I happened by on Noriega after making a deposit at my CU ATM. I spontaneously decided to watch the sun set over the ocean. Since I was much closer to the beach and "The Great Highway" than I was to my home, it seemed like a GREAT idea. As soon as I saw this location, I took it as a sign that I had made the right decision. #ImpromptuPicnicTime They let me bring my bicycle in while I shopped! That's ALWAYS a huge seller for me. I ASKED the security guard permission 1st of course. Young 90's militant anarchist bike messenger me would have just rolled in and amusedly dared them to pursue me. By the time they would catch up to me, I would be waiting patiently in line smiling my winningest smile at the cashier with a full 20 lb WALT basket of groceries. Pull up tough, shrugging, and asking them innocently, "what? Oh, you thought I was STEALING?! " I am narrower and nimbler than an awkward shopping cart. Now, we have self check out! I was able to grab up my favorite charcuterie items and a salad easily enough. Self check out was a breeze. From there, I slid to Ocean Beach for the just in time to watch "Karl the Fog" obscure the before it touched the . A good end to a beautiful day! I even got 500 Fetch app pts and 30 gas pts for Chevron gas for that little $30 visit. In ANY city in Cali, I can always count on you to be there for me, Safeway. Thanks!
Sadly this is the closest Safeway and grocery store to my house. It’s the worst shopping here, I don’t blame the employees they have it super rough bc they are SO understaffed. There’s no one ever in the deli and today when I got some sliced cheese from the deli, they informed me they had already cleaned the cheese slicer and would have to use the meat one. I seriously don’t get it .. if I was vegetarian it would be really bad but I tried to roll with it bc the worker was clearly miserable and I didn’t wanna be a bother. I truly hate coming here. There’s also consistently only one lane open, today the only lane open also had a broken conveyer belt and we had to push our items down the disgustingly dirty belt .. for what the prices are lately it’s honestly sad they can’t pay workers more and have better staffing during the most busy times (after work 5-6pm). I need to remember to avoid this place.
The pharmacist made me cry. I don’t think I had ever been so humiliated and frustrated by anyone, let alone a healthcare professional. After taking a medication for over a year from the same local doctor, the pharmacist decided not to fill my script because I meet with my doctor over zoom. The pharmacist demanded my doctor’s office turn over my treatment plan and “charts” to prove I was seeing a legitimate doctor and not an online pill farm. This is a local SF doctor, not someone calling in prescriptions from across the country. I went days without my meds, and at the insistence of my doctor, their office, and every other medical professional I spoke with, stopped filling that prescription at Safeway. The self righteousness of this pharmacist is out of control. He should stay in his lane, and never make someone seeking treatment feel so chastised and vulnerable.
Really don’t understand how how so many people can work behind the deli counter and yet be so incredibly inefficient. I am regularly ignored by employees behind the counter while I wait in line, sometimes for upwards of 10 minutes or more when there is NO ONE ELSE THERE. What is the point of preparing food for the deli cases if no one can actually get to it because of the lack of employee engagement? When someone finally does address the customer, the quality of the prepared sandwich ranges from appalling to lack luster. The one redeeming quality of this Safeway is the pharmacy staff, hence why it is a 2 star rather than a 1 star review.
Safeway is consistent across the bay. No matter where you go you know you're going to get the same absolutely poor quality, soon to be expired and mishandled food stuffs. Just today I come to find that one of the hotdog buns in the bag I brought home appears to have been eaten by some kind of critter. The only thing Safeway is good for is catching covid since their employees are beyond inept when it comes to maintaining their distance. Also great at tossing cartons of eggs around the register. But fortunately (for them), the central sunset district is a supermarket desert, so get over it, you don't have a choice.
