way to spoil a vacation. Never again.

  • John Smith

Dishonest indeed. Called them for a reservation, and inquired about where they are at YYC. The rep said they aren't at the airport, despite being listed and advertised as such. Unless you're particularly desperate to save a bit, just pay a bit more for the peace of mind and so your travel plans are not spoiled by unscrupulous people prone to scammy behaviour. You definitely get the sense that they will try to scam or nickel and dime you - can't put my finger on it but they just give you that impression.

  • Mo Music Studio

Took a business trip to Alberta and got stuck with this car rental company. Why you ask? Because they neglect to inform you that you need an absurd amount of 500 dollars to get you vehicle. You’re also met with terrible Customer service which makes you reminiscence of your service relationship with Popeyes. Not only are they slow to boot, they leave you questioning your ideology on humanity itself. Honestly if I could I would rate this place a zero but google deprives me of such satisfaction. Good day.

  • Ashleen Gill

Worst service ever bunch of scammers! DO NOT GO HERE!!! , booked online with unlimited kms went in person asked me a bunch of questions then said kms are NOT unlimited on the vehicle and also wanted a $1500 deposit LOOL! Bunch of liars and scammers. Worst experience ever renting a car. We rent cars all the time it was our first time renting from routes and it was the worst experience and a waste of time. There were a bunch of other people standing there upset with their lies.

  • Sj Kim

We travelled Calgary and Banff national park with a car from here. Car is perfect, staff at here are kind and considerate. We had some probelm of our credit card because we are international traveller from Korea, but they tried their best to rent us a car. Also for the airport shuttle, they picked up us only 5 minutes after we called them. Also they dropped off us at airport after returned car. It was really nice experience with them, and with Banff♥️♥️

  • Bushra Helal

Great rental company near the airport. Not walkable from the Calgary airport, but they provide a shuttle bus between the airport and the rental office. The car (Ford Explorer) i got was okay, but had all service lights on/blinking so the car may not have been technically maintained well enough. Staff were helpful. They give a 1 hour grace period for rental returns which was nice. Paid $500 deposit which was reversed a few days after returning the car.

  • Ghassan S

This is without a doubt the worst rental company that I have ever had the terrible luck to deal with! Especially the awful person that handled my booking! From the rude awful treatment when I took the car to them charging me $75 for literally a dot chip in the windshield to the 2 and half month claim case stuck with the insurance because their department is too lazy to provide a closed rental agreement! Avoid this terrible business at all costs.

  • Nerio Azuaje

Terrible Service, If your are looking for a decent rental car, please find somewhere else. First of all, Customer service pretty bad, never made eye contact, they offered me a car with 200Km milage and I ordered with 400km because I have a Alberta's Driver License What the heck, it didn't make sense. They just want to rip off your! Go to another place! I forgot about the shuttle, poor service and is coming every 1h from the airport.

  • Michael Morrell

Bait and switched us without even wining and dining us. Great initial price, showed up and the insurance was 2x the price of the rental. What made the process that much more ‘pleasant’ was the fact that they wouldn’t let us use our ICBC or CC insurance we had for car rentals. Once they had us at their out-of-airport office, they held all the cards. Huge kudos for coming in with a star rating better than Lynx Air

  • Ashwin Shah

Routes Car rental at Calgary are dishonest, they have very poor customer service, long wait & would not take care of Tire repair expense even when it was found immediately after leaving their place. In fact after giving us all O.K. upon our return, they are making false claims of car damage to get more money from us & would not take care of our Tire fixing issues & expense. would NOT recommend Routes, Calgary to anyone.

  • April Johnstone

Disappointed to see how far the car rental place was from the airport. Little to no advice on how to how to get from the airport to the rental shop- had to take a Uber $20 to find out afterwards there was a shuttle. And the rental shop ( and bathroom) was very dirty as well as the shuttle van upon return to airport - very dirty. Staff friendly enough. The jeep was in excellent condition and check in and out was easy !

  • Waqar Taqvi

I would highly suggest not to book this car rental service. They provided me lower category car which was $200 cheaper and uses high gas on mileage. Also did not honor the insurance plan I purchased while booking. After all of this frustration, i had to wait 40 minutes for the car to be available. Staff was not friendly and they don't care about customers. Do your self a favor and please book from some other company.

