Title: "A Glimpse into History: Exploring the Salar Jung Museum in Hyderabad" **Introduction** Hyderabad, the city of pearls, palaces, and historical wonders, offers a unique cultural experience that beckons travelers from around the world. Amidst the bustling streets and modern skyline, the Salar Jung Museum stands as a testament to a bygone era. This article is your virtual tour guide to one of Hyderabad's most revered cultural treasures and a point of interest that may surprise you – the museum's policy on camera phone usage. **A Journey Through Time** The Salar Jung Museum, situated on the southern bank of the Musi River, is not just another museum. It's a time machine that transports you through centuries of history, art, and culture. The museum is the life's work of Salar Jung III, a nobleman and statesman who dedicated his life to collecting and preserving a rich tapestry of art and artifacts from all corners of the world. His collection, which spans three generations of Salar Jung's family, is displayed in this three-story marvel. **The Museum's Treasures** As you step into the museum, you are welcomed by a staggering array of artifacts. The collection is incredibly diverse, encompassing everything from ancient manuscripts, sculptures, paintings, textiles, weaponry, and decorative art. Highlights include the intricately carved, life-sized wooden statue of Veiled Rebecca, the world-famous "Double-Flute Player" statue, and the mesmerizing "European Clock" collection. **A Special Note: Camera Phone Usage** While you marvel at the museum's splendid exhibits, you might notice a unique feature of the Salar Jung Museum – a camera phone policy that may not be what you expect. The museum charges a nominal fee of INR 50 (approximately $0.70 USD) per camera phone for visitors who wish to use their devices to capture the beauty within. It's a reminder that while photography is encouraged, the preservation of the museum's treasures is of paramount importance. This policy encourages guests to soak in the history, art, and culture with their eyes and not just through the lens of a camera. The fee acts as a gentle nudge to appreciate the museum's offerings with undivided attention, free from the distractions of countless smartphone clicks. **A Journey to Remember** The Salar Jung Museum is a place where history comes to life, and the rich cultural heritage of Hyderabad is celebrated. It's a sanctuary for art lovers, history enthusiasts, and curious travelers alike. The camera phone policy is a unique aspect of the museum, a gentle reminder that some experiences are best savored with our senses, etched into our memories, rather than stored in a digital folder. As you leave the museum, you'll carry with you not only the memories of remarkable artifacts but also the essence of Salar Jung's dedication to preserving history and culture. Your visit will become a cherished chapter in your own personal history, a story told through the lens of your heart and not just your camera phone.

I recently had the pleasure of visiting the Salar Jung Museum, and it was an experience I won't soon forget. This museum is a true gem in the heart of Hyderabad and offers an exceptional glimpse into the world of art, history, and culture. I would highly recommend a visit, but with a few tips in mind to enhance your experience. The Salar Jung Museum houses an impressive collection of art and historical artifacts, ranging from rare manuscripts and sculptures to exquisite jewelry and antique furniture. The diversity of exhibits is truly remarkable, and it's a place where history and art enthusiasts can find something to pique their interest. Now, for the tips: First and foremost, the museum tends to get quite crowded, especially on weekends and during holidays. To make the most of your visit, consider purchasing your tickets in advance through platforms like BookMyShow. This will save you time and ensure you can make the most of your time inside rather than waiting in long lines. Another important point to note is that the museum charges for mobile entry. To avoid this extra fee, you can either leave your phone outside or purchase a pass, which, in my opinion, is worth it if you plan to take photos or use your phone during the visit. The museum's architecture is a work of art in itself, and the well-organized exhibits make it easy to explore at your own pace. Be sure to pick up an audio guide if you want a more immersive experience, as it provides insightful information about the various artifacts on display. The staff at the Salar Jung Museum is friendly and knowledgeable, always ready to assist with any questions or concerns. If you're interested in delving deeper into the history and significance of the items on display, don't hesitate to strike up a conversation with one of the knowledgeable guides. In conclusion, the Salar Jung Museum is a cultural treasure that offers a remarkable journey through time. While it can get crowded, with a bit of planning, you can have an unforgettable experience. So, make your reservations in advance, decide on your mobile entry preference, and prepare to be amazed by the incredible collection this museum has to offer. Whether you're a history buff, art lover, or just curious about the world, this museum is a must-visit in Hyderabad.

I recently visited the Salar Jung Museum, and I must say, the experience was nothing short of captivating. The artifacts and collections on display are not just vast but also presented in a fast and vivid manner, allowing visitors to absorb the rich history seamlessly. One notable highlight is the 200-year-old clock, a masterpiece that not only tells time but also enchants with its unique feature of ringing based on the number of hours. The Salar Jung III swords and articles, along with fascinating facts about the Nizams of Hyderabad, add depth to the historical journey. A true marvel is the double statue crafted in wood, appearing as a man from the front and transforming into a woman when reflected in the mirror – a brilliant display of artistic ingenuity. The European Armour plate showcased here offers a glimpse into the war history, highlighting the measures taken for self-protection. The museum doesn't just excel in exhibits but also in accessibility. Ample parking space and wheelchair accessibility ensure a hassle-free visit. Inside, there are two restaurants catering to diverse preferences. The pure 100% veg restaurant is a delight, and the other serves the famous Hyderabadi Irani chai, complemented by a tasty assortment of samosas, wafers, chips, and more. Overall, the Salar Jung Museum is a treasure trove of history and art, offering an enriching experience for visitors of all interests. The Muesuem closes at 5:00 PM. Indian citizen charges are around Rs. 50 per head and Mobile phones / Cameras require an additional ticket to be purchased of Rs. 50. A cloak room is also present where you can keep your belongings.

