I was having my friends cousin do my hair because it was extremely cheap. (2 full head highlights, all-over toner, cut and style for $85 including tip) BUT 3 days before I was starting my new job he royally screwed up my hair. I mean it was awful! Not only were my highlights tinted blue and my base tinted orange but the cut was awful!! I was mortified!! I tried to have him correct it but he gave me attitude and said "this is what you asked for....". never went back again..... ** by the way, I have extremely long hair and I like to keep it natural. I wanted a light brown/ dirty blonde look for the summer** First day at my new job I wore my hair up to try to cover it and asked my co workers where they went to get their hair done since it looked great! They said Salon V and that they go to any stylist since they are all great. I immediately called and made an appointment. When I got there I was offered a drink and finally got to relax. My stylist (Melissa) was amazing! She sat me down and I showed her the picture of what my hair was supposed to look like and told her the whole story. She listened and combed through my hair as I talked. She made me feel SO much better. she kept saying things like "I just don't understand why he would do it that way?! (talking about the processes he used)" or " What was he thinking?! (referring to the ridiculousness of my hair and how he wouldn't redo it)" or my personal favorite "What is going on here?.... What is this?... can I just fix you?!" I can't even tell you how relieved I was. She then not only walked me through what she was going to do and the price of everything. (she's very cost savvy BTW which makes me like her even more!) But brainstormed with a fellow stylist on all of the options of fixing my hair. All the different prices, highlight, toner, dye combos they could do to bring me closer to what I wanted. She recommended for me to do a pretty big overhaul right now (all-over color, half head highlight and a toner to fix it and get it close to where I wanted it) but to then come back in a few weeks for just a few more highlights/toner to bring it to where I wanted to be. She also cut and blow dried my hair. I think the total cost with tip was $120-130. Which is typical but for an Aveda salon its amazing! Highly, Highly, Highly recommend! I haven't gone anywhere else since! Did I mention it's a BYOB salon as well?! AND they send you random coupons?! AND you can make an appointment online?! In all seriousness.... it's worth every penny.

What’s the purpose of having a salon if your goal isn’t to make your customers feel even decent? I haven’t been here in 2 years but I’m just now writing the review as it’s taken me this long to refine my frustration enough to not write a list of explicatives. The first cut I got from kelly was fantastic and I was super excited (we took off about 5 inches). My second haircut was about 4 months later and I asked her to take it to the exact same length as last time (about 1/4 an inch). Instead, she took off about 3 inches off and gave me a true bob. Aside from the length, she did a horrible job from a stylistic perspective and I was heartbroken. I called the salon and they had me come back in to meet with Kelly and their “creative director”. Long story short, Kelly somewhat fixed the train wreck that was my insanely short hair cut but there’s no fixing length. The creative director walked around like she was her busiest hottest thing to ever grace us with her presence and spent about 30 sends with me being incredibly condescending, uninterested and didn’t let me have a voice or opinion. Instead she made me feel like a speechless little girl. So while the haircut was awful, my message really is to your creative director. Please consider your purpose and if you’re in this position to make clients happy, or to flatter your hot spunky little self?

Bleached my hair to death. Went in to refresh my balayage, the first time all the hair dresser did was tone the already bleached hair leaving the 5 new grown inches of hair on top on touched and charged me way too much. So I went in again and they kindly said they would fix it, as they were "finishing" they saw a big section of my hair that didnt take the color, so they had to go in AGAIN with the help of the manager this time. They said the it had to do with there previous color I had underneath but It was also an aveda salon that did my first balayage, the only difference is I did it in Iowa. I did this back in december and thought my hair would recover by now, but it hasnt. I had to cut off several inches, it was down to the top of my butt and now its to my shoulders. never going here again.

Love, love, love Meredith at Salon V! Thankfully she does color & cut (a hard thing to find in Chicago) and works well with curly hair. She was super welcoming and made me feel comfortable right away. Salon V is a very unpretentious salon with fairly reasonable prices. Nestled in the middle of Lincoln Park on Webster, this quietly awesome salon is now my salon (after living here for 8 years, I finally found the one). Tip: Street parking is easy to find right on Webster or take the Brown Line to Armitage & walk a few blocks up Sheffield.

Sad to write this because I really liked the haircuts, but the business management is horrendous. An appointment of mine was moved a day earlier unbeknownst to me, so that when I tried to cancel it what I thought was 2 days before got me charged $35 dollars for a late cancellation fee. I went in where the manager found that my appt was moved by mistake, but had nothing to offer me other than a very long refund process and “sorry”. So I have to be out 35 dollars and waste 20 min of my time to fix their mistake? Will not be back.