Missing some of the more specialty specialty items, but you can always count on them having something keto. I love the sliced keto bread and you can sometimes get it for under 5 bucks a loaf on sale but it'll usually run 5-6.99. It is often on sale though. They carry monk fruit and allulose sweeteners, almond and coconut flours+ xanthum gum and the standard bob's red mill variety. The chobani zero sugar and rat:o yogurts are snatched, hunny. And as always, Safeway is best for sales and clearance items because you can easily spend $50 on just a few regular price items and wish there were a grocery outlet close by.
They straight up are allowed to let you use the bathroom and won’t do it sometimes, are rude, and don’t give workers enough respect or opportunities. The hiring system to me is outrageous and inefficient, and the food is average at best. The major advantage to shopping at Safeway is to get gas discounts which make up for their lack of character development. They are also very conservative about new products and so they would not be my first choice if I were a small farm just starting out. I’d recommend if you are really serious about working with them getting a minimum of 20 acres so they can take you seriously.
They frequently overcharge and many customers probably never realize. Almost every time I’ve shopped here one or more items register at the full price instead of the sale price. Last time the difference was $20 dollars. I’ve never had this happen once at Whole Foods. How many customers check out every day without realizing they overpaid? Probably dozens or more. This store should be fined. If you shop here make sure to check that every sale price/coupon is being applied or you may get overcharged. Will never shop here again.
I was just there for a Starbucks coffee. Don't get me started on safeway. As long as they're going to use all this products with artificial colors flavoring and preservatives and extra sugar and just all the junk that they put in there I will continue to dislike that place. They could do much better. You guys need to keep up with whole foods. The charge as much as they do so why don't you have food as good as those not that I like whole foods all that much but you guys are living tha 20th century.
This Safeway is my least favorite. Fewer brand options, difficult to find what I need. The egg area always looks like there was a fight. The security guards creep me out. One wears a black baseball cap, black sunglasses, a black cloth mask pulled up over the ears, and black gloves so you can't see any part of the human. He likes to lurk silently in the dark corners and doesn't reply when spoken to. I don't come to this Safeway unless I have to because it makes me feel un-Safe!
Safeway's a good place to get groceries and it seems to be even a better place to find bike thieves. I know four people that have had their bikes stolen while locked in their bike rack. they seem to have a little interest in helping to deter bike theft even though there's a camera right there. it's nearly impossible to get them to show you any security footage of the theft. So bring your bike inside while you shop. You have been warned :-)
One by one people were finishing their purchases at the self checkout kiosks, but mo one had come by to wipe them down. Instead the guy went to each one and collected the baskets. I asked another employee as he started to walk by me if they wiped things down (Target @ 4th & Mission does after EVERY customer)...his response was "about every half hour or so". Don't think i'll b going back there again anytime soo.
I could barely see the chicken in my sandwich, staff on the sandwich has the worst attitude ever, they forget we are the customers. There was one tike they did not change their gloves or wash their hands before making the sandwich after I saw them taking out the trash in the bag. Disgusting! That should have been my sign to stop buying food here. Hope the city sanitation comes and shuts down this safeway
I’ve been here multiple times with my emotional support animal and have never had anything happen. Employees have even approached me to say hello to her. But today I got kicked out and yelled at by security while waiting in line for 20 minutes because the cashiers are horrendous. This store has rampant theft and they do nothing but a chihuahua crosses the line. Ridiculous
Managers office girl was nice, and easy to communicate with. But there was some aingst going on between two African-Americans. The bossiest one not bothering to tell deli customers they needed to go wait in the line. That infuriated one customer who walked off. The line-up position is not marked so every new person to the Deli area has to be told where to go and wait.
Drive Up & Go Pick Up signs are missing, Safeway in process of getting new ones again. I parked in rooftop parking lot and waited 10 minutes for my grocery order to be loaded into the trunk of my car. Excellent customer service from the Safeway employee for my pick up order. Tip: Call the store number if you're waiting longer than 5-10 minutes for pick up order.
