I have love hate relationship with this particular IGA. Lets start with the positives. Their Deli is probably the best part of the supermarket. It has an old school charm, the ladies behind the counter look after it very well and it has really good variety of deli meats, cheeses and olives. There is a lot here that you cannot find at the major supermarket chains. You can find a lot of European and Asian products that can be hard to find elsewhere. If you need non perishables from Germany, Macedonia, Serbia, Bosnia, Poland, Malta, Greece or Italy this is a great place to pick up your pickles, ajvar, german mustards, mastic etc. The Asian section is your stock standard. They also have a nice selection of pastas, tinned tomatoes, bread (don't expect sourdough) and dairy products. The Butcher section is great for the price and quality. Pork has no boar taint as it's all female pork and they have a range of cuts available. I especially like the pork neck. Their beef and chicken could be improved as sometimes the beef is tough and the chicken has a grainy texture and chemical smell. Their premium beef mince is great to make burgers as it has a good ratio of meat to fat. The staff are rustic, real and wear their heart on their sleeves. They never fake how they are feeling but don't take it out on you either. However, some of the staff at the butcher department are quite grumpy and unhelpful. There is a difficult language barrier if you want to enquire about something in English as they only speak Vietnamese. Ok now for the negatives. The supermarket is run down, somewhat unhygienic, grotty and there are some weird smells around the place. The people who clean the IGA at night don't do a very good job, all you need to do is see the sweeper and mop they use. They are filthy and smell like an off rag. The supermarket requires a major upgrade and renovation and it needs a REALLY deep clean. The shopping baskets and trolleys are dirty, grimy and this standard is not what is expected at a place that sells food. The fruit and vegetables are only fresh on some days of the week. Mainly Thursdays and Fridays. Do not bother with the fruit as all the apples are bruised, oranges dry and pears bordering on mouldy. You will find a lot of fresh produce here just about to go bad. Cabbage, pumpkin and capsicums seem to be consistently good though. The car parking situation is a disaster. Especially, when a lot of people coming from non English speaking backgrounds shop here and there is also a lot of elderly who shop here too. They find it difficult to navigate the ticketing system and many cars are stuck behind the boom gate because they didn't validate their ticket. All signage is in English and can be hard to understand if English is not your first language. You need a lot of patience at this car park and if you want to park for free you also need to spend $10 or more, which is not great if you need to pick up only a few things. Sadly, parking around the supermarket (Alfrieda St, Victoria St etc) is hard to come by. Overall, the supermarket has a lot of positives, however can be improved in many areas. The owner Christina needs to use the money to upgrade/renovate the supermarket, hire new cleaners (and keep it hygienic!) and upgrade the fresh produce's quality and freshness. Instead of purchasing herself an expensive BMW car, she should be putting money into her business to keep customers returning and new one's coming in to shop there. She needs to understand that if you invest in a business you will make regular customers happy to shop there and gain interest of new customers. Christina, please make these changes for our community as the IGA is falling behind with the times. St Albans is changing, and moving forward but your supermarket is not improving or upgrading.

Just moved here and decided to look through the local iga... I do not plan on going there again. At the checkout i was asked to show my bag, which i was more than happy to do. She continued to argue with me about my purchases from woolworths, very obvious she was implying I stole the plugs in my bag. Another employee finally informed her they do not sell the plugs she accused me of stealing. The OLD (yeah love, you and your red head friend are over the 'hill') lady and her red-headed manager did not apologise but continued to try and excuse her bad behaviour. Im getting too old to be treated like a thief, appalling behaviour from employees, their apology was full of excuses. Absolutely PATHETIC.