  • Lisa Bloch

The car was good, as was the price however they seemed underprepared and overwhelmed by the number of customers. Long waits for the shuttle to take you to their facility and not enough room for everyone. Also, the shuttle and the facility was pretty dirty, especially the bathroom. Not a huge deal but didn't inspire a lot of confidence. Finally, staff wasn't the friendliest. Not sure I saw one smile while there.

  • Erin Kimzey

Reserving the car was the easiest part of this process. Once we arrived at Calgary airport, we waited over 20 minutes for a shuttle to the office. Each shuttle was full and we ended up getting a Lyft instead of waiting. Very, very frustrating. We arrived at the office and again waited while they dealt with many unhappy customers. We had a similar experience with them in Atlanta. Will not rent from them again.

  • Shumie Mhoshiwa

They are the worst rental company. If you book with expedia or other 3rd parties they don't inform you that you must get their insurance to take their vehicle. So after your card has been charged, you're either forced to pay the ridiculous amount for their insurance, which costs more than renting the vehicle, or walk away without a refund. I couldn't afford the insurance so I lost all my money.

  • Chris O’Hara

Wasn’t my best experience. Waited over 45 min for shuttle from airport to car in Calgary, lucky it wasn’t -30c. I refused insurance and in order to do so I had to produce my personal insurance policy which I didn’t know if who carries that on them when they travel. Finally I could use my M/C to prove I had insurance. They really push the insurance thing and windshield insurance is extra

  • Derek Ferguson

I would never rent from Routes again. It took 40 minutes for the shuttle to show up. Had to uber it to airport after return because shuttle didn't show up. They rented me a car with chips in windshield and when i returned they asked whether the chips happened on my rental. I told them to charge me for the chips. I suspect they try to charge everyone for chips that were already there.

  • Laia Jordana

The service was great, easy pick up and drop off and they even have a shuttle service to the airport. They upgraded our car for free and it was in excellent condition, brought us through the rockies super easy and comfortably! Just be aware there is 1.5k$ retention in your credit card but that's apparently the case in all rental companies within the area, so not their fault!

  • Michael Bannerman (UPSIDE OF MAYBE)

You will wait forever. Staff are grumpy and the place is incredibly slow. Also all sorts of pressured “up sale” tactics and fees. Would definitely recommend you look elsewhere unless you enjoy spending hours sitting and waiting for your ride. Two stars may be too generous but we did eventually leave with the right vehicle at the price we were quoted… so there was that.

  • Inu R

I don't recommend this place. Charged us $15/day for an additional driver when other places don't. They also put a hold of $1,500 on my card in case there was vehicle damage, when others put a much lower hold. Also very surprising that they don't put winter tires when we get so much snow. We paid for an SUV and they said it was available but gave us a small car instead.

  • Mary O'Sullivan

Fraudulent company. Charged me for insurance I didn't need and b4 I left rental counter and given car I told them. They would not refund and said I had to sign form saying Ill wait 30 days and NOT inform my credit card. Its well over 30 days and no refund. Routes is also not at airport. Car was also filthy. Routes, Ill take down this review when you refund my $374!!!!

  • Serena Woo

I had a reservation for car pickup at 10:30am and arrived at 10:15am. We waited in line for so long and did not receive our vehicle until 11:30am which is extremely frustrating as we had plans following. No point in having reservations if they are not going to be honoured. However, vehicle was VERY clean, the car was in very good condition and the staff were friendly.

  • Agustin Lara

I have mixed feelings about this place. They had my car on time, the price was better than other places, car was new and super clean. The only bad thing about this place is the service, the hace no client service at all, employees seem annoyed and are rude even with the nicest clients. If you are looking for a nice car with the right place, this is for you!

  • Wes Nykolyn

Good service. Chose a any car option and got a keep wrangler which was neat. Gas tank wasn’t full when I got it and when I filled it to bring it back it cost me probably $30 or so more than it should of. Also open at 8. Had to drop off car at 6 to get to airport which cost me another $22 in Uber. It would be nice if they operated when airport operates.