This is one of the 3 Safeways we go to. This one is within walking distance and sometimes has great deals hidden in the aisles. Last time i was there I got crab and corn soups that were originally $4.49 for $1.00 each. And no, expiration was not 2 weeks from now but October of 2020. Grabbed 6 of those. Produce is always fresh and they have everything we need.
Parking on top is nice. The building exterior is disgusting as far as cleanliness. Everything looks sticky and not cleaned on a daily basis, especially the stairs and by trash bins. But, the absolute worst thing about this Safeway is the snooty customers. But, the whole neighborhood is the opposite of inclusive, so I guess that's not Safeway's fault.
People who work in Deli department are extremely rude and not hygienic. I saw the man moping and then trying to use same gloves to slice meats♀️and when asked nicely to change them he was cursing in his language.. I am a permanent client and people who work for deli have been rude for years. Unfortunately, nothing has changed. …
Safeway is definitely my favorite grocery store in California due to their low prices and frequent sales of my usual products and brands. Their own brand makes good quality, low priced products as well. They also have a 24 hour location on Market & Church St. which is extremely convenient for me considering my odd grocery shopping hours.
Roof parking! Which seems helpful since there's minimal parking around here. However it didn't feel very safe up there. They didn't have anything beyond food here, we were looking for roasting sticks for a bon fire. No luck. **If you liked this review or thought it was helpful, give it a thumbs up. thanks!
Super glad to have found this place during my mini vacay in SF's Sunset District. This place is smaller than your typical grocery store, but has everything I've needed. There is a Starbucks inside. Very friendly and helpful staff. Limited parking. The prices were very good, especially for San Francisco!
One of the Top 3 Safeways in the city. Lots of variety and great produce section. Deli counter is great but understaffed so be kind and patient if you need them to make your food for you! Lines are quick and cashiers are Allstars!! Love this Safeway so much I drive past one on my way. Thank you guys!!!
This is a smaller Safeway, but they have a decent selection of produce and other items. Parking isn't usually an issue here, so it's great if you just need to pick something up fast. They do have a self checkout option though, so that's a perk. Other than that, it's pretty much your average Safeway.
Standard Safeway. Parking is almost always full out front but the rooftop parking hasn't failed me yet. There is a Starbucks inside in case you need a little pep in your step. The fish department is surprisingly small for the size of the Safeway but everything else is about as to be expected.
Really nice, large Safeway with an in-store Prepared Foods, Bakery, Deli, and Floral sections, and a Starbucks. The prepared foods section has everything from made-to-order breakfast sandwiches to sushi. Also there’s rooftop parking, with an elevator and stairs down to the store level.
Their staff is working at their own leisure. I had to wait 7 minutes for the deli employee to meticulously craft himself a sandwich. He saw me he didn’t say a word. Then he finished his sandwich and said ohh you know what i have to clock out now. Can’t help you. That should sum it up.
This is not the best Safeway with ok customerservice, but it has EV charging close by that I use more often. The worst thing about the area is the people who park their cars on no parking fire alarm zone. They block other drivers from passing and the pedestrians who walk to the store.
Safeways are expensive but have very good selections! This particular one is smaller and older on a busy Noriega street. Thus, the selection is less and the wine selection is particularly week but there may be some cultural influence here! Good parking on roof is a real plus!
Safeway is great I love it I am a valued customer and most of the time I get stuff on the house I spend so much money with Safeway they know me I've been shopping there since 1972 and I am a very ready to? And I get a lot of stuff in my house …
This is an okay Safeway. The interior looks outdated. I shop here since it’s the only Safeway I know in this neighborhood. They have plenty of parking spaces outside the store front and on the roof. To access parking on the roof, you can go up the ramp on 30th Ave.
Love this Safeway. Good customer service. Usually good parking. Some of the seasoned cashiers are a little intimidating with scowls & grim expressions, but none are overtly rude. No Safeway is perfect, though, & this one could use a better whisky selection.