We visited the museum on the 25th of Dec, 2023. It was definitely not a good experience. It was I think largely because of the year end rush. It was like a crowd you would see on the opening day of a blockbuster movie. There was a huge queue for the ticket which took me 10-15 min. I wish there was an online ticket booking facility. Another 15-20 min took to enter the museum. Then we were pushed into one of the rooms with paintings by the huge crowd, an experience that I had long back while boarding the mumbai local train. Look at one of the photos that I have uploaded. It was the crowd that gathered to watch the quite small musical clock. I mean people in the front row couldn't have seen the clock properly, but you could see people standing far away and hoping to see something. Maybe it was just another tick mark in their itinerary. Anyways leaving crowd issue aside, there were many sections in the museum that one can visit to see the art workwork/galleries from the various part of the world like French, Japanese, Chinese etc. The time to visit to the museum can take easily from a couple hours to a couple of days, depending on the interest one has in the art work. My recommendation would be to visit the museum in non peak season (unless you want to tick mark one of the tourist places). It is worth a visit if you admire art. Lastly avoid the food facility inside the museum. It is pathetic and definitely not worth the money they charge. Better carry food along with you.

Entry fees 50 & 50 /- per phone. The Salar Jung Museum is an art museum located at Dar-ul-Shifa, on the southern bank of the Musi River in the cit of Hyderabad, Telangana, India. It is one of the notable National Museums of India. Originally a private art collection of the Salar Jung family, it was endowed to the nation after the death of Salar Jung III. A Timeless Journey through Art and History at Salar Jung Museum My visit to the Salar Jung Museum in April 2017 was a captivating voyage through the annals of art and history. The museum's collection, adorned with a plethora of beautiful artifacts, showcased an exquisite array of swords, weapons, and ancient idols of gods, providing a rich tapestry of cultural and historical significance. Among the standout exhibits were the intricately carved swords and weapons used in battles, offering a glimpse into the martial history of the region. The presence of ancient idols added a spiritual dimension to the museum, connecting visitors with the artistic and religious heritage embedded in each piece. The true marvel of the museum lies in the breathtaking carvings in hastidant (elephant teeth). These intricate creations elevate the exhibits, revealing the incredible craftsmanship of bygone eras. Visiting the Salar Jung Museum is a journey back in time, a chance to witness the beauty and complexity of human creativity and history. For art enthusiasts, history buffs, and those simply seeking a cultural immersion, this museum stands as a treasure trove of wonders. It is undeniably a worth-visiting place that leaves an indelible mark on those fortunate enough to explore its remarkable collections.

What I couldn't accomplish 12 years ago, did it this time!! 12 years ago, I went to South India tour with family, and didn't know I'll be getting only 2 hours to tour this museum. 1 hour for each floor, was what I estimated would take for an interested person like me to tour the museum. So this time, I planned well and toured the museum for 5 hours straight. ⚡ Feeling very satisfied now. Except the food court, everything was super awesome!! The authorities have very cleverly created the system such that you will have to go but the super expensive food from the food court inside. They don't allow you to take your food inside. And there's no place to sit or relax briefly. So ultimately you feel tired and hungry and have to buy from the food court. I had to take the cheapest one - 1 samosa - 75 rupees. Food court Not appropriate for vegans.

One among the three national museum in the country. A Museum built extraordinary. Different galleries are placed in two floors. Which bears native as well as foreign collections. The foremost thing you should keep in mind is that , make sure you have at least 2-3 hours minimum to spend here. That much is the extent of this museum. We have to take additional tickets for mobile phones or camera inorder to take photo from inside the museum. Marble statue named veiling Rebecca built by an Italian is one of the main attraction. musical clocks are also one of the attraction. Drinking water, neat and hygienic toilet and wash rooms are maintained which is to be appreciated. Also a food court is there inside the museum. Which will help you to refresh during a 3-4 hours expedition inside the museum. Museum is differently able friendly too.

If you get excited about antiques and history this is the best place for you. It's really a very big museum with lots of artifacts. You need atleast 3 hrs to roam around and even more time if you want to know about each artifact. The English Bracket Clock and Veiled Rebecca statue are the key highlights of the museum. Paintings, coins, ivory, carpets, furniture, clocks, weapons from different parts of the world and from different timelines you get to see all here. All artifacts are well preserved. A must visit in Hyderabad, but take some quality time out to experience it. Also read a little bit about the artifacts before you visit the place. Camera/Mobile is chargeable. You can also download the app where you get guided tour and information about each artifact.