Absolutely shocked with the cleanliness of this store. Walking to the store smell of Urine and rubbish on the street and front door of the store , their back roller door was opened with delivery guy smells bad and dirty. Inside the store workers handling food items without gloves. Meat and vegetable were stinky. Cashier very dirty looking, chewing gum or eating. Talking on phone and not attending respectfully to customers. Hope health department audit this place. I felt I was in third world country!

after recommending this place several times to people. I am disgusted at the way I was treated today zero out of 1000. there are some freindly staff. there is also a very rude lady working the bottle shop. over all. "store policy" is to belittle the customer when it suits them. they should clean their ears out and answer our questions directly instead of answering with a form of blackmail

Pros - Great range of food products (including from Europe) Offers some good specials Cons - Can improve on the cleanliness of the store Need to work on their customer service skills (eg. Bag checks are ok but some staff yell and dig their hands into your bag, if they can't see the items properly, they can just ask the customers to please open up their bag more for them to see inside)

It's an okay supermarket. They have lots of imported food and other goods from other countries if you are looking for international products that cannot be found elsewhere. However it is usually more expensive compared to its competitors and the store itself is just a bit dumpy and dark and definitely needs an upgrade. It's bit of an eyesore from the outside too

The place is great except for the general cleanliness. It absolutely stinks inside as soon as you walk through the doors. Other than the almost unbearable odour, the place has great international foods (most of the food is European or Asian) and at very competitive prices. Always has customers in there and lovely staff.

If we ever have an apocalypse and one Supermarket remains. I hope its IGA St Albans lol. Absolutely love this Store and its wide range of Local and international brands/products. Prices have been good for me and the Meat OMG WOW! Hard to beat their Butchery! We travel a few Suburbs just to buy items here FIVE STARS

This IGA has a pretty good variety range of products from Europe. However, the store is quite dirty and I often find overdue or mouldy products in store. It really needs a renovation. The people who work there are often rude and treat you suspiciously. Not the best shop on the area.

Staff are rude, they accuse customers of lying, they talk down to customers especially Diep who claimed she was a manager but is only a customer service person. Where has old fashioned customer service gone as it does not exist in IGA St Albans.

Shopped here for 25 years .went to the Deli to buy krankys ...the young asian girl working the deli was so Rude I shall never return to this store again...will let the community know of this mistreatment of a elderly Handicapped person...!!

Good selection of European food and produce, also excellent Asian section so you can get all in one place. Prices are lower compare to coles and woolly. Quality no comparison to the garbage you get in coles or wooly deli section nowadays.

This IGA MADE such important improvements to outside of the store, street and back alley - it is clean. The of car was removed. The Rubbish was removed. The only thing is front door and Rubbish can!!!⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ …

Always these old hags begging for ciggie money at the car park door. Enter from other door to avoid the smoke. Keep away on weekend as the door is locked. Inside the supermarket is ok. Cleaner than an outdoor market but not much.

This IGA has a good mix of products, it has a decent international section of east asian products and also some south/central slav produce as well. Prices are decent, but the quality of some of the meat is a bit of a let-down.

Deli service is not what you ask for here eg can you slice it decent like normal thickness but no when you get home and unwrap your cold meat it's tissue paper thin omg you need 12 14 slices to make one decent sandwich

Everything under one roof and reasonably priced, with great parking especially in such a busy area. My only critique is that the store is quite dated and in sore need of a upgrade of the interior.

Worst experience! No customer service what so ever. Can't even help with their own parking ticket mechine. Run by a bunch of senseless people. You will never get business from me again.

They've done their homework, produce reflects the local residents. Fresh produce, pickles galore, bread a halal as well as a non halal section for deli produce and tinned goods.

Cannot believe you sell products that have pictures of a war criminal on them! It's a disgrace that you sell "Draza Pear Brandy" .. named after a Chetnik Serbian War Criminal!

Your fruits need to be more fresh than they are now. My shopping at IGA is an interesting one cos l never get bored. The staffs are friendly and thier services too good.

Stores look dark & gloomy plus the workers need to work on their people skills as some are very rude & the service isn't as good as Woolworths or Coles.

Bought pork belly today. As soon as i cooked it, it smelt bad. Pork was off. Never buying meat goods here again. They don't bother keeping good fresh

I really like the variety at this supermarket. They have a great mix of the standards, European specialities and some Asian offerings.

Can improve their cleanliness and over store feel. Its not a place I would go shopping enjoyment, rather would just go for essentials.

Shop here for continental products hard to find anywhere else.Needs a remerchandise to group similar products in one area.

I only went to the bottle shop. It had a good selection of wines. The staff were friendly. All in all a good experience.

It’s a very big store. Plenty of parking really caters for Europeen foods, butchers big deli very popular IGA store.