Safeway on Noriega has lost some great team members and has a tendency to close early. It's always clean and as well stocked as possible though, so I keep going back. If you have last minute items get there AT LEAST 30min before they close though!
Horrendously slow customer service at the deli counter. One lady before us waited for half an hour to get cold cuts. One service rep was handling both deli and hot food counters while a 5-people queue was forming. The ticket dispenser was
I regularly visit the Ocean Beach Safeway in my neighborhood, which serves my needs and has wonderful customer service. But I shopped at this Noriega St. location as I had errands to run in that neighborhood, and was pleasantly surprised
Purchased a container of ice cream and opened the sealed container to find half the contents missing. The ice cream looks like it was melted then frozen again possibly from a refrigerator/power failure. The store accepted the return, but
Prices are decent - the food is not all that healthy unless you are in the produce section. Fine for bulk kids snacks and the frozen baby shrimp is well priced. The meat seems to often be on the verge of expiring. Organic Milk is cheaper
Open sort of late, but it's out in the deep neighborhood, so you can't fault them for that. The one time there was an issue was when Safeway was running their "3's a crowd" campaign where if there's more than 3 people waiting in line to
Poorly stock of most weekly sales items. Dislike the deli. Communication is very problematic. Repeat yourself constantly. Extremely slow service, that is, if they even acknowledge you. I will only go there if I desperate for something.
It's a huge Safeway store. The annoying part is they have shampoo, wash soap, deodorant, toothbrush, and other personal items locked up. You have to wait for a clerk to unlock cabinets and then they take it to the cashier for you.
Okay....no one mentions the elevator that is again for the 3 rd time or 4th broken down especially for those that have many groceries and though security or staff say they will watch your cart not there when I drive my car down
This is a decent neighborhood Safeway. It's a little cozy, not cavernous, but they have pretty much everything you need. The staff at the bakery is friendly and helpful and the lines are NOT crazy long at checkout.
I am not sure if I can fairly rate this place. They had a system crash and it took almost an hour to check out. It is a smaller Safeway so choices are limited but they have the important groceries and produce.
If you're Latino and come in at night expect to be followed. The cashier at the self check out was rude enough to go behind me to make sure I scanned every item in. Racial profiling is still illegal.
They need to upgrade the restroom..and like 3 weeks ago a guy walk out with a cooked chicken like at 3:00 pm and there was not security guard at that time..and no employee saw him do it only me..
It's small but comprehensive... Produce is always good as are the meats, though they don't have room for a lot of them. There's a Starbucks and a self check out... That's really all I need!
Nice and clean and a safe place to shop. This Safeway has armed security outside, and 3-4 SFPD officers standing inside the entrance and walking through the store. Great job Safeway!!
As always parking is an issue around the business, but you can park on top of the building. Elevator wasn’t working on the day of my visit. Clean and “stoked”. Enjoy.
Working Electrify America chargers in the parking lot!. Get sushi and beer at Safeway while waiting for your EV to charge up. San Francisco is a great place to live.
Don't try to order sandwiches here, the counter have no worker here. I wait for 10 minutes, no worker offer to help even they saw me standing there
A medium sized Safeway with a decent selection. Convenient rooftop parking. Some toiletries behind locks, but most things were accessible.
Pharmacy was quick. Had issue with a BOGO promo, customer service took care of issue. Wish the sign was more clear about no mix & match.
Kind employees but perhaps understaffed. Every time I come in I spend 30+ minutes waiting in line because one checkout lane is open
This safeway is very well stocked. They carry new items in all sorts of different kind of flavors, not like any other safeways
It was busy with kids running around making a lot of noise (after school hours) . Other than that, it's a ok Safeway.
They had stacys jalapeno chips and a nice bathroom. As bad as this text sounds its a nice safeway
Very clean. Very well organized. Good parking. Nice staff. But I did arrive at 7am so....
good food but if you’re a teenager workers automatically assume you’re stealing.
Understaffed and the few people that work there are morons.