Providing a captivating journey through the dynastic past. The museum offers a rich tapestry of artifacts, each telling a unique story of the eras. Exploring its exhibits becomes a fascinating exploration of the history of Hyderabad and its rulers. The meticulously curated collection allows visitors to connect with the cultural legacy, unraveling the nuances of the city's history. It's not just a museum; it's an immersive experience that becomes even more enriching when shared with children. Spending time here with kids offers a valuable opportunity to impart a tangible understanding of Hyderabad's history, creating lasting memories and fostering a sense of appreciation for the cultural heritage. Only drawback, needed more maintenance else everything is good here.

The place is great for history and art enthusiasts. It was full packed down on Saturday when I visited. People come with full families. There are so many attractions in the museum. We waited for the musical clock but it was not that worth it. But, the elephant tusk section is really good, though. Metal section is also really good. It's way way better than the museum at Chowmahalla Palace. The cafeteria is okay, you will get everything but would have to pay good money. Not enough space, it was total chaos at the cafeteria. Although, there is a restaurant, it was outside the main museum building. Visit on a weekday if you want to explore peacefully but I have heard, its mostly crowded everyday.

Amazing place !! Huge collection of artifacts from all over India and abroad ... They even had a collection of Christian Goan ivory statues dating from the Portuguese era I guess , but all in all a must visit place for those who love art and history. Now the cons It was an absolute mela !! Very badly managed queues and Indians do not know how to stand in a queue ‍♂️‍♂️they need one CISF with a lathi then only they understand. It's so noisy and crowded you cannot appreciate the collection in peace. Suggestion : Pls go have a look from the outside first , if you can't stand crowds go at a time when the crowd is less , ask a few taxi drivers / locals for the best time to visit

One of the finest museums with humongous collections in Hyderabad. The best part of this museum is it contains European, east Asian and many Indian sculptures, armory, porcelins and so on. Practically the collections are unimaginable and amazing. You can buy your tickets online by Book my show. Sunday's and holiday's can be heavy in ticket counters. The average visit time is around 90-120 minutes. But obviously you can spend upto 3-4 hours depending upon your interest in museology. Clicking pictures inside the museum is allowed and tickets need to be purchased separately for this. A must visit place in Hyderabad.

This museum is one of the main attractions of Hyderabad. The museum is filled with art ! There are beautiful paintings, sculptures and figures. It really talks about our history as well as the history of places from all around the world. This is also the place where the original sculpture of the Veiled Rebecca lies. The galleries present depict various times of history from various countries other than India. This museum is underrated for what it offers. There is parking available on site. There is also a canteen in the museum. Be prepared to walk in the museum.

My visit to the Salar Jung Museum was quite enjoyable. The museum boasts an extensive collection of art and historical artifacts, which is impressive. However, I found that some areas could benefit from more detailed descriptions or interactive elements to enhance the visitor experience. The museum staff were friendly and willing to answer questions, which was appreciated. Overall, it's a worthwhile visit for history and art enthusiasts, but a bit more engagement could make it even better.

One can spend a full day here. Nicely maintained museum. It has all kinds of artefacts like crockery, weapons, furniture from different eras and different places of the world. Also popular for its soldier clock. If one likes to see it ring more times then they should visit around 12 o'clock. Also must see a double wood statue and veiled Rebecca. If one is planning to spend a long time and really interested then they should buy an audio guide ( there is an app on the phone, carry your headphones).

Amazed to see the collections of just one man that spread across 2 floors. Well maintained alleys rooms and lights add to the ambiance. For more details, the authority offers an app for an audio enabled guided tour. I haven't tried the same, but someone availed that the facility can comment on how helpful it is. Do not forget to sit on the chairs in front of the famous manual musical clock to capture the hourly chimes. Ivory room, clock room, and the double faced sculpture Mephistopheles & Margaretta are must watch.

Ive been visiting this place on and off since I was a kid. Always mesmerized by the collection held here. Although, this particular time it was a bit disappointing to see the state of the building. Perhaps some care can be shown to modernize the display cases specially on the ground floor to really show how impressive this collection is. The pieces are beyond impressive but presentation let's them down a little bit.

One of the big museums in India. Variety of collections of old-age India kept here. You need to buy tickets before entering. One of the best things is that Soldier Clock at the time of 12 o'clock. Western block & Eastern Block, two parts are there. It needs 3-4 hours to visit the whole museum.

Tickets are available at the counter, but easier online. To take photos, another tkt is needed, no one checked it though. It is a good museum with some specific items of daily and general use from few centuries ago and some paintings and sculpture. Some utensils and china ware was interesting. I like to return again and again. It was very crowded though.

Great place to visit for arts and culture enthusiasts. The cafeteria located on the ground floor only accepts cash and cards. UPI facility is not available. Also there is limited seating space and it tends to get crowded around the afternoon.

Great museum with such a wide collection of exhibits and paintings. Even the architecture is beautiful and the entry fee is also very affordable with it being 50rs. The one drawback is for each phone or camera you have to pay extra to take inside. The canteen is good too. Overall a good space with such a unique collection and well maintained

It is amazing the size and the amount of artifacts on display. Unfortunately I didn't allow enough time before closing time so I couldn't visit everything. Please allow several hours to immerse yourself into all the museum has to offer