I know everyone has their favorites, but if you are first-timer to Salon V definitely ask for Jessica! You can tell she is so passionate about hair, and challenges you to think differently about it. She has a great sense of what looks good for your face shape but she's also emotionally intelligent enough to listen to what you want. She's fantastic at coloring - I don't often take the time to get my hair highlighted, so she problem solved with a balayage that still looks good, and it's been 3 months! Highly recommend Salon V!

Literally my favorite salon! I have been getting my hair cut and colored here for a few years now and absolutely love Salon V! Everyone here is so nice and take such good care of me. I’ve gotten my hair treated by almost everyone (David, Jessica, Michelle) and they have all done a fabulous job. Fabian is also such a sweetheart and makes the booking/checkin/checkout process smooth and easy. I highly recommend this salon. I get so many compliments on my hair due to the services done here.

I was recommended to salon V from a long time client and friend. She recommended Ada, as we both have curly hair. I made an appointment and was seen that week. Ada spent time explaining, suggesting and did a wonderful job adding volume and shape to my fine, thin hair that I have struggled with for years! She addressed my concerns and appreciated the time she took with me, definitely making me feel comfortable with a new stylist. Thank you Ada! Curly hair girls, I totally recommended!!!

I have been going to Salon V, where David magically turn my white hair blue and purple! For the last year I have been looking for someone to do brow microblading in the city. I found her and she is right there at Salon V. Her name is Vivi and she is wonderful. She trained with a woman who is respected as one of the best of the business. Vivi explained all the steps, very professional. And, she has a great personality. A perfectionist. I am thrilled with my new brows.

I’ve been going to this salon for over five years. The entire staff is AMAZING! Ada cuts my hair and she is the only person I trust to do it. She always listens to my wants and needs and always does a great job. Melissa does my coloring and is a coloring GENIUS. I’ve gone from brown ombré to ginger red, to platinum and she always keeps my hair gorgeous and fresh. Taylor does my eyebrow tint and waxing and always does a fantastic job. Love this place!!

I was in desperate need of a cut, the reviews were good, and the prices were reasonable. They did not disappoint! I was warmly welcomed even though I didn't have an appointment and offered water or tea. Vivi was absolutely fantastic! She listened to my wants and needs, was very professional, worked her magic, and was finished much faster than I expected. The teamwork there was noticeable, and the atmosphere was great. I'll definitely be going back!

I've been going to Laura since sometime last year and I absolutely LOVE it. I was worried that it would be difficult for me to find a good salon with fair reasonable prices in my neighborhood that cut my hair how I wanted it after I moved from the suburbs. I was completely wrong! Salon V is an awesome salon with great pricing and amenities. I leave the salon feeling refreshed, excited and happy-- whats not to love?!

Laura is so great!! I normally hate going to see a hairstylist; I hate sitting in front of a giant mirror and I hate figuring out what small talk to make. But Laura always makes me feel welcome and comfortable and treats me like a friend. And she does a tremendous job on my hair. I have fine, limp, short hair and she cuts and styles it in a way that makes it look awesome.

I really like this Aveda salon in Lincoln Park. I called spontaneously for a shampoo/style and I was fortunate to have Kelly as my stylist. She listened to what I wanted and knew exactly what to do. I have thick/wavy hair and she was able to provide a natural style that brought out my wave. Excellent experience. I’d recommend checking out this tried and true salon.

I love this place! I have had cuts and styles from several different people there, but Rinia is my favorite. She takes great care to get to know my hair and me. The de-stressing scalp massage with essential oils they do at the beginning is one of the best things ever!! They will also touch up your makeup for you before you leave anytime.

Kaylee is excellent at transforming me from a derelict caveman into a fancy about-town gentlemen who is worthy of being in the company of those who hold personal hygiene in high regard. She is also hilarious, and gives excellent face massages. Everyone at Salon V is cool, I highly recommend this spot.

I just came here for the first time last week for cut and color with Ada. She is AMAZING! The process of understanding what I want as a client and what my hair goals are as well as her explanation of everything that she's doing. She also recommended products that were specific to my hair goals.

My teenage son gets his haircuts at Salon V. They give everyone who walks in a warm welcome. They also work fast, several customers came and went during my son's session. They sell an amazing selection of Aveda products too. Tip: my son is able to come back within two weeks for a free touchup.

The only salon I will go to in Chicago! Jessica does an amazing job for a cut/style and Taylor works wonders on brows! Highly recommend Salon V. Everyone in the salon is very welcoming and it's always a fun atmosphere

David Mounce has been cutting my hair for 7 years and he is the best! My haircuts look even better as they grow out than the day I left the salon. He is a master at his craft and I look forward to every cut and style.

Rinia is hands down amazing! She has done the best cut and color that I have ever had. My hair is extremely long and thick and she approached the job with enthusiasm and excitement. I am absolutely thrilled!