  • Chris Pickett

This was a horrible experience. READ THE FINE PRINT or find a better company to rent from. Alberta drivers require an existing coverage on a vehicle... Limited to 200 km for Alberta residents. That and a 1500 deposit. Expedia doesn't make this clear and so you are in for a surprise. Long waits, unclear phone connections. Worst way to start a trip.

  • Vithushah J

Loved my experience with Routes car rental. Staff were very friendly and have great suggestions about the different route as well coverages such as tire and windshield cover. Definitely recommend and not all roads were smooth and really just gave us a peace of mind. To top it all off, we got a beautiful wrangler to explore in. Would recommend !

  • Scott Wardley

Pick up at YYC was right across from exit 5 at airport (would have been nice to give the pick up spot 22 on the notification email). Waited 10 minutes for the pick and 15 minute ride to the site. If your down for the savings and can spare the time then the service is great. Had a Jeep and it was a great vehicle and return was promptly handled.

  • Huy Nguyen

For the value, this rental company was worth it. Just understand that you’ll have to give more time to find the shuttle on arrival and return shuttle to the airport as it is off site. Make sure you have your own additional insurance coverage as the add ons and potential damage costs can get very pricey. You do get what you pay for in service.

  • Pete and Stacey O’Rourke

I rented a car with Routes Car rental for a week while I was visiting calgary. It was not on airport property but very close to airport. For the savings it was worth it to shuttle to pick up the car. The staff were friendly and courteous. I had no issues picking up or dropping g off my vehicle. Would definitely rent with Routes again!!!

  • Christopher Billano

Staff are friendly Aman offer me some chips a very accommodating girl and jonsie, was very well detailed and helpful. As soon as I got from the trip shivam accommodate me and made sure the rest of the trip was good. Gurpreet drove me back to the airport a complimentary service he told me about the company was really good. It was amazing

  • Sher Weiers

If I could give this place a 0 I would ! I had the car an hour , And the sun roof blew up while driving on Stoney Trai! . I returned the car immediately and the charged me $1000 bucks! They were very rude and spoke in there own language instead of English ! I would never recommend this place at all ! $ 1500 dollar charge for holding !!

  • Sulaman Abdul

Such a joke of a company. Asking for my insurance details. No other places ask for insurance details when you don’t pay for coverage. Also we booked through Expedia and said its unlimited mileage and when we get there it says it’s restricted to 200km a day. Never booking with routes again. They have the most ridiculous rules and policy

  • Gavin

It looks like cheaper than other car rentals, however it’s far away from airport and no shuttle bus to transfer from airport. More importantly, Be careful! There are some tricks, Inssurence, tickets and some other fees are underneath the paper. You will pay more after you back home. Never use this company again, do not recommend!

  • Lung-Chi Chen

There were many added charges that were not listed when I made the reservation. The owner/manager was very rude, yelling at us when we complained about the added charges. The staff also ignored us when we returned our car instead taking the person that arrived after us. This is not a reputable car rental place. Avoid if you can.

  • K Marath

I had an amazing experience with Routes Car Rental in Calgary! Shivam, the agent, went above and beyond by upgrading me to a brand new, spotless Jeep Wrangler. It made my trip incredibly enjoyable, adding a sense of adventure and fun to my journey. Highly recommend this agency for their excellent service and top-notch vehicles.

  • Conor Donaghy

Great experience from start to finish, very helpful staff. Price for rental was fantastic, and no hidden fees. Was running late returning the vehicle and arrived as they were closing. They were still kind and understanding and even shuttled me to the airport after they were closed for the night. Will definitely use again!!

  • Anmol Kaur

Aman provided us a really good service. We rented Jeep from here, very nice and clean. We reached agency about 15 minutes from closing and staff was very understanding in arranging shuttle for us to airport. I would recommend it to any customer out there as they have good rates and staff is very accommodating.

  • Ali Wines

Worst car rental experience ever! I had to wait 40min in the cold for the shuttle at the airport, staff were beyond rude (the desk agent literally threw the paperwork at me), gas tank wasn’t full and the interior windscreen was filthy. Definitely don’t recommend - not worth the marginally cheaper prices.

  • Hank Krueger

For an offsite rental car agency, it was a good experience. Didn't have to wait long for the shuttle, between a 5 and 10 minute ride.Good vehicles at a good price. Just one caution... it's best if your flight times are within their hours of operation; otherwise, you'll have to Uber to/from the office.

