For the most part, this school is a nice place. However, it has a few glaring problems. Most notably, perhaps, are the ipads that are issued to every student on campus. These things were hailed by the district to be the next big leap in education, but what we got were mediocre, under-powered toys that only took us several steps back. The ipads have become a major bottleneck that hinders productivity in the classroom. Between their piss-poor performance and them being a massive incentive for procrastination, it takes forever to get work done in the class with these damn things. To be perfectly honest, I would celebrate like mad if these things were taken out of service and thrown in the trash. It's a much more fitting home for these abominable things than in the classroom. Another problem is the way the school is run. The math department is a complete joke, with teachers constantly quitting and being replaced by inexperienced new-hires who are barely capable of controlling their class, let alone teaching effectively. This brings me to my third point: discipline. many of the teachers here do nothing to keep their classes under control. many classrooms become complete madhouses the second students are left to their own devices, And that's when the teacher is IN the room. If the teacher leaves the room for whatever reason, then you'd better plug your ears, because the defecation is about to hit the oscillation. My final point is in regards to the communication between staff and students, or the lack thereof. Want to get into contact with the math department? good luck. Need to send an email to a teacher? many don't even pay attention. Overall, this place isn't that bad, at least compared to some other schools in the valley. However, the school still has some glaring issues that need to be resolved, and any parent who sends their child here should be mindful of these issues and prepare accordingly. Thank you for your time.
It's very sad how terrible this school is because we already have some of the worst public schools in all of the US. We have no one holding these schools accountable for things they do and don't do. The counseling office complained to the school district that they were stressed and needed 60 more days to enter GPAs during college enrollment. They also were given permission to refuse students and parents questions due to being over worked. The 4 princibles do whatever they can to avoid students and parents. When you try to schedule time to see them parents are referred to their secretarie who inform you that the principles schedules are booked. The office staff speak terrible to students and parents. The cafeteria staff are pushing students and grabbing them by their arms. We did notify the school district about this. I have 2 daughters who attend here and when I speak with other parents they have similar issues with this school as well. I'm sad that there is no where for my family to turn because it's a public school.
Started attending SDOHS back in 2007, I was a Sophmore at the time switching from Deer Valley HS. The Three years I attended there was actually not all that bad, coming from a person that always dislikes studying and homework. But it wasn't really about that. It was more of the experience and the people and firends you make while you're there. I'd have to say I really missed my Senior Year Class of 2010!!!!! best moments of my high school life.