  • P Y

Very good customer service. They have an amazing fleet of cars available for rental. Shuttle pick up and drop was quick and easy from airport. We booked a standard suv and got a newish Jeep Wrangler Sahara. Recommend renting from this location. Vivek Taneja helped us quickly with checkout process.

  • Zing Lee

Fair pricing, friendly staffs, no extra hidden cost, relatively new and clean cars. One thing we appreciated the most was they really gave us the car model we rented, but not “similar/equivalent” car types, where most of other rental companies will do according to my experience.

  • BayDanceEng

When we returned the vehicle, they tried to charge extra. The agent said it was late and it smelled smoking. It was less than one hour late based on the time of receving the key and no one in our party ever smoked in our lives. They didn't charge after I disbuted with the facts.

  • Amaris Leitch

Was hesitant at first as it was my first rental but everything was simple, with a quick 5 min shuttle. I wasn't picky, so I saved $100 by letting them choose a vehicle for me. $150 for 6 days, unlimited mileage - WOW! The vehicle was in mint condition and road so smoothly!

  • Roger Stephan

Car wasn’t ready for us upon arrival. After an hour we got our car that was somewhat clean. If it was raining there would be a lot of wet customers waiting for cars. Staff need to clear and precise when communicating. I would not recommend if your wanting a quicker option

  • ITS Construction Ltd

I got the worst experience there. I booked car online and says unlimited milage. They said they have new policy 200 km limited all cars. They dont put their own insurance i have to use my own also they want $1500 deposit. First and last time car rental from routers

  • anthony

The checking in and out process was very quick and smooth and the shuttle from the location to the airport was extremely convenient! We ended up renting the jeep which was really nice and easy to drive. Overall with the discount they had it was a great experience.

  • Gagnon Beach (Gagnon Beach)

This was not a good rental car experience for us. They were difficult to communicate with and we were forced to buy extra insurance even though we had coverage. Overall highly dissatisfied with our rental through them and definitely would not rent there again.

  • Giovanni Mcleish

The experience at the front desk was good. The attendants explained everything clearly and even though I had reserved a small SUV, I was upgraded to a large one at no extra cost. The deposit may be a bit steep, but provided nothing goes wrong, all was well.

  • Mitch Ring

DO NOT USE. Shuttle from the airport took 45 mins. We called multiple times and were told he was on the way multiple times. All lies. Once we finally got there they had no idea what was going on. Told us mulitple prices on insurance. Total joke. Do not use

  • Brad Lynch

Sharon and the rest of the staff were pleasant and helpful. The car was clean and ready to go when we arrived. Although the rental location was a little out of the way compared to competitors near the Calgary airport the overall experience was great.

  • Tina Rinderle

Great experience! Enjoyed the forest green Jeep Wrangler Limited. All the bells and whistles, so clean! Efficient staff. You’ll want to use their insurance (not what is offered through Expedia - it’s not enough coverage). Recommend highly!!

  • Arindam Nandi

I was a little hesitant at first to rent from this location because of the mixed reviews. Then I realized that a lot of the bad reviews are because of failure to read or understand the T&C. My experience was great. Pick up was smooth. The

Overall good experience. Car was clean, the shuttle team was very helpful and kind. The check in process was a little slow but overall still reasonable. The only downside is that they are off site unlike the other rental car agencies.

  • Gursahib Singh

They are simply running a scam. They do not inform the customers about which license will be accepted and then do not issue any refund later. I highly recommend people to rent their cars from reputed companies like Enterprise, Alamo,

Insurance isn't included in the price, although I'm not an Alberta resident the lady insisted I buy their insurance otherwise I can't rent a car. She also wanted me to sign rental agreement without showing me the terms and conditions

Although not right at the airport, pickup and drop off of the vehicle was very easy and convenient. Their complimentary shuttle runs back and forth and there was no wait time. The vehicle I rented was fairly new and in great shape.

  • Sugar Baguio

I was skeptical but Routes Car Rental Calgary proves it wrong! Service was excellent! We are Jeepers so we made sure to book the wrangler. Car was clean and new! No hassle at all. And free shuttle from and to the airport!
